Why is Mac's Internet Connection SO BAD ?!

Since i bought my MacBook Pro years ago its wireless connection has always been awful. I can only connect from a specific spot upstairs (the routers downstairs) - i will literally have to stand in a spot near the door.
It's even worse when someone else in the house connects online through wireless. They have never had a problem connecting to the internet with their laptops ...!! The minute they're online my internet will stop working and I will need to drag my MacBook right next to the router just to connect. It's really frustrating and means i forever have to stop working .. !! Any suggestions why this keeps happening and what i can do ?

  • How do i use my iMac and the macs wired internet connection to share the internet with my iPod and iPhone

How do i use my iMac and the macs wired internet connection to share the internet with my iPod and iPhone. For 6months I had set up a network that shared the internet through bluetooth to my iPod 5th gen but i messed it up when i tried to add my iPhone 5s and i can't remember how to do it.

The following has instructions: OS X Mavericks: Share your Internet connection

  • My iPod is up to a 4.1 ios, and it won't update to a 5.1 which I need for some of my apps for school. It keeps saying that my internet connection is bad; but, it works just fine. What do I need to do?

If you get a network timeout error, then disabling the computer's security software duirng the download and update usually resovles that error.
If that is not the error what is the wording of the error message.
Note that only a 3G or 4G iPod can go to iOS 5.  A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Mac, PC, Internet connections, etc... I may be in the wrong place...

Does anyone have an awful time maintaining their internet connection? Please direct me to another forum if there is one on this topic. My settings with Verizon, my ISP, are to the letter.
I need to run Network Diagnostics 6-8 times an hour (sometimes more) in order to reestablish my internet connection. This never happened when I was using a Windows based product.
I thought that it might be the fact that I have a Mac and my husband has a PC, and that maybe there was some peculiar compatibility thing happening, but unfortunately it happens when he is not even here. I'm not eager to call a "geek squad" because I've hear they've done more harm than good.
Has anyone else experienced this? The Genius Bar guy couldn't help me, and my settings with Verizon are what is expected.
    Thanks for any help...
    Best,
    Sheila

The router (if you have one) is the box connected to the modem, which is connected to the internet line-in.
This is the basic setup: Internet connection (like a cable line) -> Modem -> Router -> Computer
If it's only going to one computer, though, you may have something like this: Internet Connection -> Modem -> Computer.
Your problem is almost certainly hardware. Make sure all cords are plugged in (or screwed in, as the case may be) tightly and securely. Check to see if any of them look frayed or blackened at all (which would indicate they aren't working properly). Also, try resetting the connection by unplugging modem (and router if applicable).
The modem will be directly connected to your internet connection. The router will be connected to the modem. The router most likely also has things connected to it (computers, wireless base, or both) unless it is a wireless router.
It's hard to diagnose without being able to see it, but it sounds like a hardware issue.

  • Two Macs one internet connection only one will connect

I'm trying to connect a Powerbook (via Aiport ) and a Mac Pro (via Ethernet - I also have a Airport option) to the internet at the same time.
The Mac Pro will connect (using either option) but the Powerbook is recieving a full signal but 'cannot connect to the server'
I'm assuming it may be a sharing problem but I'm now confused!?! - sorry..

  • Why has my iMac Internet Connect disappeared?

After several years of regular internet and e-mail activity, a recent attempt to connect resulted in a dialog box saying: 'Internet Connect - The selected communication device does not exist. Please verify your settings and try again'. I never touch my settings!
My situation is not helped by being a long way from the telephone exchange - consequently I can only receive a very slow bps and frequent disconnects. Could it be that my lack of up-to-date iMac Firmware is causing this problem?
I have taken my work laptop, an iBook G4, home, and plugged it in to the network - it connects OK, so the problem resides with the iMac. As it takes so long to download updates, is it possible to download them at work and transfer them to my home iMac via a memory stick?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I just reread your original post. It's possible your internal modem has died. 'Yikes! 'Hope it hasn't. Does it dial and try to connect? Have you tried reselecting it in the network CP? Have you run "Repair Permissions" in the Disk Utility application?
Your firmware version should be 4.1.9f1.
Yes, transfering update downloads on a thumb-drive would work fine.
Yea, all computers are great when they work, and a pain when they don't!

  • Why the super slow internet connection on my MBP?

This falls into the category of FYI, or FWIW. I'm going to answer my question for the good of the community,
I suddenly noticed a significant reduction in my internet connection at home on my MacBookPro. According to speakeasy.net/speedtest I was getting over 11 Mbps down and 1.5 up before then suddenly I was down to 1 Mbps downloads and .25 uploads. I tried 3 browsers and an scp transfer via the terminal from my web server and all with the same results.
However, the mystery deepened when I tested other computers in the house and they were getting the original 11 Mbps. So, I took my computer downstairs next to the router and also got the original 11 Mbps. So, I went back upstairs, but instead of plugging in my old 23" Cinema display, I tested without. You know what happened, right? Yup, 11 Mbps. Plugged in the Cinema display and back down to 1 Mbps.
I have no idea what is going on, other something in the Cinema display is interferring with my wireless connection.

  • PC user switching to Mac Pro - Internet connection/Mail questions

    Hello:
I am a long time PC user that is going to switch to the Mac Pro. I have two questions relating to the Internet/Mail.
    (1) On my PC, I have an ADSL modem to connect to the internet. Can I plug that directly into my Mac Pro's Gigabit Ethernet port, or do I need other Apple Hardware? I have no interest in going wireless.
    (2) If/When Parallels is working for the Mac Pro, can I use Apple Mail, then attach files from Windows Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc) via Parallels. I want to migrate to Apple products, but at this time, I still need my Office products.
thanks in advance for helping this Mac newbie.

    Welcom to the Apple Forums!
If your modem has a ethernet connection, then you can
connect it with a cable to the Gigabit networkport on
your Mac. Just like the same as Windows.
Whit parallels workstation is it possible to acces
the Mac disk. So, you can save from windows on your
macdisk. And then, you can acces it with mail.
You said: _from Windows Office products (Word,
    Excel, Visio, etc) via __
Remember, there are also office products for the Mac.
When you are using Parallels to run Windows, it is
not possible to acces de Windows HD from Apple. So if
you want to share files betwee Windows and Mac, you
have to do ut from windows. Windows can read/write
    the Mac disk.
You can set up a share folder with Parallels between Mac and the PC side which is what i do. Maybe work on something on XP than put back in the share folder than see it on the other side . But seeing externals and such from the PC side i can't seee them but the share folder does work. I switch my office to the mac side and it works fine and use Entourage as my mail client, looks and smells like outlook

  • Mac Mini Internet Connection Issues

In recent weeks the success of my Mac Mini being able to access the Internet and my home network is abissmal.
I have intermittant forced access at best, I have power cycled my router and modem from Time Warner. I have tested both WIFI and Eithernet to no avail
When I use the diagnostics it shows it is not connected, then it will repair connect and when I switch a page in my browser or go to use Skype, BOOM lost connection.  This is occuring on both WI FI and Ethernet.
I have read in MAC Forums and on Google that other's have had similar issue.
    Info I can add
    LinkSys Wireless G router
Also have a WII console an iPhone and Android phone and MacBookPro sharing this connection.
It is nly in the last few weeks it has presented any troubles. I have done a spyware/malware virus check bought MacKeeper cleaned up all files. Short fo taking it in for service (I have only had it since early December)
Is in a router DNS issue, a MAC Mini Issue, a network issue. I am thinking I should have saved more cash and got an iMac.
    Thanks

Have you tried changing channels on your Router?
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...

    208.67.220.220

Might add the IP of your Router to DNS also.

  • Why do I lose internet connection when I put airport extreme into bridge mode to correct Double NAT issue

I reset my airport extreme router the other day because I was too lazy to reset the password on my private network.
I have been reading the advice found on apple support communities and wide web, but the solutions do not solve any problems and often create new ones.
I'm regretting because everything was working just fine.
But I remember having this double nat error when I first set it up a few months back, but now I cannot resolve it.
I would live with the yellow light, but it seems that this double nat error is preventing my playstation 3 from connecting to the airport extreme.
When I put the aiport extreme into bridge mode, I loose all my wireless networks, even when I reboot the airport extreme and the modem.
I try rebooting the modem, then the airport. and vice versa. No internet.
I switch back to NAT/DCHP and the internet works fine on apple devices, but not the playstation 3, and I have the 1 Double NAT error.
I have a plain stock Motorolla modem and I can dial in and see settings (although nothing about NAT). I didn't see where to see them.
I tried setting the DHCP only but it said it didn't like the settings. is there a stock range i could be using?

I have a plain stock Motorolla modem and I can dial in and see settings (although nothing about NAT). I didn't see where to see them.
Exact model .. motorola make adsl, cable and probably wireless modems.. with some modems and some modem router.. we need exact info. What kind of broadband do you have?
I would note.. some of the motorola cable modems seem to have issues with the apple routers. If you are about due to change modems.. now is a good time.. not another motorola.
If the modem is a straight cable modem, the AE must be in router mode.. but you need to power down the cable modem. maybe for 20min so the new router can pick up the IP address.
You cannot use DHCP alone.. the ISP do not give you a block of IP addresses.
You cannot use bridge with a pure modem.. you will find it works.. but only to one device.
The only reason you get double NAT is the failure to pick up the public IP.
    Give the info required..
If you have trouble, I need the actual IP of the modem. the actual IP of the AE WAN port when plugged in. Screenshots are good.

  • Is there any way to share my Mac's internet connection with my iPod as I can't turn on the wifi on my iPod?!

When I restored and updated to IOS 6.1.3, my wifi on my iPod Touch 4th Gen greyed out and I can no longer use it.
Is there any way to share the connection of my mac using the USB cable or Bluetooth?

How did you try to contact them? In any case, an Apple Store is the best way to handle any problems with an iPhone when you have a store in your area. The Apple Store will certainly be able to handle the problem one way or another. Most likely they'll just replace the iPhone, though if you're out of warranty the replacement will not be free.

  • Why my Mac Mini cannot connect to my Samsung 32" HD LCD TV?

Hi guys, I just bought a mac mini and a Samsung 32" HD LCD TV. I was trying to connect the mac mini to the TV by HDMI cable,I and set the PC as the source of the TV. but the TV cannot find signal at all. I tried both HDMI ports on the TV, the results were same. Please help me about this problem. Thanks a lot.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Please tell us about your LCD TV. What model is it? What year was it made?
The reason that I ask is because Samsung says that their TVs made before 2007 have a DVI/HDMI port that does not support computer connections.
