  • Why is itunes taking so long to update 11.1.4?

Why is itunes taking so long updating the latest version of itunes 11.1.4 ?

I have this same exact issue, however only with music. It happens when files are added in anyway: dragged, automatically added, opened from safari.
I have Mountain Lion, a new MacBook Pro with Retina, and iTunes Match turned on. I have a feeling iTunes is trying to match/upload the songs first. I've just added 10 songs, iTunes said they were copied over but they don't show up in my library but I can see the cloud icon "working".
EDIT: That's not the reason, the songs finally showed up but they are still waiting to be matched.

Why is it taking so long to sync my music from my iTunes library to my iPod?

    Define "too long".

  • Why is Itunes taking so long to update Ipad Moives

Itunes is taking a long LONG time to update a simple 300 Mgb TV show from my Windows 7 Ultimate PC to my IPad? Both have the latest updates. It used to be easy and take a very short time.
Is Apple intentially making it hard to work with Windows in hopes of moving me to Apple products only?
This is very frustrating. I can't even make my Apple TV sync with my Windows computer on the same network.

  • Installed new itunes and no longer have any music files

when I installed the new itunes version, everything went well - no error messages and itunes definetly looks different....
but now I have no music files in my itunes when I open itunes....is there a step I missed?

Your iPod can only be synced with one computer at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, it will replace the contents of the iPod with whatever is in the new library. You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabling the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Before doing anything else,  authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials. Either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.
Then right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.

Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

If you do happen to lose any purchased content, you can always redownload it from the iTunes Store again at no cost via iCloud.  See this article for information.

  • Why does Itunes keep losing the location of music files?

Itunes will lose the location of the music files. they clearly listed under the right album and proper order but when you select a song a exclamation mark shows up and a window pops up asking me where it can be located. I don't know, Itunes lost it, I haven't done any maintenance work to the hard drive that I know of other than clean the registry on my firefox search engine.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
i may be able to give some more focused advice once there is a clearer picture of where things are.

  • Why is itunes taking so long to download

when i try to download itunes its taking very VERY long. it will start downloading at like 70kb/s and then very quickly go down to about 3 or 5 kb/s what could be wrong?

I am experiencing the same thing. All downloads from appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net are very slow. This includes iTunesSetup and Quicktime. I have been trying to download the new version of iTunes for a few days, but I get too impatient. 90 minutes for 57 meg isn't cool. I have no other issues with the internet only this site. FWIW my ISP is Verizon DSL in Southern California.

  • Why is it taking so long to transfer data. From one MacBook to another?

I'm transferring data from my old MacBook pro to a new mb pro. 68 hours? Wow why so slow. It is via my wifi but 68 hours. Any help will be appreciated
    Thanks

If it's slow WiFi and a lot of data then 68 hours may be right. But you haven't provided any information upon which to base an estimate.
Gigabit Ethernet might reach a practical transfer rate of around 420 MB/s or about the speed of a USB drive. High speed WiFi is 1/3 that fast at best. Slow WiFi is 1/10 that speed at best. So you can make a rough guess of time to transfer an amount of data.

  • Why is itunes taking so long to download movies

My internet connection appears to be working great, but the movies are taking far too long....7 hrs for a 1.1GB movie

I have noticed this on some TV episodes. Takes for ages and then suddenly speeds up. I think it must be at the Apple end because like you I have a fast internet connection. Guess we will just have to wait for Apple to fixit
Use feedback to report it to apple as apple do not read these pages.

  • Why is it taking so long to transfer 60 GB to a time capsule?

I purchased a 2 TB time capsule for primary use as an external hard drive. I am attempting to save a back up of my Macbook Pro mid 2012 to the time capsule via my Time Machine but it has been progressing at a snail's pace, stopped backing up and now cannot even calculate the time remaining to complete the procedure.
What am I doing wrong? How long should this procedure take?

Your transfer speed will be limited by the way you connect.
USB Ethernet adapters are usually limited by the USB spec - if the device is USB2 it has a maximum rate around 20-30 MegaBytes per second. This is much slower than Gigabit ethernet (1000base-X) so these devices are using the 'Fast Ethernet' spec (100base-T) which is more like 4-6 MB/s, it's probably in 'duplex' mode so you may have that rate in 2 directions.
If you have a Gigabit ethernet to USB adaptor that will make it quicker but it will need to use a USB3 port. Gigabit Ethernet is more like 50-60 MB/s.
I think Apple use Thunderbolt instead of USB3 for their Gigabit Ethernet adaptors.
Wifi rates also vary widely, 802.11.n or 802.11.ac can be faster than the USB adaptor, but if you have poor signal or high levels of interference that can drop considerably.
Wikipedia has a ton of info on the rates of different types of connections (bear in mind the rates are usually the max theoretical rate).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_device_bit_rates
The only real way to tell what is fastest is to time some file transfers, or use benchmarking apps.
To be honest you really need to let TM do it's thing for the first backup or decide to abandon the backup until you can test what the fastest method is.

  • Why is iTunes taking so long to add files?

I am having a couple of problems with my iTunes on my new MacBook Pro. When I add items to the folder 'Automatically add to iTunes', they take a long time to appear in my library, this is happening for everything including movies, TV shows, and music.
Also, when I add items to my library, either from the folder mentioned above, or by inserting a CD and ripping it into iTunes, it sometimes says 'Unknown Album' and no artist (or the wrong artist). Even if it has correctly identified the tracks before they were imported.
If I press ⌘ + I to edit the info, all of the correct information is there, but it just won't show it in my library.
If it makes any differece, my MacBook Pro was purchased about 3 days before Mountain Lion came out, so it shipped with Lion and then I updated to Mountain Lion. I also have iTunes Match enabled.
    Thank you,
    Sam.

  • Why is itunes taking so long to download on my computer?

I wanted to upate my itunes and it was taking forever and making my computer slow.

Could be something with your internet connection.  Other than that, with everyone trying to download ios7 at the same time can cause delays.

  • Why would iTunes (10.6.3) change my music files?

This isn't the first time I've had this problem.  I have 79,042 songs in iTunes library.  Every once in a while, I play a track that I've played many times before, only to discover that the music coming from the file is not longer what it was supposed to be.  For example, I have a George Harrison album taken from a CD.  I listen to it regularly.  Minutes ago, I played some of the tracks and found MOST of them had become YES tracks, which are also on my external hard drive (where I keep all of my iTunes).  In fact, each time this has occured, the file changes to a YES track ???  When I locate the original George Harrison file on the drive, it still has the title from the George Harrison album, but a quick check shows that the music coming from the file is no longer George, even though the track length is the same, etc.  Even the album art is the same.
    iMac 10.7.4
    iTunes 10.6.3
Could it be related to the external drive?

    Limnos, thanks for the reply.
These are movies I've ripped from my DVDs and imported into iTunes to be able to watch them on my TV via AirPlay. They are not purchases from Apple. Since Mountain Lion is supposed to allow using AirPlay from other Apps, I may have to use another App to manage and play movies after the OS upgrade.
On the other hand, if I could get credit for owned DVDs with the iTunes store, without having to rip them myself, AND not have to keep every one of them stored locally, it would be very nice.

If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Check your internet speeds just in case >  Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Try not using other applications that require downloading files while downloading media from iTunes.

I subscribed two weeks back and on the iTunes site Step 1 gathering data is still going on. Why is it taking so long?

I was also having this problem after having successfully used iTunes Match previously. The problem appears to be when there are two version of songs and one of them has the iCloud icon made using a dotted line. Here's what solved it for me:
    1. Identify your duplicate files. I have a large library, so I elected to use Dupin Light (available on the Mac App store). I suppose I could have used iTunes duplicate finder too, but I prefer the flexibility of Dupin.
    2. Once you have identified your duplicates, find them in iTunes. In my case Dupin identifed 50, from 19,000+ tracks, so for me it was not a large number to check manually.
    3. When you find the duplicates, if one of them has the aforementioned dotted line iCloud icon, this is the one you need to delete. If you accidently delete the other version, you can always download it again if you have purchased it from iTunes. In any case, it seems to be the tracks with this icon that it is causing iTunes Match to stall, so you will need to delete all of these.
    4. Once you have completed step 3, iTunes Match should not proceed and complete.
