Why is Flash Player not supported by iWeb and dotMac?

I have been a loyal Mac user for 20 years, but have always felt in some ways penalized for this and never more than now. I have just created a lovely website using iWeb to enable others to whom I send the link to view my video show reels. The problem is that most PC users can't easily see the content, if at all. Even with buttons provided on every page to link them to the "QuickTime for PC download" page, they just don't seem to be able to make it work. I understand the problem - QuickTime isn't the best media player for the PC and if their computer/system is not fully up to date, then it's just too bad. So I need to be able to upload my movies in Flash as they WILL then be viewable by the vast majority of people. I think that Apple, through iWeb should support this as, like it or not, we live in a PC dominated world and by restricting Mac users to QuickTime, Apple is isolating us and penalizing us for buying their products. Does anyone else feel as I do?

Not really.
Apple created iWeb as a simple program anyone can use to share their photos, video and blogs by creating cool looking websites that otherwise you would need to know html code or an expensive professional program to achieve. There are compatibility issues in all aspects of web design - especially between macs and windows machines, regardless of the software you use to create your site.
If you want to have more complex web design aspects like flash, invest in a professional software program.
Another solution is you can save your video as .avi files for your Vista friends...
I'm betting that Apple is working on adding flash capability to iWeb - it will just take some time since this is only the 2nd version. In the mean time, I will continue to enjoy the easy-to-use programs that they provide at an affordable price. And personally, I think Flash is over-rated and over-used on too many sites. But that's just my opinion...

Apple and Adobe could never come up with an OS that liked flash and a version of flash that worked on the OS. So never the twain will meet. and now Adobe is abandoning mobile flash in favor of other things, so it's become a moot point.
With the surge in the number of mobile devices and the fact that a lot of them don't use flash, site creators will need to take mobile devices into account when they create their sites and assess their accessibility.

Then no matter how often I download and install flash player I still get the message that I need to upgrade my flash player. When I go check which version I have, I always get the message that I have the most current one. I run Mozilla Firefox with Windows. I don't know anything else.

This means you don't have the latest version installed. Update to 11.9.900.117, and Firefox will allow it: Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

There is no more Flash Player for Android and there won't be another. Android is no longer compatible with Flash Player. Playing Flash content is very processor consumptive and it drains your battery, also shortening the life of it. Android (Google) recommends using either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" as your browser if you need to view Flash content with a mobile device running Android. They're both free in the GooglePlay store. These browsers use "server side" rendering to reduce the load on your device.

I have checked in your internet, it told me Flash Player is pre-installed with Internet Explorer in Windows 8. and Either Flash Player is disabled or ActiveX Filter is ON. Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

I downloaded Adobe Flash Player when i got my Macbook in Dec 2011, and until now it has worked fine. Today I downloaded Adobe Reader to view a PDF file, but I decided I preferred the Apple Preview, so I deleted the Adobe Reader off my system. I then tried to listen to a radio station online which requires Flash Player and it stated that I did not have the Flash Player on my laptop. I then tried to download Adobe Flash Player again to my laptop, and the download appeared to have worked but when I try to use websites like YouTube it asks for me to download Flash Player. Can you tell me why this is? And how to get Adobe Flash Player back on my Mac and for it to work again.

When I open Task Manager the only thing I see is "Tasks". I do not see the Processes tab. I have seen this in the past along with measures of other activity, but not anything now. I tried the Start/Search - nothing about Processes.
Once the Task Manager is running, select the Processes tab. On older Windows version you may need to click on the Process Name or Image Name header to sort the process names.
Now right-click on every process that the Flash Player installer needs to close (e.g. iexplore.exe), then select End Process.

As a user experience professional I am amazed by the iPhone BUT dismayed that Flash is not supported. When should we expect support?? So much important information lives within Flash today kind of mind boggling to consider how many people will be pulling their hair out when they learn that their Flash content will not exist in iPhone.

If he's truly not sure about something, or doesn't want to say, he normally just says "we don't talk about future products" (& he says that a lot). So many interpret "maybe" and other leading statements to = "yes, later".
Remember though that Flash software will take up more storage on your iPhone.

Though if you're requesting hardware changes for iPhone v2 you may want to wait a week (or a month?)...they're probably going to be inundated right now by requests for software changes to the current iPhone.

Hello, I am wondering why they do not have flash player for samsung galaxy tab 3? I just recently got the 8.0 sized one and it has great features,but no flash player? To have an up to date electronic device,and older electronic devices carry it,but you won't put it on new devices? Is there a way to get it to work or download it? It has stopped me from viewing many different things on my tablet unfortunately and this may cause me to return it.

Going back to 2006, when Apple released the first iPhone and iOS 1, Steve Jobs was insistent that it be made incompatible with Flash Player because (in his words) playing Flash content is processor consumptive and kills batteries, and well as shortening battery life in mobile devices. Android came along a little while later, but their reason for droppiong Flash last year was the same.
Adobe continued developing "security updates" for the Flash Player that worked with older versions of Android, but even that ended in September of this year. Adobe will not continue development of a product for an incompatible format.
Android recommends either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" browser from the GooglePlay store (both are free). They use "server side" technology to play Flash content without taxing your tablet or phone's processor.

If I'd known so many websites rely on Flash Player to run their content I would not have wasted my money on an Android tablet. I did not know that Adobe has withdrawn support for Android devices. I have version 4.1.1 and I've downloaded the archived Flash Player version that is available on the Adobe site, which only goes up to version 4.0 and so it makes no difference, I still cannot watch content on web sites that use Adobe Flash Player. I have made sure I have ticked allow unknown in settings but that makes no difference. Does anyone know please of a solution or are all Android tablet owners stuffed and at the mercy of having to wait months or years for web site developers to create alternatives to Flash Player for running content on Android devices?

I don't know... probably the same reason a For dealer should tell you that a Focus ISN'T the ideal vehicle to pull a 26 ft cabin cruiser. We live in an age where a company can be "killed" in a day by "viral" complaints from consumers. Look at B of A and what happened when they decided to gouge people for electronic transactions in 2011. Nearly a million and a half customers dropped them in seventy two hours... over a $3.50 fee. Imagine if everyone like you, who bought a tablet with the mistaken perception that it was "ready" to run Internet video, decided to "stick it to" Samsung, or Amazon or Apple... or all three over it. I mean, a tablet costs a LOT MORE than $3.50, and you basically just wasted your money, like a fee for something everyone does anyway.
As to who fired the first shot in the war over Flash that goes all the way back to the first iPhone and Apple. THEY set the standard that mobile devices wouldn't be Flash friendly. The reason? Another thing retailers won't tell you:
Flash content is VERY processor consumptive, and as such eats batteries in mobile devices. That was Apple's number one reason for making iOS incompatible with Flash more than six years ago. The rest of the mobile industry followed suit. Adobe didn't see the sense in pursuing continued development of something that was used less and less with each passing week. Flash is a dying technology and it WILL be replaced by HTML5 video content in less than two years. As a web designer, the "mobile web" has changed about 80% of what I do. That includes no longer developing "inaccessible" Flash content for clients, even over their objections.

An uninformed consumer is an easily suckered consumer, and if a retailer like, say... BestBuy, won't let you "fire up" a tablet and check it out before you buy, there's something they're hiding from you. That alone should be a red flag. On the other hand, if you just "bought the first tablet you saw advertised", then there's really no place to stick the fault, is there? I've NEVER bought ANY electronic device without researching it first, and with one exception where a retailer sold me one thing, ( a G5 iMac) advertised and described as another (a 1st generation Intel iMac), for which I received a FULL refund, I've ALWAYS known exactly what I was getting and what it would or would not do. "Caveat Emptor" as they say. I'm not saying this is your fault, but it's not liek this "snuck up" on the Android market overnight. We're talking 18 to 24 months ago.

I want to watch a tv programme originally shown on Channel 4 UK. I have found the programme but when I try to access it I am told that I need Adobe flash player, which is not supported on my iPad. I have tried iTunes but it is not available. How can I get to see this programme?

Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.

Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.

Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

I use apps and and visit websites that require the Adobe Flash player and no other. Does anyone have any ideas for getting around this problem?

The work around for this is very simple.
1) go to Adobe's site and download Flash on your phone
2) download and install Dolphin Browser
3) begin using Dolphin as your browser and flash movies etc... will play.
The issue here is not that JB does NOT support Flash, it is the browsers do not support Flash since Adobe stopped supporting flash in the mobile arena. Dolphin still supports flash and it works just fine on Jellybean phones.
