Why is ipod trying to connect out to a remote address -unknown?

Hi Guys,
When I check the security logs on my wireless routers firewall I get the following warning  messages which relate to a family members 4th Gen Ipod Touch.
Whats  it trying to do & why?.
Under advice I turned off UpnP yesterday afternoon.:
The 192xxx .66 realtes to the family members Ipod. What is going on here & what is The Ipod trying to do  - noone was anyhwere nearer it at this time of the morning.
Very grateful if anyone could explain what these messages mean & perhaps  help me understand what the Ipod is trying to do - without anyone using it?.

Is it at all possible that an Ipod can have a Virus? or Malware - "Kik" social networking App was downloaded last week & dissapeared within an hour. Later face time stopped working but is back now. Little worried that this Ipod has somehow been hacked.
Apprecaite any help.
Thanks.

Hi - "display remote images in HTML messages" was already deselected, so I don't think it was an HTML message connecting.
But your response made me wonder about whether it was something else in an old email that was causing the problem - I had a search and found some emails from back in 2006 (when I did some work in Malawi for CARE) that were from the mail server (mailer.malawi.net = 196.201.4.6) that has been appearing. However, I still don't understand why (six years later) Mail is now trying to connect to this server ... I'm pretty sure that it never used to happen (and I have been a full-time Mac user since 2003), as I always have the activity window open and would have noticed, so it is only since I upgraded to Lion last week that it started. Any thoughts? I could delete/archive the old emails, but I would really like to understand what is happening?
Thanks - andy

  • Why is Mail trying to connect to an unknown mail server (and how do I stop it)?

Hi - I'm worried that someone has hacked into my system so that it tries to connect to a fake mail server (perhaps to send spam)? I usually have the activity window open when Mail is running, and noticed that it was trying to connect to an unfamiliar mail server the other day - it was shown as an IP address whereas all the mail servers in my mail accounts have names rather than IP addresses ... so I copied the IP address down and searched for it (196.201.4.6), to find that it is run by malawi.net ... in Africa. I recently upgraded to Mac OS Lion, so initially I had figured that it was showing the mail server address differently, but I couldn't think of any reason that my email servers would be in Malawi!
By now I was getting worried: I checked all my mail accounts to be sure that something had not changed, and confirmed that none of my accounts used this mail server (or mentioned the IP address); and confirmed that the "Connecting to server "196.201.4.6"" activity message only appeared when I first reconnected to the internet (i.e. now when I manually clicked on "get mail") ... which suggests to me that it is a hidden process somewhere?
I don't have a virus checker, but downloaded ClamXav and ran a check on my user folders ... but found nothing.
Any thoughts on what this might be, or - if it is something malicious or externally controlled - how I can remove it?
    Thanks - andy

  • Why is Verizon trying to connect to my computer

I have an IMAC computer. In my console message log, I see that Verizon ( 173.79.214.66:53) is making Stealth connects to my computer every few seconds. These attempts are all being blocked by my Firewall. Why is Verizon trying to make these connects?

After looking that IP Address and finding the rDNS, I find it hard to believe that Verizon is trying to connect to your computer.
rDNS for that IP Address is pool-173-79-214-66.washdc.fios.verizon.net
What more likely is happening and I don't know why at this time, is that a Verion customer is trying to connect to your computer.
I can take educated guess(es) as to why the customer is trying to connect to your computer.
#1 Perhaps your computer's public IP Address is listed as a public DNS Server?
For example, the user might be using the tool from
http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm and is trying to buid a custom list of the top DNS Server(s), based upon their location.
Or the user might be using the tool from
    http://code.google.com/p/namebench/
The programer(s) of these tools has not removed your IP Address in the list of IP Address(es).
For the grc.com DNS tester the list is at http://www.grc.com/dns/resolvers.csv
For the google DNS tester, I found the list by:
    a) From that URL that I gave earlier, I clicked on Source,
    b) I found the URL for read only access.
    c) Went to that URL
    d) Browsed to trunk/config,
    e) Then clicked on servers.csv
#2 Perhaps they made a typo when entering in what DNS Server (or DNS Servers) to use?
For example if you look at the list of DNS Server(s) in the Google DNS Tester, you will notice that there are DNS Servers that are blacklisted (or rejected) because the at least one user made a typo.

  • Error while trying to connect to weblogic from remote client

    Hi
I was trying to connect to JMX MBeanserver from a aremote client using some sample code that was posted. Ive tried even the samples that I found in the Admin Guide itself. Im not certain if any server configuration is needed. Ive tried the below with all three protocols t3, iiop, http with the same result. I had also enabled IIOP on the server through the console.
I get an error when trying to conenct using the JMXConnection Factory i.e. at the last line of the following code:

         h.put(JMXConnectorFactory.PROTOCOL_PROVIDER_PACKAGES, "weblogic.management.remote");

  • Getting error 789 when trying to connect with a PC remotely via VPN

When we set up the VPN we are getting a Error 789 when trying to connect with a PC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The utilities, provided on the CD, are not required for the PC to access the Internet through the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). They are only necessary for administering the base station.
If your PC is currently configured as a DHCP client, it shouldn't have any issues connecting by Ethernet. The AEBSn will assign the appropriate IP addresses required for connectivity to the Internet ... just like it does for wireless clients.

The googleapi.jar contains copies of some javamail classes. Here a few I found in my output:
    javax.mail.event.MessageCountListener from googleapi.jar
    javax.mail.Session from googleapi.jar
    javax.mail.MessagingException from googleapi.jar
    javax.mail.NoSuchProviderException from googleapi.jar
This particular google api is the old SOAP google service that is no longer allowing new registrations, but still has support for existing API key holders, like me :-). Thought this might be a common jar in most libraries, so worth mentioning.
Don't forget, you can debug your loaded classes with java -verbose MyApp to find those rogue libraries.

  • Why is Apple trying to phase out the 1st generation Apple TV, but they still sell shows, and movies?

Why would Apple continue to sell movies to people who won the 1st generation Apple TV,  while they are obviously trying to phase it out?  That is totally unfair to the original customers!  The upgraded remote only works with audio content, and not video!  If they are phasing it out, than they should no longer sell products to download to it!  Or when they upgrade their remote app, have it work with the item that you're still making money off of! Now, I have to turn on my computer in order to listen to music with the new upgrade, whereas I never had to do that before!

    Hello:
You are only talking to users here (not Apple).  I suggest your direct your question to Apple HQ in Cupertino.

    Edit:
Heres an error fromthe event log:
The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server <Service Account>. The target name used was HOST/server.domain.domain.com. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can
occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also
happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to
use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (domain.domain.COM) is different from the client domain (domain.domain.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified
    name to identify the server.
So maybe I was just given the wrong account.

  • HT200160 mac keeps trying to connect to a server that no longer exists

every so often throughout the day, i'll get a error dialong telling me that my mac can't connect to a server because it no longer exists. This server was my old machine that has since been renamed on the network.
i don't want it to connect, i also don't want it to ask to connect. how do i find out why it's trying to connect, and how do i end this madness?

Boot in safe mode as directed here:
    Starting up in Safe Mode
Log in and see whether you still have the problem. If you don't, it's caused by one of your login items or a system modification that loads at startup or login.
If the problem isn't resolved that way, other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application
See iMovie Troubleshooting: Connection Failed, Server Does Not Exist.

  • Ipod wont stay connected and icon disappears from finder

I have a new 80g video ipod, have had it for about three weeks. Up until today all was fine, but now it won't stay connected to itunes after updating files. It connects, shows up on the desk top for a few seconds, updates any new files and then just drops out. It keeps the do not disconnect screen for a few seconds, then the red warning logo disappears and after that i can not do anything with the ipod in itunes. The ipod music list is greyed out and I can't add any new photos or change anything. The only thing I have done differently since it was last working ok was I connected my camera using the camera connector and uploaded some pictures from that.
I have done a reset and now a restore but that hasn't helped.
is the problem with the ipod or itunes? What can I do?

Sorry, this may be a case of "always read the manual first"!
I think that what I thought was a fault with the ipod was in fact due to the default preference for auto syncing being enabled. As I had my previous ipod set to manual update I was used to being able to make changes to the ipods lists whilst connected, but as my new ipod is still set to automatically sync I now realise that this is why the ipods list was greyed out. In this mode it appears that it is usual that as soon as you connect, itunes updates any changes and then disconnects and the red "do not disconnect" screen on the ipod goes. If there were no new additions or changes to playlists made since the last time you connected, the sync will only take a few seconds and then the ipod screen goes back to the menu list. Also, because in auto sync the ipod will be updated with a copy of your itunes contents, the ipod's list is greyed out due to the fact that you are not able to make changes independently from your itunes list. (i.e. you have to make the changes in itunes in order for these to be replicated on the ipod).
In order to keep connected and be able to alter things on the ipod list you have to have the preference set to manually update. Then the ipods contents are not greyed out and you can add, delete and change playlists without doing this in your main itunes on the computer.
So I think I have answered my own question, unless I am still misunderstanding something here, and the moral is, download and read the manual properly before worrying that there is something wrong with the machine!
I still think its a bit weird that the ipod icon disappears from he desktop though as I thought it would be at least recognised as being attached even if not in disc mode. Should it still show in the finder anyway?

  • Ipod will not connect to wifi

My ipod touch has stopped connecting to my home network. The network name appears in the list and the ipod tries to connect but the circular animation continues to play to the left of the network name. When I change the ip address to static and enter the numbers manually I get a tick appearing next to the network name but no connection. I have updated all software and gone through the apple troubleshooting guide to no avail. Any sensible suggestions?

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Does the iPod see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Itunes says it is trying to connect to non plugged in Ipads and Iphones

I get it that my devices should wireless update when plugged into power but Itunes freezes up alot and it seems like it always says it is trying to connect to this or that.  Why is it trying to connect to a device that is not plugged into any power outlet?
How many devices can one pc handle that are all plugged in and charging which triggers the automatic updates from Itunes.   That wireless feature is pretty fancy but since trying it I seem to reboot my Itunes alot because it is frozen.
Is anyone having alot of luck with this wireless updating using more than 3 iphones and or Ipads on the same Itunes PC

    Hey Bikerbabe09,
I would start off your troubleshooting process by following these steps:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update (iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking Check for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guide for your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

  • Macbook pro trying to connect to wrong mac address?

    Hey everyone,
    I'm running on a 2010 Macbook Pro OS X 10.7.2.
Basically, my 309g-m stopped working the other day. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and software, but it still refuses to print (I get stuck at "looking for printer"). I have, however, noticed that when I'm adding a printer in system preferences, the printer is listed as "Photosmart Premium C309g-m [F1EDA7]." However, after connecting my printer to my network (via the printer), the page printed listed that my Hardware Address (MAC) is "78:e7:d1:f1:ed:a8" - So I think my Macbook is trying to connect to the wrong mac address.
    Any ideas?
P.S. I've tried to connect via IP and my computer cannot find the printer.

No, that all looks good.  Your printer's unique "name" is HP plus the last 6 digits of your printer's MAC address.
On the front of the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.  What does it say about the printer's wireless radio?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
    I am employed by HP
