Why is my battery health decreasing so quickly?

Hello. I just bought my Macbook in January. The battery health is decreasing rather quickly. Yesterday it was at 90% health and today it is at 89% health with 130 cycles. I always calibrate it. What can I do to save my battery's health from decreasing so quickly? Why is it decreasing at this rate?

  • Why is my battery health decreasing so rapidly????

I bought a new one like 3 weeks ago .. it has 10 cycles and the battery health has decreased from 98% to 95% in these last few days .. I usually have it connected to Ac power and discharge it like every 4 days.. thats the 10 cycles .. why would the health decrease this much???

Apple battery or 3rd party battery?  Do you mean the overall charging capacity has dropped from 98% to 95%.  Mine has 15 cycles on it and it charges to 100% and if I leave it plugged in for a few days it will drop to 97% and that's perfectly fine.

  • Battery health decreased rapidly after charging problems.

Hy a few weeks ago the health of my mid 2010 MacBook Pro was still 79% which is normal since it has more than 1000 cycles.
    Then following incident happened:
My battery was almost discharged, 30% or so, so I connected it to the AC power. After a while I wanted to see how much it was charged but the indicator in the corner still indicated the same 30% or so, only when I disconnected it it changed to something in the 80% range. I used my computer for a while like that and I noticed that the battery indicator was not chaning. Only when I connected or disconnected the AC power did it update.
I decided to reboot the machine and this solved the problem. I recently noticed however that my battery health now dropped to 63% which seems very much in a short period of time.
I know that normally charger will deliver less current to the battery when it is near 80% in order to prevent overcharging and maintain battery life as much as possible. I wonder however if the drastic decrease could be because of the power management thinking that the battery was only partly charged and thus delivering to much current to an almost full battery? If this is the case do you think that Apple would intervene for the costs of a new battery? I know I would have had to replace it sooner rather than later but this does change a lot I think. My computer is not in warranty anymore and I don't want to pay 49€ for one intervention. There are also no official Apple stores in Belgium and the authorised resellers really don't offer the same service.

    sweex,
since your battery has over 1000 cycles and has 79% of its original full charge capacity remaining, Apple considers your battery “consumed”; they will not intervene for the cost of a new battery. It’s entirely your decision when to replace your battery, but irregular charging results are to be expected for as long as you use your present battery.
If no Apple-authorized service center in Belgium offers the option of changing the battery, then you should let Apple know so that they can find an organization who will do so. I don’t know where you are in Belgium, but this search around Brussels shows seven different Apple-authorized service centers which all claim to service Macs, and the one in Aalst is noted as being a Premium service center.

  • HT4623 why is my battery life dieing so quickly

I recently updated my ipad2.   Since then, my battery life dies so quickly.    I can use it once, close it, then open it again and the battery life is down 40%.    I used to get two days of life before the update.   I closed out all the "Location" request, the auto updates to apps, everything I thought was draining the battery life.  Why?

  • Why is my battery draining down so quickly, since the latest update?

Why has my battery life gone from a once a day charge to nearly needing to keep it plugged up all the time. Since I installed the latest update, my phone will go from 100% charge to 30-40% within 3-1/2 hours and that's just sitting in standby on my desk at work. I have made sure all my background stuff is turned off, including the background refresh thingy. It's a little aggregating and if someone has an answer me and my family would love to hear it. Thanks.

Well razmee209, I have done everything on the list that you sent me and turned off everything I could, that's working in the background, and still be able to function with my phone and the battery is still draining off dramatically. I even did the recalibration to no avail.
I honestly didn't have any battery issues until installed the latest update and ever since it has been bad. It would be different if it were just me but based on what I have read it's happening to everyone. It really ***** cause my battery was unplugged at 5:50am and at 10:40am it's at 40% life left. You all really have created a power but in the last update.

  • Why does my battery run out so quickly

The battery runs out on my iPad 3 really quickly -  even when I close all the apps.  Help.

    Try turning off the following:
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Push>OFF
    Settings>Notifications>Mail>Gmail>Notification Center>OFF
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Fetch New Data>Off

  • Why in the new update 5.0.1 apple don't enable multitasking gestures on iPod touch and iPhone? More why did the battery now drains so quick when using wi-fi?

    i want to be informed!

    - Only Apple know why they di not enble the NT gestures.  It is against the terms of this forum to speculate on such things.
    - I have heard that Apple will release an update to fix the battery drain issue in a few weeks.

  • Why is my battery life going so quickly

I just bought this iPad mini and the battery life goes down 5% in a half hour. How can I get more battery life?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Macbookair battery health problem?

I recently purchased a mid-2011 Air 13' i5 128gb and after 1 week of regular use, the battery health decreased to 95% (iStatPro and Coconut Battery). The battery life is of 5 to 6 hours doing word processing and Safari. The original stat of the bat was 98% and Coconut says that the battery has incredibly 28 weeks of life...
Is it normal? Do i have to concern about?
    Thanks.

    Hi, SP Forsythe,
I finish calibration and the stat is 96% and the current battery capacity rise from 6429 to 6452.
I`m a little bit relaxed about the "problem" after reading this thread that make sense to me.(https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2090860)
that says: "There is no problem. Simply do not give the ±5% to 10% battery health estimate any credence. Ignore it. It will fluctuate up and down, and the fluctuations have no significance whatsoever."
The point is that after spending lot of money in that little thing I don't wanna play with casualties...I'm going to the authorized representative to make a test. I just don't know if I can really trust this guys, after all, it's not good for them to return the product. And the problem looks like not important.
I don't know, let's see whats happen. After all, thanks for the help.

  • Why is my mac's battery life decreased and got slower after upgrading to lion?

    Thank you for helping,
I am using MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) and beginning of this summer I upgraded it from snow leopard to lion (from apple store). After installation my mac got slower,it consumes the battery very rapidly and starting time increased. I searched the reason on the net and this time I did a clean installation. I but the problem insisted. last week i updated to 10.7.5. this time i see that coloured spinning wheel even i logging in. I did all the updates and battery calibration as mentioned in apple support communities but nothing have changed. I don't use any grafic programs etc. I only use safari, firefox, iphoto, iwork and microsoft office for mac. My english and my computer knowledge is not very good. So, if you answer my problem please will you explain as much as simple.
    Thanks anyway.

    A couple of things...
...first, you might want to make certain that your internal drive is selected as the Startup Disk under System Preferences. If it's not, this can sometimes lead to a problem of your MBP 'searching' for a boot drive at startup. Second, you might want to read ds store's article - Why is my computer slow? A very handy reference guide with some good tips.
As to your decrease in battery life - that has been reported by some users as a problem with both Lion and Mountain Lion. See the "More Like This" to the right of this page.
Can't offer any real solutions - read Mr. store's article and see if you can find anything that helps. You might also want to download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store and keep an eye on your battery when you're using it.

  • Why is my battery draining so quickly after updating to Mavericks?

Why is my battery draining so quickly after updating to Mavericks?

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.9 or later.
    3. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    4. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    5. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Why is my battery drained so quickly on my 4S?

Why is my battery drained so quickly on my 4S, even though I don't use apps/Internet excessively.  It says it should last 6 hours using the Internet.

I had my iPhone use 20% of power an hour before I did the following.
1.) Turn off iAds and diagnostics in location settings:system settings.
2.) Turn off Calender in Notifications
3.) If you have any exchange mail accounts ( I had 3 Gooogle accounts one set for mail and calendar, 2 set for mail only. remember when setting Google server m.google.com or it won't push to the phone.) delete them REBOOT your iPhone then redo them then Reboot one more time.
Result: iPhone batt usage is now 4% an hour. my phone went for 19 hours with moderate (streaming, surfing, recording and viewing movies on camera app) on wifi use before getting to 5%
