Why is Microsoft word hogging my computer screen?

Why is Microsoft word hogging my computer screen?
Right now my laptop is open and the following programs are open:
Finder
Mail
Safari
Calendar
Contacts
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Maps
Filemaker Pro
Preview
If I am in mail and want to select one of the open messages on the screen, my screen jumps to the open Word documents on the screen and to the Word application.
Same when selecting SOME other open files in other applications.  Very frustrating.
But the pattern is irregular so I can't control when it happens and when it doesn't.
Anyone experiencing the same Word desktop dominance phenomenon?
Steve

Apple doesn't announce their future hardware so third party software makers (and hardware copy cats) can't get a leg up.
Everything (including the web) is going to look like crap on the MBP-R's for quite some time, thus is the cost of being on the cutting edge.
IMO, I think the Retinas are pure overkill, like driving a gas guzzling Hummer.

Nevermind I just installed it to try it and it's awesome, so happy right now, Thanks. All the things I had read about it on third party sites led me to believe it could not do extended desk tops, thanks for your help!

  • Microsoft word frequently crashing, computer running slow

Hi, I've been having some computer problems lately and am looking for insight.
I am using a 2.53 ghz MacBook Pro intel core duo.  I am using Word 2008 version 12.1.0.  The computer seems to be running slowly in general, but is having particular problems with microsoft word.  I have included my etrecheck below.  I've already uninstalled virtualbox, so I'm not sure why those kernal extensions are still running.  I also just used disk utility to repair permissions, since it seemed like that was a common suggestion.  Hopefully that will speed things up, but I'm not optimistic.

  • Why has microsoft taken over my computer

every time I want to use either office or excel I cant. cant always be connected to internet was ok till you forced me to up date

    Hi,
I'm not sure what it means by it asks you for internet, for activation or something else?
If you are using Online Services such as OneDrive, Office will need to connect to internet. Sign out from these services and check the result.

  • Adobe Export no longer works in Microsoft Word 2010, Why?

I use to be able to convert word documents when I finished writing them, to PDF right in my Microsoft Word 2010, then save them. I can no longer do this, Why?

Microsoft Word does not use Adobe to save Word docs to PDF.
When you write "can not longer do this": what prevents you from doing this?

  • Publish to Microsoft Word fails on Mac OS 10.7 with MS Word 2011. Captivate 6 and 7

    Hello Mark,
You can open Microsoft word on your computer before you run publish.
You can also check the version of word 2011 you are using and update it using the link below

  • How do I transfer from Microsoft word document to my Ipad?

How do I transfer a document in Microsoft Word on my computer to my Ipad?

You need an app on the iPad that is capable of reading/recognising Word documents. If you've got an app then one options is to do it via the bottom of the iPad's apps tab on your computer's iTunes (apps that allow file sharing, i.e. saving/copying content, are listed there), and a second option, if the app has the facility, is via wifi.

  • Updated microsoft word 2011 version 14.4.3 and it does not have an "illustrations" grouping or "screen shot" option like 2010 did.

I clicked the update for my microsoft word program that came with my macbook pro when it showed there were updates.  Now I have Microsoft Word 2011 Version 14.4.3  It seems to have LESS options that the previous version and is not user friendly.
I can't find help information on line about it either because it is too new?  I used the "illustrations" grouping, and " screen shot" options all of the time to create documents to be used in my teaching.  Now I can't figure
out how to do that with the new version.  It seems they were taken out???????  If that is the case, how do I reverse the update and get my previous version back?

  • Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exact

Why Acrobat x professional is changing the text formatting specifically the font family  and the font size of the text in my pdf on exporting it to Microsoft word file format ?How should i stop Acrobat x professional from doing that so that i get an exactly same word file on exporting it from its pdf counterpart?

I was testing the preciseness & efficiency of Adobe acrobat x professional's doc conversion capabilities. As i have to take a document editing project in future which is going to need lot of pdf to word and vice versa conversions . What I did was I created a test word document converted into a pdf using a pdf maker in my word 2007 , Acrobat did convert the document from word to pdf keeping everything in the source file intact , However when i tried the other way round and attempted to convert the same pdf to word 2007 file format I lost my formatting ?So the font that I used to create the pdf are the ones taken from word 2007 which i believe is using the fonts that are installed in my computer. Any suggestions on how to preserve the formatting of the document after converting it from pdf to word file format?
    Regards
    Mike

  • PLEASE HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Why did my word document become/turn into a Microsoft Messenger file?

I need to open an incredibly important document... but somehow, and I have absolutely not a clue as to why, it "became" a Microsoft Messenger file. In other words, I click on the document, and Messenger opens up. What the heck happened and how do I recover this file?!?!!? I don't even have a Messenger ID, so I am not sure if I should make one. Please help. Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
You have the desktop version of Reader/Acrobat DC but posted the question in the wrong forum.  This forum (All Communities > Reader/Acrobat DC for mobile) is for the mobile version.
On your Windows computer, please try opening the PDF document in other non-Adobe PDF viewers to see if the picture turns gray.  You can even drag and drop your PDF document to Google Chrome (web browser) to open it.
If most of the PDF viewers that you tried show the gray box, you can conclude that the PDF document (generated by Microsoft Word 2013) itself is faulty.  It means that Microsoft Word 2013 has bug(s) in converting Word to PDF.
I'd recommend visiting the Microsoft Word 2013 Support site to get answers.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/product/office/word-2013
    Hope this helps.

  • It takes several minutes to turn on my computer, and everytime I try to use Microsoft Word, it freezes. Is this a memory problem? RAM?

I am usure as to why it is taking up to 10 minutes for my computure to fully load.  I recently deleted a lot of old documents and pictures trying to free up space, but this did not solve anything.  Also, everytime I use microsoft word my computer will type ok for a while and then freeze out of no where. I read on another post that this may have to do with RAM space. I am not quite sure what RAM is though...  I also re-installed Microsoft 2008, but I am still having problems. What might I do?

    Hi
I would download the free Onyx application (Google will find it) and go through its sequence of maintenance operations: Verify, Maintenance, and Cleaning.
When its finished all these steps, I'd then reset the SMC and PRAM:
    - Reset the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    - Reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If you still have problems after these steps come back to us

Start by rebooting the computer. If that doesn't work, search for adobefnt*.lst and delete all instances where * becomes a 2-digit number.

If you purchased your version of Office online, you can redownload it from Microsoft using your product key (I don't know why the link says "office2010"... but the link is for Office for Mac 2011):
    https://www2.downloadoffice2010.microsoft.com/macdl/registerkey.aspx?ref=macdl&c ulture=en-US
They used to have a free 30 trial, but I don't seem to see that anywhere.

  • Why does an outline and the name of a file stay in Microsoft Word after I delete the actual document? How do I get rid of this?

I was told to post this question on the Microsoft Word for Mac forum, but I have no idea how to get to that. After I delete a file, I can no longer access it, but the name and a dotted line outline (but not a picture of the actual document) remain. I want this gone, as it is fairly annoying to be able to see 100+ documents that should no longer exist on my computer. It is cluttered, and someone mentioned that it might have something to do with a setting in microsoft for the number of documents displayed, or something along those lines. If anyone can tell me how to PERMANENTLY get rid of these documents, I would greatly appreciate it.

Google "Microsoft Word for Mac forum". This is what comes up.
