Why is mail telling me my password is incorrect?

Okay, so about an hour ago I got an email from google/gmail saying someone from China attempted to login to my account or else got the password right, I'm not exactly sure. So, I logged on, changed my password, but then my Mail app on my desktop says my password is incorrect and I need to enter my new one. So, I did and it says it's incorrect. I read elsewhere that I was supposed to reset my Keychain, so I did that. Still nothing. So, I deleted the account, and then added it again. I even changed my password again, and it still won't work. Also isn't working on my iphone. Only for mail though, it accepted the address and password for imessage. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it, as I'm already rattled enough about someone hacking my account, I don't need this on top of it! Thanks. (I would contact Gmail directly, but they suck and it just keeps directing me to forums, figured I'd try here instead)

I agree with wjosten. Google has locked your account from any other access then through the Web Interface.
If you changed your password then give it a day and then try it.
Find the Keychain entry for the Gmail account and delete it, any and all of them.

I believe Gmail has an option for Two-Step verification that may require a different password for mobile devices than for your computer.

A while back I had to set up a second apple ID in order to use the iCloud. So now I have two (annoying), and from what I'm reading on forums, this has happened to many people and you still can't merge accounts. But I digress.
Apparently the apps in question were purchased on one apple ID, but the phone had the other apple ID set within the app store. The store, it seems, will only update the apps if you're logged in as the account that initially purchased the apps. So it means going to Settings > Store > Log out, then log back in with the other ID. Annoying. But at least I know, now, what's going on.
The password, it seems, was right all along (since I have the same password for both IDs). Too bad the phone's error message told me the password was incorrect, instead of saying something more useful like "This apple ID is not authorized to update this app." Or ... something like that. Apparently I've been chasing down the wrong solution due to the wrong error message being given.

  • "cannot get mail" The username or password is incorrect?

"cannot get mail" the username or password is incorrect?

I got it going again... What I did was recreate my iCloud "[email protected]" email address through the "advanced" method on the ipad.
So, it was  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > iCloud > Then went manual from there on out. (Didn't use the suggested email address and created my own.)
I created a NEW me.com email address. Nobody had my old one, so it's just as well... This may not work for some people...
..and thanks for your reply Souad H...
    All the best!!

  • Why does ipad say my email password is incorrect?

Why does ipad say my email password is incorrect when I have reconfirmed it multiple times?

It could be that another setting that you entered is incorrect. Review all settings. Sometimes it is easier to delete the account from the iPad and reenter all seetings.

  • Mail is telling me my password is incorrect do i have a " virus" issue?

My mail program  has stopped receiving mail from the server, Cincinnati Bell, zoomtown.  I have had numerous weird sent items that come back as undeliverable to people not in my contacts. When i try to log in it tells me that my password is incorrect. I tried to check on webmail and CB is saying they have locked my account for suspicous activity and i should remove the " virus" and they will reopen  my account. I thought that macs did not get viruses.any idea what is  causing this problem?

Whatever motivated Cincinnati Bell to suspend your account was not the result of a virus, and it was premature of them to imply one exists. The most likely cause of unauthorized activity is that your credentials were stolen by any number of possible means, including some that are completely beyond your control. "Phishing" exploits and the many forms in which they appear are the most common explanation for theft of passwords and other sensitive information, and the only protection against that threat is recognition and avoidance.
Pursuing an "anti-virus" solution for what you describe will be futile.
Change your password, with their assistance if necessary. If you used that same password with other accounts, change them also. Don't use trivial passwords and make sure your wireless network and the devices that create it are protected by their own passwords, as well as from physical access by anyone you don't trust.

  • My email has stopped allowing me to log in; it is telling me the password is incorrect, even though I am putting in the correct password.  Help!

Today, while I was using my email, it suddenly stopped working and told me that my email required a password.  When I went into settings to put in a password, the phone told me it was incorrect.  When I got home to try and figure out what was going on, I had a message on my computer saying that my email account had been compromised, so I changed my password.  I still could not put this password into my phone - I was getting the message from the phone that the password was incorrect.  What is going on???

If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

  • ITunes telling me my password is incorrect.

iTunes (on my Windows PC) is telling me that my password is incorrect, yet I'm able to use it on my iPad and on the account website.  I've even restored it, and iTunes won't let me sign in.  Any suggestions?  This first happened immediately after I updated to iTunes 11.0.2.25.

The backup encryption passcode has nothing to do with locking a user out of their backup.
If the encryption passcode has been forgotten, nothing can be done.  There is no reset for the encryption passcode.
Delete the backup and create a new one.

  • HT201320 Google keeps telling me my password in incorrect

I am adding a gmail account and they keep telling me my passsword s incorrect. I cahned the password and it is still telling me that.

    Ok. That can be fixed.
    1. Try Logging out of your Apple ID. Then Log back in and try the Password again.
    Or if that doesn't work:
    Contact Google.
If that's not the issue, Contact Apple Tech Support. They'll tell you if it's a Firmware or something else that's making that Issue.

  • My iPhone 4s keeps telling me my password is incorrect when I try to use the app store, but it's definitely NOT incorrect.

When I try to update apps in the app store from my iPhone 4s, it says the password is incorrect. I'm positive it's correct. I even went through yesterday and changed my passwords just in case (I have two apple ids - they now both have the exact same password.) I was able to go to the app store yesterday and download an app using that password, but then tried to update some apps and it says the password is incorrect - and it's said that ever since. I can go to settings and log into the store with the password - view my cc info, etc. So it's definitely correct. Heck, I can even log into this forum with that password - so it's definitely the right one. What can I do?

Okay - tried that and it didn't work either. HOWEVER ...
