Why is iPhoto importing photos distorted as small strips?

My iPhoto has started to import my pictures as horizontal small stripes. I am transferring the photos from a camera via a media card and reader. This is the first time this has happened after several months of trouble free use. Just preceeding my most recent transfer (the problematic one), I was required to restart the computer. The computer prompted threquest for the restart. I have been able to transfer the pictures to a desktop file which displays the icons correctly but when a photo is opened - it distorts to the stripe-type distortion. Any ideas/explanations/help?

I'm afraid that tells you the problem isn't with iPhoto, but with the actual files. They are damaged themselves.
Try copy them from the card again.

    That's called Flagging. It's a way to make a quick selection of photos. For instance if you're looking for the best shot to print you might go through the photos and flag candidates for further inspection. Then clicking on the Flagged Section on the left, you can see these selected photos together. You can remove flags by clicking on them, if you mouse over a shot you'll see the option to add a flag by clicking. This can also be done in the Photos menu.

  • Iphoto imported photos from my ipad but not from the "photo stream"- why?

    I'm trying to get all files off my brother's old ipad before restoring it. I imported photos onto my computer using iphoto, but it didn't import the photos in the "photostream" on the ipad- why not? I saw that iphoto will only import photos that were taken on the ipad but I'm pretty certain these were. Thank you.

    Let me try and explain it this way.
    Say I have taken ten pictures, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
    These were imported to iPhoto and went into an event it created called June 2013 Photostream. They were all imported and showed up in order 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
    Some of them I have now tagged faces in etc.
    When I go back now and look in the June 2013 Photostream I only see 1,3,4,5,6,9,10
    But if I look in the last 12 months album I still see 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 in the right place and the right order
    Pictures 5,6,7,8 all had my face tagged and when I look in my face album 5,6,7,8 all show in the right place in the right order.
    I have got iPhoto to rebuild the library etc and they do not go back to showing in the Photostream import folder.

    everytime i connect my phone iPhoto pops up, i have imported photos from my phone since december, it is now march so when i click import all photos it starts the import but usually the loading moves it stays in the same place for an hour and the only way i can stop the import is unplugging my phone and then i find out that only 6/1474 photos have imported. I don't have time to wait i need to go on a trip !!!!

    When I import photos with iPhoto, sometimes it imports them with wrong dates, even the dates are fine on the camera. It puts dates such as 2032. Does anyone know how can I fix that. As far as I know there is no way to change dates of the photos.

    Try looking through your iPhto menus - two commands - adjust time and date and batch change time and date - asjust is used to correct incorrect dates like a comera setting -   Batch change for missing dates like with scans

    Question: If I import photos into iphoto from a different folder location, let's say My Documents sub folder called photos08, are the Photos being save twice on my hard drive taking up twice as much space?

    Answer: Yes.
    The best solution is to remove the files in your My Documents and let iPhoto manage the files.
    That said, you don’t have to:
    Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
    If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.

    To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
    This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
    If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
    If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
    Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Your choice, obviously, but best to be aware of all the ramifications. By all means post back if you require more info.

  • Iphoto-Importing Photos fault

    Hi I'm new to Mac computers and would love asistance with Iphoto. I'm currently running a Macbook Pro. I connected my camera up to the laptop three nights ago to import photos. I managed to pull of all the photos off the camera but after I disconnected the camera from the computer Iphoto continued to run with the function "Importing Photos". This function is still running and I cannot close down Iphoto nor the computer!!!!! The only way is to sleep the computer by closing the lid. I've tried to reconnect the camera and other devices howver Iphoto does not want to download any additional pics as it's currently stating "importing Photos". Does anyone have any advice??? or is there Alt Ctrl Del function on Macs that can be used????

    You can change that via the View ➙ Sort ➙ By Date ➙ Descending menu option.

    Use iMovie to convert the photo to a movie file - by
    • create a new project
    • drop photo into it
    • Export / Share it as full quality Quicktime (.mov)
    • Use this new .mov file in Your Trailer
    Yes this could have been 100% easier. But still it can be done.

    When I downloaded photos from a camera SD card using an adapter, I noticed two Albums were created in the Photo app.(Last Import & All Import). Like you stated, there is no option to delete excess photos without deleting all of them. So this is the lengthy steps I went through to delet the extra album (I hope someone comes up with a shorter process):
    1) Connect iPad into your PC (Make sure you configured to Sync with iTunes)
    2) Go to My Computer > right click and open Apple iPad > right click and open  Internal Storage > right click and  open DCIM. (This will show the photos from those to Albums only)
    3) Right click on a empty space on the desktop
    4) Click on New > Folder
    5) Go back to the DCIM files and right click on each file(one at a time) then copy and paste each file over the New Folder.
    6) Go back to the DCIM files and open each folder and right click and delete each photo.
    You will notice that all the same photos are being deleted on the Photo app simultaneously.
    7) Then drag the New Folder into you Pictures on the PC.
    8)Then open iTunes on your PC and click on the Photo tab and click Sync on the bottom right to import those photos back to your iPad.
    I hope my scenario can apply to you.

  • IPhoto imported photos from DVD only work with the DVD in the drive.

    I have several photo DVD's created on PC, jpeg format. I inserted the DVD, dragged the photos into events, they seemed to copy into iPhoto, I created albums. All seemed fine, but when I eject the DVD, my Mac can no longer find the file and I get a message that says "the volume for .......cannot be found, please insert the desk and wait for it to appear on the desktop. How do I actually copy the photos onto my computer?

    Are you running a Managed Library or a Referenced Library?
    If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
    If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.
    The message you getting sounds like you're running a REFERENCED library.

    I am putting SD card into Mac mini and it is coming up with 2 on every photo on SD card. Weirdly, one version of the photo appears to be slightly darker than the other. This is driving me mad and taking up so much space.

    is your camera set up to capture both a RAW and JPG when you snap a photo?  I don't even know if this is a feature on some cameras, but it could explain why a) there are two photos and b) why they look different.
    as a test use Image Capture to view the contents of your SD card.  If there are two versions of each picture when you look at your card in Image Capture, at least you'll know that the problem isn't with iPhoto and you can direct your attention to the camera.
