Why is it taking SO long to export?

I have trying to export a project for a week now. This is footage that I got from my Canon HDV camera. It is something that I got off of my DVR. Quality looks fine on my computer but by the time that I get it to a DVD it looks awful. First thing I tried was to just put it on the media server to get it to iDVD. I used the medium setting. Took 2 hours to export a 40 minute project. So after doing that with another project I exported them to iDVD. It told me I had to have a Dual Layer DVD just to fit two 40 minute videos, plus it had to encode them. So I thought I would try to just use Quicktime export. I made sure that it was not being compressed by Quicktime. I start to export and it take about 40 minutes, then that bar disappears and a new one begins to creep across, it says the estimated time is 5000 minutes. Granted it is counting down pretty quickly but I come back about 30 minutes later and it is only about 10% of the way done.
I'm getting really frustrated here. I should be able to fit full quality video that is only 80 minutes on a standard DVD. Even if I can't I should be able to fit 80 minutes of full video on a DL DVD without compressing it. Why is this so hard? Any ideas?

Took 2 hours to export a 40 minute project.
Previous version of iMovie rendered each transition, title, special effect, as a physical file (which is why rendering took so long), stored it in your project, updated a "reference" file which represented the current status of your timeline. iMovie '08, on the other hand, performs all of it rendering at the time of export and then compresses the file for your selected export specification.
So after doing that with another project I exported them to iDVD. It told me I had to have a Dual Layer DVD just to fit two 40 minute videos, plus it had to encode them.
Sounds like you forgot to change your iDVD output mode from the 60-minute HQ mode to the extended 90-mode here. Remember iDVD encodes to MPEG2/PCM and not MPEG2/AC3.
I start to export and it take about 40 minutes, then that bar disappears and a new one begins to creep across, it says the estimated time is 5000 minutes.
First bar was probably for the "menu" and the second was probably for the movie content. BTW, do you have have iDVD set to encode in the background or to begin encoding only when you manually start the burn process?

  • Why is it taking so long to back up on my external hard drive?

Why is it taking so long to back up all my data onto my exernal hard drive using time machine?
I turn it on every day for about 12 hours to backup.
I think it will take about 4-5 days to complete, is this normal?

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Post the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — edit that out, too, but don’t remove the context.

Why is it taking so long to download. Is this normal?

    How long is "so long"?
Some product downloads are up to 1.6GB; that can take some time - very much depending on your Internet connection.  Check http://www.download-time.com/
For a test, I just downloaded Illustrator CC 2014 (1.6 GB), and the download completed within 13 minutes (and I am 10,000 km away from the Adobe download servers).
Try downloading from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2014-direct-download-links.html - make sure you follow the Very Important Instructions on that page.

  • Why is it taking so long to download InDesign CC?

Why is it taking so long to download InDesign CC?
If I am not able to download the new applications, due to an extremely slow connection, does Adobe have other means to help me obtain the software?
    Are there any 'other' solutions?

Yes, I was able to finally download two out of three of my applications. I waited three hours to get two pieces of software, and I still need to download one more application.
While talking to the customer service department in India, I was told that I could not get help in bypassing my slow Internet connection. Even though I have been a loyal and law abiding customer for thirteen years, Adobe's customer service department treated me like a piece of crap. All I wanted to do is get my applications on cd, so I can bypass the buggy and long downloading periods. I tried desperately to explain: (1) I have been a loyal customer for thirteen years, (2) I bought and committed to a yearly subscription, (3) I have followed Adobe's legal rules since day one, (4) I have no problems with the software's DRM, and (5) I love and support Adobe products.
Regardless about how much I sympathized with Adobe's position, I could not get your customer service department to 'care about me'. I walked away feeling depressed and defeated.
As a result of going through a horrible customer service experience, while also struggling with the change to cloud, I started to think about a change in career. Why do I want to be a graphic and web designer? I spent a crap load of money on an education, so that I can become a slave to the industry's dominate software maker. If it was not for the fact that Adobe's software is the industry's standard, the recent events with your customer service department would have made me walk away.
It sucks that your company has a 90% strangle hold on the industry I love.

  • Why is it taking so long to download iCloud onto new phone

Why is it taking so long to download my iCloud onto new phone

What does download iCloud mean? You don't download iCloud. You download the content that is in your iCloud backup to your phone. If you have a great deal of content in the backup, it can take a good bit of time.
Define "so long". That doesn't mean anything to anybody here. It's a relative term and we have no idea how much time "so long" is to you.

If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Check your internet speeds just in case >  Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Try not using other applications that require downloading files while downloading media from iTunes.
