Why is Firefox suddenly sorting windows Files by Date?

I may have changed a setting without knowing with some keystroke command, but suddenly yesterday Firefox started sorting my files in Windows (when I go to upload a file) by date modified. I tell it to sort by name but each time I go back it has defaulted to sorting by date again. This is really annoying.

• Why does firefox (updated) on windows 7 NOT send a hotllink (must copy/paste),when using the 'send link' feature, whereas firefox on XP always sends a hotlink?

Question
why does firefox (updated) on windows 7 NOT send a hotllink (must copy/paste),when using the 'send link' feature, whereas firefox on XP always sends a hotlink? This feature has always worked perfectly on all my windows XP computers, but not at all on any of my versions of firefox on windows 7.How can i fix this? Why does it not work?

• Is Bridge supposed to sort raw files by date modified?  Not on my systems.

I have just installed photoshop/bridge cs5 on two windows 7 systems, home premium 64 bit, one an i3 chip and the other an i7 chip.  I was formerly using cs3.
I see that Bridge is not sorting my raw files by date modified like it did before.  It sorts jpg files okay.  I noticed that the xmp files associated with the raw files, when I hover over them in Windows Explorer show the correct modified date but the thumbnail icon shows only creation date, which I assume is as it shou ld be.  Why doesn't Bridge CS5 sort raw files by date modified as it did in CS3?  CS3 must have referred to the xmp file modified date to use for sorting, I would think.
I should also mention that the metadata file does not show the correct date modified, but gives the same date as the creation date.  Also the thumbnails for raw images that have been modified correctly show the icon that indicates it was modified.
Also, I see that when you hover over a thumbnail in Bridge CS5 nothing is revealed about the file.  In CS3 Bridge hovering over a thumbnail showed several pieces of data about the file including anything in the file info.
Is this just how Bridge CS5 works or have I missed a setting somewhere in Bridge or Windows?

Curt, thanks for your response.  The tool tips
was not checked and did result in "hovering"
working.  I'm not sure why that's called tool tips, but okay.
I have just installed the software in the last
few days.  I almost immediately got an update
notice and installed the update.  I thought I was
up to date.  Then, just a while ago I got another
update notice.  After installing it the sorting
now works.  Thanks much.  Problems seem to be solved.

• Why does Firefox DRAG when editing files online?

2nd request for help.. :)
Why does firefox 9 drag when either editing files online, or entering code into a description box. The more FF thinks there are spelling errors, the worse the dragging becomes. Sometimes it is so bad the mouse cursor is stuck to the screen.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

• Why is firefox suddenly denying access to reliable websites calling them "untrusted"?

My husband has been using a reliable medical site for years...suddenly the message popped up "untrusted site." We contacted the site--they connected us to their tech support--he tried everything with us over the phone (cleaning cookies, downloading latest version of firefox) but the only way to solve it was to give firefox the go-ahead to ignore their warning. We then got the site. Today, the same message popped up on another site he uses regularly. Any ideas why this should suddenly happen on reliable sites used successfully for years?

I would like to block this site. Kindly help me to block this site.

• Can No Longer Sort New Files By Date!

Whenever I download new files and try to access them in finder by sorting by ANY of the date related fields, the new files always show up under "No Date" making them a pain to access. WHY???
Most other files show up in the different categories "Yesterday", "1 Week ago", "More than 30 days ago" etc. But always my new files show up in "No Date" and I have to scroll down and search for them instead of seeing them at the top of the list! Why???
I tried sorting by all of the date related fields... Date Added, Date Created, Date Modified, Date Opened...none of them work.

phoenix1887 wrote:
Even with screenshots for example. I can take screen shots and the files always show up in "No Date". If I sort by "Date Added", "Date Created", or even open the files and/or modify them and then sort by one of those dates they should show up at the top of the list but they always show up in "No date"
Try trashing you Finder preferences and restart.

• Why does Firefox switch which window is active?

It seems like nobody has had this problem since Firefox 3, but I've been having it since Firefox 5, and 7 hasn't solved it yet.
I work with multiple Firefox windows open, each with multiple tabs open. Often I will click a link in one window, then switch to another window while the page in window one opens.
The problem is that when the page has finished loading, Firefox will switch the focus back to window one, ripping me out of whatever I'm doing in window two. There's no warning, no flash on the taskbar, just a jump to the window where a page has finished loading.
I have changed my Windows XP settings to prevent apps from stealing focus and changed to notification time setting to max, so it's not a Windows issue (as near as I can tell; no telling what new default Microsoft has decided everybody wants).
If it matters, I switch active windows via ALT-TAB (I'm a dinosaur who started keyboarding before Windows hit the market).

This issue can be caused by an extension or plugin that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Why is firefox opening new window instead of tabs?

Until today when I clicked on a link it would open a new tab. For some reason when I click on a link now it opens a new window. I'm not sure why. I check my options and it's set up to open tabs. Yesterday it was opening in tabs. I just don't know what's going on, hope you can help.

• Why would firefox suddenly decide not to let me open more tabs?

Yesterday, my firefox was working fine. Today, I went to ope a new tab, and nothing happened. I tried going file>new tab, I tried ctrl+t, and I tried clicking the little box next to the already open tab. Nothing happened. Is there a way to fix this?

• Why is firefox suddenly signing me out of the sites I visit regularly?

Ever since I updated to my current version. It is also not saving my tabs when I close the window.

Being signed out of all sites that you visit regularly is an indication that there is a problem with the cookies file. Try renaming it to see if that helps.
# Open the profile folder, for details on accessing it see the profiles article
# Close Firefox
# In the profile folder rename cookies.sqlite to cookies.sqlite.old
# Re-start Firefox and see if you can now remember login details
For not saving the tabs, on the Tools menu select Options to open the Options dialog. Go to the General panel and make sure that the setting "When Firefox Opens" is set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time".
If it is already set to that, in the profile folder (with Firefox closed) delete sessionstore.js and if it exists sessionstore.bak, this will force Firefox to create new version of the file that stores sessions details.

• Why does Firefox on my Windows 7 PC hang (become unresponsive) while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts?

Firefox hangs (becomes unresponsive) when accessing many sites including Gmail. Eventually, when hung, Firefox will throw up a window saying "WARNING: A script has become unresponsive" or, in the case of Gmail, the page itself will say "Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem."
IE8 and Google Chrome are working normally. I've tried Firefox in safe mode, re-installing and even running Firefox portable from a USB thumb drive. Each time with the same result—Firefox hangs or becomes unresponsive while it waits for most pages to load or run scripts.

Your problem sounds like the one that a co-worker and I started to have about the same time. Check your Symantec client management control log. You might see a line like the following.
Date and Time Severity Level Action Test / Production Description API Class Rule Caller Process ID Caller Process Parameter User
2012-07-30 10:48:09 AM 15 Block Production Unauthorized NT call rejected by protection driver. System Built-in rule 1608 FlashplayerPlu FuncID-B6H, R... None
At first we thought that it was a Javascript problem until we noticed this log. The key words are 'Block' and 'FlashPlayerPlu'. This problem recently started for us, perhaps with a software push 1-2 weeks ago. Internet Explorer does not hang when accessing pages with Flash.
The Flash page does eventually load after a long time. However, since the whole browser hangs for a while, for the most part having the Flash plugin enabled makes Firefox unusable if accessing pages with Flash.
Disabling the Flash plugin solves the hanging problem, but I do not know what is causing the problem, nor do I know when a combination of Windows 7, Flash, and Symantec will work. Your later version of Symantec shows that we might have the problem for a while, but I do not know what customization CSC did with Symantec. My coworker did run a complete virus scan, uncovering nothing. Another co-worker is running Windows XP. She does not have the problem, but I do not know what other versions of software she is running.

• Why is Firefox suddenly blank - no address, search or tool bars, uninstall/reinstall d/n resolve--now only v 3.6 will work?

I was using the latest version of FF and last week the browser froze and when I restarted it was completely blank. I went through the help section, tried uninstalling, manually removing files, and reinstalling several different versions, but the only one that will work at this point is 3.6.28. Your help sections and non-existent customer service SUCK - I don't have days/hours to mess with this and will abandon FF altogether if adequate assistance is not promptly received.

hello, in principle does the picture/description in the article reflect the problem that you're seeing? i'm not sure how those addons would behave in firefox 3.6 which is outdated and no longer supported by mozilla...
please download and install the latest version of firefox (16.0.1 atm) from getfirefox.com and then try to follow the troubleshooting procedure in the article step by step (launch in safemode, then disable suspicious addons/or if not sure all of them). if this resolves the issue, it would also be interesting which extension were present in your case. thank you!

• Why has Firefox suddenly started trying to close everything when I try to close a preview pane of a single, seperate webpage??

Since the last update, everytime I try to close a firefox window from the preview, firefox wants to close ALL of my windows and tabs. I just want to close a pop up, I don't think it's unreasonable to be able to do that without actually switching to it. I haven't had any problem with this in the past.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Something, most likely some variant of the Nimda worm, is trying to infect your Web Server. There's little you can do to stop this. Fortunately, only Windows machines running Microsoft IIS are vulnerable, so you can safely ignore the resulting error messages.

• Why is Firefox suddenly adding things (e.g. special toolbars) without my express acceptance, and how do I stop it?

Firefox would always advise me when there is going to be an update, and ask if I wanted to accept an add-on or toolbar included with the update. Now it appears that it is automatically updating and including the toolbars and add-ons without asking me. How do I change the settings so I can stop that?

hello, firefox updates never include toolbars or other unwanted programs - please always download firefox from the original location at getfirefox.com.
you might have a problem with adware on your pc. please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.
