Why is Mountain Lion not downloading?

I am new (literally as of today) to mac....it's been sitting in launchpad and it says it's downloading but it's been like that for over three hours not loading a single bit.... I've tried restarting my computer and re-starting the download once but that didn't work. What's going on?
Also, where is microsoft word located?

You may be causing your own problem. There are tons of people downloading 10.8. If your internet speed is not fast then it can take up to 5 hours to download it. Be patient! Ours took around 4 hours. Well worth it though.
BTW, WELCOME to Mac! You'll be glad you switched

  • Why is Mountain Lion not available for Mac Pro 2007???

Why is Mountain Lion not available for Macpro 2007 eventhough this computer is not having old generation hardware like of 15years ago's computers!! I am surprised to know about that. when this mac pro have 2 xeon processor, 8GB ram, OS 10.7.5 (Lion) etc etc. so why is this not compatible for mountain lion???
Very Sad for us - the buyer of so costly Macpro ....
so does the Apple want to say we should buy or upgrade our purchased costly apple products every 5 years ??!!

This is a user forum. We are all users like yourself. Conjecture about Apple's products is not appropriate discussion in these forums.

  • Why isn't OS X Mountain Lion not downloading from Mac App Store?

    Hi all,
I have recently downloaded the OS upgrade to Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store for £13.99, and it is't downloading. Since purchasing I have received the bill from Apple outlining I have purchased the item. But nothing has happened as yet. I have looked under purchases in the Mac App Store and it just shows the progression bar...
    79.3 MB of 4.37 GB - Calculating...
I have restarted my IMac many times and still nothing!!!
What can I do?? I have the icon for Mountain Lion in the dock but the only options available I can see are... Pause, or Cancel Download.
    Please help!!!
I am running Mac OS X  version 10.6.8
    Thanks in advance

It looks stuck, and at this point, you probably ought to cancel the download and start it over again. (No worries about paying again... once you buy something in the App Store, you own it for as long as it stays in the store and can re-download it all you like.)
Also, before you consider installing the upgrade, note that there are some things you should do:
    1) Check all your software for compatibility with the new system.
    2) Repair the hard drive with Disk Utility.
    3) Make a full backup of your whole system using Time Machine.
    4) Ideally, make a second full backup of your whole system using something else, like Carbon Copy Cloner. (I consider two backups to be the minimum.)
    5) Wait until you have time to deal with any possible problems that crop up.
    6) Install the upgrade.
Some people recommend erasing your hard drive and installing the new system "cleanly." That certainly helps ensure that you don't have any problems with the new system, but is often unnecessary. I prefer to save clean installs for when they are actually necessary, but that is only an opinion. You can certainly choose to do a clean install if you prefer.

  • Why is Mountain Lion not compatible with my Mac Pro?

Downloading Mountain Lion to my Mac Pro (running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8) fails with this warning" not compatible with this computer". Why is this happening? What is the solution?

Apple didn't drop graphics cards. What they did is force 64b boot mode.  What that means is any Mac that does have a EFI64, Mac Pro 2006-2007 cannot use Mountain Lion at all.  And any machine using certain video cards that don't have 64b drivers are also not able to use it.
It is a shame that they decided to do it, but that is the way of large companies no days.  There is no real reason to upgrade to ML unless you really need notifications, iCloud, and iMessage on your Mac.
What is sad is they removed the ability for people to buy Lion.  So if you didn't go to lion you have already lost some apps in the app store, cause they require Lion or Mountain Lion.

  • Why is Mountain Lion not a free upgrade in Aus?

Just purchased a new macbook air 13" today, and was looking forward to installing mountain lion.  Then I find out that in Aus you need to purchase it, ok so it is only $20 but why does the rest of the world get it free and we have to pay?  This is my 1st mac, were off to a good start..

    Link works but ...
OS X updates, which may currently be downloaded from www.apple.com or through the Mac App Store Software Update, are not included in this program.
So then it takes you to the app store so you can purchase the upgrade..

  • Osx mountain lion not downloading

My download of osx mountain lion gets to 142mb then stops! I've tried deleting the purchase and redownloading still the same thing,
does anyone have an answer for this annoying issue!

Hello, how much free space on your Hard Drive?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive & clear caches.)

  • Why does Mountain Lion stop downloading at 10mb?! HELP!

I keep trying to update my operating system to Mountain Lion. Everytime I download it, it downloads up to 10mb and then restarts back to zero. It does this
three times and then gives me this error: "The application could not be downloaded. Check your internet connection and try again" I have done EVERYTHING I have read online from other discussion groups and websites. My internet connection is fine...I've even plugged my iMac directly into the cable and router....my computer is compatible, newer, and has enough memory....I've tried "unhiding" my update purchase...I've tried with my computer in safe boot mode... I have gone through every troubelshooting step I could find, and can't get mountain lion on! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Mountain Lion not downloading

Hi, I have been invoiced as having purchased OSX Mountain Lion but I keep getting an error message when trying to download it from the App Store. It basically gets to around 50MB as downloaded and then says 'The Application could not be downloaded. The application you tried to download could not be downloaded. Check your internet connection and try again.'
My internet connection is fine and stable. I have 8GB Ram and plenty of free hard drive space. I am currently using Mac OS X 10.6.8
Does anyone know what the problem could be please?
    Thanks
    Matt

Fine and stable, ok.   What is your download speed?

  • Mountain Lion Not Downloading Past 53mb

Mountain lion won't download past 53mb before "calculating" the download time remaining. I've restarted my computer and cancelled and restarted the download. Still freezes at the same spot. Any solutions?

Then the next question is what kind of access do you have, DSL, cable, FiOS, or something else?  The full ML download is almost 5 GB so young can have issues with a slow connection and a file that size...not knowing where you are, can you try an off-hours time for the US west coast?

  • Is your OS X Mountain Lion not downloading?

OS X Mountain Lion is not downloading.  It keeps saying that there is an error or that it will take up to 195 days to download then just says calculating.  It has not moved at all in hours.  My internet is fine.  Maybe the servers are busy?

Click the apple logo and select About This Mac to see if it's on the list.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3761
The following Macs with 10.6.8 or later,  2GB of RAM, and 8 GB of hard space (presumably an additional 15% of free hard disk space will be beneficial as has always arbitrarily been found in the past) will be able to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.8 when it is released in July 2012:
    iMac 7,1 and later
    MacBook 5,1 and later
    MacBook Pro 3,1 and later
    MacBook Air 2,1 and later
    Mac Mini 3,1 and later.

  • Just purchased Mountain Lion - not downloading

I recently purchased a Mountain Lion upgrade for my 2010 Macbook (which came bundled with Lion). I purchased the software, redeemed the code and can see the software under the MacApp "Purchased" tab. There is a "Download" button, but nothing happens when I click on it. When I click "Check for Unfinished Downloads," I get a message saying that all downloads are complete. How do I complete this download?

Is this the upgrade path where they email you a code to unlock the file?
You may have to contact Apple Store main number (web page) & ask.
Or if not available through weekends/afterhours, use Contact web page.
Not sure given the vintage of my stuff.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • OS X Mountain Lion Not Downloading

Trying to download OS X Mountain Lion but nothing seems to be happening - It just says that it is 'downloading' and all I can do is pause it or cancel download.  I've tried both and I've checked all my software is up to date .  It has been saying 'downloading' for several hours now.  I've got Mac OS X Version 10.6.8. on a 13 inch Macbook Pro mid 2010.

I had the same problem.  Took me three attempts to download the software.  Try logging out of the App Store, close out of the App window and then re-openning the App Store and logging in again.  Then click the download button again.  If it did not complete the download it appears to keep track of that and not charge you again.  My last attempt it looked like the download was zero % complete.  When I restarted it, it appeared to recognize where it left off an after a minute or so, started where it left off.
This software is a significant size and will take a bit to download.  Add this to any ongoing internet activity and the capacity of your network and it could take some time.  Hope that helps.

Check in the Purchased tab of App Store. Does it say it is downloading, or is it paused?

  • Why is mountain lion not coming to my iMac?

    Hi
I'm new to the community but have been with apple for a long time. I current own a late 2006 iMac and am trying to wrap my brain around why Mountain Lion isn't supported on the model?
I have recently updated the mac's RAM to 3GB and purchased OS Lion for the reason I wanted to get Mountain Lion when it launched. It runs Lion with no issues at all and I really can't believe there is that much change coming in Mountain Lion, which requires better hardware since the software tweaks don't seem massive?
I could be wrong on the matter, I'm just a little annoyed as I was really looking forward to using mountain lion at an upgrade cost of £19.99 than having to pay out £1000 for a new computer.
If anyone could put in my place and explain why this isn't coming to this iMac please reply?
    Ian

This is what Apple does, now.
When new  technologies become developed by Apple, they do not now want to support a lot of legacy Macs any longer.
They had to do this with PPC Macs because of all the years they used PPC technology and the large installed user base.
Now that the majority of installed users and new users are now on Intel Macs, Apple feels, now, in order to push technology forward that they need to pick a cutoff point at which to end older Mac hardware. Apple is continuing to build on 64 bit technologies in hardware and software. The 2006 model Macs simply aren't up to the challenge as they are only 32 bit architecture computers. Nothing says you have to stay on a current, upgrade path with your Mac, but Apple wants to continue to push technology forward and they do this, now, by obsoleting technology that may only be 3-4 years old!
I think you've been lucky. You've already got six years of productive life out of your iMac and it will continue to perform what you need it perform for a few more years to come.
I just made the switch to Intel with a used, but new to me, 2009, 27 inch screen iMac. I used a 2003 PowerPC tower for nearly 10 years prior to this. That Mac went as far as I could take it!
The only line of Macs that seem to have this kind of longevity, now, is Apple's top of the line Mac Pros.
I think this is so because if it's heavy price point. People and professionals expect to get longer useful and productive life of this line of Macs because they paid so much for these.
Technology is always going to move forward.
Also like to point out that even though you have installed the max. 3 GBs in RAM in your iMac, it is really the barest minimum to run OS X, by itself. You must not have or do any CPU or RAM intense work. You must just use this iMac for the basics (Internet, email, video chat, playing music and movies)? Ideally, the " working minimum" RAM for OS X 10.6-10.8 is really 4 GBs. Just for running the OS alone!
Additonal RAM atop this min. amount will insure the most applications will run a lot smoother.
With the specs of your iMac, I really can't see it running OS X Mountain Lion very well, in any event. IMO.
