Why is iDisk icon still appearing on my desktop?

Running Mountain Lion on my two computers.  This doesn't happen on my MBA.  However, on the iMac, the iDisk icon (specifically now a white disk image) keeps appearing on my desktop.
The issue is not in settings afaik because there is no iDisk setting there any more (or MobileMe either).
I don't think any of my programmes are using or trying to use MobileMe - but any pointers to obvious likely malcreants would be welcomed.
Does anyone have any idea how to stop this?  (I used iDisk a lot, miss it and there is some irony in this)
Thanks
PS I did search for similar posts and couldn't find any - but it was a bit of a cursory effort.

No.  It isn't.  Thanks - but even I am not that inept on my Macs.
It reappears whenever I log in, sometimes after a decent delay to lull me into believing I have 'sorted' it.
It isn't a problem, it is just irritating.  See above.  The irony.

The Color Sync Utility is part of OSX and usually resides in the Application/Utilities folder.
Don't know how it appeared on your desktop.
But it is no malware, spyware or the like but as said part of OSX.

  • IDisk icon suddenly appearing on desktop

    Something annoying happened.
I like to keep my desktop clean.
Then I had some friends over, they were playing with the iMac, and now the iDisk icon is randomly appearing during use; usually when i explore the Finder folder.
I eject it, and when I reboot, its not there...but once I start using the machine, it appears on the desktop out of nowhere.
It doesn't say iDisk though...it just has the same icon, but says my username (I guess, the same as my .mac account?)
why did it suddenly start appearing like that, and how can i get rid of it for good??
    Thanks!

Look under Finder preferences, General tab -> "Show these items on the Desktop." Deselect "Connected servers."

  • Java 7u13 win8 shortcut icons still appear to be broken

As Woodiw1563768 pointed out in July of 2012, the Java Web Start (JAWS) desktop shortcut icon on Windows 8 appear to be broken[0]. When you provide a custom icon the shortcut appears as a blank paper instead of as your icon or the default web start icon. This is still happening in February of 2013.
Windows 8 is "officially supported with the release of Java 7 Update 10" [1] and bug 2230144 claims this issue should be fixed as of Java 7 Update 12 (7u12) [2], but when I tested with the latest version from java.com, 1.7.0_13 (7u13) my icons are still broken for applications which work with the same version of Java on earlier versions of Windows. Can anyone else confirm this? It would be handy to have a public JNLP file that normally installs icons that we can all test against. The one in the bug report appears to be missing or only internal.
As noted in bug 7182795 [3], the issue appears to be some Windows security conflict with the use of LocalLow as the cache directory where JAWS icons are stored.
I am having trouble figuring out how to comment on bug 2230144 to indicate that it still appears to be broken.
Is there any way to work around this bug? (Besides not using web start or not relying on the desktop shortcuts.)
I have tested setting the icon path manually, but every time the JNLP file is updated, and sometimes on every launch, the shortcut is deleted and re-created, reverting back to the broken icon.

  • Why do deleted files still appear in Finder

Even after i move the files to Trash and empty the trash, the files still appear in finder. If I click on them I get some message indicating they aren't there or can't be found, but how do i get deleted files not to appear in finder. If I deleted them to clean up my docs, i don't want them anymore. It gets harder to clean up files when i keep seeing the files i already cleaned out and put to trash.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can only delete those files which you create yourself. If these are system files you are trying to trash, you'll need special permissions to delete them. Be careful though, if you trash the wrong files, you'll leave your system nonfunctional.
My software Force Empty Trash, or the competitor, Mac OS X Cocktail both can trash files created on the boot hard drive and override the permissions that may lock those files from deletion. Cocktail can trash more than my software can. But I would only use it for trashing stuff, and not cache cleanup, nor any other tool, without consulting a Mac expert. Cache cleanup of system cache can be very dangerous, and cause applications not to be able to launch anymore, including system applications. The link to my software*:

I also have reference there to where you can get Cocktail.

Open Finder. Under Preferences > Sidebar > Devices > check Hard disks.
Navigate to your home folder from "Macintosh HD" (or whatever the name of your boot volume is) in the finder. Set the view to column.
Once you reach the path of your home folder, select it, hold down the key combination option + command and drag the alias to your desktop.

Excel on imac.  Have deleted/trashed workbooks from Finder and they have disappeared from the finder listing but the frozen icon remains on the Excel Workbook Gallery Under my Recent Workbooks.  Clicking on the empty icon which is still titled shows that they are in trash but I can't get rid of the icon which is a waste of space as well as annoying.  Help - Grandma is screaming!

  • Why [Google mail] folder still appears after updating to Mavericks in Mail

    Hello,
I have updated to Mavericks. After configuring Mail to sync with my Google account, the folder [Google Mail] is still present in Mail and the Important and Starred labes are in it. However, both subfolders, Improtant and Starred, are not syncronizing.
I have checked in Goolge and Important and Starred are set to work with IMAP. The strangest thing is that those folders should not be inside [Google Mail], but they are in my case. Does someone could help me to remove [Google Mail] folder and make Important and Starred work?
    Thanks !

Several times I've re-entered my passwords under Preferences/Internet Accounts/iCloud and it won't save since I've installed Mavericks.  Also, the iCloud icon in the left column in Preferences/Internet Accounts/iCloud is greyed out but allows me to click on it to set-up.  When I click on iCloud the password is filled out but the "Enable this account" check-box is not checked.  I check it, and all seems correct.  The icon is no longer grey, the password is correct, the "activate this account" check-box is checked.  Then, when I launch mail, notes etc. I'm still prompted to re-enter my apple ID.  The log-in loop continues.  For years my keychain has worked perfectly.  What has changed in Mavericks?

  • A Home Group icon has appeared on my desktop, why?

I noticed today that there is a new icon on my desktop, called Home Group(or something like that, because my operation system is in Dutch, so it appears as Thuisgroep). I cannot remove this icon because it's not like the other shortcuts and I don't know how it appeared there. Is it because of an update of the system? I don't use the home group for now so ... I don't really need it there. Any ideas? Thanks!
    Alexandra.

Unexpected "Homegroup" icon is a hot topic. We see that "just click on leave homegroup" solution in several dot com forums. Unfortunately, for most forum visitors there is no "leave homegroup" while there is the
desktop "Homegroup" icon. IMPORTANTLY, this Homegroup 'icon' is very misbehaved! Try and move it and it goes nowhere: it is locked in place, regardless of desktop settings, and it cannot be deleted.
Perhaps enlightening, Media Center 'black screens' and otherwise corrupts Windows 8 desktops and display adapter handles (and concurrently hangs dxdiag.exe on large-memory boards). Homegroup may simply be another NOT READY Microsoft
feature (fortunately not hawked at $10 a crack, like the MC).
Back to topic, Intel.com forum posters mostly do not see any Leave Homegroup anywhere in the simple Homegroup Open dialog, nor in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Homegroup and all its 'offshoots [sic]'.
Further enlightenment, it is a fact that a joint Pentagon-FBI task force asserts that 1 in 3 computers has been maliciously attacked by "unfriendly alien governments". Now, only yesterday we tasked a Microsoft.com driver download page that had
hoaxed over 180,000 'drivers-NOT' onto unsuspecting regional desktops. Is the same thing happening for every other Microsoft Hardware download item? Well, it could be this misbehaving Homegroup icon is an "unfriendly" feature, something one
might intelligently expect in a nation that has been constantly at war for almost 70 years. This protracted colonial war effort has now conscripted Microsoft to program murder technology (sorry if the 'm' word is overly sensitizing, but universally massive
doses of murder may explain 'unfriendly' in an 'expected' context). Tuit, these general matters may be slipping beyond the scope of civil forum enquiry.
Back to topic one last time for this post, THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED! It seems to be hooking into the edge of compounding systemic OS flaws. FYI, we haven't got past Microsoft Help Desk (usually a receptionist in a friendly Asian state) to any
Microsoft development team for over two months. So there's some hard facts for you to chew on... but what would be really nice is a Microsoft sponsored 1-2-3 method to lose the obviously corrupt icon repeatedly installed by Microsoft Windows Update on this
posting stand-alone (aka NOT groupie) machine.

  • On Lion OS why do new icons not appear on the desk top either from drag and drop of scanning onto

There seems to be an error on Lion OS which I installed recently. If you drag files onto the desk top they disappear. However, they can be found in finder. If you scan direct to the desk top they also do not appear. Is there a bug?

Sounds to me like you have a corrupt plist file.
First thing I would try would be to simply relaunch your Finder and see if that sorts your problem.
    >ForceQuit>Finder>Relaunch
If not navagate to com.apple.desktop.plist and delete.
    Finder>GO>(option Key)Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
or in Finder shortcut ( ⇧⌘G) copy and paste:
    ~/Library/Preferences/
    delete the com.apple.desktop.plist
    Relaunch your Finder again.
The deleted plist will rebuild itself to default setting after Finder relaunch
Report back on your sucess or failure.
