Why is my book rejected because of the table of contents?

Why is my book rejected because of the table of contents?
I have submitted a chidlren's book, so there are not multiple chapters.  There is only one "chapter" which is teh entire 40-page book.
IBook Author automatically creates a table of contents, which just has one chapter.
When I click on the chapter, it does not go to the next page.  So once someone downloads the book from ibook, they are stuck on the table of contents page.
That seems to be a big reason for why it is getting rejected, although the actual text is cryptic:
6.1.4. Incomplete/Inaccurate Functional Table of Contents
The EPUB's spine in the NCX is used to create the table of contents in iBooks and provides a direct navigational link to the appropriate sections of the book. Since it is a key element to the customer's interaction with a book, all EPUB spines must contain a complete listing of all chapters or book sections.

If you know what makes it not work....fix it.
The text is simply picked out from the nearest applicable cause.

  • Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting to PDF?

Why does IBA not include the table of contents when exporting in PDF? I can seee the TOC in iBooks Author but when I want to see what it looks like in a regular PDF, the TOC does not show up.

Strange question you ask here. Not sure why that is relevant to "why" IBA won't publish a table of contents in a PDF.
But since eyou asked, it's simple, I want to author some books in IBA and also see what they look like - completed - in PDF. Again, any suggestions as to a work around so I don't have to cut and paste back into Pages?

  • How do I get the table of contents to toggle? I opened it while reading one book I had checked out from my library, but it is still open when I start another book. I am using Adobe 4 and Windows 8.1 on my PC.

How do I get the table of contents to toggle? It has remained open since I opened it while reading two books ago. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for your advice. I followed your directions, but came up with the same results. However, I did discover that whenever I open up the iPhoto Library that is already existing on my MacBook a certain set of pictures shows up. But then when I open up the iPhoto Library from the Hard drive another set of pictures shows up. BUT not ALL of my pictures are showing up on the iPhoto Library from the hard drive. At least the last two years of pictures are not showing up?! Actually, it appears that all the pictures are there from when I started using iPhoto about 5 years ago up until around the time that I got my iMac desktop computer and started using that (2 years ago). I have noticed that more recent videos I have made are showing up in a folder on the hard drive, but will not appear when I open up iMovie?! Any ideas on how to access my pictures from the last 2 years off of the hard drive???

Try to reset your phone, hold the home/sleep buttons until it reboots and the apple logo appears, don't release the buttons till apple logo appears.  If no luck there, Resync the book.  Or delete it and redownload it.  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How do I add headers to the Table of Contents?

    Hi there,
I have a book that mainly consists of text boxes rather than inline text. The main title (on each page) is what I want to show up in the table of contents so the reader can just tap the title and jump to the page. How I tried to do this was make the titles "Header 1" and then go to table of contents and add that to the list but it doesn't seem to be working. I am thinking it's because TOC might only work with inline text. Does anyone have any other suggestions for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Caleb

Sorry, I'll try to describe this layout as best I can and if I still need to change it to make it work then I guess that's life.
    Page Layout
    Preface
    Mission Statement
    About the Author
    Acknowledgements
    Using the Manuals
Chapter 1 - Muscles of the Lower Leg
    Soleus Medial
    Soleus Lateral
    Plantaris
    etc.
    Chapter 2 - Muscle Quizzing
    Soleus Medial
    Soleus Lateral
    Plantaris
    etc.
So when your in the table of contents, you can swipe between preface, muscles of the lower leg, and quizzing pretty easily. In preface (underneath the preface title in the table of contents) it shows a list saying Mission statement, about the author, etc.) I want that same list to appear for the pages under Muscle Quizzing.

  • Citing Markers in the Table of Contents

I have created a document with a Running Header/Footer variable and a Marker1 definition in the master pages. The paragraph style for the Running Header/Footer is "Chap". I would like to recall this tag so that it appears in the table of contents. When I try to reference it in the table of contents by using the "Chap" tag, nothing happens.
My question is: Is there any way to pull the data from the marker variable as a "Chapter Title" into the table of contents. If so, how?
    Thanks a million!
    Hill

OK, Hillary, is "Chap" the name of the para tag that is only in the header of the master page?
Or is it the name of the para tag in the text flow that formats the name or number of the chapter?
If the former, it'll never show up in the TOC because it only exists on a Master page.
To be listed in the TOC, the tag needs to be in the main text flow.
Most of the time, when people set up a book file, would use one tag to format the chapter title. Then they would include the name of that tag when they set up the TOC. To put the name of the chapter in the header or footer, you'd format a Running H/F 1 (or any other number) so that it contains a string like <$paratext[ChapterTitle]>

  • How to get only partial text of a paragraph into the table of content?

    Hi guys,
currently I'm working on a manuscript based on the publication manual of the American Psychological Association.
Unfortunately, there is some sort of heading that's placed right in front of further text. Here an example:
+This is my heading.+ Now ordinary text formatted differently should follow.
Does anyone here know, how to get the text of the heading (but not the following text) into the table of content? For as far as I know I can't format the heading as a different paragraph than the following text.
By the way, I use pages'08.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Dennis,
thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately I already tried that and it didn't work. I have created several unique styles. Problem is, I need two diferent styles in *one paragraph* - one style for the "heading", which is consistent to the APA manual not an own paragraph (sorry, not my idea...), and another style for the following text. As my example above shows, the heading is followed by usual text and I may not press return after the heading and switch to a new paragraph..
It has to look exactly like this:
+heading in italics.+ Now heading is followed by usual text without changing the paragraph or starting a new line. Blurb blurb blurb whatsoever blurb blurb. The text goes on an on and an on you see.
I can't format the heading differently than the text (because if I try, the whole paragraph is formatted this way) and so I can't add just the heading to the TOC. Do you see what my problem is? Got any other suggestion?

  • Nothing added to the table of contents

I'm using the "Biography" template (portrait only) in iBooks Author. According to Help,
"By default, the table of contents includes all paragraphs in the book that use the Heading 1 and Heading 2 style, but you can include whichever styles you like."
So I paste some text into the first two pages of my new book. I select a line of text, show the Styles drawer, and click Heading 1 or Heading 2.
I choose Table of Contents from the sidebar, and there's nothing added to the table of contents. I preview it on my iPad. Same problem.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hello Nick,
Jquery may be help you to create own TOC and add custom links into it. Here is some ref for you:

  • Find the Table of Content in Pdf

    Hi,
How can i find the Table of Content in a particular PDF?.
    Is this possible in itext?
    Thanks,
    nithi.

When converting a FrameMaker book to PDF, the PDF may include bookmarks for additional paragraph tags (on top of those specified in the book's PDF setup)
The workaround is to specify PDF Setup in the individual file. For example, open your TOC, select Format > Document > PDF Setup, and make sure that the Heading1TOC, Heading2TOC... paragraph tags are not included in the bookmark setup.

  • How to remove the bookmark from the table of contents?

Hi everyone, I have a question:
How to remove the bookmark from the table of contents in Captivate 6?
    Regards...

Doug, your frustration is making you "bug" gun trigger happy. LOL
    LOL, I suppose I have.
I believe the answer you are looking for is in the publishing preferences: under LMS advanced settings, look for the option: never send resume data.
[can someone please confirm this - I am not at a desktop now]
Anyhow, selecting this option will stop resume data - so the lesson will treat even returning learners as new. Hopefully, this will work for you.
    This works! Thank you again!
*but* Why isn't Captivate asking the learner to make the choice of whether to start over or resume. It does this correctly if the lesson is published stand-alone.
    Thanks again!

  • No paging in the Table of contents

The table of contents of our Ebooks is quite large. We have 24 letters and somehow it is not possible to turn the pages in the table of contents in the iBook application. See
    http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/452008554911e3f6cb3ao.jpg
The table of content end at the letter "P" on the first page but there are still the remaining letters "Q-Z".
Why can I not turn the pages in the table of contents in the iPad iBook Application?

Why can I not turn the pages in the table of contents in the iPad iBook Application?
If this is a true, embedded TOC, then simply place your finger at the bottom-center of the page and scrub (move your finger on the screen) upward to see the rest of the table of contents. Otherwise the page may either be just for display or be coded with hyperlinks to specific anchor points with the this page being truncated for some unknown reason. In the first instance everything is normal. In the second, if you have not pressed the TOC icon and it is available, then do so now and report the page display/truncation problem (IF NOT AN ACTUAL TOC) to product support.

  • How can I edit the table of contents?

I'm unable to do anything to the table of content. I don't want numbers, 1.2 for Chapter 1, Section 2
Is there a way to cjange this or do I just eliminate chapters and sections.

If you choose none and your book isn't complying, you have other issues, such as maybe a corrupted book, or maybe a template that is locked for that attribute.
Try making another, fresh book and then see if it obeys page numbering as you need there.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.0 freezes when viewing/scrolling through the table of contents of a document

I am hoping someone can help me or has experienced the same problem I'm about to describe. I belong to the technical publications group of a fairly large company and I review a lot of PDF documents. I just installed Acrobat 9.0.0 (via CS4 Design Standard) and I've noticed on larger documents where there's a full page or several pages worth of Table of Contents, Acrobat 9.0.0 seems to freeze up when I begin scrolling through the TOC. For example, if I want to use the Text Edit tools or use a sticky note, when I press on an icon, Acrobat will freeze for a good 10 seconds, then will allow you to press the icon. It tends to freeze each time I want to make my next edit or even pressing the up/down arrow buttons to go to the next page. Once I get through the TOC pages, Acrobat seems to function normally--no freezes.
Has anyone experienced this? Would appreciate any kind of advice on how to fix--perhaps there's a patch or update?
I didn't experience any of this using Acrobat 8.0--I never had any real problems with Acrobat until 9.0.0.

Your issue may not be related to a difference between v8 and 9.
I have not had this problem on my computers, but a coworker had this issue. For many documents that others were able to open and scroll through without issue, his computer was freezing and unfreezing.  IT determined his graphics capabilities were not able to keep up with the requirements of working with larger documents and gave his computer a RAM upgrade and a new graphics card. Particularly during scrolling, higher demands are made on the computer to graphically render and re-render page content. Documents giving him problems before became a non-issue.
A new graphics card is obviously a $$$ solution, but you might want to check to see if your RAM meets the minimum requirements and check to see if there are any program updates (Help > Check for Updates).
I have had an issue of pdfs freezing, but not specifically in the table of contents areas. If your document has pages with images that have an unusually high number of layers, it may affect the ability to work effectively in the document.
