Why is iPhoto so much harder to use than Picassa?

I have been with Macs ever since they first ones appeared, grey box and all. Having being forced through circumstances in a non-Mac-friendly coutry to use, in paralell with Mac also a PC in time I downloaded Google's Picassa. I have found it easy to use. When the iPhoto came out I have tried it and found it not really user frinedly. After a 2 year gap on PC/Picassa I just bought a new MacBook Pro and transferred the Library to iPhoto. I am having a ****
of a time looking at my photos, organsing and editig them. In Picassa they are seen as chronological folders, easy to name and organise into 'events' or whateveryou fancy.
In iPhoto, when I open and go to Photos it comes with something taken months ago. No way to see the recent ones taken. When I go to Recent it  it shows me somethng from 3 weeks back. When I go to Last Month at least I can see some recent ones.
Is there a way of editing iPhoto to let you see Day, Week, Month, Year etc at a glance. It is **** at the moment and unless I find a way I will switch back to Picassa. I love Macs and would never use PC in my life given a choice but am finding, trying to learn the Lion, that Apple has been has either lost its touch, has been compromising to please the Windows community or has been infested by PC-thinking nerds, down there in California... Can anyone comment and help how to make my iPhoto easy to use? Is there a tutorial so I could evaluate its potential before I dump it? Cheers.

View Menu -> Sort Photos.

Search: Click on the Search Icon and then choose Date. Now you can find the photos from any day, month or year with a click.
Events: Your photos grouped by when they were taken. Want them in a Specific Order: View Menu -> Sort Events
I can happily testify that iPhoto is easy to use - but that's not much good to you. You're used to working one way, iPhoto works differently. I'm sure I would have many of the same issues if I went the opposite direction. What iPhoto won't do is work like Picasa (and indeed vice versa) Either you can adapt to it or just use Picasa on your Mac.

  • Why is iCal so much harder to use????

    Is it just me...but why does it seem like iCal is way harder to use in Leopard?!?!?! Just look at the number of steps/clicks it takes just to enter an entry.
    In month view, you double click on the day, but you can only enter in a title. you have to double click on the new event before you can enter in any details or even a time. And the box that pop-up is a tiny little box. In the old version of ical you could enter in everything in the right hand panel right away.
    Then there is viewing events you have to double the event to get a little pop-up in order to see the details of the event. All you had to do before was click on an event and it would display in the side panel. Much much easier and less work.
    Does the new ical bother anyone else? or is it just me? it just seems like they rushed it. there's lots of other little annoyances and inconsistencies in it too.

    Why is it that I seem to be unable to reply to this post? Well, here goes another try:
    I agree: iCal is harder to use. In addition, there seems to have been little or no super-improvement in iCal (etc.) as we move to Leopard. It looks to me as if Apple must have hired tired, clueless (typical) Microsoft programmers to "help" them in this latest development.
    I sincerely hope that Steve Jobs gets his broom out and cleans house. The "improvements" in Leopard seem to be salted with Windows-like stupidity and productivity reductions. Is Bill Gates now working in the Apple Human Resources Department?

  • Leopard harder to use than Win XP

    About a year ago I switched from Win XP to an iMac running OS X v 10.5. There are a lot of features that XP has that OS X doesn't that make XP much easier to use.
    Manipulating windows is much easier in XP because you can grab any corner or side of a window and resize it. What i don't like about the MAC is that I must grab the lower right hand corner of the window to resize it. And heaven forbid that corner gets hidden under the dock.... Also, in XP you can open an application in it's own window and then float documents within that window. I find that easier to work with than the way the MAC deals with it's windows. And I just hate spaces - I find them annoying.
    Is there any way to get some of the XP interface features onto my MAC?

  • Why are Windows 'APP's so much harder to code than a Windows Forms application?

    For example I have been smashing my head against a wall trying to save an image file from a share target, the best help I can find is the below code:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/65a61679-0da8-4109-8a69-b918be351dfa/how-to-save-a-bitmap-image-from-a-share-target?forum=winappswithcsharp&prof=required
    But in a 'normal' application I can do what I need to do with:
    using System;
    using System.Drawing;
    namespace Project1
    class Class1
    static void Main()
    Image photo = Image.FromFile("C:\\Temp\\oldphoto.png");
    photo.Save("C:\\Temp\\newphoto.png");
    Why do the APPs take so much more code to do something like save a file to disk?

    It is a good question!
    If you need 100 lines of code to save an image it is like a Java program:
    - complicated
    - not fun to develop with
    I think the main problem is that Microsoft release 2 new libraries each year. On the most cases, if you try to compile it with an old library it works, but the app crashes with unexpected errors. It is always harder to develop for Windows and there
    are always more libraries to use.
    So it begun to be normal, to find a W8-store-app-library and use it in Silverlight, to add missing functionality.
    It is a jungle and it seems that Microsoft too doesn't know anymore what library should be in the msdn-help. Some times, if you search for something, you finish on a library that can't be added to your project.
    This is the reason, because your question will probably never be answered!

  • ICloud Drive - hard to use from iPhone and iPad

    Hi All,
    I turned on iCloud Drive on my MacBook Pro and on my iPhone and iPad, but I cannot see all files I have on my MacBook through my iPhone / iPad. I'd like to know how I can have access to all my files ... I cannot see for instance my PDF files. I understand we need to have Numbers, KeyNote and Pages on our iPhone / iPad to open the files we moved to iCloud Drive on my MacBook Pro, and some spreadsheets I am able to open on my PDAs. But what about PDFs?
    It seems to be a little frustrating this new iCloud Drive. I am a big fan of Apple, but it seems Drop Box is still much better and useful than iCloud Drive.
    Thanks a lot for any help.
    Regards,
    Rogerio

  • Is ASM easier to use than BCEL?

    I need to use a library to manipulate bytecode, I was just wondering if ASM is much easier to use than BCEL because im tearing my hair out with BCEL.

    folks often say that
    asm is like sax,
    bcel is like dom
    for parsing class files, i think they are both pretty simple.
    If you are creating classes, they tend to both be more difficult.
    asm is a little more consistent and lite weight.
    bcel is a little better handling the constant pool, and also has the concept of a Repository (classpath).
    For new work, you probably should use asm, as there probably will be more support going forward, for new features.

  • Why is this so hard to use?

    All the iLife software is a breeze to use. My grandmother can even manage her pictures and music using iTunes and iPhoto. So why is GarageBand so freaking complicated. I have no idea how to do anything in it. Earlier, I wanted to create a dance beat track for a party. So I make a new track and select "dance pop". I never could make that a basic track. I just wanted a simple track with additional drum/beat tracks layered onto it. I spent a good hour trying to do it, but I never could get it to work.
    Does anyone else feel like GarageBand is way too complicated?

    Mr. Large:
    I really hate to break it to you, but I have been working with computer recording and synthesis programs for 20 years. I've tried everything. GarageBand is hands down the easiest program ever devised for recording and editing music. Nothing else comes close.
    That being said, one has to understand the basics of what music is and how it is organized in order to be able to use GarageBand effectively. Composing a song is a much more elaborate undertaking than snapping a picture with a point-and-shoot camera and cropping it (as in iPhoto).
    As for how to do anything in it, first, RTFM (Read the Fabulous Manual) in this case the built-in Help feature under the Help menu. Then you can go to Amazon.com and find a dozen or so books in print on working with GarageBand. If you really want to learn how to make music, I have two suggestions that I give to newbies: 1) Join a choir or chorus in your community or at your church, and obviously attend all the rehearsals, and 2) take piano lessons from a piano teacher. By doing these you will learn how music is organized and put together. That's the essence of GarageBand or any other program for recording music.

  • Why is there so much available space on my hard drive after installing Lion?

    I just made the decision to  go ahead and install the new operating system "Lion"
    I backed everything up to my Time Capsule and I have an older back up of everything on an external hard drive.
    Now I have two questions and one task.
    Why is there so much available space on my hard drive and where did my iPhoto library go after installing the new operating system?
    My task is to restore my most up to date iPhoto library which I assume is on my time capsule.
    How should I approach this task?

    Hi entresoft,
    I am not sure how to do this. I am not a very literate computer person but have a vague idea of what you are suggesting.
    If I do manage to figure out how to do what you have suggested will this restore my iPhoto Library and I assume maybe other files?
    Thanks!

  • Why does my iPhoto quit every time i use it?

    why does my iPhoto quit every time i use it?

    Thanks for your help.
    1st, when I go to software updates, it says all my software is up to date.  Perhaps that is because I only have OS 10.7.5 and the updated iPhoto version is for an updated OS version.
    I turned off the counts in prefernces and still can empty the trash.  It gets stuck and will not empty more than about 1/5 of the trash.
    Can you help me figure out the fastest way to back up iPhoto.  I have the cloud backup but not sure how to check to see if it is actually backing up my photos.  Do you know how to check into this?  Is it better to back up on a hard drive?
    Thanks again for your help ...

    This last version is beyond awful. It took an already hard to use program - but one that I had at least figured out and made it even harder.

  • Why does iPhoto (9.0/11) not retain the Event name when exporting more than one event? (using File - Export - Album name with number).

    Why does iPhoto (9.0/11) not retain the Event name when exporting more than one event? (using File -> Export -> Album name with number).
    Exporting a single Event retains the Event name which is what I'd expect. But highlighting more than one event and exporting it renames the images to Events 001.JPG, Event 002.JPG etc.
    I was recently on holidays and had all my events nicely split on Dad's computer but when I went to export it I couldn't retain any of this information. Now I have to replicate this all again on my computer.
    It wasn't possible to export the entire library as the external drive was fat32 format an I didn't want all of it. It would be nice to export a bunch of events to someone and have it retain the name.
    Does anyone have a work around or will this be fixed at some point by Apple?
