Why is Logic not drawing waveforms?

Logic suddenly stopped drawing waveforms. Only using "refresh overviews" or merging 2 samples will show the waveforms. Any way to fix this? I've tried "verify and repair permissions", no help.

That was the old fix, until it was discovered that the important thing being reset is the "recording delay." People accidentally bump that slider all the time, and if it gets set to too large an amount you get the problem you describe. Setting the "recording delay" to zero eliminates the need to reset all preferences, so others should try that first.

I select the Rectangle tool, and my cursor changes to a crosshair just as it should. Yet, when I click the canvas to draw, the cursor/tool immediatly changes to the Pan hand! I must have something somewhere set wrong, but I can't find it. Any ideas what's up?

It's not just the rectangle, it is almost every tool.
Select, Transform 3D, Rectangle, Bezier, and Paint tool all change to Teh Pan hand when I click on the canvas. Oddly, the Text tool is the only one that works properly.

ok, so far I have not been able to connect to my NAS box but now I can't run Logic Pro 9? It's Apples own *@%%!! application? What, so the team responsible for testing that bit were on holiday were they?

I am running the latest version 10.0.5 through a Macbook Pro that has just been upgraded to 16GB Ram and a 960GB SSD which has made it as fast as ****. I upgraded because I was experiencing problems before and it was suggested that I didn't have enough Ram?
I am using a Focusrite scarlett 2i4 and an Alesis Q61 midi controller. Weirdly, just trying to put a bass line down on a track using the Alesis, the bass sound goes out of tune with the track during recording only. This is very frustrating! I surely can't be the only one experiencing this?

Time lost could be a problem, but.....
Sadly, I don't think that there are any Apple docs relating to networked storgae issues with Logic. Other than a 'school' or 'business' setup, NAS/OD/AD setups are not usual circumstances for audio.
If the issue is one of data backup & security, it may be enough to automatically backup the students local work folders to the NAS.
If the issue is one of the Users being able to work from any Mac and pick up their files from the server, you are not likely to resolve this problem, without copying the files to the Local Mac.

Insertion of APDivs/Layers are deprecated in CC. Historically, APDivs caused many, many problems for people who didn't understand they were not intended to be used as a primary layout tool. Look at FluidGrid Layouts.

Audio waveform does not draw

Since upgrading to CC 2014 we have been experiencing a few issues. One such issue is audio waveforms not drawing. We have this issue on 5 different machines.
When opening a project the audio waveforms of 1 or more clips does not draw. This seems to be random. An example: I finish editing for the day. Save the project. Shut down the mac. Come in the next day, turn on Mac, launch PP, open project. At this point some audio waveforms may draw, some may not.
I've done a bit of exploration and it seems that PP is having trouble reading the .pek files. If I shut down and delete the .pek files and then relaunch – PP regenerates the .pek files and the audio waveform draws again.
Anyone else having this issue?

I don't know if it is related but I know there is an issue with CC 2014 resetting the preview file location to default on some projects.

<sql:param value="${userid}" />I would recommend you not to do database connectivity stuff in JSP, JSPs are the view layer of an application and they aren't supposed to be for doing business logic. Also since you are using a random userid, you might end up with multiple users with the same ID and IDs are generally supposed to be unique...

Reader OLE server does not draw PDF-document if paper size is too big

If PDF document paper size is for example A0 (841 x 1189 mm) OLE object can be created and application shows PDF content correctly. But if application saves it's document and reopens it Reader does not draw content of embedded PDF document any more. Decreasing PDF document size to A1 solves the problem. Embedded object is not corrupted because it is possible to open it to Reader.
I'm confused why Acrobat Reader OLE server is capable of drawing PDF file content in creation phase but not later on when application opens same file containing embedded PDF objects.
"Application" means all possible application that has OLE support. I have tried this with three different applications and the behavior is same with all applications. Because of this I assume that application I'm developing does not have bug.

The scanner works with a Windows computer, which proves the device is functional at a cursory level. The drivers are now distributed by Apple and this is an Apple computer. There is no scanning software provided by HP. HP's answer is that Mountain Lion takes care of all of this. I anticipate that some setting or driver was somehow tweaked since the scanner had been working with Mountain Lion until a few days ago. The device in question is an Apple product. So, I'm pretty confident that I'm in the right place.

Why is Oracle Not Also Entering the Tablet Market

I have never heard or seen a debate on this subject:
I know that the vision of Java is cross platform but I have a very interesting question. Correct my being naive, if I am wrong.
WHY? (Question), cant Oracle also roll out their tablets that can run Java/JavaFX applications natively. I guess Oracle can join the competition in this area before its too late. Its not too late for Oracle to start a tablet product along that line in their hardware section. They should not just leave that industry to Google,Apple, RIM and Microsoft (none of these guys advance core Oracle consumer tech in their consumer hardware). Even by the volume of java developers in the world, an oracle tablet product that can run java/javafx natively is bound to succeed. I believe all the beautiful things that can be done with JavaFX will be a waste if it does not find itself in tablets asap.
I really suggest that Oracle should look into this. Africa for instance is a HUGE market for tablet and mobile innovation. Several millions aggressive, compulsive buyers of mobile technology!
Is it that oracle does not see tablets as a huge future market? oracle also has a solid cloud plan. The last time I checked, there is no tablet in the market running java/javafx natively except android which is a Google thing. I just want to know why this will not be a logical choice for oracle.
I will really want to know what the java community/oracle thinks about this.

If Sun had been successful at the platform market then Oracle wouldn't have been able to buy them.
I suspect consuming Sun has been a significant management task as well. Swift changes in direction are probably not possible and as far as I know Oracle doesn't make swift changes anyways.

Its likely to be caused by Ozone5.. many people have reported that plugin is currently quite unstable and are awaiting updates from izotope to fix the problem... No ETA has been given by izotope for the fix however...
Also several of your plugins are out of date (Zebra2, Clariphonic, Ozone itself.. to name but a few,)
Finally, you are running an older version of Logic Pro X (10.0.3)...and I would normally suggest you update to the latest version but... if you have a USB2 audio interface do not update to 10.0.5 at this time.... unless you know it will work correctly with the new version of LPX.

Why is Logic so Unstable?

After working on a track for the best part of the morning, Logic decided to crash on me again...
I had saved my work, but there are a few things I have lost.
My question is this.. Why is logic so unstable? I have used logic since 1999 and never have I experienced it to be this bad.
I get random crashes with Logic Pro but with no other Apple app.. Final Cut and others work like a dream on my machines.
Logic can crash at any point it wants and I can never replicate the crash or figure out why.. I always keep my system tidy, repairing permissions on installs, Onyx, Disk warrior all the time. I have completely erased and installed my Mac HD writing Zeros to it and still get these problems.
I have third party plugs like RMX, Ivory, IK Philharmonik, and others, but all with reputable companys who have all released regular updates that work with all versions of the present Tiger OS. I have also tried running Logic with no third Party plugs, and still get random crashes.. but who would want to as the factory sounds are not as good as my third part plugs.
Many people say it is third party plugs that cause instabillity, which if it is the case, is even worse on Apple's part as no other DAW I use (with all same plugs) crashes like this....period.
DP, Pro tools, they all work great.. Trouble is I know logic to well to switch to another DAW mid project.. Besides, why shouldnt we be able to use third party software with Logic if other apps handle them perfectly??
Does anbody else have similar experiences or find that Logic Pro seems to be overlooked and way under-developed in terms of its basic stability?
I know that WWDC is coming up, but to me, even if they do release something that will be the killer app, I feel that the way they have treated their Pro customers in not developing Logic Pro sooner and quicker is a swift reminder that Apple is far more concerned with other things and not its professional and loyal music making customers? (Garage band users not included!!haha)

OK, I see you've given her the ol' "this is going to feel cold and intrusive". Do I take it to mean that you re-installed the OS from the factory disks as well?
Also, might be time for a firmware refresh.
Regarding doing Onyx/Disk Warrior "all the time"? I'd suggest that you don't make this a regular practice (I know some people will have my head for saying that). But the reason I say this is that I actually find that Logic feels particularly unwieldy after doing a full Onyx run-through. It takes a couple of Logic crashes before it all sorts itself back out.

Newbie question: Why am I not hearing audio?

I'll admit it, I'm a total noob when it comes to After Effects. This is the very first project I've ever attempted in AE. But I've watched a bunch of (Lynda.com and VideoCoPilot.net) tutorials and I think I know most of the rudimentary stuff I'll need to know in order to do what I'm hoping to achieve (fairly simple stuff) in this first project.
But naturally, as soon as I get started, I run into a major roadblock. The first asset I've imported into the project is an audio file (.wav). I drag it on to the canvas and it shows up in the timeline, as expected. Yet when I play the timeline, I hear nothing. My audio is turned on (not muted) on the computer. In fact, when I go to import the file, I'm able to play it in the import window (I'm on a Mac, so I get the little preview in the Finder window that comes up as part of the Import dialog box, and I can play it from there.). But once it's imported into the project, nothing.
I checked to make sure the track wasn't muted (it's not) and that some other track isn't solo'd (there are no other tracks yet). I even expand the track to reveal the waveforms (left and right), and sure enough, they're there. I should be hearing sound when I hit the spacebar and the play head starts moving down the track. But no, I hear nothing.
So why can I not hear this file? There's nothing showing up in the VU meters in the upper right side of the interface either.
The animation I'm going to build will be built to go along with this audio track, so I really need to hear it in order to build the animation.
This is probably the simplest thing, but I'm stuck before I even get a step into this project.
HELP!!!! :-)

Why do we not get logging output for the clients?

Q: Why do we not get logging output like #show log all | include <client mac address> for the wireless clients?
A: When the clients connected to Bridge mode SSID, Firewall hits and logging does not work.
This is one of the limitations with bridge mode.

Why can't I draw over imported images?

If someone could explain to me (in simple terms-I've only been using flash since friday and I don't know the names ofthings properly yet) why I can't draw over impoted images? I've animated something on paper and scanned in the frames. When I import them to flash it either deletes the line as soon as I draw it, or if I create a new layer the drawing stays in all frames, not just one. Pllllllease help, I'm desperate!

When you create a new layer, you can use keyframes to display the image in just one frame. Add a keyframe just after the frame where the image should not be displayed. So rightclick in that frame, and click add keyframe. Then in the new keyframe you can remove the image.
I believe you can use Flash to convert bitmap images to vector images, but I haven't used that function since Flash 2, so I don't know if that still exists. The result might be useless though if the images is too complex. But if it's okay, then you can edit the image itself. Otherwise draw on a layer on top of the image.

I do not understand why LR would not auto look at my primary...

Why would LR not auto look at my primary folder and not update it's DB with any new folders I might have created outside of LR?
This makes my work flow far more difficult.
In this respect "Bridge" does a far better job.

Bridge doesn't use a database or need importing. Nor can Bridge let you view or edit metadata for offline images. The logic is simple. You must import into a database.
In order to do what you want you have 2 options, 1) Have Lightroom constantly waste cpu cycles looking at the drive (and I do mean constantly) or 2) Set up a way of having Lightroom import all new folders when you click (probably right click) on the folder.
Mark Hamburg has already mooted the first because it would really slow Lightroom down. The second seems like a viable option to me.
