Why is ical adding multiple alerts to my recurring events?

I have searched for this issue in the support topics but can only find very old threads with links to apps that do not work.  My recurring events in ical are all of a sudden getting many many alerts added to them.  Every once in while I try deleting the event and creating a new one, or deleting the extra alerts for all future events and YET THEY KEEP COMING BACK.  It's super annoying when I am getting 10 reminders for one event and have to clear each one of them.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks Malcolm.I'm afraid this issue started for me after updating to iOS6!

  • Why is ical creating unwanted alerts for all-day events?

If anyone can point to what might be going wrong here I'd be grateful. This is becoming a daily irritant. I have a number of all-day events listed for most week days in my diary which help me to know what is happening that day with childcare for my son. I don't need alerts to be reminded of these - they are just notes I put to myself in adavnce that let me know how my day is configured. Now, I sync my ical from my home imac to my work imac, my macbook, my iphone and my ipad. On none of these devices do I have default alerts set. I never set any alerts for any of these 'events'. But then, at 9am the day before each one I get an alert. In fact, I get a 9am alert for any all-day event, regardless of whether I set an alert for then, or at all. As I say, I've checked all devices and the default alert a=on all is set to 'none'. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I stop it?

  • ICal automatic multiple alerts?

    Hello,
I have an important appointment in 57 days.  I'd like to be reminded by iCal with an alert, 2 weeks, 1 week, 2 days, and 2 hours before that appointment.
I know I can manually add all these alerts when recording the event in iCal.   Or: I can set an alert 2 weeks before. When that alert appears, I can modify the entry to set it to "2 days before" and so on.
Is there an automatic --or at least easier-- way of arranging this kind of progression?
    TIA

    Hi Gaurav,
You can personalize the way in which you receive alerts.
Simply choose Personalization to make individual settings for your alert inbox. You can determine a substitute who will then receive the alerts. In addition, you can choose whether alerts are sent to you time-independently or time-dependently. The default setting is that alerts are sent time-independently to your alert inbox and via e-mail when they occur. You can additionally select the communication methods FAX and SMS for time-independent alert notification.
If you want to receive alerts only on certain days for a certain time, simply select the option for time-dependent sending of alerts and choose Create to create a new table entry. You can then choose the corresponding factory calendar, the time interval, and communication channel. Alerts that arise during this time frame will be sent in any case to your alert inbox. If you have also selected other communication channels, the alerts are additionally sent to you using these other channels.
This above text is from SAP help, do you think by changing anything in personnalisation i can stop multiple alerts. I have some issue with Personalisation link so was wondering would be worth to get tht personalisation issue resolved.

  • HT2513 Can the iCal app for iPad offer custom recurring events?

Is it possible to change settings in the iCal app for iPad to allow for the recurring events to be more than just daily, weekly, monthly? I have several events that take place on 2nd Fridays for example.

No. What you see is what you get in the Calendar app with regard to the settings for recurring events. There are other calendar apps available in the App Store and maybe one of those will better suit your needs.
You can use Google to search for more or look in the App Store and do a search, but here is a start.

  • Why does iCal crash every time I add an event?

It seems that everytime I add an item to iCal and then try to set the time iCal crashes. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hey felocarp,
I'd take a look at the following article - it'll go over everal solutions you can try if any application (including iCal) is quitting unexpectedly:
OS X Mountain Lion: If an app quits unexpectedly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH10928
Reopen the app by clicking Reopen in the dialog that appears when the app quits.
Restart your Mac by choosing Apple menu > Restart.
Read the app’s documentation to check if it’s compatible with your version of OS X.
Open another document in the app. There may be a problem with the document you were trying to open.
Check to see if any updates to your software are available by choosing Apple menu > Software Update. For apps not made by Apple, look for updates on the manufacturer’s website.
Disconnect any peripheral devices you just connected (for example, a printer). They may not be compatible with your version of OS X. If disconnecting the device solves your problem, contact its manufacturer.
Uninstall any plug-ins or enhancements from other manufacturers for the app.If you recently updated the app or OS X, a plug-in or enhancement you previously installed may no longer be compatible.
Restart your Mac in safe mode. Start up in safe mode
Restart the computer into Apple Hardware Test. Apple Hardware Test can tell you if hardware you installed, such as additional memory, is incompatible, improperly installed, or defective. If you can’t find Apple Hardware Test, take your computer to an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Use Apple Hardware Test
Use Disk Utility to repair your computer’s internal disk.
    Have a good one,
    David

  • Can't enter multiple alerts in iCal

I can no longer program multiple alerts. After entering the first one, no popup appears to enable setting a second. This feature worked a week ago. Any ideas?
    Re desktop version 5.0.2 (1571)

    Greetings,
What changed in the last week?  Did you add a new calendar server (iCloud / Google / Yahoo etc.) or make other changes to the computer?
    Try:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • Why is the calendar adding extra alerts?

I just got my first Iphone and the calendar is adding extra alerts. I'm using a Google calendar which I have used for years with WebOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. This only started happening when I switched to the Iphone, so I'm certain that it's the Iphone causing it.
If I create an event on the Iphone, it will add the extra alert straight after. I literally just created an event with one alert at the time of the event. Straight after creating it I checked the event details and there is a second alert 1 hour before.
If I create an event on www.google.com/calendar, it will add the extra alert after the Iphone has synchronised the calendar. Before that synchronisation the event alerts are unchanged.
Most of the time it's adding a second alert 1 hour before the event time, although I have one instance where it also added a third alert 50.9 minutes before the event time.

I don't find it hard to use at all.

  • Applescript - Adding "if" condition ICal  on/off alerts

I'm using this script to turn off my ICal alerts while running scripts that conflict with schudule tasks.
I have serveral scripts that need to run throughout the day useing this process and some that need ICal alert on as well.
Is there a way to have this script not toggle on/off?  Currently, if I run another script while the ICal alert is off it will toggle ICal alerts to an "on" state.
Maybe an "if" statement - if "off" then quit,  --------------------------For those scripts which require ICal alerts to remain off.
And a "if" statement - if "off" then click the menu item to it's "on" state.  --For those scripts that require iCal alerts to be on.
I don't want it to be a dialog task. These scripts need to run in the background.
This is the script I'm currently using:
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
--click menu item "Preferences…" of menu 1 of menu bar item "iCal" of menu bar 1
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
--click button " Advanced " of tool bar 1 of window 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
--click checkbox "Turn off all alarms" of window 1
click checkbox 1 of window 1
--click menu item "Close" of menu 1 of menu bar item "File" of menu bar 1
click menu item 10 of menu 1 of menu bar item 3 of menu bar 1
    end tell
    tell application "iCal" to quit
Any help or advice would be greatly appriciated.

Well.....  I got a script to work after trying for several days.   I'm not good at writing scripts so I'm sure there is a better way of writing them.  At least a cleaner way....
I found a script to base mine off of at:
    http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=30031
Towards the bottom of that website there is a script which is half in German.
    Here is that script::
    tell application "iCal" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
    end tell
    tell me to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
set check to value of checkbox 1 of window 1
    end tell
    if check = 0 then
display dialog "Erinnerungen sind AKTIV!" buttons ["Abbrechen", "Deaktivieren"] default button "Deaktivieren"
if button returned of result is "Abbrechen" then
           tell application "iCal" to quit
       else
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click checkbox 1 of window 1
           end tell
           tell application "iCal" to quit
       end if
    else
display dialog "Erinnerungen sind NICHT aktiv!" buttons ["Abbrechen", "Wieder aktivieren"] default button "Wieder aktivieren"
if button returned of result is "Abbrechen" then
           tell application "iCal" to quit
       else
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click checkbox 1 of window 1
           end tell
           tell application "iCal" to quit
       end if
    end if
So I tested the script to see if it would work...   And it does...  The only thing is it had a dialog function which I don't want to use....
I came out with two scripts   One to activate and one to disable ICal alarms.
    Here they are.........
    ---------ICal Alarm Activate Script---------------
    tell application "iCal" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
    end tell
    tell me to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
set check to value of checkbox 1 of window 1
    end tell
    if check = 0 then
              tell application "iCal" to quit
    else
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
set check to value of checkbox 1 of window 1
              end tell
              if check = 1 then
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click checkbox 1 of window 1
                        end tell
                        tell application "iCal" to quit
              end if
    end if
    ---------ICal Alarm Activate Disable --------------
    tell application "iCal" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click menu item 3 of menu 1 of menu bar item 2 of menu bar 1
click button 3 of tool bar 1 of window 1
    end tell
    tell me to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
set check to value of checkbox 1 of window 1
    end tell
    if check = 1 then
              tell application "iCal" to quit
    else
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
set check to value of checkbox 1 of window 1
              end tell
              if check = 0 then
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
click checkbox 1 of window 1
                        end tell
                        tell application "iCal" to quit
              end if
    end if
Like I mentioned above, I'm very, very green in applescript writing.  I'm sure my scripts looks weird but they works.   Feel free to clean them up for me.....
Hope thiis helps others who need a way to control ICal Alarms.

  • ICal adding alert for 35791394 minutes after events

Since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, I'm now getting random Alerts set for 35791394 minutes after the event (between one to three alerts with the same number of minutes for each event). I'm syncing with iCloud to an iPhone 4S and iPad (3), both with most recent iOS. All calendars are set to default with None for Alerts (on all devices).

I've been following this - and have just been holding off contacting Apple, since it seems there's no fix yet from what some of you have gone through - But I've done a few tests tonight and can replicate the alert - here's what I found - maybe this can shed some light on the bug for some Apple tech:
Make event in Calendar - no alert
Open it on iPhone - shows alert at time of event
Edit it on iPhone - now in Calendar it shows Alert - Message 35791394 minutes after.
Edit on Calendar to set Alert to NONE,
iPhone still shows Alert at Time of Event
Edit iPhone to remove Alert to NONE
Calendar still shows NONE (as before)
Edit iPhone timing of event, still alert None
    Calendar still shows NONE
    ---------NEXT-------
Make event in Calendar - no alert
iPhone shows Alert at Time of Event
Remove alert, set to None AND edit time of event on iPhone
    Calendar still shows no alert.
-----So it seems to me that an event created first on Calendar with no alert - shows up on iPhone with Alert at Time of Event - then if you edit it on iPhone - it goes back to Calendar with the Alert -Message 35791394 minutes after.
But... if you FIRST remove the Alert on the iPhone before editing the time of event - it doesn't create an alert back in Calendar.

  • Syncing ical creates multiple entries for same event

I'm sure this is common. I cal sync creates multiple enties for the same event. Any way to work around this?
Also, duplicate calendars are on the Iphone (2 for inbox)  can one be deleted?

I think I know what can help. I also support Mac users in a mixed environment, and find that being able to access a Windows machine to test settings for my iCal users is very very helpful. If you do not have one, I could also fix this one by adding the user's account to my one Mac that runs Entourage.
On a PC: set up one of the problem accounts in Outlook, then go to Tools->Options & click on the Delegates tab. Click on a Delegate name (if they all have the same permission level, you can select all), then click the Permissions button. If the delegate have "Editor" permissions, there will be a little checked box that sends the delegate copies of all those meetings. De-select it.
Lemme know if you want Entourage instructions or if that does it for you.
The real question, of course, is why are there so many Exchange functions that iCal can't touch. Grrrr....

  • How do I set up multiple alerts for one event?

So, I'm currently using MS Exchange to sync my google calendar with my iphone5, and almost everything's working pretty nicely, events would get pushed to my phone right away as I put it on my computer. But the thing is, my phone will only alert me for the earliest alert if I had multiple alerts set up for one event on google calendar. How can I fix it? Any advice would be appreciated!

I have a similar issue with a slight twist.
I have 'My Card' setup properly, however, I do have 5 email addresses that I use and these are listed on 'My Card'.  When I select the option to add an email alert on a calendar event, the app is picking up two addresses from the set of 5 and makes me pick one.
I would like to select one of the other addresses to be the default for sending out the alerts.  Is there a way to do that.  If it is helpful, the app is picking up 2 of the 'Work' email addresses.  I don't know if the home vs work designation would make a difference.
Note: I am looking for a solution to pick one a specific address from the contact card to send out the alert email.  I am NOT looking to have a discussion as to why I have 5 addresses.
    Thanks

  • Multiple alerts for the same Message ID

    Hi
I have configured outbound ftp adapter. I have configured alerts inorder to capture any error in the adapter engine.
Now,alert is triggered showing an error in the ftp adapter ( say incorrect ftp details). But i get multiple alerts for the same message ID several times. I have also set the parameter Max No od Delvs to 1 in the ALRTCATDEF transaction.
I keep getting the same alert number of times a day. How can i restrict the number of alerts to 1 for 1 message ID.
    Regards,
    Vani

    Hello Andreas,
    Thanks for your reply.
In my scenario i would need an alert per Message. That is the reason why I have not checked the option "Supress Multiple Alerts" since it would allow only alert per rule.
Is there is any way we can get one alert per message.
Also, after correcting the eror in the file adapter will the file which was not placed due to error in the adapter be placed automatically. I wanted to know what would happen to the lost file or unprocessed file since it dint reach the destination due to error.

  • Problem - Alerts on iPhone when event/reminder is created in iCal

    Preamble:
MBP 2011 (early) on latest update of Lion
Subscription to iCloud (recently updated from MobileMe)
    iPhone4 iOS5
    Here's the scenario:
I create an event or reminder in iCal (on MBP) and set the alert settings to 'message' or 'message with sound' and select an appropriate date and time. The 'calendar' is set to iCloud>Home (in order to ensure it syncs with iPhone). Date and time come along and, so long as the MBP is turned on, the alert pops up on the screen - no problem.
Go over to iPhone - no alert pops up at the appropriate time. Open Cal and/or Reminders and there the event is, event also appears in the Notification Centre.
    Problem:
Why does the iPhone not alert me of events that are generated in this way? If I create the event on the iPhone itself then it does alert me with no problem.
    Workaround:
Set the original event alert to email and you get an email on the iPhone alerting you - however this is a little clunky and not the slick workflow that one might expect from apple.
    Question:
Is there a solution to this?
P.S. Apologies if this is a double post, I have hunted round for an answer and there are a few threads of this nature but none of them were quite on the money.

i also should've mentioned that my calendars don't show in Mobile Me either. The headings do but for some reason there are no entries visible.

  • Adding multiple components in same direction ?

    Hi,
I'm adding multiple child panels to a single parent panel. One of such child panel is "xPanel" as shown below. The problem is that all the 4 labels overlap each other i.e. main Panel only displays "11111" i.e the last JLabel added. I know that specifying direction (e.g BorderLayout.NORTH etc) will fix the overlap problem but I want all the lables in a single row i.e. XXXXX 00000 YYYYY 11111 ..... any suggestions how to fix this ?
              JPanel xPanel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout());
              xPanel .add(new JLabel("XXXXX:"));
              xPanel .add(new JLabel("00000"));
              xPanel .add(new JLabel("YYYYY:"));
              xPanel .add(new JLabel("11111"));
              mParentPanel.AddPanel(xPanel , BorderLayout.NORTH);

The default layout for a JPanel is the FlowLayout. Why did you change it do a BorderLayout?
I suggest you read this section from the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/visual.html]Using Layout Managers so you understand how they work.

  • Why do i have 2 entries for the same event in iCal?

I have just upgraded to OS Lion, purchased an iPhone 4S and have also moved to iColuds - why do I have 2 entries for all my events in iCal?

You can just delete the ones you don't want from the document Library. Be careful though, that you do not delete the symbol(s) that are being used on the canvas.
It's hard to say how you got so many duplicates in the first place without knowing your workflow.
My guess is that you created a new symbol every time you added something to the canvas, but that is only a guess.
