Why is macmail deleting all inbox messages after a month?

I am using Mail 3.6 with Mac OSX version 10.5.8 on a Macbook. A few months ago, Macmail started deleting any messages in my inbox that were a month or more old. I've checked everything in Preferences and there seem to be no rules which are making this happen. I've checked with my email provider (Demon) and they say it isn't a problem at their end. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • HT2966 Why does ical delete information on calendar after eight months?  Why isn't data retained on calendar? (Apart from actually saving or backing up ical?)

Why does ical automatically delete information on calendar after eight months or so?  Why doesn't data which has been inserted on calendar remain on the relevant dated calendar?  (Apart from actually saving or backing up calendar).

How are your settings in iCal preferences set?
iCal-->Preferences-->Advanced-->Delete events __ days after they have passed.

  • How can I STOP ical from deleting all my events after a month or so

No matter how I set the preferences/settings it always keeps deleting all events after 30 to 40 days.
I have gone into preferences and checked off the
    "DELETE EVENTS AFTER...
and put 99 or 999 days and it doens make a difference
If Ileave the box unchecked - it STILL doesn't make difference
    Anyone has a suggestion?
as I keep loosing all the important info/phone numbers I enter.
    Thanks
    Bruno

    Bruno,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Are you using any sync software?
The easiest thing to try is to refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart, and make sure the deletion preference is not checked.

  • TS2755 why have we deleted all saved messages and the iphone 4s sitll says 6GB is devoted to messages. I have seen this question asked numerous times but Apple seems to be ignoring it.

Can't update the Iphone operating system because 6.8 GB is devoted to messages despite the fact that all messages have been deleted.  Did a reset, back up and restore, still 6.8 GB allocated to messages.
The local Verizon store, which is a company store, just said to back up and restore with itunes, but that didn't work.
I have seen this question asked on support community blogs and various people have suggested different solutions, some very technical that involve changing settings on the backups saved on Itues files on your PC and lots of posts from people saying it worked for me, but many others saying no, that didnn't work.
It seem utterly irresponsible for Apple not to publish a fix that actually works.  With what you have to pay for these phones, it's ridiculous.

  • TS3899 Why cant i delete all my email inbox messages together?

Why cant i delete all my inbox email messages together?, I'm using my iPhone 5s, i can delete all my junk email messages together but not my inbox email messages, i have to individually tick each inbox message one at a time tick/delete, its extremely annoying, it doesn't make any sense, can anyone please explain why such an obviously much needed function has been left out for email inbox messages but included only for junk email messages?

There's no one from Apple here, thus no one here can answer your question. You can make suggestions to Apple using this:

  • How do I delete all the messages in my Inbox on my iphone 4S

How do I delete all the messages at one time in my inbox on teh iphone 4S

    Not supported for good reasons.
If the account is an IMAP account, delete the messages from the account's Inbox mailbox with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, or transfer the messages from the account's Inbox to a user created mailbox stored locally on your computer's hard drive which will remove the messages from the server. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account are kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
If the account is a POP account, delete the messages from the server with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account, or via webmail access for the account. Follow this by deleting and recreating the account on your iPhone.

  • Iphone says messages is taking up 6GB of storage, even after I deleted all my messages. What is wrong?

iphone says messages is taking up 6GB of storage, even after I deleted all my messages. What is wrong? This is preventing me from downloading the most recent iOS, not to mention numerous other things.  Thanks for any help! I am at a loss of what to do.

For that much storage being taken up the only thing that can be done as of now is back the device up in iTunes and restore the iphone.  The restore will also update the phone.

  • Why can't I delete all incoming messages at once without having to select each one first. It can be done while in the "Trash" folder, but not the "IN" folder.

Why can't I delete all incoming messages at once without having to select each one first. It can be done while in the "Trash" folder, but not the "IN" folder.

Well, what I see happing is this: Tapping edit and checking the first message brings up the “Delete” option. Holding it until the red message “Delete Message” appears, then letting go of the red button and tapping the checked button makes the “Delete Message” message go away. The checked message is still checked with an option to delete just that message. Tap the checked message again just cancels the whole process and I’m back to square one.
However, if I check a message that is part of a thread of messages and tap Delete, I have the option of deleting all messages in the thread.
Perhaps the fact that I’m using the 3rd generation of the iPad is the problem, but your suggestion isn’t working.

  • I have an ipod nano and use one click digital to download books from my library.  My nano says I have 2449 songs which is 65 books.  I have deleted all my playlists after I listen to the audiobook.

I have an ipod nano and use one click digital to download books from my library.  My nano says I have 2449 songs which is about 65 books.  I have deleted all my playlists after I listen to the audiobook.  Now I get a message saying I don't have enough room on my nano to transfer new books to it.  My nano is 16 GB and my operating system is Windows 7.

iTunes and Apple's devices work as an ecosystem. iTunes is designed to sync with Apple's products, not anyone else's. You'll need your songs in a format compatable with the Samsung phone and to use the software transfer program supplied/recommended. It is essentially not an Apple/iTunes problem. You may have better luck finding the information you need on Samsung's forums.

  • How do I delete all email messages in just one touch (delete all feature)?

Does anyone know how to perform a "delete all" in order to delete all email messages rather than going through each message one at a time to move from the inbox to the trash folder, then delete from the trash folder permanently?  Currently, we seem to be able to only select one message at a time, rather than perform "Delete All".
I read in a forum post about the "Delete All" button being available only when pressing Edit in the Trash folder.  Could someone please provide the sequence of steps to successfully delete all messages in one step?  Thanks.
    John Bottiger

It is not possible other than as described by yourself - singly to the Trash folder and then collectively from there if you so wish.

how do I take all inbox messages [ 3000 ] and deleate all at one time ?

Go to icloud.com, open Mail, then select them in batches (click the first message, scroll down, shift-click the last message) and press your delete key.  The server usually has problems deleting that many at once, so you should try a smaller number, say 500, and delete them in batches.

  • Repeat: Why is disabled "Delete" in Sent Messages?

    I am Nokia 6021; I use PC Suite 6.82.22.
Why is disabled "Delete" in Sent Messages?
    How activate I this thing?
Anyway Nokia Co. make the software very poor.
The problems with the install ... with the uninstall ... and many other things.

Thanks, Clay. I wonder if the file of sent messages continues to grow until it consumes all available storage space, or is there a cap on it? It seems strange that Apple didn't include an easier way to delete files that are no longer needed. My email account is POP, so the IMAP suggestion doesn't help me..

You have data corruption.  restore your phone and set it up as a new device.  Not from backup
