Why is iOS Mail adding recipients to a group email?

This is really for a friend of mine. I am well aware that iOS Mail cannot send group email. I have used/recommended 3rd party apps that successfully handle group email. Friend of mine I provide support for, just recently upgraded to iPhone 5 (not the S). He was able to upgrade free through Verizon. All his contact(s) info has remainder the same pre and post upgrade. However, when he now sends a group email, there are others that are receiving the email, that are NOT in the group list. They have contacted my friend, asking whey they are receiving the email. My friend has double-checked his contact and group list in iOS (Contacts App); and his email list on computer (Outlook). They both match, and do not contain the "added" names. I know I need to provide more info (what version of iOS, etc ...), but I don't have that info right now. But I can get it. Also, the server being used for email (outgoing and incoming) is Comcast. My friend uses a Comcast email address to send his email from/and to. Any suggestions? I would appreciate all!!
Would it have anything to do with whether he uses iCloud or iTunes to sync? Or both? I don't know why it would be a Comcast issue, because it worked just fine prior to upgrading to the iPhone 5. Thanks for all the help or point me in the right direction.

Scott,
Where did you implement this trigger? I would like to do the same thing. If I can get it to work as Portal30 I'd be happy. However, getting it to work for other users would be good to. I'll let you know if I figure it out for other users. Thanks.

    Hi Richard,
Thanks for the reply - I think I've sorted it though and there isn't actually an issue.
The whole group wasn't receiving the NDR, only the group manager which I setup a few weeks prior. This is a new feature so it complies with certain RFC's, basically the group manager will recieive the NDR to let them know there is a problem.

  • Why is Macbook Mail suddenly redownloading thousands of old emails?

    Hi everyone,
More MacMail weirdness - this time a *major* problem.
This morning, no idea why, Mac Mail has suddenly started redownloading emails I received *years* ago, including spam, trash, and junk mail. It's constantly flashing them up on my screen as "New Messages" and "Incoming Mail". On the Macbook it's putting them directly into the ALL MAIL folder, so at least my Inbox seems clear. However, on my iPad it's putting all these many thousands of emails directly in my iOS Mail inbox, making the application completely unusable - it's just flooded with constantly updating very old junk email and spam.
Nothing has changed on my settings that I know of. Obviously it's a bit of a disaster as the email app on my iPad is now unusable.
What can I do to stop this? Why is it suddenly happening?
    Cheers,
    Sarah

This is my web setting for gmail
Notice what is checked.  Now my corresponding Mac Mail sidebar
All mail is a hodpodge.  I would not turn that on or (as you can see) even let it be shown.

  • How do flagged emails in iOS Mail app sync with Gmail Starred emails?

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how the "Flagged" mailbox on iOS mail interacts with Gmail's "starred" messages.  It seems that messages that I star on Gmail and then archive do not show up in the Flagged mailbox on iOS, and that only starred messages that are still in my inbox show up.  Is that correct?  DOes anyone know a workaround to get starred and archived messages to show up?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, but the Gmail app is not the solution.  I have three different accounts, and I want to have just one folder where all my flagged/starred emails are collated. I don't want to be jumping between different accounts.

The article linked below details how to go about using Connection Doctor in Mail to determine the source of the issue.

  • Urgent-Mail is frozen on a group email-can't open, close, delete...

I am running Maverics now and when i try to send a grup email, I get a response that I cannot send a message saying "Cannot use the server smtp.gmail - The server "smtp.gmail did not recognize the following recipients" and then it lists every address that I use time and time again with no problems. In addition, I cannot dlete this page, I cannot get into my mail because this page is blocking it. I have tried rebooting, etc and it is still there, blocking my ability to use mail.
    1) How to I get rid of this?
    2) If one adress is no longer valid, mail will not send to the others and I get this frozen page again and cannot use mail. How can i send a group mail?
    Please help!!!

Ah ... yes ..... it does have a power button. Every iPad has the same sleep/power button in the same place on the iPad. I'm happy that you found a solution .... but maybe you should download this for reference.

  • I get a "Too many recipients" Thunderbird error msg when trying to send a group email -- how many is too many ? does Thunderbird have a limit?

My ISP says it doesn't impose a limit on the number of recipients in a group email, BUT still I get a Thunderbird error msg. Why?

Well, no, because 4 or 5 times a year, someone writes in with pretty much exactly your question because they too have had a message refused with the "too many recipients" warning. We suggest they use a Mailing List and all is well.

why did apple mail get much worse with lion osx?  I can't add recipients without copy and paste?

I went through updates on my three newest Macs this week.  As I stated I'm talking about iTunes 10.5.1 (42).  I am checking for updates now and I see 10.5.2 is now available.  I'll know in about 15 minutes if this issue is fixed or not.
    15 minutes later:
I must have updated this PPC G5 a day or two before iTunes 10.5.2 came out.  I was able to update to 10.5.2 (11) and this copy/paste bug is fixed.  I'm happy again.

  • Why doesn't Mail for IOS show sent items?

Why doesn't Mail for IOS show sent items with an IMAP server account. Everything else works okay but there is two sent directories and no contant in any of them ...
Trouble is the same in both iPhone4 and iPad.
Exactly the same account shows everything on my Macintosh. Including Sent items.

Using the method described above I see outgoing messages that were sent from Mail on my iMac in the correct mailboxes for 2 different MobileMe accounts.
You seem to be having and issue where your database/setting are corrupted if your messages are in the wrong outbox. I would suggest deleting the accounts from your iPad and the reconfiguring them.
While viewing an email at the top of the screen, left of the trash icon, you should se a Folder icon. Click on that to send the message to another folder. Page 59 of the manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_2_user_guide.pdf

  • TS2621 why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

  • How do I archive IMAP messages with non Gmail/iCloud account on iOS Mail.app?

This may seem like a simple question, however I don't seem to be able to work this one out for myself. I hope you guys/girls can help!
I have my IMAP email account setup on my iPhone (own domain name, DBmail IMAP mail server running on VPS). Email works great; I can send/receive, delete, move messages no problem.
When I used MobileMe, Gmail or iCloud, I was given the option to "Archive mail" in the account configuration for that mail account in Settings.app. However, with a simple IMAP account, even though I have an "Archive" folder in my IMAP mailbox, which shows up with a suitable 'Archive-like' icon in Mail.app on my iPhone, I am not given the option to "Archive mail" - i.e. move a message from 'Inbox' to 'Archive' by touching the Archive button - Instead, I just get the delete button, which just moves messages to my 'Trash' folder in my mailbox.
Up to now, I've just put this down to Mail.app on iOS lacking this functionality. After upgrading to iOS 6 this morning (which I hoped would bring this functionality) I'm starting to question whether there's a setting or a workaround that I've missed that provides this functionality. I'm not sure I understand why Mail.app on my MAC allows me to Archive mail for my simple IMAP account, but my iOS devices won't.
Does anyone know of a way to get a simple IMAP account setup in Mail.app on iOS to 'Archive' mail, as opposed to delete? Please chime in if you have any suggestions.
    Joe

I know this is old but it's google #1 for the relevant search and it took me a while
Settings -> mail, contacts, calendars -> pick the imap account -> advanced
    Move discarded emails to:
    Pick the 'archive' option
I have no idea why, must be apple logic, but with delete being the default that's all you can do, when archive is the selection it replaces the deleted button but you can hold it down to get a delete/trash option also.

  • Is there a way to show only flagged email on iOS Mail?

I use Exchange 2007 at work with Outlook 2010.  I also use my iPad to connect to my company Outlook Web Access.  On the iPad I am able to mark a message as flagged.  I use the flag on a message to indicate that there's some action that I need to take on the email.  After I skim my inbox and flag all the emails with actionable items in them I go to my smart folder in Outlook which shows only my flagged messages so I can focus on those with actionable items.  I noticed on IOS Mail there does not seem to be such smart folders and there seems to be no way to view only messages which are flagged.
Can someone please explain how to do this on the iPad.  It is very important to me.  In fact, it's so important, that I would switch to Windows Phone platform just to have this one feature.
    Thanks!

I too would love to filter my inbox down to just flagged emails - I'm on iPad 3 with latest iOS, though it seems latest OS is not the problem, but rather a simple oversight in usability, and more important productivity.
On the note of productivity, why does it take SO MANY clicks to flag an email on iPad mail? Have to hit Edit > mark the email > Mark > Flag. I count three superfluous taps there. There should be a swipe action on the left (much like the swipe and Delete on the right hand side of the email heading) for flagging. And a simple little flag symbol at the top to hit when I want to see only flagged mails. Productivity should be the name of the game.
I also realise that venting in this forum probably isn't the best place for it...

  • Mail aliases no longer usable in iOS Mail?

I just discovered that my mail aliases are no longer available in iOS Mail. It took years for them to get it working close to correctly. What happened?

With 7.1 on my iPhone 5, Organize by Thread is definitely NOT working.
On my Mac (Mavericks) a particular 'thread' of notification emails (not important what) is grouped together eactly as desired and expected since 'Organize by Conversation' is ON.
When viewed in iOS, even when 'Organize by Thread' is ON, that same 'thread' is displayed simply as separate emails rather than grouped as on the Mac. I thought this worked before, but I cannot be sure when or even if my memory is correct. However, what is clear is that a function that works on the Mac, does NOT in iOS.
However, the observant may have noticed a slightly different name in each case. It's '...by Conversation' on the Mac and '...by Thread' in iOS. I would understand them to mean the same thing, but who knows now. If they ARE the same function, why use different terms (VERY bad design practice) and if they are different, what does each actually mean?
I'm somewhat perplexed that such a fundamental failure is getting so little press. OK, it's not a major deal, but the fact Apple cannot get right something so simple...

  • Why does the Mail.app CC: field puts me first on the CC: list although I was not ?

Why does the Mail.app CC: field always rearranges the list so I am first on the CC: list although the sender intentionally did not ?
I did not see how and where to de-activate this unnecessary intrusion in the company's communication codes.
iOS on my iphone, correctly leaves my name where it is in the CC: list.

    Hi starbux48,
Yahoo! partnered with Apple to allow an IMAP style offering on the iPhone, free of charge for their users. However that feature is only available if you use the iPhone. If you want IMAP/POP access on computers then you'd need to upgrade to the Plus level account.
