Why is IP address needed for WLC WLANs?

I'm familiar with autonomous APs but am new to the WLC. Is there a way to just bridge the WLAN traffic to a VLAN? I don't understand why the WLC requires an IP address for the VLAN when the clients essentially are already on that VLAN. How is it used?
Thanks.
(Edit: fixed typo.)

the parameters specific to this VLAN. Some of the parameters include the IP Address, Netmask, Gateway, and the DHCP server IP address.
The IP address assigned to this interface acts as the DHCP relay for a client to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server. For example, when a client attempts to associate to a WLAN/SSID (see step 5 in this configuration) mapped to this dynamic interface, it performs a local subnet broadcast to identify the DHCP server. The controller sends a request to the DHCP server (or to itself if it is the DHCP server for the segment) with the IP address of this dynamic interface as relay IP to the DHCP server configured for this interface. The DHCP server assigns an IP address to the client from the configured DHCP scope.

• Why is a hub needed for ichat a/v locally?

If I'm not mistaken it's currently not possible to create a network by having all nodes except one join the other using adhoc networks and for that machine to act as a router. Why is this the case?
Why do I need a router to do ichat a/v b/w computers locally?
Back in the days a machine could emulate a basestation correct?

Hi Robert,
I have two Macs but they are through a Routing modem.
I also run Little Snitch on one of them and have not seen iChat call SNATMAP when using Bonjour.
I have the modem set to use UPnP. The Mac Firewall is not on but does list the Bonjour ports (along with AV and Jabber).
The Bonjour ports are 5298 on TCP and 5297, 5298, 5353 on UDP
It is the 5353 that most people miss as it is not one of the Bonjour /iChat presets in the Mac Firewall.
I do have my DNS servers fro my ISP listed on both the modem and my computers.

• Why is email address required for digital sig?

Hi, all. Thanks, in advance, for any help :-)
We have created an application in LiveCycle and have incorporated digital signatures to allow applicants to sign the various forms within the application, including W-4 and I-9. Here is the next question....
By default, the digital signature cannot be created without entering an email address. The problem there, is that we have some applicants who do not have an email address (yes, there are still humans on the planet who don't have an email address :-). Is there a way to get around this? That can't be the only legally valid personal information that can be used to create a digital sig? Can we offer an option if they don't have an email address? We don't want to instruct them to enter bogus information.
Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle
When Acrobat is used to create a digital certificate, it is creating a self-signed certificate that conforms to the X509 certificate standard. I haven't read the X509 spec from start to finish, but I would assue that the standard dictates that the e-mail (which is part of the "Subject" section of a certificate) is mandatory.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X.509 for a bit more info on digital certificates
As for your statement "That can't be the only legally valid personal information that can be used to create a digital sig?", I don't believe there is anything legally binding or valid about a self-signed certificate as anyone can create one with any information they want.

• Why EAI(XI) is needed

Dear all;
i have one question regarding why XI or EAI has to be used against direct development, is fundamental question, but very important..
As far as i know, advantage is below;
1. make stadard pattern to build development easily.
2. central management, centeral monitoring.
i would like to know why EAI(XI) is needed for technical key point except for above advantage ?
please do not mention SOA, BPM and SAP XI Contents, just look inside technical key point.
thank you in advance

• Since Virtru advertises full encryption with no need for recipient passwords, why doesn't Thunderbird do the same?

Virtru coming out with this "full encryption-no need for recipient to know a password", just clicks to affirm email address is correct. Works with Mozilla browser and email: Outlook, gmail, others.

Well, you have to ask Virtru why they don't provide an add-on for Thunderbird.
Thunderbird itself supports both cryptographically signing the message and encrypting it, based on the S/MIME. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Message_security this article] for details.

Does anyone have an issue like this ?

Are you sure this MAC address 58:b0:35:83:72:86 isn't some type of Apple device? Its OUI is registered to apple. How do clients get ip addresses DHCP? It appears that the IP 10.184.1.224 is statically assigned to your ap-manager and that this client 58:b0:35:83:72:86 is either getting that same IP from DHCP or the client is statically assigning it themselves.

• Why we do not need sender agreement for Mail and SOAP adapter

Hi SDN,
I know, we do not need sender agreement for IDOC ,HTTP,XI adapters. As these three adapters will run in Integration engine of the abap stack.
In our scenario if sender is other than IDOC or HTTP or XI .
By Refering Sivamni's blog.
/people/siva.maranani/blog/2005/05/25/understanding-message-flow-in-xi
message will be pickedup by communication channel with the help of sender agreement and prepare XI message header by performing cpa cache lookup. then message will go to module processor etc.
In our scenario if sender is IDOC or HTTP or XI .
As these 3 adapters are run in Integration engine.
Doubt 1:
how the integration engine will create the xi message header like sender interface sender system name etc...
Doubt 2:
I believe SOAP and mail adapter will run in adapter engine.but i came to know that we do not need sender agreement and sender comm channel for these two adapters too...then how the XI message header will create...
Please do correct me if i am wrong
and throw some light on the same..
Appreciate your help....
Regards,
Reehan.

Reehan,
Thanks for pointing me to that link. Guess I was wrong .,But,let me try to put to you why you need a sender agreement for a Sender SOAP Adapter,
1. In the sender SOAP adapter , the Sender Interface and the Interface Namespace as provided in the fields Default Interface Name and InterfaceNamespace. The Name of the Sender Service is provided in the WSDL when you ceate the WSDL in the Integration Directory. So, as all details are available in either the Sender SOAP adapter or in the WSDL url you do not need a Sender Agreement. It is not obligatory but you can always create the Sender Agreement.
2. For the mail adapter , if you select the option XIPAYLOAD, you will have the option to mention the Interface Name and Interface Namespace under XI Parameters and so in this case as once again the details provided in the sender agreement are available in the Sender Adapter itself the sender agreement is not needed for the mail adapter when you have select option XIPAYLOAD.
If you have selected XIALL then you need a sender agreement.
Regards
Bhavesh

• Change IP address for WLC

I want to change IP address for WLC in production, should I convert Access Point from LWAP to IOS then convert again to LWAP ?
Regards,

Hi Friend,
The best way is configure your controlelr as primary controller for all APs. You can do so going to wireless tab and then click on each AP detail and configure this controller as primary controller.
Also if you have WCS you can do the same in one go for all APs and after that even if controller ip address is changed they will stay join to this controller.

• WLAN override option not available for WLC 4402 - 6.0.196.

Hi All,
Its kind of weird BUT it seems that the option for WLAN override is missing.u.
I could find it on the lower version BUT not on the 6.0.196.
Please help.
Does this mean I could only set it up via the WCS and not the WLC directly.
Thank you.
Warmest Regards,
Azzafir Ariff Patel.

Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for the clarification.
