  • Finder doesn't show recent pictures anymore

My finder does not show pictures anymore that are imported in iTunes in the last months. What to do? This problem started some weeks ago.

Does iPhoto show them? If so, right click on a photo and select 'Show File'. This will open a finder window with the file highlighted.
If you want to access a file Drag and drop it to the Desktop, this will create a copy of the file there. Or you can use File -> Export, which will also create a copy.
Remember, iPhoto is a database, and like all databases is designed so that you access the data - in this case your pictures - via the application, not through the Finder.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder in v6:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
Inside each of these folders there will be rolls arranged based on date.
If iPhoto doesn't show them, then they have not been successfully imported.
Hope this helps. If it doesn't. I suggest that you try the iPhoto Forum.

  • Why when I scan it doesn't import because file already exists, i never scanned it before?

Why when I scan anything in my Photoshop Elements 8, it tells me that nothing was imported because a file already exists.  I never scanned this photo before?? Please help!

It could be a file name duplication.  Either the scanner creates some default file name, which it may have used before or you have assigned a duplicate file name.  Try renaming and see if the Organizer imports it.

  • Why won't final cut pro x import my media anymore?

I recently encountered a bug with final cut pro x. Previously I have been importing AVCHD files and working with them directly in the application. But, today as I went to import some more of the same footage it acknowledges an import, but nothing shows up in my events folders.
This is really bizarre. Not only this, but I tried importing a regular .MOV file directly by drag and drop, and via the import button, to no avail.

I never knew that "/" were part of the Unix code. Thanks for that. As for importing AVCHD video through the application by Cmd-I, I have done that as well. It still doesn't work.
    Here is what I've done:
And nothing shows up in the event folder.

  • FM doesn't import AutoCAD DWG anymore

May be that updates, or FM11 installation can be a matter, but I can't import anymore any AutoCAD .DWG file in any version of FrameMaker. Until about 2 month ago I imported AutoCAD .DWG files, in FM10 for a client that uses a lot of .dwg files.
Now a new job, with the same client, came, but I can't import .dwg files... in any version of FM I have installed (from 7 to 11): they give me the same error:
"The filter encoutered an error and could not complete the translation."
Even the "old" .dwg I imported 2 months ago don't work anymore.
The things I do in the meantime with may PC are installing FM11 and updating vairous Adobe software I have on it.
    Any idea?
(oh, yes, in the mean time I survived printing the .dwg on pdf files and importing them, but it's not the same...)

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
are you able to view the photos in full size in the library?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

I have Lightroom 4 and a new 70D camera and when I try to important my photos Lightroom says it doesn't recognize my CR2 files.  Can someone help?  I have downloaded 8.3 from Adobe, but still doesn't work?

Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. All of the Camera Raw technology is part of the Lightroom program. You will either have to upgrade to Lightroom 5 or use the DNG converter to create digital negative copies that can be used with Lightroom 4.

  • Why does lightroom 2.7 keep making me import a folder?

Every time I sync my Nikon Transfer folder to import my new pictures that I just loaded from my camera, a folder that I have already imported is included in the import. This folder and its contents are already in there. And lightroom agrees by telling me that it didn't import that folder because it already exsists. Why does lightroom try to import that folder in the first place?

    Beat,
I'm not sure what you mean by that. I thought the folders viewed in Explorer and in Lightroom were one and the same. I think I see what you are getting at though. Perhaps if you were to change the name via Lightroom, the metadata gets changed in a way that causes Lightroom to think it needs to re-import. I don't change the names from the auto-generated sub folder that Nikon Transfer creates - which is the date and time using all numerals.
I think I am just going to copy this sub folder to somewhere else, delete the original, re-import it and see what happens.  I will might lose all my raw edits in the process, but I have already delivered the finished jpegs to my client.

  • LR5: Why can't I import my pictures again after having them used for editing in Lightroom?

    Hi!
A week ago I was editing 800 pictures of my last holidays in Lightroom 5.2. After having them exported I noticed that I didn't check the quality settings for export, so I wanted to import the original files again.
And that's where I'm having issues right now. I can't open them anymore. Though they are all availabe, they are shaded in grey and are not selectable:
Going back to the original holidays folder, it strikes me that it's only possible to import such pictures which I haven't picked to edit in Lightroom before:
I tested other original files of pictures I already edited in Lightroom and they work. It's only about these holiday pictures. The exported, edited holiday pictures appear in Lightroom for importing. It seems like Lightroom has problems with the original files which has been imported to Lightroom once. An Update to LR 5.6 didn't help. Has anyone any idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks
    Patrick

You don't re-import photos in Lightroom. There is no need to do so and this only would cause problems.
Instead, for those photos that you cannot import, you simply find them in the Library Module, and continue to use them (if you want to export them again at different settings, then you export from the existing photo in the Library module)

  • Why is Lightroom 2.4 Thumbnail Rendering SLOOOOOOOOW...?

For some reason Lightroom 2.4 is taking an enormous amount of time to render thumbnail previews and in spite of having my thumbnail cache set to 50 GB, it still re-renders the thumbnails every single time I use the scroll bar.
Every other aspect of Lightroom performs just fine on my machine.  But the library is so slow that it is unusable.  Every time I touch the scroll bar I can see a somewhat darker preview of the thumbnails and then as soon as I stop scrolling, the CPU shoots up to 100% utilization and I watch as the thumbnails brighten and adjust one by one.  30 to 45 seconds later I can click on the thumbnails and navigate around just fine.  Performance is great in fact until I touch the scroll bar again.
The basic question is this.  Why does Lightroom refuse to cache my thumbnails?  And why does it take soooo long to render them when Vista's explorer can render hundreds of thumbnails off even a flash card in seconds?  Even if thumbnail rendering was slow it would be fine if Lightroom would only cache them for me so it doesn't have to redo it every time I scroll back and forth.  Shouldn't there be an option to render thumbnails on import as well as 1:1 previews?
I am running Vista 64 bit with 4GB of RAM with a Gforce 7600GT graphics card.  My library has about 18,000 images in it.  But I've also tried with a brand new small catalog.  I'm shooting and processing Nikon D300 RAW files.
I've done all the standard performance tweaks that everyone talks about:
    1.  I render 1:1 previews and never expire them.
    2.  I have tried all the various nvidia card tweaks.
    3.  I've updated to the latest and greatest nvidia drivers.
    4.  I have my catalog on a separate drive from my images, and my thumbnail cache on yet a 3rd drive.
    5.  My machine has plenty of RAM, and in fact Lightroom is only using 1.5GB leaving me with well over 1GB remaining.
    6.  My machine is not swapping at all.
I've been reading and reading for the past 24 hours about this issue but have yet to come up with an answer to it.  I did find this old thread from over a year ago that describes the EXACT same problem I am experiencing except his problem was with version 2.3:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/1395391#1395391
Does anyone have ANY idea what can be causing this?  As is, I can't use Lightroom under these conditions.
    Thanks!

So I spent all evening experimenting with different things in Lightroom to try and improve performance and found 1 solution that worked.  Although I'm not sure why.
I understand that a design decision was made to render thumbs on the fly.  Fine.  But what I couldn't understand was why it took so incredibly long.  I mean the process was literally locking up my entire machine every time I touched the scroll bar.
The ONLY thing I could get to clear up the problem was to select the top level folder in my catalog, and export the entire catalog as a new catalog.  For export I did NOT choose to export the image files or the previews since I only wanted to keep my database (image adjustments, keywords, etc).
Upon opening this newly created catalog, of course everything was slow because there are no previews for anything.  Fine.  So I chose to render standard sized previews for a couple of the folders in the catalog (about 150 photos each).  And then lightroom became extremely fast for browsing and scrolling through thumbnails on those particular folders.
What I can't undertand is why rendering standard sized previews on my old catalog (same photos, same folder) does not improve performance, yet doing it for the new catalog which should be an exact copy DOES improve performance.
The only thing I can think of is that my original catalog must have either been corrupt or there may be some upper limit on how many previews Lightroom can handle gracefully?  Since I had standard previews for my entire catalog before.
I'm going to try and render standard sized previews on my entire new catalog tonight and see if the performance remains snappy.  But something is definitely not right here.

  • Lightroom Star Rating Loss on Import

    Hello everyone!
Longtime LR user, new to the forums and looking for a bit of insight.
When shooting on deadline, I start my workflow by running my images  through Photo Mechanic where I star rate, caption and FTP a few.  Afterwards I typically head home and then import my images into LR for  further processing and cataloging.
What I've discovered is that I will occasionally lose the star  rating on about 65% - 75% of those images if I begin to evaluate the  them immediately after they've been imported.
(Typically importing between 1000 - 3000 RAW images with "Minimal" previews.)
(Evaluate by showing larger previews or asking to just see starred images.)
This problem does not occur if I give LR about 7 to 10 minutes after I've imported the images  and then ask to see only star rated images. When I give it that extra  time after import, my star ratings will invariably show up every time  without problem.
I have taken note of the fact that even when selecting "Minimal"  previews LR will still "process" the files as I can see their color  shifting photo after photo within grid mode as I sit in front of my  computer. It is my presumption that it is during this time that LR is  evaluating the XMP info and adding that info to the catalog. I presume  this because it seems that after LR has completed this process all of my  star rated images will show up.
If this is in fact what is happening, part of my problem is there is  no way for me to determine when LR is done with this initial  "processing". This is because it seems LR begins "processing" whichever  images are currently being displayed. I know this because as I scroll  down the grid of images I see the color shift to begin on the frames  that I've just scrolled to. Consequently I have no way of determining  when this initial "processing" is done other than to give LR 7 - 10  minutes.
I should also mention that I have on occasion quit LR, reopened  the folder containing my images in Photo Mechanic and all of the star  ratings show up as they should. I have then quit Photo Mechanic,  restarted LR selected all the images and then prompted it to "Read  Metadata from File" but it still does not adapt the star rating that is  associated with each image.
The only way for me to fix this issue is by removing the folder  containing the errored images, re-import it into LR, give LR 7 - 10  minutes to "process" it's contents, and hope that when I do go to look  at only starred images it will have completed it's initial processing to  reveal all of those images that have been star rated.
Re-reading this I see that it's a mouthful but do hope that you might be able to answer these questions:
    1. Is it this "processing" that I'm waiting for Lightroom to complete upon initial in import?
    2. Is there a way for me to tell when that "processing" is complete?
    3. Why doesn't forcing LR to "Read Metadata from File" overcome this problem?
Currently running LR 3.4.1 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8.

    Hi Bill
The new people icons in PSE11 & PSE12 are not the same as keywords. You could use them as the basis to add keywords (names) in PSE and perhaps write metadata to files. Then start over in Lightroom:
    File >>New Catalog
Choose a new catalog name and save.
When the empty Lightroom catalog opens - try the import from PSE again.

  • Aperture plugin copies previews, doesn't import or stack

    Has anyone tried the option:
"For images which have been adjusted in Aperture, import full size previews from the Aperture Library (if they are available and up-to-date)."
         …and subsequently selecting…
"For Referenced images left in their original location, place version previews in the same folder as the master image to allow for automatic stacking"
When selecting these option, the plugin copies the master files into a hierarchy in finder, organized by date.  Indeed, it does copy JPEG previews, if available.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but it doesn't import these JPEG files into the Lightroom catalog, nor does it automatically stack the preview with the master file.   The Aperture preview files end in _Aperture_preview.jpg.  Or in other words, a preview for IMG_2924.CR2 would read IMG_2924_Aperture_preview.jpg

Good question, but difficult to answer.  Yes.  I completed a 40,000 image import with all options checked.
A couple of things though.  The plugin will leave any "referenced" files where they are and copy any "managed" master files in your Aperture library to the location you specify.  Previews will be copied to the corresponding old "referenced" master file location, or the new Lightroom location, depending on the source.
Only files with generated previews will be copied to Lightroom.  I also saw several errors about previews being "skipped" because they were "not up-to-date".  Could be that the preview just does not exist, or that it could not cope with the size of the preview.  Just don't know, because Aperture does not make this easy to know what you do and do not have previews for.  I strongly suggest you make a conscious decision to delete previews you do not want (makes the result messy), and create appropriate sized previews for what you do want to keep.    So I'd suggest you delete previews, then generate them for all that you need, based on filters.  Strongly suggest creating full-resolution previews.  You only get one shot, so why not have a full-sized preview.
And it does stack photos with previews.  Remember, Lightroom will not stack Aperture stacks.  Will only create keywords for them, if the option was chosen, but you can stack them later.  Did not have the presence of mind to keyword all my photos that did or did not have previews, so I wasn't able to get a good idea of how accurate the plugin was in stacking previews.  Suggest you keyword photos you create previews for so you have some method of validating the conversion afterward, or need to compare output from the error log.
Lightroom DOES NOT allow the use of stacks in the "collections" view.  <sigh>  So make sure you're using the "catalog" view.
