Why is FrameMaker 12 giving error message "FrameMaker has encountered a serious error?"

Hi All,
I have a couple people that are experiencing the exact same thing. They are all using FrameMaker 12 Structured mode, and when they are trying to open up certain files, this is what they experience.
I have un-installed and re-installed the software and still no luck. I have already sent an email to [email protected], but I was just going to post on the forum to see if anyone else has ever had this happen to them. They can also open up some files, but the one's that they are needing to open up aren't working. Any help is appreciated.

That pretty much points the finger at the file(s) as being somehow corrupt. If you can just open the file and it doesn't crash before working on it, then you should immediately try saving as MIF. If this works, then opening the MIF and re-saving as the binary .fm might just clean out the corruption.
As a last resort, you could try using FM's Heroic Open.
1. Open/create a blank FM document (File > New > Document).
2. Use the <esc> o H shortcut ( it's the lowercase "O") - press the keys in sequence, not simultaneously.
3. Select the bad file from the browser and keep your fingers crossed.

I keep getting an Internal error "Framemaker has dectected a serious problem and must quit." Can someone tell me what I need to do to correct this?

I get error messages about font not being available and about links failing to update but I don't think either of these should cause the "serious problem" Framemaker is detecting. We just subscribed to Framemaker less than one month ago. I wouldn't think I'd be behind on updates but when I tried to update I encountered another problem with Adobe Application Manager. I'm going to have an IT person at our company look into this. Hopefully, he'll have better luck than I'm having. If you have any helpful information to pass along, I'd still like to hear it. I will pass it along to our IT person. If not, thank you for your help. I appreciate it!

FDK and FM 8: Internal Error: 8004, 6343724, 8484240, 0. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem a

I use FDK9 and FrameMaker 8. I used Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition and Microsoft SDKs to compiled sample FDK hello.c program, C:\Program Files\Adobe\FDK9\samples\hello. It compliled just fine without error or warning message. I registered the hello.dll to fminit directory and added the line: "hello=Standard, Greets user at startup,fminit\hello.dll, all" to maker.ini. When I brought up FrameMaker I got error message:
Internal Error: 8004, 6343724, 8484240, 0. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.
A file named fminit\hello.dll has been generated which contains
information that may help Frame development improve the product for future releases.

I think you should be OK with the later compiler. I don't know what is causing the crash, though. Perhaps you might consider setting up a new workspace according to the instructions in the Windows guide, then add hello.c to it, and see what happens. That would at least let you know if there is a compatibility problem with the sample, or if your current setup will simply not allow FDK9 development for FM8.
By the way, there is a Yahoo group dedicated to FDK development. If you don't get an answer here, consider posting there. Some of the users on that list are considerably smarter than me about these types of issues.

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. Itunes causes a "itunes has encountered a serious error and needs to close"

Ok everytime i try to open up itunes it immediatly opens up a window that says itunes has encountered a serious error and needs to close....i send the error report microsoft directs me to check out that apple page to uninstall qt and then repair...i have tried everything that i read in these forums, even the one where it says to go into dos mode(F8 to get to safe mode) and delete the files that have a random 4 or 6 letter file ending in .exe
i am at my whits end here please help i need my itunes

Hi- I am having an issue- When I turn my computer on- I get the message "Bridge has encountered a problem & is unable to read the cache- try purging central cache in cache preferences to correct situation" When I open Photoshop CS5 it say "repousse file is bad or corrupt" "the material file is bad or corrupt" Also all of my actions have disappeared - even the default actions... HELP because as of now, no one has any answers except to buy a support contract....
I use windows & the problem is with photoshop cs5

First Aid is to reset preferences. Hold down the Ctrl key and Start Bridge. You will get a reset window with 3 options. You can choose all 3.
If you moved files or used a registry cleaner you many have lost links. In that case the Cleaner Tool and reinstall is recommended.

Why this query is giving error in report

I have a simple query ...
SELECT &P_FLEXDATA C_FLEXDATA,
CHART_OF_ACCOUNTS_ID C_NUM
FROM GL_CODE_COMBINATIONS
It is running fine in SQL prompt but when I create it as a report query then it is giving error: ORA-00904 "C_FLEXDATA": invalid identifier
Please advise ....

You are using a "lexical" reference in the SQL query (&P_FLEXDATA).
You must set a default value for P_FLEXDATA in order the SQL Query to be parsed successfuly

Continual Error message: iTunes has encountered a problem

New iPad (first generation) owner here. Also have laptop with Windows XP. On it, everytime I open iTunes I get an error messsage reading 'iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. For more information about this error click here.' There's a 'Debug' box and a 'Close' box.
Clicking on the 'click here' link brings up a new error message that reads "Error signature AppName: itunes.exe AppVer:10.4.080 ModName: corefoundation.dll ModVer:1.63014.0 Offest: 0004bd33. A line below that reads 'To view technical information about the error click here. There is a 'Close' button after that.
If you click that 'click here' link you get line after line of computese. After that comes to an end it says 'The following files will be included in this error report: C:/DOCUME~1/Cheryl/LOCALS~1/Temp/7ffe_appcompat.txt and there's a final 'Close' button.
I've tried every button a number of times.
I've clicked 'Debug' - the computer 'thinks' a moment but nothing happens. I've Closed and reopened. Same song, 2nd verse.
I updated iTunes. No change. I uninstalled iTunes and reloaded it. Same thing happens.
I can't access iTunes or any part of it. I even had to google iTunes Help to locate this site.
I can access iTunes on my iPad, but am unable to sync my iPad and Laptop.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Now head into your Add or Remove programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click Repair.
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. Although the procedure is for Vista and 7, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things):

I got a new PC laptop, retrieved all old HD contents from my external HD, installed LR 5.6 (5.4 on previous PC) and when I tried to open up my old Lightroom catalog it has an error saying "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. You will not be able to make adjustments to this photo". I tried to open the catalog straight from my external HD with the same error message. I've read about four billion forum threads to try to figure it out- files do not seem to be missing as most threads indicate. The other threads suggest there is a corruption with the file, but I don't THINK that is the case. Are there any other suggestions? If the file is corrupted, how do I find out for sure? Have I lost all my edits??

Okay. It seems unlikely to be the class of similar problems caused by various Symantec programs blocking installs.
It's a bit of a mystery in the first place why the 16 bit DOS subsystem is running in this context. (The iTunes installer is 32-bit on XP machines.)
Just in case it's a damaged NTVDM, perhaps try an sfc /scannow:

Does that clear up the error?
