Why is Flash Player play back poor now?

Flash Player has been poor for me lately under Snow Leopard. Video intermittantly skips on all playbacks (audio is fine), including on YouTube. All system updates applied. I even used Combo udpaters when available. FlashPlayer is updated. Emptied caches etc using AppleJack. Even used DiskWarrior. Everything is working fine but FlashPlayer. Same problem under all browsers. (iMac Intel, 2 GB RAM, 2.0 GHZ)
Interestingly, on the same machine using web browser in WindowsXP (under Parallels) that Flash is working fine.

As stated in my post, Flash Player is working fine in my WindowsXP emulation of Parallels 7 on the same machine with only part of my iMac's RAM assigned to it. What is wrong with this picture?
What's "wrong" IMO is that windows allocates resources and/or prioritizes processes differently than OSX.  Yes, OSX may be underlying Parallels but I don't know how Parallels works with respect to accessing OSX resources and prioritizing it's processes within OSX.

  • Why is Flash Player playing a previously loaded video behind Chrome?

    Every time I play a Flash Player based video in Chrome, in the background (not visible) it loads a video I played just before updating the Flash Player in Safari. It seems to be stuck in the cache, I've tried clearing the cache in Chrome but it hasn't helped.
    Anyone else experienced this and have a fix?
    Running Chrome Version 24.0.1312.57 on Mac OS X ML

    I've never seen this reported before.  Are you seeing or just hearing this other video?  Is a new tab/window being shown in Chrome or is Safari being launched?  Flash's cache should have been cleared when you reset Chrome's but just in case please try the steps in this FAQ:
    How do I clear my Flash Player cache and settings?
    Thanks,

  • Why is flash player 10.2 hanging on the browser on Mac? (providing detail information)

    I have been using NetConnection to implement record/playback feature in flash, but a lots of users recently complaint the flash player freezing the broswer randomly during the recording. so I did some investigation and found why the flash player hanging on the broswer.
    it is because the flash player waiting a 'CLOSE_WAIT' tcp socket there forever.
    tcp4     200      0  10.100.1.45.65508      158.205.xx.xx.80      CLOSE_WAIT
    Background information:
    os system: Darwin flash-iMac.local 9.8.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.8.0: Wed Jul 15 16:55:01 PDT 2009; root:xnu-1228.15.4~1/RELEASE_I386 i386
    flash player version: You have version 10,2,152,26 installed
    broswer: firefox3.6 (basically, other browsers have same problem)
    so the issue is, the tcp socket connection will be closing by the peer, which just sent [FIN,ACK] to try close the socket, but the flash player have no intention to send [FIN, ACK] back to close the socket, I guess it might still want to send some data out, but even I invoked NetConnection.close method, the flash player has beening still hanging on there. so the funny thing is, if I unplug the network cable, the browser is able to wake up, I guess that is because the tcp socket is reset by RST, so the flash player catch the signal instead just stop there to wait something forever.
    please guide me how I can solve this issue, it is obviously a flash player bug, whatever reason, you just cannot block the process forever.

  • Has anyone been able to contact Adobe to learn why their Flash Player does not work on Mac OS 10.6.8, no matter how many updates you install?  This seems like a big error by Adobe.

    I have thee Mac computers with Mac OS 10.6.8, one of which is a Mac Pro.  No matter how many updates I install from Adobe, their Flash Player does not work on any of these 3 computers.  I don't know how to contact Adobe Systems about this problem, but I think it is their responsibility to make sure that their so-called "universal" software works proplerly on a relatively recent operating system like OS 10.6.8 that is still in widespread use.  When you install the updates, nothing happens -- not even an error message.  What is the point of a universal player that is not universal?  It works fine on my MacBook Pro with OS 9 Mavericks, but it does not work at all -- indeed, has never worked -- on my 3 Macs with OS 10.6.8.  Has anyone contacted Adobe Systems to find out why the Flash Player does not work with OS 10.6.8 and what they plan to do about it?

    Where are you getting Flash from?
    Get the appropriate dmg installer here and then run it.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
    If it still won't install, do these two things: First uninstall any Flash by going into the second level Hard Drive Library>Internet Plug-ins, and trash the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt. Then boot into Safe Boot, Shift at the startup chime (give it much longer than a usual boot) and run the installer while booted in Safe Boot.

  • Why does flash player not work with facebook?

    Why does flash player not work with fcebook?  Whenever I wish to view a video, I get the message that i need to upgrade my flash player. Then no matter how often I download and install flash player I still get the message that I need to upgrade my flash player.  When I go check which version I have, I always get the message that I have the most current one.  I run Mozilla Firefox with Windows.  I don't know anything else.

    This means you don't have the latest version installed.  Update to 11.9.900.117, and Firefox will allow it: Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

    If you downloaded Flash Player from the standard location http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ then you WILL have the option to decline the bundled install:
    If you download the installer from Mike's link above (which is posted several dozen times in this forum every day), then you will not get any bundled software.

  • Is there a way to have one flash player play all moives on a web page ?

    Hi,
      Is there a way to have one flash player play all movies on a web page ?   For example, you have a list of FLV movies on a page and you click on any them and it will play on the same player on the web page. Or does each movie needs it's own ?
    Thanks in advance..
    Peter

    Yes, for the design I made, the movies are loaded from the server.  Here is the code for the design.  It is done using AS2, and the stage includes two buttons (s1, s2) for playing the individual videos, one button to play them both (playall), one after the other, and the video object (video1_video) that was added via small menu you find at the top of the library panel's frame.
    I cannot say this would work directly for your implementation, but it gives you some things you can look into so that you can figure out how.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    // ignore whatever code is above this... the forum added it, not me
    stop();
    ncount = -1;
    var connection_nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    connection_nc.connect(null);
    var stream_ns:NetStream = new NetStream(connection_nc);
    stream_ns.setBufferTime(3);
    stream_ns.onStatus = function(infoObject:Object) {
            for (var prop in infoObject) {
                   if(infoObject[prop] == "NetStream.Play.Stop" && ncount == 0){
                       video1_video.attachVideo(stream_ns);
                       stream_ns.play("20051210-w50s.flv");
                       ncount += 1;
    playall.onRelease = function(){
          ncount = 0;
          video1_video.attachVideo(stream_ns);
          stream_ns.play("barsandtone.flv");
    s1.onRelease = function(){
          video1_video.attachVideo(stream_ns);
          stream_ns.play("barsandtone.flv");
    s2.onRelease = function(){
          ncount = -1;
          video1_video.attachVideo(stream_ns);
          stream_ns.play("20051210-w50s.flv");
    I don't deal with video very often, so I have not created an AS3 version of this.

  • Why does Flash Player keep sending me notifications to update to the version I already have?

    Why does Flash Player keep sending me notifications to update to the version I already have? The result is always an error message telling me that the version is already running. (Desktop Computer; Windows Vista OS; Firefox; Adobe Flash Version 11.8.800.94)

    I don't know; can you post a screenshot of such a notification?
    Did you update both ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) and plugin (for Firefox)?

  • I recently installed Java 6 update 33, and adobe flash player 11 plugin, and now can't play any videos from any website in Mozilla, but Google Chrome works.

    Cannot play any video from any website in Mozilla after installing Java 6 update 33, and adobe flash player 11 plugin. However, I can play videos from Google Chrome and also from Internet Explorer. For example, when I'm trying to play a you tube video in Mozilla, a black screen comes up with following error message: "An error has occurred. Please try again later."
    (This is like the Wizard of Oz -- when the man comes to the little window in the door and says to Dorothy, "Come back tomorrow." )

    This may be caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update.

  • Why won't Flash Player, play?

    The Flash player installs fine, so it says, and then when the window comes up to show it is working, no video to verify it is working.  Now what?  I have taken the security settings off and deleted all the past history, deleted old versions of Player.  Still will not let me access sites that say I have to upgrade.  I see a lot of problems with this flash player 10 but no real solutions.  I am running IE8 with Vista.  Any help will be muchly appreciated.

    Hi there.
    I am new to this forum and signed up just so I could include my own frustrations with this very same problem!
    I am located in Canada and prefer to watch streaming video over regular TV.  For some reason, the CBC player stopped working for me when I upgraded my Flash Player. I do not recall which version of Adobe Flash I had installed when this problem started to occur but I know it wasn't the most current version (10,3,181,34) that I have now. But it definitely seemed to follow the Flash update.
    I have Flash version 10,3,181,34 now. I have updated to Firefox 5. Active X, javascript, etc is all enabled. I have walked through all of Adobe's troubleshooting steps. I have tried disabling my anti-virus. I tried re-installing all of my browsers, plug-ins etc. yet the problem still persists. And I am in the exact same boat as the poster in that I can still watch Flash player streaming content from all other websites but not from CBC.ca!
    So I was happy to see someone made a post about it because it is incredibly frustrating and CBC.ca doesn't respond to inquiries/troubleshooting complaints directly.
    I'm pretty technologically adapt as I am a system administrator and lon-time IT professional. Should I ever get this problem resolved, I will be sure to post here, otherwise I will pop back now and again and see if anyone else has come up with a solution.
    Cheers and thanks again to the poster for posting this!

  • My flash player was upgraded and now my fox tab add on is not working. Ive uninstalled and added back but have had no success

    What do i need to do to get it working again? it just shows a blue screen

    Thanks.
    Try this:
    Make sure you folders are marked as not hidden. Click your start menu, type in "show hidden files and folders". Click on it. A new window will appear that should be titled "Folder Options". Click on View. Scroll down until you see Files and Folders. Make sure to check "Show hidden files, folders, and drives". Click Apply and then OK.
    Next, open your browser and go to your foxtab page (Ctrl + Q). Right click on the background. You should see a menu with "Global Settings". Click on it. A new window should appear that says "Flash Player Settings Manager". Click on Advanced tab. Scroll down to "Trusted Location Settings". Click on it. In the window, click on "Add". Next window (Add Site), click on "Add Folder".
    If you showed your folders and files, the path should be easy to follow:
    Add Folder - Computer - C: - Users - YOUR COMPUTER NAME (username) - AppData - Roaming - Mozilla - Firefox - Profiles
    You do not have to open Profiles all the way. Just click on the folder. Click OK. You should now see it in you Trusted Location Settings.
    You may need to close the browser window and reopen it to make the changes take effect.
    Hope this helps.
    Let me know if it doesn't.

  • I recently upgraded to Flash Player 11.4x and now videos will not play in Yahoo.

    I have Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and Internet Explorer 8 on an x86 pc.  Everything worked just fine until the upgrade.  Also Hulu.com free version videos don't work properly in full screen mode.  Not sure whether that is related.

    (Edited)
    Hi, Jeromie, (and all the other viewers who seem to find this thread interesting)
    Let me give you my latest observations:
    Until today, I had not even heard of a reference to 'HTML5' videos.  (I now realize that HTML videos have been around for quite a while, I'm just not a video junkie.)  And interestingly, until today, whenever I got a blank video screen on Yahoo News or others, it would only tell me to update to the latest Flash Player and suggested nothing else.
    Well, I had already upgraded to the latest version Flash Player mentioned above, but my system does not seem to recognize that fact.  Perhaps it did not load properly.  I have tried 4 times without (apparent) success.
    Now also, the blank video screens mention updating to a 'HTML5 browser'.  I have Internet Explorer 8, not 9 or above, so I opted to install Google Chrome Frame per the article (which also indicates that this is a trial situation).  I rebooted and retried, but that did not work either.
    I have not yet uninstalled Flash Player to rule it out as causing the HTML5 problem.
    I also did not disable Hardware Acceleration in Flash per the article because nothing showed up in the box to click on.  Blank box, no icon.
    I had previously tried to download an archived Flash .zip file to my desktop but could not get it to unzip and install properly (I have done this many times before on other files), so I gave up.
    And, lastly, just what exactly do you mean about 'browser updates'?  Are you refering to a 'version' of Internet Explorer 8 or to other software updates?
    Sorry about that,
    VernonDale

  • Downloading Flash Player plays advertisement -- and installs a virus?

    I've had this problem 3 times consecutively trying to restore my system after it was destroyed by what seems to be a virus.  It took that many tries before I realized the in-your-face advertisement and problem process are coming from Adobe itself.
    THE PROBLEM
    The apparently viral process runs as SVCHOST and uses the RasMan (remote access manager) service, apparently to transmit the contents of your hard drive to someone across the internet.  It takes 99% of CPU, 1/2 Gig of memory, a lot of disk activity, and high transmit volume with low receive volume over the network.  Unplug the network, and the SVCHOST falls to about 35% CPU with more intermittent disk activity.  Plug the network back in, and it climbs back to 99% with high disk activity, and high transmit volume.  It seems clear that it's copying the hard drive out to the network.  Before I realized that, I thought it might be an internal process and just let it run to get it over with.  It just got worse, finally running the machine out of memory and making it almost too slow to terminate the SVCHOST.  When I finally did terminate it, the machine returned to normal.
    WHY I THINK IT COMES FROM ADOBE
    I restored my system to a known clean state from a disk image.  I've done that 5 times now.  The first thing I do on booting the restored system is wait and check for that process -- it's not there.  Next, I update Firefox, then wait again.  No problem, as long as you don't click on the Update Flash Player link.  Then you click on that link, and immediately there's a pop-up and it plays audio saying "You've won a free Xbox", or else some other advertisement -- it's not always the same -- and also opens a tab to a site outside of both Firefox and Adobe.  Some advertising site.  So, I first thought I'd been spoofed by a false advertisement and unwittingly clicked on a malicious ad banner.  Restored the system again, and next time went directly to Adobe.  Clicked the link to download Flash Player, and... immediately, a similar ad popup and tab appeared, and it played a "congratulations!  .... you've won ____" audio clip.
    Right after each incident where the ad appeared, the computer began bogging down with disk activity and high CPU consumption by that SVCHOST process, and apparently copying out the hard drive to the internet (high network transmit activity).
    IT'S NOT THE PLAYER ITSELF
    I never even got around to downloading and installing the player.  The trouble started right after that ad popping up.
    CONCLUSION
    So, Adobe has sold out.  Not only is Flash responsible for most viruses transmitted, now just to get the player Adobe itself is shoving an obnoxious ad in our faces which installs a trojan.  A Malwarebytes scan before the Adobe-shoved ad came up clear.  Another scan after the Adobe-shoved ad detected a trojan and attempted to remove it, but it just comes back every time you restart the machine, and copies your business machine's hard drive out to the network.
    So, Adobe, who has obtained copies of my business's intellectual property (I'm a software developer) and financial records, as well as sensitive data such as accounts and passwords?
    CONSEQUENCES
    Incidentally, this came at the moment when I was transitioning from developing native applications for desktop and mobile platforms.  It was my intention to transition to using Adobe Flex for most work in the next few years at least.  I had the Flash Builder on two of my systems, and was starting to work with it.
    But this incident, combined with numerous past incidents that have made me absolutely hate both Flash and Adobe, was the final straw.  I have deleted all Adobe products from all of my systems, and will not be using Adobe Flash or Flex or any other Adobe products for development or anything else.  Now I understand why Steve Jobs also dumped Adobe -- it's nothing but a viral company!  Adobe itself is like a virus.
    Thanks for wasting a day on a holiday weekend trying to restore my system just so I can resolve a minor customer issue.  Thanks, gals.  Hope you enjoy the millions you get from that advertisement, but in my case it caused me to return to native development for all platforms instead of using Flash, Air, Flex, or any of the other viral stuff you use to invade 99% of all systems on the planet and then shove ads and more spyware on us.
    I've also uninstalled Photoshop.  (The uninstallation took 45 minutes.)  I can just use GIMP, it's good enough now.  Adobe = BANNED, because all that Adobe stands for anymore is VIRAL.
    Thanks again

    Thanks for the reply.  I forgot to include:
    -- Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) running on a 1.9 MHz Turion X2, with 2G memory
    -- Already-installed Flash version was 10.x, I think 10.1, but hadn't been updated for months since it was a restored backup.
    -- Firefox 3.6.13, just updated to 3.6.18   (yes, I've tried 4.0, it was slow and annoying, so I went back)
    -- Other software on the machine: Microsoft Office, development tools (Visual Studio, Eclipse with Andriod and RIM plugins, BlackBerry JDE, Sun Java SDK, Firefox, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Adobe Reader, Adobe AIR, Adobe Shockwave, Flash Builder, and a few old trusted versions of minor utilities such as WinZip, DivX, Grep, etc.)
    -- Only changes for several months were:  Installed Flash Builder, updated Firefox, tried to update Flash Player
    I only reacted this way because I've lost SO MUCH time and also data, adding up no doubt to YEARS of time, primarily because the platforms of two companies (Microsoft and Adobe) are like warm, moist, undressed flesh wounds that just invite every kind of infection to enter and flourish.  It's not just their prevalence, it's their design.  For example, why can a Flash program insert native code into a SVCHOST, when it's nearly impossible to figure out what's running in the SVCHOST, what it's doing, where it came from, and how to kill it permanently?  That just creates conditions favorable to malware.
    Anyway, after restoring my system to a snapshot of a known clean state, I first selected Check for Updates in Firefox, it downloaded it update.  Then I unplugged from the net before letting it restart and install, and it did its thing.  Then I plugged back in and went directly to www.adobe.com, selected Flash Player under Downloads, clicked Download Now, and then up popped the advertisement right after the click.
    Previously, I let Firefox finish its update still plugged in -- it took me to their site, where a banner appeared saying Flash needed to be updated.  I clicked that, and a similar ad popped up (for a different product, and using a different URL, but the same type of thing -- an instant audio message and a new tab plus a small pop-up.)
    So it seems clear that Adobe has decided to make some extra millions by forcing everyone who downloads Flash Player (at least from a Windows machine last night and this morning) to hear "Congratulations!  You've just won an imaginary Xbox 360 in compensation for letting our ad partners copy your hard drive and pay us money at your expense -- you thought Adobe would just give you a Player for free?!  If you're further stupid enough to try to claim your imaginary prize, just enter more personal information, as well as the address and phone number of your girlfriend, because what Flash is all about is invading the home, popping up and penetrating the market by force, never really taking NO for an answer -- we'll just starve her and keep asking until she says Yes."
    Ruthless advertising is just completely out of control on the internet.  When you show up on the site of a major company and get hit with an obnoxious scam pop-up ad that's just like something you'd get from making the mistake of visiting some unknown website -- you know, the kind that escape the borders of the window and say you've just won a million dollars, and that are usually followed by a phony "virus scanner" taking over your machine any moment -- then internet ethics have been completely overrun by the glut for advertising money and collecting valuable information from users.
    Can't BELIEVE I got a pop-up ad and spyware from trying to download Flash Player directly from Adobe's site, what is this company coming to?  I don't remember the details exactly, but there was some other instance -- with Reader, I think -- where they were bundling spyware with it, and doing it in a way that you would not realize it would be installed, and then it was hard to get rid of completely.  There was a big row about it, and I remember having to restore my system multiple times there too, to ensure no contamination.  That's why I'd gone back to an earlier version of Reader, but now I've deleted all Adobe software completely.  It is the most unethical of all the big technology companies, no-one is more ruthless or viral than Adobe.
    You've got plenty of money, you're rolling in money, and you resort to stuff that crooks use to make their start-up capital?

  • Why does Flash player not work on samsung galaxy tablets?

    Hello, I am wondering why they do not have flash player for samsung galaxy tab 3? I just recently got the 8.0 sized one and it has great features,but no flash player? To have an up to date electronic device,and older electronic devices carry it,but you won't put it on new devices? Is there a way to get it to work or download it? It has stopped me from viewing many different things on my tablet unfortunately and this may cause me to return it.

    Android dropped all support for Flash last year (June 2012).
    Going back to 2006, when Apple released the first iPhone and iOS 1, Steve Jobs was insistent that it be made incompatible with Flash Player because (in his words) playing Flash content is processor consumptive and kills batteries, and well as shortening battery life in mobile devices. Android came along a little while later, but their reason for droppiong Flash last year was the same.
    Adobe continued developing "security updates" for the Flash Player that worked with older versions of Android, but even that ended in September of this year. Adobe will not continue development of a product for an incompatible format.
    Android recommends either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" browser from the GooglePlay store (both are free). They use "server side" technology to play Flash content without taxing your tablet or phone's processor.
