Why is iPhoto suddenly in my Trash basket?

Why does iPhoto suddenly appear in my Trash basket, and how do I get it out?

As far as I can see, it did "jump in there all by itself".  That is why I am asking the question.
I dragged it back to the application folder, so now I have an iPhoto with an icon in the application folder, and an iPhoto folder also in the applications folder.

  • Why did iphoto suddenly disappear from my computer?

I tried to launch iphoto from my dock last night and it had a ? mark on the icon. I looked for the application on my computer and it is gone. Nothing in the trash and I am the only user of this computer. I have reinstalled the application but I would like to know why this happened. Microsoft Word also dissappeared in the same way. Could this be an OSX problem? I am currently running OSX 10.6.8. Has anyone had similar issues?

I actually did have a similar problem. iPhoto never left but I saw a generic "piece of paper with the 'A' application symbol" application icon in iPhoto's place with a ø symbol over that. It said iPhoto was corrupt or was missing files so it wouldn't let me open it. Not that it mattered in my case because I never use it, but nevertheless this is still a mystery to me.

  • Why is iPhoto suddenly deleting my sets from Flickr??

I am trying to upload a few photos to my Flickr account (Pro) and when I do it first said unable to connect. Now iPhoto connects, but it says "deleting set blank from your Flickr account" Why is this happening?

Yes, I have the same problem for iphoto 11.  It deletes a photo set when I navigate away from the upload page and tells me so with a pop up box.
I used to work fine in iPhoto '09.

  • Why is iPhoto suddenly missing from OX 10.8.5?

I rarely use iPhoto but today I tried to open it and it is inexplicably missing from my computer. I have a MacBook Air from a couple of years ago and I'm running OX 10.8.5. I'm holding off of Mavericks until problems are resolved and my IT guy says it's okay. What happened to iPhoto? I cannot use the new iPhoto until I have maverick.

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • Why Is iPhoto Lib so Huge?

My iPhoto Library ("Lib") had about 6,000 pictures- no peformance issues but it seemed prudent to archive the older photos from 2 years ago. Additionally, my external back-up drive was close to full.
I burned two copies of the Lib on separate DVDs then exported the photos and burned to a third DVD (to have unformatted copies).
I then deleted the 3,000 old photos AND emptied the iPhoto Trash. Guess what? The size of the Lib barely changed, it went from 14GB to 13GB (when viewed from the Finder). Although in iPhoto it says the library is 6.1GB.
It is giving the 13GB Lib size on Get Info on the internal and external drives.
Why didn't I free up disk space by deleting the photos?
    Carl

    Carl:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a lot of overhead in the iPhoto Library folder. iPhoto only reports the cumulative size of the original files or those files you've selected. When a disk is burned via the Share->Burn Disk menu option the thumbnail and Modified files are burned along with the Original files and the various database files. That adds up considerably. The true size of your library can be obtained via the Finder.
If you remember the file names or roll names of some of the photos you deleted you can look in the iPhoto/Originals folder for subfolders with the same roll name and see what's inside. Or do a Spotlight search for one of the file names. See if you find anything. They should have been removed from the hard drive.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How do I delete photos from iPod Touch?  Some photos do not have the trash basket option!

How do I delete photos from iPod Touch?  Some photos do not have the trash basket option!
When I first synced my iPod Touch with my laptop, it uploaded a lot of photos onto the iPod.  I now wish to delete those but it does not seem as a straight forward option!

For photos synced to the iPod you have to unsync them:
To delete photos from your device
In iTunes, select the device icon in the Devices list on the left. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    Choose "Sync photos from."
On a Mac, choose iPhoto or Aperture from the pop-up menu.
On a Windows PC, choose Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
    Click Apply.

  • IPhoto suddenly won't show windows anymore, help, anyone?

Since I've been using Lion I expierence all kinds of problems. I regret updating ever since.
For example, my internet connection keep turning of every couple of minutes (while all other divices at home stay connected). My solution is to turn my wifi off, wait a while and than turn it on again. It's really poor when one uses the best iMac there is. But I guess that's Lion. I got used to it.
    But my question:
iPhoto suddenly stopped working (at first it did work!). It does start, but it won't show any windows.
I've deleted the cache, restarted my iMac, no result.
It all began when I plugged in my iPhone.
Now I'm no longer able to backup my photo's anymore.
    Can anyone help?
I've also tried cicking the icon while pressing alt and cmd, for more options, but it doesn't work...
Hopefully one of you know the solution!
    Thx!
    A.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Why is iPhoto Library Still 20+ GB?

I have just about stopped using iPhoto (mostly use Lightroom now), and so have been deleting all of the "events" I'd stored there over the past year in order to free up some disk space on my MacBook HDD.
When I started, I had about 25GB in my iPhoto library (according to "Get Info"). I then proceeded to delete all but a few hundred MB of events and photos using the "Move to Trash" function in the "Photos" menu. When I was done I emptied the trash. Don't worry, all the photos are stored on another computer.
So how come my iPhoto Library says it's still using up 20+GB? Is there some default value in iPhoto that accounts for that?
If so, I might be tempted to delete iPhoto altogether. Like I said... never use it.
    -PS

How have you been deleting the photos from iPhoto? Are you emptying the iPhoto Trash bin via the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option? What does the finder say the library's size is? It will be larger than what iPhoto reports since iPhoto only lists the Original files.
If you never use iPhoto then do delete it, after exporting the files to folders so you don't lose them. There is a lot of overhead in a library, thumbnail files, database files, etc. You must have another application that you use for digital asset management so you can use iPhoto just for those special jobs that only iPhoto can do, books, calendars, etc. I use iView MediaPro/Expression Media as my DAM application and create libraries for those special projects like books. When I'm done with a book and have ordered it, I burn the library to a DVD via the Finder to archive the book in case I may want to order another copy at some time in the future. After burning to disk I delete the library.
iPhoto may be not for everyone. But don't go deleting it before saving the photos that are still in it.
NOTE: Lightroom and iPhoto do not play well together with iPhoto getting the short end of the stick. Making edits with lightroom or adding metadata with it and writing to the files can cause those files to be iPhoto incompatible.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Iphoto Deleted but not trashed

My Iphoto library was trashed but the trash was not deleted. I dragged it to the desktop then dragged it to the dock but it isn't working properly. I have the pictures in my library but whenever I scroll thru the pictures or even click on the iphoto icon I get the spinning wheel on a regular basis.
I never got the wheel until I trashed the iphoto and tried to restore.
Was there better way to restore the iphoto application after I trashed it? Thanks in advance

Okay, so this is a little tricky, since the terminology you are using is conflicting, so let's see what's going on...
    1) From your wording, it seems that you trashed the iPhoto LIBRARY, not the Application itself...if this is the case, you're going to have to figure out where your iPhoto library originally existed, before you trashed it (WHY DID YOU TRASH YOUR IPHOTO LIBRARY, by the way?). You can use Google, but I know for me, personally, I moved my iPhoto library from where it originally was created.
    2) Another thing that you can do, is to hold the "Alt/Option" key down as you're opening iPhoto. This will allow you to choose an iPhoto library. Browse to the one that you pulled out of the trash, and this HOPEFULLY should repair it.
Let me know if this works. By the way, why are you asking this in the iPhone 4 forum?

  • Why do iPhoto pictures appear darker than Photoshop?

    Hello everyone,
I don't print from iPhoto, but in viewing on screen, photos are noticeably darker than in Photoshop. Does anyone know why this is the case, and whether it is possible to brighten the on-screen view in iPhoto?
My photos appear in a magazine, and are very close to the Photoshop version.
    Thanks.

  • Why does iphoto not copy all photos when transfering

    Hi peeps.
why does iPhoto not copy all photos from an event when im copy/pasting to an external folder on my mac(for later transfer). All softwares are up to date and ive only just realised it happens, but when i copy all pics in an event then paste in a folder, the pic count is substantially different. for example i select all pictures in an event called 'new1', the count of files is 188. i then copy/ paste to a folder,  select all files and check 'info' and it says 141 files???
all i can see painstakingly going through to compare which images are in each place is that the ones that arent in my new folder , seem to be the ones ive edited in iPhoto??  conincidence? or am I missing something fundamental here?  Ive only just realised this is occuring. The trouble is, after moving images to folders/hard drives I  subsequently delete them from iphoto to keep my macbook airs HDD with some space.  So basically all of the versions of pictures I want, i.e, the new edited and adjusted versions are no longer! NOT HANDY!
      help please.

We've seen a few reports of this in the past while and no one is sure of the cause.

means you are losing quality, metadata and the version of control. If you don't want these why use iPhoto at all?
You could just move the whole Library to an external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Why does iPhoto cancel book orders?

I made a 20 page soft cover book with photos from my Nikon D2x, i.e. great color and resolution...after waiting two weeks for books to come I check order history and find that my order has been canceled with no explanation and no notifying email. Why do they do this? This was my first experience with iPhoto and looks like it will be my last.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. One possible reason could be the font - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300964. If you used a type 1 font it can be kicked back. Also if you opt to have page numbers and any of the photos in the layout obscure the number it can be rejected.

  • Why are the emails in my "trash" folder deleted automatically every Saturday?

Why are the emails in my "trash" folder deleted automatically every Saturday?  The employee at the Apple Store told me to contact my email carrier, but they told me it was an Apple issue.
    iPhone5c  iOS 8.1.2

I keep Outlook Express running on my desktop all the time.  The emails come into the inboxes of both my desktop and my iPhone.  Once the emails are received on the desktop and I read them on my phone, they automatically go into the trash folder.  If it really is trash, I manually delete them and they go over to the other trash folder.  Then I can empty all of them at once.  If it's really important, sometimes I manually move it to another folder.  But then Saturday comes along and the trash folder all of a sudden becomes empty.

  • Why my iphoto stop working kept downloading nothing happening

why my iphoto stop working kept downloading nothing happening

    Because it's broken?
Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

  • Why does Acrobat suddenly not work on my Mac (won't open pdf files from a web page), yet I can open them from my iPhone? Everything worked fine yesteray.

    Hello:
I have a Mac running OS 10.8.5 and I use Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. Today for some reason, any time I try and access a pdf file from a web page, it won't open. I get a blank window. PDF files already on my computer open fine and I can create PDF files from Word docs, but I can't download or view any pdf file from any web page. Strangely, PDF files on web pages open just fine on my iPhone.
I checked that both my copy of Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader are up-to-date. They are.
I checked that my copy of Firefox is up-to-date. It is. And nothing changed with Firefox within the last 24 hours.
I am a humble computer end-user. I am baffled as to why this would suddenly not work. I have not changed any settings, etc. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
I checked your instructions you sent and as far as I can tell all of my settings, etc for Firefox (plugin updates and preferences) are correct but I am having the same problem.
However, everything works in Safari. I don't have time to attempt to diagnose why Firefox no longer works. I will just switch to Safari.
    Many thanks.
