Why is font from 'Fire' application (IM) on Mac bolded in IM on Windows?

Using Fire and font AppleGothic or American Typewriter in IM text and when text is displayed from AOL (AIM) on Windows the font is a bolded, sans-serif font.
There appears to be no way to prevent this text from being bolded in a Windows display. Is this correct?
Is there some font from the Mac that will not display as bolded in a Windows display?

Those fonts are probably not on the Windows system, so it replaces them with a default font.
See if you can change the default font on the Windows system or use a font which is available on both, Tahoma, Verdana or Arial are examples of fonts which you can generally expect to see on both PCs and Macs.

Since upgrading to Firefox 4, I've noticed that on many (not all) websites, the font becomes abnormally large and bold. For example, in Yahoo mail, I can't tell unread e-mails from read ones because everything is in the same bold font. Any ideas?

Yay! At last, a working solution. Spot on: it's Arial and Helvetica that are giving trouble. And just in case: after disabling hardware acceleration, as indicated by Transpar3nt, don't forget you have to ''restart'' Firefox to enjoy the workaround!

Why is the "From:" field being changed in Mac Mail. I have multiple gmail accounts setup and it seems to change the "FROM" field even though I've selected which account to use to send the email.

Somtimes when I send or forward emails, it uses the wrong FROM field even though I'm declaring
specifically which account to use.
This becomes apparent when the person replies to my message and it goes to the wrong account

Check you accounts in Mail and make sure each account has the correct outgoing server address. Check the box to use only that server.
Second, go to the gmail website and in settings under the account tab, make sure you have the correct settings for replying to messages.

I am Missing Fonts across Several Applications

Over the last few weeks when I open an application from ILife '06, or some of my recent projects in other apps, I come up with missing fonts. I have seen this happen in IWeb, IDVD, Livetype, InDesign, and Illustrator. Should I replace these fonts by dragging from my Font Book? How do I do that with the ILife Apps? Does this sound like a virus is corrupting my otherwise reliable Mac? If so, what Virus management software is recommended? Thank you for your suggestions.

hello , i'm new to discussions,
i lost some of my most used fonts
from all applications. i installed tiger
almost a year ago, things were working fine.
i use fonts in photoshop cs2, appleworks, etc.,
one night i went to use my fonts, they were gone,
not all but the ones i use all the time, i.e. bradley hand,
bickley script, etc.
i shut my mac down, restarted and they were back.
this happened about a week later, i went searching for
font book, found it, looked, found none of my fonts in there.
re started mac they were back, this happened two more times
and then after restart they were gone for good.
my mail still lists them but when i try to set them as preferences
it goes to a different font... don't know what to do, but i'm losing my
patience. i have 2 other users, the fonts are not there either...

Rajagopal.pngr :- It is only a holding charge, it is not a permanent charge. If it isn't refunded within a few days or so (and it quite possibly won't be over a weekend) then you can query the charge with Apple.

How to make the application access the fonts from outside library?

actually the fonts located in the library are considered from the system/library/fonts path. is it possible to make it accessible from outside that path through programatically for indesign applications? if yes means, how to do it?

the fonts menu inside InDesign lists the fonts from
for mac: System/Library/Fonts
Adobe InDesign CS2/fonts
for windows: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\Fonts
is it possible to list the font from someother folder rather than this folders.

You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the Store of that Country...

When you go to the Google Maps app on the iPod does it correctly find your location? The iPod's locations service uses the location of the a nearby wifi router to locate te iPod. However, not all routers are in Apple's database and as of yet nobody here knows of a way to add routers to the database.

You are prevented from Airplay mirroring certain things like DVD content as the material is usually protected so you get a checkerboard type display. I think there is a theoretical risk that the Airplay stream could be intercepted and the protected video copied, albeitin lower quality.
Apple may be being cautious or are required to do so with the DVD player app by movie studios/licensing authorities. It makes no sense to the average consumer who is just trying to send their purchased DVD to the TV via the computer and AppleTV.
Playback in something like VLC should work - not tried it myself but others have commented it doesn't have the restriction.

Why is my Canon printer only printing faded black and only from Apple applications?

MacBook running 10.6.1; Safari 5.1.9; TextEdit 1.6; Preview 5.0.3. Canon Pixma MP470.
Updated the Canon, replaced the 2 ink cartridges.
Printed from Firefox and Word. No problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for responding. I fell into the fix, though the resolve is a little quizzical. This MacBook travels to home and work, different printers at each. In the Print dialog box both printers are offered, though choosing the Canon at home was a problem; choosing the HP at work was not.
Went to System Preferences>Print & Scan and reordered the list of printers making the Canon first and the HP second. The list will have to be reordered back at work.
I still don't get why this only affected Apple applications but got the problem fixed.

Why is that some of the web safe fonts from typekit simply will not work in Muse?

I don't get it. I am frustrated as it seems there are a NUMBER of fonts that I just grabbed from typekit that just don't work. Running latest OS on a Mac btw.
I also don't understand why a font like Myriad Pro (which I know is a web safe font) is not included in typekit? If you check out the typekit website, they have myriad pro. However, it's not available in Muse, yet it IS available in AI. Very weird!

I believe that it is only select Typekit fonts that have been allocated to be used in Muse - not all of them. If you browse the available Typekit fonts THOUGH Muse, you can see what's available to use.
Sorry, but you might be misinformed; Myriad Pro is not a web safe font, the fact that it's in AI, ID etc is because it's common and usually bundled with a lot of Adobe software, but not " web safe". Just a common face.

Why has my safari icon disappeared from the applications bar after the recent software update?

Everything was working perfectly until I uploaded the most recent software update. When I restarted my laptop I found that the Safari icon had disappeared from my applications bar. If I go to my 'recent places' and click on Safari it then reappears but only until I close the laptop down as the next time I start it up, it's nowhere to be seen. Can anyone help?

by applications bar you mean "dock"? After you click on recent places and start safari it will reappear in the dock and at this point you will want to control + click (right click) on the SAFARI icon and hover to options, make sure that "KEEP IN DOCK" has a check mark next to it. If it does not, click that option. Now it will keep the Safari Icon in your dock.

Loading web pages from an application

Hi All
I've tried hunting on this web site for info about how to show an html page from an application. Unfortunatley I couldnt find anything.
So how do I fire up a web browser, and load in a specified web page?
I can get a URL pointing to a file on my system ie File:c:/MyDoc/Help.htm, but am unsure what I need to do next.
Any advice welcome.

Extract font from SWF

Is there any way to extract a font from an SWF? I don't need
to use the font for anything besides other Flash/SWF files, so
exporting to a system font file is not needed. I just need to be
able to re-use a font that is on SWF in other SWFs, when the font
is not installed on my system.
Why I need to do this is a very unique situation. As I said I
have an SWF that contains a font I need. This SWF is generated by a
3rd party application, so there's actually no FLA involved. This
particular font that is being embedded is actually derived from a
system font, but it is a new font. Specifically, it is modifying a
font on my machine to be super/subscripted, and embedding it as a
seperate font. I need that superscript/subscript modified font.

Thanks, the problem is I don't have the ability to set up
shared assets from the source app. There's actually no FLA involved
here, it's generated by a third part application.

Free mathematic fonts? That's sounds like just what I need...
I haven't found anything, though, can you tell me more? One issue
is that I can't really use Unicode characters(Microsoft San Serif
provides 1-0 and some other characters in sub/sup), because
otherwise it doesn't work cross platform in HTML
text(TextField.htmlText).
My end goal is to be able to take a string from an XML node
like this:
E=mc2
And have it work in a dynamic textfield. To do this, the best
solution I can think of is to make a sub/sup font face, and simply
find and replace and tags with 
tags, so the above would become:
E=-mc2
Kind of ugly in the sense that you have to embed multiple
font faces just to get sub/sup abilities, but nothing else I've
tried has made me happy either. This seems like the least evil I
can find thus far, untill the SWF format/Player supports dynamic
sub/sup.
