Why is mountain lion taking so long to download on my macbook pro? It's been the same for about 30 minutes

I downloaded the app and about 30-45 minutes ago and it is taking forever to download. Is this normal?

Depends on the speed & type of internet service you have which you never mentioned.

Not sure what exactly you did (or not), but it looks as if you should attempt doing it all again, only this time all right and by the book. Many millions have done so, and sure it'll work for you as well.
If you've indeed purchased ML already, you'll find it exactly there in the App Store: under Purchases.

the thing is that when i did the clean install they did check with a hardware test first and nothing was wrong, i guess it was a false-positive, is there anything in the kernel report from which i can say it's either hardware or software related

  • Will Mountain Lion allow APs to be downloaded on my Macbook?

Will Mountain Lion allow Aps to be downloaded on my Macbook?

Mountain Lion contains the App Store, and you can download Apps from it, if that is what you are asking.

My G4 desktop won't cold start. I have to plug in to the outlet for about 15 minutes every time. Can anyone explain why? Otherwise, the desktop runs fine.
The battery is new, and I zapped the little button on the main board once. I've noticed that the power supply plug is a little longer than the usual one for G4, and the AGP slot has an extra slot, which is black and about half inch long.

    Hi Ursula,
the AGP slot has an extra slot, which is black and about half inch long.
I believe that is for ADC Monitor power if you had one, or a card with ADC, like the little tab on this one...
I think your startup problem is bad capacitors in the power supply or on the logic board, and the need to bleed off their charge before they work right to start.

  • I have time machine saving onto two usb drives.  The backup is 4.6TB.  Each drive is 6TB.  Why is time machine only updating one drive?  (The other has been the same for two weeks.)

I have time machine saving onto two usb drives.
The total size of the files being backed up is 4.6TB.
Each external USB drive is 6TB.   So I have 12 TB of space for Time Machine.
Why is time machine only updating one USB drive?  (One drive has been the same for two weeks.)
I have selected both drives in the Time Machine settings panel.
My understanding was that it would do a full backup, and then incremental backups of changed files, getting rid of old copies as needed, and alternate between the two drives.
But it looks like drive A has one complete backup, dated two weeks ago, and drive B is the only one getting action.
There is a red icon on drive one that says the drive needs 120GB more space to do a backup -- which is strange since the whole backup set is only 4.6TB in size, and the drive is 6TB in size...

You could try a clone instead.

  • Why does Mountain Lion take a long time to shut down my MacBook Air when I chose "Shut Down?"  Much longer than before the upgrade.

Mountain Lion takes a long time to shut down.  Much longer then Lion.
    Any comments appreciated.

  • Why is Mountain Lion taking over an hour to download?

I've purchased the Mountain Lion update, but it's taken over an hour to load only 1 dot.  Is there something I should be doing?

I'm replying to my own question to point out my connection is through TimeWarner Cable; normally everything runs fast.
It's worth noting that because Mountain Lion is 4 gigabytes, it's probably many times larger than anything else you usually download. And how fast something downloads is affected by your service level. When downloading most web pages and movies, most people would not notice the difference between, say, a 3 gigabit per second service and a 20 megabit per second service. I, for example, have a 12 megabit connection and that usually means most files seem about equally fast, but a massive system installer like Mountain Lion usually takes most of an hour to download due to its sheer size. I realize I could cut the time down if I paid more per month for a 20 megabit connection or faster, but since it's only occasional that I download something this big I don't want to pay more.
The speed of cable like Time Warner can be (I hear) variable depending on things like how many people are online in the neighborhood. My 12Mb DSL connection is just about always running at its rated speed, but a lot of areas can't get DSL faster than 3Mb or so. In other words there are a lot of reasons why a download as large as an OS X system installer might be slow.
One important thing that can help: Make sure you have minimized the downloading or uploading of anything else on your computer or any other device in the house. For instance, if your spouse is watching a movie on Netflix, your kid is downloading music, and your own computer is uploading an automatic backup to Carbonite or Backblaze, your download won't be able to use the full bandwidth of your connection.

  • OSX Mountain Lion taking a long time to download

I already purchased Mountain Lion and it downloaded fine on my iMac. Now I'm trying to downlad it on my Mac Book Pro and it won't download. It says downloading but it's not moving. Anyone else have this problem?

If you have Mountain Lion downloaded in your iMac, you can copy it to an external drive and install 10.8 in your MacBook Pro

  • Why are my songs taking so long to download?????

I just bought songs from iTunes fromt he first time and they are taking forever to download. I have a 6GB ipod mini and I only have 189 songs on it. Its taken over 2 hours for 11 songs of about 2-4 min. to download. Why is this taking so long and is there anyhting i can do to speed up the process?
    Sony Vaio   Windows XP

Not sure what you are downloading, but it isn't a 4MB music file within 2 seconds.
Even if you could get a true 56K speed (which does not exist) for dial-up, each 4MB file would take you 10 minutes to download.
Most 56K modems are limited to around 40-50K at their fastest.
Your times for the 11 songs seems about right.
    -- 11 songs @ an average of 3 minutes in length & 1MB/min = 33 MB total to download
    -- 33MB @ 56K = 1h23m
    -- 33MB @ 34K = 2h17m
You are probably getting between 30K and 42K of real download speed from the modem.

  • Mountain Lion was unable to complete install because my MacBook Pro's harddrive was locked. Disk Utlity did not work. How do I unlock my HD

Mountain Lion will not complete installation, I have tried erasing HD, locked, copying HD, locked.
    "System/Library/Core Services/Remote Management/Ardagent" permissions differ.
Should be drwxr-xr-x instead of -rw-r--r--. How do I make this change if this is what I need to do.
I need to complete installation or get Mt Lion off my computer.
First time on a forum. Sure hoping for answers out there.

Now I want to know if I can install it to my Macbook Pro and to my Sister's Macbook Air?

You can install it on any computer you own...
Providing the System Requirements are met...
Install Mountain Lion on multiple Computers
Log into App Store on your other Computer(s), being sure to use the Apple ID that Originally purchased ML...
Do you really want to give your sister your Apple ID... ML is only $20... Think about it...

  • I already purchased OS Lion and installed in Macbook pro, how to install the same in other Mackboo?

    1 OS = 1 Device
Buy it and download it again on the other device.
Multiple installs only apply to schools and businesses who have a license agreement to do that. In effect, we've already paid for all the devices.
If you're a school they sent instructions on how to do multiple installs.
    John
I'm sorry but you are incorrect, the licensing for Lion allows buying 1 copy and installing it on All computers you own or control, no limit.
To the OP, go to the App Store, hold option key and select Purchased, you can download it again (provided you are logged in under the same Apple ID)

  • Why are my pictures taking so long to download

I just got a replacement iPhone and my pictures are taking forever to download on the new iPhone. I'm worried I won't get all of my pictures. What can I do??

That is ironic, but apparently Apple server is "locked" for restore process for three days. During that time it may say it is restoring even past the actual restore time. I have seen where someone successfully stopped that process, by changing apple id password, and where that didn't help to stop process. But 3 days from restore start, that should time out.
Credit goes to Randers, he is the one who gave that info about three days, but I was also able to verify that myself.
