Why is Mail showing new messages when nothings there?
I decided to delete the Apple RSS feed from my mail, and suddenly the mail icon on shows 17 new messages (the same amount that were present in the RSS feed when it was deleted) and I don't know how to get it to stop showing it.
This is really ******* me off because I never wanted a RSS feed in the first place, now that I get rid of it, I'm stuck with this huge red "17" on my mail icon.
So can somebody tell me how to get rid of it?
Nevermind. For some reason when I attempted to quit mail, the new messages dissappeared.

OS X 10.5 Mail shows unread messages when there are none and get ghost messages
I have been searching for an ansswer to this delimma, but have found similar issues but none exactly the same. I run 10.6 server and have mixed network users of 10.6 and 10.5 clients. One of the users on 10.5 's mail app keeps showing unread messages, but there are no unread messages. When they click on another mail box in the mail client or another folder the number changes, but ther always seems to be one or two. The user also gets at least 2 blank e-mails in the mail app. I have check the users web mail account and there are no blank e-mail messages or spam. I tried to rebuild the mail box, and have also tried trashing the indexs, and they still get the same message. Short of creating a new user does anyone have any suggestions? None of my other users seem to have the same problem, although they do not use mail as much as this one user does.....
I get this issue every single day, and it is specifically reproducible. Here is the scenario:
1) I have two mail accounts configured on my iPhone, one is my work account and is disabled on the phone, the other is my gmail account which is always enabled on my phone
2) Each morning, when I head into work I enabled my work email account so I can start reading my work emails for the day. This downloads all the new messages from the server and displays them as unread.
3) I read some of them, but not all of them.
4) Once I get to my office, I read all of the rest of my new work emails from the Mail app on my MacBook Pro.
EXPECTED: The messages that are read on the mail app are updated as read messages
OBSERVED: On my iphone, not all of the messages have their statuses changed to read. Some of them always remain as unread messages
5) Next, I delete some of the messages read from my computer from the email server altogether.
EXPECTED: These messages would also appear deleted when using the mail app on my iPhone
OBSERVED: Not only are the messages not deleted, but they are still listed as unread
The only way to resolve this each day is for me to select each message and view it for a second to have the unread message indicator removed. I have to turn off the mail account and turn it back on for it to correctly sync with the mail server and correct the mistakes.
There is clearly a problem within the iPhone mail app with retrieving updates from the mail servers.
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 that I purchased in November. Before that, I had an iPhone 3G S and never experienced the issue on my 3G S. My MacBook Pro was used with both devices. -
Gmail won't send messages, and Mail shows sent messages when I don't want
I have my Gmail account set up through the Mail application. I can receive messages fine but I can't send them. So I send them by actually logging into Gmail. Now when I send them that way, they show up in my Mail account but i don't want them to. Help please!
I am having the same problem. I have tried Mulder's solution without success.
Here is some background:
I have two gmail accounts. My normal "[email protected]" account with which I am using POP does send mail. However I also have a google apps account ("username@my_domain.com") connected with IMAP and I can't send using this one. I have tried the various ports suggested by gmail help. It won't connect with the outgoing server. I ran a Telnet test and my computer is connecting with the server, but it appears as "offline" in Mail. User authentification and SSL are both checked (although I have also tried unchecking them). -
Mail doesn't show new messages
Mail sometimes doesn't show new messages for an IMAP account. The badge in the dock says that there is a new mail but it doesn't show up in the inbox. I'm sure that I didn't just miss it, because, smart mailboxes will not find that new mail as well. When I restart mail, the mail finally shows up in the inbox as well.
Anybody else seeing this and what can I do to resolve that issue?
Thanks!I'll bring everyone up to speed on what's been happening with my family accounts. I first suspected Safari, because it seemed to be a local problem, but then, inexplicably, all mobileme mail accounts tied to that family account, which included 4 subaccounts and 1 mail-only account, not only did not work in mail.app, but also failed in other email clients I tested, including clients on Linux. Also, the webmail version was not working well, either.
So, if your problem is isolated to a single computer and just to mail.app, or just with a particular network, then I think the local troubleshooting steps are the way to go.
But, if your problem extends to other platforms, clients, and webmail, then it is likely an issue the engineers at Apple will have to figure out. I found the online chat service for mobileme users to be very helpful in checking through all the 'usual suspects' and after we had pretty much ruled out any of the usual culprits, it was escalated to the engineers, who are working on it now.
They were able to release all the email that had been piling up, but there are still some glitches they are trying to iron out. As an aside, I have been personally managing various mail servers for a dozen years, and am well aware of the difficulties in diagnosing email problems, and it was stumping me, and I have intimate knowledge of Exim and Exchange and various email modules used with mx services.

In my work, typically 94% of all email traffic hitting the server is filtered out as spam. So, the 6% that is allowed through is the stuff most of us see and are spending time and resources filtering out the 20-40% additional unwanted spam that the host let through because if they tightened it down any further the risk of false positives would become too great. I spend way more time on the mail service aspects of my job than the web services, and mail problems occupy at least 80% of my troubleshooting logs. So, while email seems more 'simple' than the exotic and bandwidth intensive services like video chat, voip, and web2 transactions, compared to the amount of wasted bandwidth and cpu cycles filtering packets, I think email is the number one problem service for most host providers. We tried to depend upon it for mission-critical communications, and it was never designed for that initially, and the spammers are making certain it won't achieve that status at least in the near future. If anything, email is your least dependable Internet service. Combine this with the growing array of user configurations, email clients, forwarding/retrieving/syncing scenarios, and user experience, and you may find yourself uttering a little prayer now and then for the poor email administrators and support personnel.+

When I send an email message, my Mail shows two messages outgoing instead of just one.
What is going on? Is it possible some "spyware" has crept in?There is an email address on my website that automatically forwards to my "regular" email address, but this problem predates setting up that website. My primary email is a bellsouth account (AT&T) which switched to a Yahoo mail-supported service....so based on your comments, perhaps that is why the activity is looking weird.

Every time I open a pdf file which includes a javascript, a dialogue box pops up. I have a question why 'Do not show this message again' is not working even I checked on the checkbox. It should block the dialogue next time when I open the same pdf file but not working. What is the matter and how can I deal with it?
I am trying it on Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.2.1. Tried to fix Hex code, and also tried 'edit-preference-trust manager'. I focusing on Adobe registries but still couldn't fix the problem.

Mail app new messages badge after upgrade to iOS 7
I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 and here's one of the issues that this brought up:
I rely on the Mail app to see if I get any new messages and now my badge shows 3553 new messages When I open the Mail app though it doesn't show any new messages (with their blue dots).
Is there any way to reset the Mail app badge back to 0 or none-shown?No, but there are other apps that will give you that view of your calendar information. Week Cal is one.

I have an old version, 10.5. A few days ago, my Inbox stopped showing new messages received, although they are coming in and show under Messages on Server. How can I get the messages on the server to go to my Inbox so I can access them?

As a first fix attempt try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and see if you get the same message. If you don't then the problem lies with your current library.

for me this issue is only new powerbook w retina display on 10.8. do not have issue on Lion, imac, ibook or old powerbook 17.

I just updated Firefox but can't get it to display the message when a pop-up is blocked. Most times I want them blocked but sometimes I need them enabled.
You can see a pop-up block icon in the right corner of the Status Bar if you have chosen to hide the information bar at the top.
You can left-click that pop-up block icon on the Status Bar and remove the check mark from "Don't show info message when pop-ups are blocked"
You can look at these prefs on the '''about:config''' page and reset them via the right-click context menu:
Status bar icon: browser.popups.showPopupBlocker
Info bar at the top: privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page. -
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unabailable" Why am I getting this message when I try to updaate itunes or quicktime?
Before trying the update again, use Microsoft's Fix it solution at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall. Use it to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. It bypasses this not uncommon problem. When the solution finishes, the selected program will be uninstalled. It can take several minutes and I have seen as much as half an hour.
After iTunes & Quicktime are uninstalled, try the update again.

I got a new MacBook Pro and an iPod touch. I tried transferring all my apps from my old computer, but only some of them will load onto my iPod. I have authorized my new computer. It keeps telling me I'm not authorized.
