Why is iCloud is not listed in my System Preferences?

Apple instructions for setting up iCloud direct me to access it in my Systems Preferences under Internet and Wireless, but it isn't listed there.

Because your OSX version is 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and iCloud needs at least 10.7.5 Lion (or later of course).

how do I set up cloud on my mac when the cloud option is not listed in my system preferences?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If iCloud isn't in system preferences you will need to update your operating system.
iCloud is part of iOS 10.7.2 or better.

  • I am trying to set up icoud on my macbook pro. But, Icloud is not shown on my System Preferences?

    Hi,
icloud does not show in my System Preferences on my macbook. I am rying to set it up. Where else should I be looking?

What OS are you running? You need to have 10.7 Lion for the basic iCloud or 10.8 Mountain Lion for the full iCloud. While 10.7.5 will allow you to access iCloud you will be limited unless you can upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion.
    This is from Apple Support:
    Minimum operating system requirements
You may also use iCloud with the following operating system versions:
    Mac
OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later*
    * Note: Although you can use OS X Lion as noted above, you will not
be able to take advantage of some iCloud features, such as Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs, Find My iPhone Lost Mode, Documents in the Cloud for iWork, and Find My Friends location-based alerts.

  • Why does Windows 7 not show up in System Preference's "Startup Disk"

Why does Windows 7, installed via Boot Camp, show up when you hold down the option key when booting but the drive does not show up in System Preferences under the Startup Disk icon.
As an aside Windows 7 runs perfectly on my MacBook.
    - Mike

Now I found I'm not alone. My situation is similar but not exactly the same.
I recently switched from the white MacBook to latest mac mini, tried installing XP Pro not successful for some reasons then tried Win7 (build 7000). On my old macbook this worked perfectly.
Got win7 updated and picked win7 as startup disk in windows, used that for few days without going back to leopard. On just one occasion I booted with 'alt' key pressed (using a PC keyboard) I have choices of drives so I thought everything was fine. As soon as I booted into leopard I found no win7 partition in system>preference>startup disk, OMG I couldn't boot back to win7 since then. From that point onwards the 'alt' key didn't work for me. Every time only leopard can be booted.
    What can I do now?
Why it was OK in macbook but didn't work on mini? Is it worth investing on a mac external keyboard just to get the 'option' key?

  • I have iCloud on my MacBook Air.  Trying to set up icloud on another device- MacBook Pro.  I have OSx version 10.5.8 on the Pro.   The iCloud does not appear on my system preference/ Internet

How do I get the iCloud icon to appear in my System Preference/Internet & Wireless section to turn it on.  Again I only have Mobile Me icon.  When I check for updating of software it says there are no updates.  I currently have OS X Version 10.5.8 on the MacBook Pro that needs to have iCloud.

iCloud requires OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  If you’re running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to upgrade to either Lion higher in order to set up iCloud on your Mac.  First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
Mavericks requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
If you can run Mavericks, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion or Mountain Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

  • Icloud is not showing up in system preferences on my imac

I am working on OSX 10.68 and I have just purchased icloud. For some reason, it isn't showing up in my system preferences. Anyone?

iCloud is not supported using 10.6.8, you must upgrade your version of OSX to (minimum of 10.7.2), upgrading to the current version (if your Mac will support it) is preferable (10.8.3)
iCloud is a free service, how did you manage to pay for it?

  • ICloud Mail not setting up via System Preferences

I mistakenly deleted my iCloud mailbox from Mac Mail (was trying to delete another Exchange one I was having problems with) and now when I go into System Preferences and re-tick the Mail option within the iCloud Preference Pane I get the following:
iCloud Mail couldn't be enabled from the iCloud Preference Pane.
Open Mail and add your iCloud account from Mail preferences.
I have multiple folders within this account however and when I re-add through Mail they do not show up in the sidebar like they would have when it was automatically set up through main System Preferences. I would also prefer it to be done this way as that's how it's been designed and the fact it's not allowing me to do it almost suggests an issue.
Can anyone help? I've deleted my Mail preference files but it doesn't seem to have fixed anything.

Is it an @me or @icloud.com address you've setup manually in your mail.app?  The account you've added should be the one that was setup when you checked the 'mail' option in the icloud preferences for the first time.  Unless you're a former MobileMe user, then it'll be that @me.com address.
For a test, I removed my icloud email (through sys pref >> icloud) and added it manually using the icloud email settings ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 ).  My user created test mailbox was returned.
    ---- edit
I just messed with it a bit more, and did find an instance where my user created mailbox did not return.  Quitting mail.app and reopening fixed it, though.  Make sure you to quit it, and not just click the red x.

  • IPhone not listed under iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices

Why is my iPhone not listed under iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices ?

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Since you are using a Windows based computer, could be anti virus software preventing iTunes from "seeing" the iPhone.

You can also try turning off the Firewall.

  • Why are the iPhotos not listed in the finder?

why are the iPhotos not listed in the finder?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

You would have to ask Apple to get a "real" answer. This is a peer-to-peer user foum and anything we say would be pure speculation.

  • HT1665 Why are my contacts not listed ?  They used to be there.

Why are my contacts not listed?  They used to be there.

I had the same thing happen to me.  It's a bug in iPhoto 9.4.2.
The first time you run iPhoto after upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2, it "updates the iPhoto library".  This sometimes tickles a bug where iTunes can see all your iPhoto albums, but iTunes thinks they are empty.  Since iTunes thinks all your albums are empty, it dutifully deletes any photos from your synced iOS devices.
It's easy to tell if this is the problem you are seeing.  Open iTunes and go to the photos sync panel for one of your iOS devices.  If you have multiple albums checked, but iTunes shows a total of 0 photos, then you have the problem.
I spent an hour with an Apple Genius.  he couldn't find any mention of this problem in their internal support system.  His recomendation was to reinstall the operating the system.  I suspect that this won't solve it.
The only solution I have found is to restore iPhoto 9.4.1 and the corresponding iPhoto library from your backups.
I would refrain from upgrading to iPhoto 9.4.2 until Apple has a fix for this issue.

  • Why is my SATA Raptor listed in my system tray?

Can anyone explain to me why my SATA Raptor is listed in my system tray along with my external Maxtor OneTouch USB HDD? It's a little icon that says "safely remove hardware" if I hold my cursor over it. If I click on it it lists my SATA Raptor and my OneTouch. I know why my OneTouch is there but why is my primary HDD there? Is this normal? Did I not install something I should have or maybe installed the Raptor wrong? It's my only HDD and I have it plugged into SATA 1.
    Thanks,

Could also be that SATA HD's are hot-swappable.
    Steve
    From WD:
I want to be able to connect or remove a drive without turning off the system. Is it safe to hot-plug WD serial ATA drives?
Serial ATA supports hot-plugging (also known as "hot-swapping"). This is the ability to swap out a failed hard drive without having to power down the system or reboot. This capability contributes to both data availability and serviceability without any associated downtime.
The Serial ATA 1.0 specification requires staggered pins for both the hard drive and drive receptacles. Staggered pins mate the power signals in the appropriate sequences required for powering up the hot-plugged device. These pins are also specified to handle in excess of the maximum allowed inrush current that occurs during drive insertion. SATA-compliant devices thus need no further modification to be hot-pluggable and provide the necessary building blocks for a robust hot-plug solution, which typically includes:
Device detection even with power downed receptacles (typical of server applications)
Pre-charging resistors to passively limit inrush current during drive insertion
Hot-plug controllers to actively limit inrush current during drive insertion

    Hi Experts,

Please suggest how to resolve this issue.

    Hi Venu,
i have done SLD and CPA cache refresh, restarted the QA system but still unable to resolve the issue.
Try if "Compare from SLD" works? This can be accessed by going to ID -> double-click business system -> communication component -> adapter specific identifiers
