Why is it taking up 87gb of space?

I had to reinstall firefox because it was having issues, so i uninstalled it and used chrome to download it again. When i downloaded it and started to install it, i noticed it was taking a long time and was taking up a lot of space.
It took a total of 87gb of space. I dont know why. I tried uninstalling it, and it was working fine up untill it froze. I couldn't stop the uninstallation so i just logged off and logged back on. Now i can't uninstall it at all.
It has to be some sort of file glitch, or something of the sort. It can't be a virus, when was the last time you saw a 87gb virus? I downloaded it straight from mozilla.com. There's just no way.
Any help with this?

I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space. When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones. Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space. I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

What is the "other" category and why is it taking up so much space?

The "other" category on my iPod is taking up a considerable amount of space. I don't have very many apps, pictures, or videos because I want to preserve room for more music, but I can't seem to find a way to reduce the amount of memory that "other" takes up. Please help! Also, I would update to a newer system, but I don't have enough room.

Hi. I was just doing some basic stuff like masking and what not. and suddenly my system tells me i've used up all of my main drive's space (I had about 10GB free). I am curious as to what is taking up this space and how to I clear it. And also can i shift it to my other drive which has 700GB free.

You mean you have a miserly 10 GB of available drive space on your boot drive? ?? !
If that's what you're saying you are indeed in a heap of trouble! Those 10 GB will have to be shared by both the swap files of the OS and Photoshop scratch files. That is insane. Whenever any hard drive gets to be over 80% full, you are already in trouble.
The rule of thumb I follow to figure out scratch space for Photoshop alone says to figure on 50 to 100 times the size of your largest file ever multiplied by the number of files you have open. I have seen the Photoshop scratch file exceed 800 GB once, an admittedly rare occurrence, but it often exceeds 200 GB when stitching large panoramas and the like.
As an example—and stressing that I'm aware that others have even more scratch space than I do—I keep two dedicated, physically separate hard drives as my primary and secondary Photoshop scratch disks and a lot of GB free on my boot drive for the OS. I also have 16 GB of RAM installed and I'll be increasing it to 32 GB by the end of this year.
Additionally, if you only have a single HD, i.e. your boot drive, you'd need it to be large enough to accommodate both the swap files of the OS as well as Photoshop's scratch.

Why is Preview taking up so much space on my hard drive when saving changes to a PDF file?

I am working with a large PDF file (3.3GB) in Preview and am highlighting and adding notes to the contents. Every so often, Preview auto-saves the document, but while it's doing that it takes up a HUGE amount of space on my harddrive! Last time it tried, I went from having 4GB of space to 800MB and recieved a message saying I was almost out of disk space so I force closed the file. I am also pretty sure that I had closer to 15GB of space before I started using this file and since then it has dropped to only 3.3GB. Is there some sort of Preview cache? If so, how do I delete it?
I've tried searching my harddrive for large files and didn't find anything larger than 1GB that I didn't recognize.

Why is Lightroom taking up local disk space while publishing?

I have a relatively large photo catalog (200k photos +) that I am in the process of paring down with the help of Lightroom 5. Along the way I have kept certain groups of photos published to Flickr using Smart Photosets so that if I eliminate a duplicate photo from the catalog I will be able to "re-publish" and eliminate that duplicate from the published collection.
My Catalog Files, My Backups, and the actual image files that are referenced in the catalog are all located on an external drive. I did this so that I could have everything on one drive for the time being while I eliminate a ton of photos from the catalog.
The issue that I am running into is that while a collection is being published to Flickr I get a message popping up telling me that I am low on disk space on my local (C) drive and that I need to free up some space. This is odd because everything is located on the external drive (catalog and image files) and I am publishing to Flickr.
I am just trying to figure out if there is a default somewhere that is causing Lightroom to create new thumbnails or previews somewhere on my C drive while I am publishing images to Flickr or something like that. Any idea what sort of data might be accumulating in the process here? And is there anyway to move it all or eliminate it for the time being while I am finishing the elimination of duplicate files from my catalog?

Temp files created by Lightroom are cleaned up by Lightroom, or should be anyway.
Is your C: drive short of space? If so, that should definitely be remedied pronto.

It’s generally a combination of local caches from apps, browsers, mail, Messages, Reading List, saved games, app-specific documents and data, notes, and voice memos.
You can backup and restore to reduce "other" but they will start building up over time.

Why is my iMovie taking up so much space and how can I get my data back?

For some reason, unknown to me, my imovie app is taking up 6.5GB of my data. I have three, small (less than five minute) videos and I am wondering how to get rid of whatever is taking up so much space and what could possibly be filling up my ipad. It is strange because a four hour movie takes up only 3GB and fifteen minutes of video takes up over 6. Something is definitely not right. I just want to know how to get rid of whatever is taking up so much data while keeping my files in tact.

Had the same problem and read a few posts. Easiest fix is delete and reinstall imovie. Clears out all the data that imovie takes up by recreating temp files which you can't seem to delete when you upload videos to YouTube

Why is it taking so long to download and watch on apple tv 3gn

I'v bought an Apple tv and its been nothing but trouble. Iv purchased Downton Abbey series 3 three days ago and have only been able to watch one episode as its going to take hours to finish downloading. Why is this happening? Why does it take so long? I know people that download illegally and get it much faster. But this is not what has sparked my anger, this come when i have spent 3 hours downloading the third episode and my partner says she want to watch the last 15 minutes of the first episode, I couldn't believe it i had to download it again, this is not on and something need to be done with this. and before anyone asks Nothings wrong with our broadband we on the optic. I hope theirs an answer for this ridiculous technical problem.

Why is it taking so long to copy a folder?

I'm trying to copy my Aperture library to a different location on my computer to facilitate accessing it on another computer. The library size is 237GB. It's taking approximately five seconds per megabyte which, at this rate, will take approximately forever. All other programs are off. Why is it taking so long? I've never had thi sproblem (if it is a problem) when copying other folders.

You don't mention what the source and destination drives are, how they are hooked up or how much free space there is on the destination, all of which can affect copy speed.
However the Aperture library package always exhibits this behavior regardless of size. The initial estimate of time is astronomical but after a period of tie the copy speeds up and the estimate drops rapidly.
The library package is made up of a number of files and folders and there are numerous sqlite databases. I believe the (though I have no proof) that the sqlite databases are behind this.
As I said in most all cases once the initial phases is over the copy proceeds at a more normal pace.

On the iphone itself under settings, general, usage it indicates 12.7GB used and only 840MB available. I have one app (Audible) that is taking up 1.6GB, photos&camera take up 636MB, Spotify takes up 495MB, everything else takes up less less than 100MB each and totalling less than 2.5GB.
So if Audible is taking up 1.6GB and Spotify is taking up 636MB and all other apps take up 2.5GB this combined totals around 5GB. I have a 16GB iphone 4s.
16GB minus 5GB (my calculated usage) equals 11GB remaining. Allow for some required space utilization (let's say 3GB) and that leaves 8GB remaining. Why does my phone indicate 840MB available? That seems to equate to the amount shown in itunes that indicates 8GB of "other".
What is this 8GB of "other" that is taking up so much storage space on my iphone?

Other is usually around 1 GB...
A ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

In Shared services, Log Files taking lot of Disk space

I have a question. Its like the Logs in BI+ in Shared Service Server is taking lot of Disk space about 12 GB a day.
Following files are taking more space
Shared Service-Security-Client log ( 50 MB )
Server-message-usage Service.log ( About 7.5 GB )
why this is happening. Any suggestions to avoid this.
