Why is firefox running so slow

why is firefox running so slowly?

Can be Add-ons. Start up Fx in Safe Mode to test by holding down the Option key. This will run without any Add-ons. If it's OK like that, disable them all and then add them back one at a time to see which one is responsible.

  • Why is Firefox running super slow and IE runs great? New details 03/29

Fire Fox was running great, and then for some reason, it starting runnning extremely slow. When I type it is slow to appear on the screen, ads from websites are jerky, and even the circle spins slowly for every web load/refresh. I went as far as uninstalling Fire Fox to include favorites and associated data, re-downloading and installing. This did not help either. I had to use IE to even ask for help, its that bad. AVG Virus scan and AVG PC tune up fixed problems and several reboots did not help. Did not crash. Please help, I dont like IE.

I had same problem. At least in my case it's due to Nvidia Graphics Card using 3D rendering feature.
When I played videos on YouTube Firefox was loading these DLL:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\Nv3DVStreaming.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\nvSCPAPI.dll
    C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\3D Vision\nvStereoApiI.dll
Disabling Nvidia 3D crap fixes the problem for me!!

  • Why does firefox run so slow?

it takes so long to load pages and sometimes it just freezes

I have been experiencing long "connecting" times recently with FF4 and Win7. This morning was really bad. I tried resetting my router and modem.... much better. I don't think I have a hardware problem, but this seemed to help immensely.

  • Why is Safari running so slow under Mountain Lion?

Why is Safari running so slow under Mountain Lion?

I have other mac's on my home network that are still running Snow Leopard and the are performing well. I wanted to use the iCloud so I upgraded and instantly started experiencing the slow down, to the point of ridiculousness. Other function are mixed some normal speed, others a day on the beach with the spinning ball. Firefox is at full speed, good thought, haven't checked Chrome yet.
Last night and hooked into a projection unit that adjusted my screen resolution for a presentation and after the event my Mac reset back to the normal settings and Safari launched and is running normal speeds so far. In the past there have been issues with performance speeds and certain resolutions, has anyone had similar luck or is this a fluke?

  • Since downloading Mountain Lion, why is Safari running very slow? I've check the internet and it's fine.

Since downloading Mountain Lion, why is Safari running very slow?

You're going to have to be more specific and include some details.

  • Why is Muse running impossibly slow?

Muse is running impossibly slow...I am working on a very simple website...the file is only 9.3MB. Any ideas why it is running so slow? I am using a trial version of Muse because I want to see how it performs and if it would be a good purchase for me but if it runs this slow I don't know if I want to buy it...
    Computer specs:
    16GB of ram
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Processor (3.20 GHz)
    Windows 7 Ultimate

Your system is simlar to mine.  Are you a gamer by chance?  What do you have running concurrently or in the background with Muse?
The obvious first issue is Malware.  If you have a great product to detect that the:
The next step that I take when my machine seems to be slowing down, particularly if it's sudden and unexpected, is to fire up Process Explorer. Very often, one source of a system slowdown can be attributed to a single program running on your machine that is attempting to use all available processing resources. When that happens, other programs (often including Windows itself) aren't able to respond to your actions as quickly as other One.
Let me know if this still doesnt help I have a few other ideas as well.

  • Firefox runs extremely slow on 64 bit PC it takes forever to open bookmarks are we going to get a 64 bit firefox

Firefox runs extremely slow on 64 bit PC it takes forever to open bookmarks and also hangs when I try to open anything within firefox I have used firefox since it started on 32 bit systems until I installed it on my 64 bit a week ago and have had this problem and others since, are we going to get a 64 bit firefox

Thanks for getting back to me Dave!
The file is about 91 MB in size, with just under 400 scanned pages.
I’ve also encountered the problem when I’ve tried to OCR one of these old books.  I’ve had to do it 50-100 pages at a time, closing and re-opening the file each time.
Based on my online search for a solution, I had concluded that the 2 GB limit for 32-bit programs was the most likely source of the problem.  But I’m wondering now if Acrobat could use 2 GB  in processing a 91 MB file.

  • FireFox runs very slow on Ultra 10

I have the newest version of Firefox ("Minefield") which runs extemely slow on Sun Ultra 10 with Solaris 10 on it with 512MB of RAM.
Any idea why that is? Should I patch it? Or install another browser?
Is it a hardware or software issue?

We still don't know how fast your U-10's cpu might be.
    It's fastest processor was a 440MHz single-core SPARC-II module.
    The SLOWEST Ultra-20 m2 system is a 1.8GHz dual-core x86 platform module.
... at least 4+ times faster on single threaded processes and about 9 times faster on multi-core-aware processes.
In a past incarnation, when I was a TSE for Sun, I had a 360MHz Ultra-5 on my desk, then the company upgraded us in the Support Center to 500MHz Sunblade 100 systems.
    I used Solaris 7 and 8 on the Ultra-5 and I used Solaris 8 and 9 on the SB100.
Every newer OS environment placed a bigger and bigger graphics burden on those systems. It was a noticeable "downgrade". (The other aspects of those OS's were great, however.) I pointedly only ran CDE on my system.
A web browser application is imminently graphics intensive as it draws every page. I have a fond memory of the U-5, U-10, and SB100. They were great for their time but I wouldn't expect them to be productive to the same level on today's newer applications. Their respective system busses were conventional 33MHz PCI. They used slower disk drives on ATA-33 controllers. They all used onboard ATI Rage graphics chipsets and additional framebuffers were 2D cards, not good 3D cards.
Perhaps this is a comparison of "apples and oranges"?

  • I have IE & Firefox on both my laptop and desktop. Why is Firefox so much slower than IE7? Firefox seems to take forever to load pages!

I have a HP laptop & Dell desktop with IE7 and Firefox. I use Firefox more as I like it better than IE, yet the pages in Firefox load so slow. I thought the new version of Firefox was so much faster, but it seems to drag along and take forever to load pages. Why is this??

  • Mozilla Firefox run very slow on a Apple Mac OS X

Someone feedback to me that running Mozilla Firefox on a Apple Mac OS X runs very slow.
I suggesting Mozilla to fix this issues.

Hey, am using firefox on my mac air 13.3 (yosemite), and i must say that there is no problem so far. tell that "someone" to clean cache and cookies, or may be a reinstall could fix it.

  • Why is Firefox 4 sooooooo slow?

Just updated to Firefox 4 and it's now running so slow. I don't like the look of it, I've lost half of the add-ons - it's awful. I'll endeavour to try and get back to the old version. Failing that then it's IE I'm afraid.

I agree, FF4 is truly dreadful. Quite clearly this is backwards progress - shameful!

  • Why is Firefox running in Safe Mode in Windows Start, ever since updating to 6.0.2.4?

just answer the question please...... and tell me why since upgrade approximately 2 weeks ago to 6.0.2.4, is Firefox running in Safe Mode and why? Also, my menu bar completely changed and all my menu preferences disappeared... WHY? The menu bar went to a weak Yahoo format, and basically ousted my Google home page. Why?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
    * Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Menu+bar+is+missing
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
Do you get a Safe mode start window or is it only that the Firefox window looks different?
