why is my Apple Mail's initial screen sometimes changed to half it's regular size? I'm using an iMac PowerPC G4 with OS/X 10.5.8 and Mail 3.6 (936).
It could be remembering where it was when you last quit the program. The Green button in the upper left forces the window to the last adjusted size.

Why won't Apple Mail utilize addresses from Apple Contacts ?
Some of the people in my contacts have multiple e-mail addresses. Using contacts from within Apple Mail I can see these e-mail addresses. I then select the e-mail address I need to use and it is highlighted in blue. However, when I drag that e-mail address into the e-mail it uses the first e-mail address on the list and does NOT use the one that is highlighted.
This worked perfectly with good old Snow Leopard. Why doesn't it work now? What is the procedure for selecting an e-mail address that is not the first one in contacts ?To see if there's a recovery volume installed reboot with the Option key held down and see what volumes are shown that you can book from. If there is a recovery volume it will be displayed. The arrow keys can be used to moved to the desired volume and the Enter or Return key to start the boot.
Yes I did that. I don't no why, but I have no recovery volume.
However, I do have mavericks on a USB flash drive. I booted from the flash drive and followed your procedure. This did not fix my Mail problem.
I notice now that after I drag an e-mail address into the header there is a small down arrow next to the incorrect e-mail address, this allows me to choose from a small group including the correct e-mail. I'm just wondering, perhaps this Is the way Apple Mail works in Mavericks. -

Why does my Apple Mail insert old messages into the body of new emails? The correct sender's name will appear in the "From" column, but an old message from a different sender in the body. This happens randomly. I have an iMac OSX 10.6.8. I recently had the hard drive cleaned, but Apple Mail seemed to be running fine when I set it up again. Could this be a virus? Why does my 3GS have a white screen sometimes, and I have to lock the screen for it to go back to lock screen? Sometimes I have to attempt the lock screen several times, and it still doesn't work. I, then, attempt to restart it by powering it down, and the lock screen will appear again. The display goes out sometimes while I am on a call, and I can't hang up. I have to go through this hole process over and over again.

IPhone apple mail stopped. blank screen ideas?
I use Apple Mail on my iPhone, collecting mail from other accounts.
I have a blocked screen - simply blank and I can't move anywhere.
I've tried removing what I believe was the offending account but that had no effect.
Apart from going back to factory settings has anyone any idea what I might do?Went to cPanel and changed the password. Changed Apple mail password setting and all works fine.
So how / why can a valid working password suddenly become invalid and not working? Literally receiving and sending emails one minute and the next it stops working. mystery. -
Why is an Apple Mail message taking 41kb for a few sentences?
Well - this isn't actually my own use of Apple Mail - but a friend is using it and they're getting these huge messages with a tiny amount of content. Is there a way to fix their emails so that the HTML isn't so cluttered? THANKS!

Because this issue shows up whether or not they use the signature now. But looking at the HTML - it's just intense! It looks like it has to be some kind of subtle bug in Apple's mail program that no one see because you have to look for it. The only reason we noticed it was because they were running into bounce problems sending emails to a Gnu Mailman list with 100kb limit.
If no one on this list can figure it out - we may need to have her bring her laptop to a Genius Bar. I'm at a loss for any other way to proceed. -

Mail doesn't download it.
Mail downloads every other message in the Gmail inbox, but not the ones i've addressed to myself to my Gmail address.
Any ideas for why this is happening?Gmail POP access doesn’t work like a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
2. To make already downloaded messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which causes everything (and I mean everything) still on the server to be downloaded again.
3. The Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. Gmail ignores any requests to delete messages from the server made by a POP client. What happens to the messages on the server after a POP client has downloaded them is determined by Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP > When messages are accessed with POP setting alone. In the case of Gmail (and only in that case), I recommend turning OFF Remove copy from server in Mail, so that Mail doesn’t even try to remove any messages from the server, regardless of whether you do actually want already downloaded messages to be removed from the server after some time or not.
4. Messages sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were received messages. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent — as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want.
5. Messages sent using a POP/SMTP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in #4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. Since they’re on the server nonetheless, already sent messages would be downloaded together with all the other messages on the server if proceeding as described in #2.
6. A particular case of #5 are messages sent to yourself. Instead of putting a copy of the sent message in the server’s Inbox and making it available for download, both the sent and the “received” message on the server are actually one and the same, and hence, cannot be downloaded via POP for the reason explained in #5.
7. Gmail allows POP accounts to be set up in a special way that avoids some of these issues while introducing others. If you only need POP access to the last 30 days of mail, you may configure Mail in “recent mode”, as described in Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices. Configuring the account this way would allow Mail to download messages marked by Gmail as already downloaded (and download messages sent to yourself in particular), but it would also cause all sent messages (not just messages sent to yourself or through webmail) to be downloaded as if they were received messages. -
Why can't Apple Mail filter out junk mail like Gmail?
Gmail does a great job of filtering out spam. Lately, iCloud is doing a miserable job. It appears to have gotten much worse in recent months. Apple's official advice on this is laughably ineffective. Why can't Apple's do as well as Google at this?
How would we know? We aren't iOS developers.

Why Won't Apple Mail 4.1 Accounts with Folders on the Mac Take in Email?

I cloned my first generation MacBook Pro to a new and very hot 3.06 dual core.
I have three mail accounts on Apple Mail 4.1 running on OS 10.6.1. I changed port 25 on SMTP to port 587 as required.
The two accounts with mailboxes on the Mac, Verizon and Yahoo! Plus, can't receive mail. They turn grey and show that little dinky sign. Connection doctor doesn't specifically tell me what's going on, either.
I'd love to have a way to check the POP server and it number, but I can't do that with Apple Mail.
I've taken out and re-created both accounts. I have a lot of email filters and don't want to lose them. I suppose the next thing to do is trash the ~Mail folder bug hold on to the filters. The geniuses at the local Apple outlet say it's something which must be fixed here at my home address.
Verizon is my major account, by far. I have made the required changes on the SMTP port from 25 to 587. I sure wish I could check the POP ports and their numbers on Apple Mail.

Says who? Of course you can check this; if you couldn't then you also couldn't enter those port numbers, which would make no sense at all.
*For Incoming Verizon:*
POP server name is incoming.verizon.net
POP port number is: 110
Verizon does not support SSL, but does require Password Authentication.
You can see both of these in the Advanced tab of Preferences > Accounts
*For Outgoing Verizon:*
SMTP server name is outgoing.verizon.net
SMTP port number is 25
No SSL, but Password Authentication is required.
You can view these in the Account Information tab in Preferences > Accounts
*Incoming Yahoo! Mail Plus:*
POP server is plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com
POP Port number is 995
Check SSL and Pasword Authentication
*Outgoing Yahoo! Mail Plus:*
SMTP server is plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP Port number is 465
Check SSL and Pasword Authentication
Test it by sending email from each account to the other. -
Why does my Apple mail open to a gray background?
When I touched my apple mail icon it opened, then I touched a mail message and it opened. But then when I touched a PDF file in the message it behaved like it was opening the file but instead a gray background appeared and I cannot get anything else now when I open my Apple mail. My apple mail now opens every time to that same gray background.

First, get out of Mail app. Then, double-press Home button, hold the Mail icon at the bottom of the display and after that, press the - button above Mail. Finally, open Mail again. If it doesn't work, hold Sleep and Home buttons until your device restarts, and after the restart, Mail will open properly -
Apple Mail 7.3 - How to change my profile picture?

I checked the old available posts, but none of them really solved my question, so here I go again with my question regarding the small picture shown on outgoing mails in Apple's Mail 7.3.
Currently it shows a default 'green lightning' picture on my outgoing mails in the upper right corner.
I did: System Preferences > Users & Groups, and selected Current User (Admin/myself), and dragged and dropped a new personal picture into the picture box showing the old 'green lightning' default picture which was then substituted by the new pic of my choice. All done.
However, Mail 7.3 after numerous restarts and 48 h later now, STILL shows on outgoing mails the old 'green lightning' pic which I had substituted before via Sytem Preferences > Users & Groups.
Can anybody help?

Thanks for the question. The picture is actually pulled from your card in Contacts. If you open up Contacts and find the card that is associated with your email address, I suspect you will see that the “lightning” picture is still linked to that card. Try changing it there and sending a test email to yourself.

Why is the Apple Mail application slow?
Ever since I started using the Mail app, I noticed that sending messages, pictures, and files are a LOT slower on the Mac Mail application. Then when I go on gmail.com its SUPER FAST...as it always is .

Why won't apple mail save signatures?
When I am copying a signature I create in a mail into the Signatures database, It doesn't seem to save as it was built...sometimes it removes/adds carriage returns. Other times it won't copy the graphics with the text. Is there a way to make sure it stays as I create or edit it?
this is not iPad2 or iOS, i selected OSx Mavericks on a Mac Air...not sure why its not categorized correctly

Why doesn't Apple mail show the content of messages in my Exchange email account?
When I open Mail and click on my exchange account the messages all show no content. I have tried deleting and adding the account, but the same thing happens--no content in the messages.
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Then when restarted, highlight that inbox & choose Rebuild from the Mailbox menu item. -
When updates show on my phone i use Update All. Every week or so it doesnt remember my password so I am constantly making a new one?!! Why?
Why on earth would you create a new Apple ID if the password for an existing Apple ID is not recognized?
After you created a new Apple ID, did you download any apps with each newly created Apple ID?
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection that is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. For all apps downloaded with Apple ID #1, you must use Apple ID #1 and the password for that Apple ID to download app updates available for those apps. The same for any apps downloaded with Apple ID #2, and #3, etc.
