Why is Mountain Lion indexing constantly??? sucking up all the my CPU

I've been having this problem since I updated to Mountain Lion, Indexing constantly and randomly
my Macbook Pro is becoming unusable as a result, I rebuild the spotlight database and still it happens
can you get this annoying bug sorted as its driving people mad

Check in Activity Monitor to see what % of your CPU is being used by Spotlight indexing - do a search for "mds". Spotlight works well for me - indexing in the background and taking up very little % of CPU time. If you want to turn it off, for whatever reason, you can go into Terminal and copy and paste:
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
...and hit Return and enter your admin password.
If you'd like to re-enable Spotlight, copy and paste in Terminal:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
Good luck,
Clinton

You are not specific with your problem or errors but one thing that always throws people off is as follows:
When entering you're login name you must use the entire login with carrier name such as [email protected] The field defults to just your name but not the carrier name.

  • Why has Mountain Lion has moved Parallels 7 to the Incompatible Software folder even though this version is supposed to compatible?

I have Parallels Version 7.0.15094 but on upgrading to Mountain Lion it has been moved to the Incompatible Software folder.  From what I've read Version 7 is supposed to be compatible so does anyone know why this has happened and what I can do to fix it?

I have the same version on my MBP and upgraded to Mountain Lion. It's right where it was before the upgrade. I would try to run it and see if it crashes. If you've had parallels for a while and followed the upgrade path, it may have left some loose baggage on an upgrade. I would back up the virtual machines and try a clean load. Check the parallels site. They seem to have most of the bases covered.

  • Why when mountain lion is downloading it keeps giving me 403 forbidden, even though all systems are up to date?

I just recently purchased the lastest version of Mountain Lion. I am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 which is the lastest version, and should be compatiable to download Mountain Lion. My computer meets all the requirements in order for the operating system to download, but everytime it gets about halfway through the download it stops and the error screen pops up and says Error: could not download...403 Forbidden. What is going on? I don't know what to do, and I can't get it to download after 4 tries, and all of my programs are up-to-date. What do I do?

Why does mountain lion "bunch up" all my microsoft office documents that I have open when I hit f3? When I had snow leopard for example, if i had 4 or 5 different microsoft office documents open at the same time I could hit f3 and easily pick one of them.
Notice how in the photo, I can't identify which MS office document I would like to switch too. Perhaps since the Dashboard and Desktop windows are at the top of my screen now Apple doesn't let you have all the applications take up the full screen and be sized individually so that you can have a better idea on what to pick.
I like the idea of grouping to an extent... If you have a bunch of random things it was hard for me to decifer between what was safari, chrome, or word. But now that they grouped them like this, if you have multiple pages of one program running, you can't switch between those pages easily like before.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.

  • HT3669 I only have a HP printer and why I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers 590MB??? if normally the size of my file should be 5MB.  some one could me help to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???

    Hi guys..!!
I would like to know if someone could help on this:
I just have a HP printer (HP Designjet 100) and for some reason I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers in total 590MB to be able to use my printer in my mountain lion???
If normally the size of my files in the for previous software was more or less 5MB why now i need to install 590?
Some one could help me how to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???
    Thanks

If you go to http://support.apple.com/downloads and locate the HP Printer Drivers installer, you will find that it is 473.4 MB (for version 2.11). If you install this, it will install the full set of drivers for every model of HP printer that is supported by the drivers distributed through Apple. The disk space occupied once installed will probably be larger than the download, since the downloaded file is compressed.
On the other hand, if you have an HP printer connected and you use Software Update (or the Update tab in App Store), that should offer you a much smaller set of HP drivers, which are only applicable to your printer (and possibly a few similar ones). These updates are typically only tens of megabytes rather than hundreds of megabytes.
If Software Update doesn't offer you any HP drivers then it either thinks you have the latest drivers installed already, or the printer model is not supported by the drivers available from Apple.
This article lists all of the printer models for which Apple distributes the driver:

  • HT4414 When I try to purchase Mountain Lion i get an error message:  "We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."  I can purchase other apps, why not Mountain Lion?

When I try to purchase Mountain Lion i get an error message:  "We could not complete your purchase.  The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
I can purchase other apps, why not Mountain Lion.   I get the same message on my wife's IMAC.

The only thing that worked for me was to boot in safe mode.
Power down.  Then press power button and hold 'shift' key until grey screen with progress bar appears... Once booted and logged in just open safari and browse to applestore.
No trouble at all once I did this.
    Hope it helps.

  • Why is mountain lion not coming to my iMac?

    Hi
I'm new to the community but have been with apple for a long time. I current own a late 2006 iMac and am trying to wrap my brain around why Mountain Lion isn't supported on the model?
I have recently updated the mac's RAM to 3GB and purchased OS Lion for the reason I wanted to get Mountain Lion when it launched. It runs Lion with no issues at all and I really can't believe there is that much change coming in Mountain Lion, which requires better hardware since the software tweaks don't seem massive?
I could be wrong on the matter, I'm just a little annoyed as I was really looking forward to using mountain lion at an upgrade cost of £19.99 than having to pay out £1000 for a new computer.
If anyone could put in my place and explain why this isn't coming to this iMac please reply?
    Ian

This is what Apple does, now.
When new  technologies become developed by Apple, they do not now want to support a lot of legacy Macs any longer.
They had to do this with PPC Macs because of all the years they used PPC technology and the large installed user base.
Now that the majority of installed users and new users are now on Intel Macs, Apple feels, now, in order to push technology forward that they need to pick a cutoff point at which to end older Mac hardware. Apple is continuing to build on 64 bit technologies in hardware and software. The 2006 model Macs simply aren't up to the challenge as they are only 32 bit architecture computers. Nothing says you have to stay on a current, upgrade path with your Mac, but Apple wants to continue to push technology forward and they do this, now, by obsoleting technology that may only be 3-4 years old!
I think you've been lucky. You've already got six years of productive life out of your iMac and it will continue to perform what you need it perform for a few more years to come.
I just made the switch to Intel with a used, but new to me, 2009, 27 inch screen iMac. I used a 2003 PowerPC tower for nearly 10 years prior to this. That Mac went as far as I could take it!
The only line of Macs that seem to have this kind of longevity, now, is Apple's top of the line Mac Pros.
I think this is so because if it's heavy price point. People and professionals expect to get longer useful and productive life of this line of Macs because they paid so much for these.
Technology is always going to move forward.
Also like to point out that even though you have installed the max. 3 GBs in RAM in your iMac, it is really the barest minimum to run OS X, by itself. You must not have or do any CPU or RAM intense work. You must just use this iMac for the basics (Internet, email, video chat, playing music and movies)? Ideally, the " working minimum" RAM for OS X 10.6-10.8 is really 4 GBs. Just for running the OS alone!
Additonal RAM atop this min. amount will insure the most applications will run a lot smoother.
With the specs of your iMac, I really can't see it running OS X Mountain Lion very well, in any event. IMO.

  • Why does mountain lion keep crashing after opening lid?

Why does mountain lion crash after opening the lid or after it is asleep

When are you seeing these messages? When Safari is running? If so, some web site is trying to perform a Java attack.
There is virtually no reason to have Java on in your web browser. Open Safari's preferences and turn off the check box for Java. Leave JavaScript on.

  • Why is Mountain Lion so...well...bad?

Ok so when I bought my MacBook Pro, I recieved Mountain Lion for free, but more to the point, before I got it, I could run games like Tekkit and Portal 2 but now, I CAN'T. Help me

Looks like an issue with Java and the fact that Apple doesn't include it in their regular download updates.
I found this video for running teckitt on the latest version of ML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6YVChLdjn8
as to why, I think apple saw Java as a security risk and not completely necessary to use the computer. They want the user to download and use it if they need it.

  • Why is Mountain Lion in "waiting" mode in my dock?

Why is Mountain Lion icon in "waiting" mode in my dock? Why is it not installing? I'm running a newer iMac with sufficient memory. I'm installing from Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Thanks for the advice. I selected cancel and restarted the process. It says it is downloading however, it disappeared and I chose to start the process again this a.m. I'm not sure whether or not it begins entirely again or carries on from before.  It seems like a long, drawn out process, doesn't it? I've noticed the feed is starting so I'll let it run this morning and monitor the process.

  • Why is Mountain Lion not available for Mac Pro 2007???

Why is Mountain Lion not available for Macpro 2007 eventhough this computer is not having old generation hardware like of 15years ago's computers!! I am surprised to know about that. when this mac pro have 2 xeon processor, 8GB ram, OS 10.7.5 (Lion) etc etc. so why is this not compatible for mountain lion???
Very Sad for us - the buyer of so costly Macpro ....
so does the Apple want to say we should buy or upgrade our purchased costly apple products every 5 years ??!!

This is a user forum. We are all users like yourself. Conjecture about Apple's products is not appropriate discussion in these forums.

  • When installing mountain lion on my computer, why does it say "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired."

I'm unable install mountain lion on my computer. Every time it says "OSX Mountain Lion couldn't be installed, because the disk \ is damaged and can't be repaired. Click restart to restart your computer and try installing again." So I press the only button listed as an option, it restarts, and the same screen comes up again. I can't make mountain lion go away...I've tried many times. What is wrong with my computer? It's stuck like this and I can't even get snow leopard back on there if I wanted to because I can't get away from the same screen. Please help : (

Insert your OS installer disk in the optical drive. Power the Mac down by holding down the power button. Then power back up and hold down the 'c' key so the MBP boots to the installer disk. From Disk Utility you should do a Repair Disk. If DU successfully repairs the disk quit the installer and reboot your Mac. You should update to 10.6.8 prior to upgrading to ML.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Then do your ML upgrade install.

    Dear  MAC-Friends.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
I am extremely afraid to do something wrong - what will be a failure so I loose all the photos I had in my iphoto library before installing the Mountain Lion.
I have just installed the MOUNTAIN-LION and now I can´t use my Iphoto-programme without answering the following question:
Choose another Library ?  ( But I only want the choose the photos which one was in the old iPhoto-Library and not the other photos on the MAC-computer ? ).
    and the other possibility is:
    Create a new Libray ! Which iPhoto-library  ?
And why create a new and to risq to loose the old photos.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
    Kind regards  FINN GRABOWSKI

Ok. Let me first ask you, do you have any backups of your files - for example, do you use Time Machine or any other backup system?
Next, quit iPhoto. In the Finder, go to your Pictures folder. Is there a file there called iPhoto.Library? How large is it? (If it doesn't show the size, click once on it, click cmd-I to see the information). If it's a healthy size (ie, several GB), then that should be your library, and you can double-click it to launch iPhoto. (The application will remember where your library is next time, you can just launch iPhoto normally).
If that's not the right file, check your Trash. Is there anything in there?
