Why the heck has this become such a problem?. Windows no longer sees my photos (7 or vista) .. On any another computer I try to copy the photos It stops when it finds an empty invalid drive on the phone (I have hundreds now) is it because the lightning cable connection is terrible and disconnects so much Apple won't let me say it s.u.c.k.s. it reconnects over and over and over (get my point) I could always downlod (IE Copy) my photos to any of my windows based PC before ios 8. now it is worthless to even try. I have 10 I phones on my company plan seems like it is time for other options. Since they made it such a problem to copy the photos I took to my computer. (I still have 1 XP pc and that is even less than worthless!) because the photos show up as some invalid format not supported.

I want to use iCloud to backup both my iPhone and iPad, but not any of the pictures on these devices. I want to backup the pictures to my iMac, since they take up so much space. What is the best way to do this? What is the correct way to copy pictures from my iPhone to the iPad without using any 3rd party apps? I figured out how to import pictures from my iPhone into iPhoto. I unplugged my iPhone and plugged in my iPad. Then I tried dragging and dropping the pictures, within the iPhoto application, onto the iPad. This doesn't work. Then I tried dragging and dropping them onto the iPad in iTunes. This also doesn't work because I get a message telling me that my iPad can't play jpegs. I eventually figured out I had to open my ipad in itunes and change my backup settings from icloud to "this computer". Then I click on the photos tab at the top and find my album and sync it. But when I sync it is also syncing everything else to the computer as well, which is something I wanted to handle with the icloud. It seems like it is intentionally difficult to succeed in the way I want to, just so I am forced to buy extra storage space on icloud. This is very frustrating. Any help is much appreciated.

I can't see why it has too many steps? I transferred all my camera roll to my PC (yep, not a Mac) when I needed to do a restore. Then told iTunes to sync that folder, and wow, they're back on my iPhone! I'll get to the point where I'll will put them into their own folders according to the event, and syncing will magically sort them out on my iPhone too. If I later want to add more photos to that event, I just drag and drop into that folder. iTunes will pretty much sync my iPhone everytime it's connected anyway, so it's no effort at all.
With the amount of hard drive storage space available to pretty much every PC/Mac these days, it's not really an issue having a backup of wallpapers, is it? Will it honestly affect the space you'll have available for everything else?

Hard time copying photos from iphoto to external hard drive

Sorry this is so long, and perhaps unclear, but I would like to copy my photos from my iphoto library onto an external hard drive. The problem is that every time I try and copy the whole library, it finds a picture that crashes the whole effort. I then tried exporting Event by Event to the hard drive, and that worked for a while, but then after about 10 of them it stopped working: about 50 photos into each Event it tells me that it cannot create the volume on the hard drive. Do you think it's a problem with the hard drive?
I have tens of thousands of photos, and this is taking forever, since every way I try to do it starts but never finishes, and I am never sure what actually has transfered.
I also have opened the iphoto library and copied the originals, the modified, AND the data files, but that takes forever too, and I'm never sure if I really have everything. I'd like to copy event by event if possible... and I do not want my iPhoto library to live only on the hard drive, since I use it as a back up and not permanently attached. any ideas?

No, that message usually means that iPhoto cannot find the actual photo being copied.
Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

Missing photos since ios8

I Have iPhone 5S, and since the update today I have lots of photos missing from both my iPhone and iPad ... I had over 100 photos and now only have 34 ...just one album titled 'recently added' and one 'videos' .... Plus another for 'recently deleted' ..... Same on both iPhone and iPad mini ....I had a lot of important photos which I cannot get now and cannot believe these have now disappeared for good...
what at has happened and how can I get them back ???

Copying photos from iPhotos to an external hard drive, changes the dates the photo was created

I have the odd query where when I copy photos from iPhoto in to any other folder, whether it's on the mac deskstop or an external hard drive, that the 'date created' on the some of the photos is changed from the date the photo was actually taken to some random date. This is sometimes the date that I move the photos and sometime a date seemingly randomly selected between the date when the photo was taken and then date I copied the photos.
It doesn't make a different if I copy or cut and paste each file, and if I select all photos from a single event and copy then all in one go, some photos keep the correct data and others don't.
Most of these photo of of my baby, so the exact date take is very important ofr reference. Current I have a 100 odd photos taken over a few weeks all with the same 'created date'. I have no idea if she was 10 week or 20 weeks old at the time.
Any ideas? It's really frustrating me.

Although it does not affect this do you have a default managed library or a (strongly not recommedned) referenced library - (The iPhoto advanced preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" has been unchecked) which is strongly NOT recommended.

Yes pretty much that, but to clarify sorry
Opened Lightroom.
Create new catalogue.
This opened the Windows 8 file explorer window and Windows recognises the drive. So I was able to create a catalogue there and save.
I then inserted my memory card into my card reader which LR recognised. I selected it, chose all the photos within and then navigated to the right side of the Lr import dialogue window to locate this problem drive as on this occasion i want the RAW files on the same drive as the lrcat. However all my other drives are listed but not this Samsung SSD.
In addition this Samsung SSD is not listed a drive to import from in the same dialogue window.

Saving hard copy photos

I have hundreds of hard copy photos. Need to make room for storage and want to either copy, scan to discs. Which is the easiest, quickest way to do this. I have a HP Photosmart All-in-One e-printer.

What printer model? (There are many Photosmart models.)
I would suggest using Solution Center to scan the files, use "millions of colors" and "300ppi" settings for scanning. Some models will allow putting several photo's on the glass at once and the scanner software will automatically scan each picture into a seperate file. This will make the process faster.
Be aware that for hundreds of photo's this will not be a quick process....

It's possible they aren't in the right format. See this list to verify you have the correct format. I know some Sony cameras use the ARW interface (known as RAW).
You may want to use a photo converter like photoshop, etc. to get photos into .jpeg or other file formats.

I was trying to insert several photos into 1 pages file, but when I moved the photos, these were getting no order.

It was the removal of features that first captured most users' attention, but it has gradually been dawning on people that 1. the software really is shockingly buggy and 2. just not well designed: the new format panel, e.g., is not just a screen-real- estate hog, it makes even the simplest formatting MUCH more difficult. The design for iOS devices is actually much easier to use. Pages for the Mac really is, as one early reviewer put it, an "unmitigated disaster." It is every bit as bad as the Apple Maps app, but I guess no one much cares about word processing, or maybe it's just that most who do use Word. More and more people who used to use Pages will be doing that in the future.

That is correct.

Thre are NOT duplicates.
ALL photos synced to iphone will be in the "Photo mediateka". You can ALSO access those exact same photos from you named folder. If you had mulitiple photos, then all of the photos would be in the "Photo mediateka" and you could also access the exact same pics from each of the folders.
You do not have duplicates. it is working exactly as it should.

CTrying to figure out why I can't load or copy any photo or video files from my laptop to my IPhone. I have a 3gs and am using the latest verson

My laptop uses Windows 7 and, on several occasions, I've tried to copy photos and videos to my IPhone so I can take them with me but nothing seems to work. I always get a message saying that the devise is no longer connected or failed to work. This applies to all functions of copy/paste or drag and drop. I was told that it had something to do with the way I was set up with regard to syncing but I'm not able to find anything that changes it. I can copy files to my Cloud Drive on the computer but nothing ever transfers in from my phone either. What's up?

What is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If the videos are in an iPhone compatible format and are in a folder of photos selected to be transferred to your iPhone under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, do you also have Include Videos selected under the Photos tab?
Or if the videos are in an iPhone compatible format, they need to be in your iTunes library and can be selected under the Movies tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes to be transferred to your iPhone.

I tried hard reset on my iPhone. I tried restarting laptop and iPhone. I tried a different laptop. I tried removing driver and reinstalling from Device Manager but did not find a driver other than "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" which I heard shouldn't be uninstalled.
Anything I haven't tried?

Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

Copying photos from one computer to another, with descriptions

After editing photo descriptions and locations in iPhoto, it is desireable to be able to copy them to iPhoto on another computer, with the associated photo descriptions and locations. In principle, this is possible by selecting all desired photos, then selecting File -> Export... In the Export dialog box, in the "File Export" tab, select "Include: Titles and keywords", and "Include: Location information". Copy the exported files to the other computer, and do a File -> Import to Library ...
In practice, this works fine with images taken by some cameras, and not with images from others. In my limited experience with a Fuji F80EXR and a Canon SX230HS, the above work flow works with the Fuji. But, with the Canon, while the exported files clearly have the description data embedded in them (as seen by GraphicConverter), it is not imported into iPhoto, nor is it visible in Preview's Inspector. The workaround I use is to run an exiftool command on the exported files.
Exiftool is a command line utility that can read and write meta data in image files:

I run the following command on the exported files to rewrite the IPTC Caption:
exiftool −overwrite_original_in_place -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
Note that the above command overwrites the files that were exported from iPhoto. If you wish to leave the original files intact, with an "_original" appended to the file name, run:
exiftool -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
I'm not sure why it is necessary to copy and rewrite that data. Perhaps there is something strange in the format of the meta data in the file as it comes from the camera, and the iPhoto export does not correct this strangeness. Copying and rewriting the data by exiftool seems to put things right.
The above works for me, but is somewhat unwieldy. Is there a better way to copy photos from one computer to another, if iPhoto refuses to import the description data that it was written to the exported files?

Thanks for the pointer. I did a test with 10 images, and confirmed the iPLM works, even with the problematic images from my Canon SX230HS.
The workflow is to use iPLM to create a new Library on the computer that has the photos you want to copy. Copy the photos to the new Library. Copy the new Library to the second computer using a method of your choice (file sharing, USB flash drive, etc). Copy the photos from the new Library to the existing iPhoto Library.
iPLM costs $20, whereas my original solution was free (but you need to invest the time to get exiftool installed and working). But, unlike exiftools, iPLM also copies over the Faces information, so it is likely a worthwhile investment if you use that feature.
