You've accidentally selected dissolve instead of Normal in your brush settings on your tool bar?
Or if it's spaces then your spacing been altered in your brush tip shape options on your brush pallet.

Why is the History Brush only painting white on my picture instead of the colors from my text file?

I am working on a project for my online class and am having difficulties with the History Brush. Note that both files are identical in size etc.
1. I created a color text file and saved it with a specific name.
2. I copied an existing photo from iPhoto, as I couldn't import into PhotoShop, and pasted it in a new file. I then removed the white background layer and then saved it with its now specific name and closed the file.
3. I re-opened the Color Text File.
4. I then re-opended my photo.
5. I performed a "Select All" from the menu bar of my active Photo then selected Edit - Copy and then closed my Photo file.
6. From my Color Text File I selected Edit and then Paste from the menu bar.
7. I selected Layer and Flatten Image from the menu bar.
8. I right clicked the background image from the Layers Panel and created a snapshot (which is my photo)
9. I selected the History brush and verified that this also displayed in the gray box associated with the Color Text file within the History Panel.
10. I verified that my photo image was displayed in my work area.
11. I start to fill the photo with my History Brush and the only color I get is White.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

You seem to think that a History State equals a Layer. That couldn't be farther from the truth.

That's not clearly phrased, but it sounds totally wrong. Again, a History State will not just show you what you just pasted, but your entire image, with ALL its layers.
Normally, to use the History Brush one goes back one step in the History Panel AFTER you have created your snapshot, so that you'll be selectively applying the changes to your image as it was before the filter. Here's an example:
You've finished editing an image. Fine. Now you apply an Unsharp Mask filter (to the whole image, of course) and immediately create your Snapshot.
Now you step back in the History Panel to the state BEFORE you applied the sharpening. You make sure your History Brush is targeting the sharpened Snapshot, but you start painting on the History State BEFORE you applied the sharpening.
Now you can start applying selective sharpening with your History Brush in whatever blending mode you wish. For selective sharpening, the History Brush in Luminosity blending mode gives you fantastic results.
Just remember: History States are not like layers at all.
In my opinion that's a lousy instructor who would make you use the Clipboard to illustrate the use of the History Brush. … but that's just me.

Brush paints a dot

For some reason, my brushes only paint on the initial click, and dont move when I drag it around. Anyone know how to fix this? I just got a new computer and Im using photoshop for the first time on my new computer. It works fine on my old computer, and as far as Im aware, I havent fiddled with any brush settings on either computer. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and resetting the tools, but nothing works.

I am using photoshop elements 11, on a macbook pro with the latest operating system (OS X Yosemite). Ive tried it with my wancom bamboo pad tablet, built in trackpad, and a USB mouse.
Edit: All other tools behave the same way.

When using Connection Doctor to see what is could be causing the issue, look for the red dots to let you know what is wrong. Then all you have to do is correct that information. You can double click on the section that is giving you issue and it will take you there. Most issues could be just password being entered incorrectly. Take a look at the article below to walk you through troubleshooting issues with Mail.

I clicked the brush tool, then clicked on color swatch that brought me to the colors and clicked OL... but not able to get the color I need.

Well if I follow him, he creates an Exposure Adjustment Layer.
Then he cranks up the Exposure, lightening the entire body, which he does not want. It's only the head.
So leaving the Exposure set to where he put it, he selects that adjustment layer, clicks on that white thumbnail mask first, then paints
using the brush and black. What this does is "hides" or Masks the exposure effect where he paints, it doesn't paint the picture black.
He finds having to "mask" the entire body a lot of work. So he changes the mask to black by inverting it, and changes the swatch to white.
Then being sure the black mask thumbnail is selected, he paints the head with the white color, punching a hole in the mask so the exposure setting comes through on the face.
Does that make sense?

Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. Any answers out there?

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..

Does it happen anywhere that you use FaceTime or only in your home WiFi network? If it happens with your home network, have you tried power cycling your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Turn WiFi off and on in the settings. Reset the network settings.

is your battery charged? How many songs do you have on the playlist (if you are playing a playlist when it stops)? I know that when the earbud wires are accidentally disconnected from the ipod body, the music stops automatically.

Brush is making dots instead of a line

Last night in CS5 I was playing with the opacity and spacing of the brush, and now I can't get back to a normal brush.
I want just a normal stroke, but the brush is making lots of transparent dots instead.
I've switched to Photoshop Elements 7 for now and everything is fine there, it's only CS5.

Have you tried choosing a different brush preset? (With the Brush tool selected, right-click on your canvas and choose something from the list)
Have you tried resetting the Brush tool? (right-click the brush tool icon in the upper left, next to all the options, and choose "Reset Tool")

yes styles are applied. What does not show up are the container divs - they all have the thin purple borders.
The "Blog Lovers" image shows up but it is inside the #blogindex div - which seems to be invisible because the elements inside #blogindex div are just piled on top of each other. (see below html) This is now happening on all the pages of this site.
(I test a different site in DW and I was able to add divs and borders and content inside divs just fine.)

Please understand I am a frustrated customer like you, , but the availability of movies that have been shown before is dependant on licencing from the rights owners. Sky quite rightly have to pay the film studios for the ability to show to Sky's customers. As I understand it they purchase the right for a period of time, hence when the right expires then it has to be removed. The costing of the movies does reflect on the anticipated popularity of the programme, hence an older less popular movie might seem expensive but if not many people watch and pay that would be right. The apparent silliness of having movies in the store and on demand, allows those people who do not have a movie subscription to rent the movie on a one off basis. I agree that Sky seem to be licencing some programmes for shorter periods and it really upsets me when movies appear in buy and keep but not available to rent only. I recently queried Sky about Fortitude being available in OnDemand until 2022!, then of course found out that Sky owns the rights of the series. I can only say be careful if you are a movies subscriber and wish to watch a movie, not to select the Sky Store version if it is available in the Movies on Demand section. I recently wanted to watch a film that I found in Sky store at a cost, and just to be sure I searched for it and found it was to be shown on Channel 4 in a few days. I don't think we'll ever understand how such decision are made as to how long they licence movies for and how the charging model works with the film studios. Logically you would think that a smallish fee to have available indefinately and to pay the studio fee based on the number of rentals would be better, but that might be difficult to administer and Sky would have to have extra server storage fees, which they outsource. Why is Macbook Mail suddenly redownloading thousands of old emails?

More MacMail weirdness - this time a *major* problem.
This morning, no idea why, Mac Mail has suddenly started redownloading emails I received *years* ago, including spam, trash, and junk mail. It's constantly flashing them up on my screen as "New Messages" and "Incoming Mail". On the Macbook it's putting them directly into the ALL MAIL folder, so at least my Inbox seems clear. However, on my iPad it's putting all these many thousands of emails directly in my iOS Mail inbox, making the application completely unusable - it's just flooded with constantly updating very old junk email and spam.
Nothing has changed on my settings that I know of. Obviously it's a bit of a disaster as the email app on my iPad is now unusable.
What can I do to stop this? Why is it suddenly happening?

All mail is a hodpodge. I would not turn that on or (as you can see) even let it be shown.
