Why is my computer not recognizing my iPhone?

I have an iPhone 4s and it's pretty old. Everytime I connect it to my computer it makes the little sound and says that USB could not be read because it "malfunctioned" and that Windows could not recognize it. Whats going on and what can i do?? Please help!

You have to try a different USB port on your computer if you have one. Hardware problem cannot be solved here in this forum.

  • Why does my computer not recognize my iphone?

My MacBook Pro is not recognizing my iPhone 4. The iPhone is making the beeping sound as it is plugged in, but iTunes does not show it on the left side panel and it is not showing up on the desktop. I have tried using a different cord (the one to another ipod), but it did not solve the problem. The cord I'm using has worked fine to charge it to the wall. Is there a setting in iTunes that I need to adjust in order for it to recognize or do I need to make an appointment at the Apple store to have them look at the iPhone? I bought the iPhone new just two days ago, so it shouldn't have any problems (ha), and otherwise it has been working just great.
Any tips or suggestions? I would appreciate any help I can get!

  • Computer not recognizing the iphone

    The Problem:
All of the sudden, whenever the iphone is plugged into the computer, the computer fails to recognize its presence. However the itunes program recognizes that the phone is plugged and allows syncing, etc...).
    The OS:
    This is a WINDOWS XP
The Goal: Want it to show up in the camera and scanner wizard so the photos can be transferred on to the computer.
    Troubleshooting Done So Far:
    - Restarted the iphone. Computer didn't recognize iphone after this.
    - Restarted the computer. Computer didn't recognize iphone after this.
    - There was an update recently, but it was working fine after the update so this shouldn't be the problem
-Tried plugging into different USB ports (all of which work with other devices). Still not recognized.
    - Tried going to "disk management" to disable and enable the iphone option under "portable media". There was no iphone option.
    - Tried going to the "control panel" and to "cameras and scanners". There was no iphone option.
    Getting Desperate...
    - Tried free software called "read disk" or something like that which is a free iphone explorer application. That worked - could find the photos, but they were in a .dth format so they couldn't be retrieved
If you can offer a work around at least so the goal can be achieved that would be very helpful.
    Thank you in advance!

I had this exact problem it's not your computer it's the software on the phone here's what apple did had me reinstall iTunes 12x then wipe and format my hard drive. They replaced my phone 3x all this started with 3.1 3.1.2 did not fix finally the third phone took and apparently from other post they still have problems if I were you call apple log a case then go into apple store I personally think they eaither don't care or don't know how to fix it. They will have you do every step they have. After you call and log a case try this restore the phone as a new phone not from a back up that has helped some.

  • Why is my itunes not recognizing my iphone 4S?

When I plug in my iphone 4S to my Mac computer, iphoto is the only application that opens.  Why does itunes not open when I plug in my iphone?  Why does itunes not even recognize my iphone?

The problem is that your MacOS and iTunes versions do not support the iPhone 4. The minimum requirements are written on the box.
    Please check out this thread....https://discussions.apple.com/message/16126807#16126807
So first, just get the upgrade to at least 10.5.8.
I'd suggest that you go to 10.6 (Snow Leopard) in the Apple Store but be sure to check that you have the minimum hardware requirements on your Mac.
Then get the latest version of iTunes.

  • Computer Not Recognizing my iPhone (iPhone Perfectly Normal)

Hi, I have a macbook pro and an iPhone 3G. Out of nowhere, iTunes does not recognize my iPhone. I plug it directly into my computer, my iPhone vibrates and says it is getting charge, but iTunes does nothing. No error or anything, just does not show my iPhone. I called Apple and I stayed on the line for an hour and they could not figure it out.
It also cannot be the phone since it works on my other white macbook. The port works fine with other things like printers, etc. It has worked fine ever since I got my phone and I have never had this problem. iPhoto on the other hand actually does recognize my iphone, along with its photos. I have tried re-installing iTunes.
If anyone has any tricks up their sleeve, please feel free to share. I really do not want to have to re-install my OS just for my iPhone..... (probably would not do that)
    Thanks,
    Gabe

You don't need to re-install OS X, or you shouldn't need to do so, but have you tried re-installing the current iTunes version?
If not, I suggest giving this a try. Just re-install the current iTunes version over the existing, no need to delete iTunes first.

  • Why is my computer not recognizing my phone as a device?

My computer is not recognizing that my phone is plugged in... It will charge it, but it won't download my pictures or show that it is even connected on my devices. I have updated all my itunes stuff and restarted my computed. What do I do?

Sometimes, your Apple ID is actually "username" instead of "[email protected]" Try putting the username of your email instead of the actual address, and see if that works?

  • Why is my computer not recognizing my apple id?

My husband purchased a MacBook Pro last week.  We did the setup at the Apple Store and ever since have had continual problems with the computer recognizing, or in this case NOT recognizing, his Apple ID.  The ID and password have been changed 3 times now.  Is this a computer problem, an iCloud problem, or what?  To be honest, I'm pretty frustrated right now and ready to pitch the whole thing out the window.

  • I have a Iphone 42 and want to transfer my photos to my PC why does my computer not recognise the Iphone when I connect it to the pc?

Can any help. I want to transfer photos on my Iphone 4s to my PC, my computer will not recognise the phone when I connect via the USB port to the PC.  Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Do you get any response from the computer when you plug the phone in? I'm guessing that you are going into Computer to see if you find the phone? If you go into Device Manager, do you see any errors in the USB area?
See this support document and pay particular attention to step 5 regarding drivers. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

  • Why is windows 7 not recognizing my iphone? It was working just fine before!

It was working just fine before. Today I plug it in and nothing happens, it doesn't charge from my laptop, or recognize it.  At one point it installed the drivers again and it worked for like 2 minutes but then it went back to nothing! It was going to do the update but then it said something about my purchases and transfering first so I cancelled the update and then the iphone stopped working on the laptop.

Tried that already and nothing I'm still looking up solutions but nothing has worked so far.  I repaired the latest iTunes installer and nothing.

  • I recently got a new computer. itunes recognized my iphone 4. I then changed my password, but it did not change on the phone. I did sync the phone afterwards. How do I get the phones password to change to the new password in itunes. Thank you

I recently bought a new computer. itunes recognized my iphone 4. I then changed my username and password in itunes. I resynced my phone but, the new password did not take. How do I change them in my iphone to match itunes. Thanks

Not Stupid! I should have been more specific. I'm still new to iphones. I changed my itunes password and ID at the itunes store my computer. I'm not having problems with my email. I'm having problems downloading and updating apps (probably music as well). After it asks for the password, a message comes up saying my itunes store password is incorrect. It works on line though. Does this help? Thanks

  • TS1702 Computer is not recognizing my iPhone and it can't be synched

Recently, my computer is not recognizing my iPhone 4 and so it can't sync.  What do I need to fix this?

Be prepared to lose everything on your iPhone but it should be backed up in iTunes so you can restore from your backup.
    Try Recovery Mode... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

  • Why is Iphoto not recognizing my Iphone?

My Iphoto is not recognizing my Iphone - WHY??? It used to be automatic.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

  • Hi my computer(win XP) not recognizing my iphone 4G but other iphones the same comuter recognizing

    Hi
My computer(win XP) not recognizing my iphone 4  and i am unable to connect to itune but the same comuter recognizing other iphone devices
    using the same USB cable

If you sync to another computer the iPhone will be erased and the content replaced with the selected content of the new computer.
You don't maintain a regular backup copy of your computer?
You can transfer iTunes purchases from your iPhone to a computer from iTunes. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • I recently upgraded to ios7 and now my PC is not recognizing my iphone

I am having several problems.  I recently upgraded to ios7 and now my PC (Windows 7) is not recognizing my iphone.  1) I am getting an error message when itunes opens: "Itunes could not connect to the iphone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iphone before it can be used with itunes."  How did it get locked and how do I unlock it without losing my data?  What do they mean by passcode?  I don't have a 4-number code to get into my iphone activated.  In fact, I've never had a passcode.
    2) I cannot download my photos from my iphone onto my computer because my computer doesn't recognize my iphone.  In other words, my iphone does not show up on my computer (no iphone icon, no DCIM folder).
    3) This is a separate issue but it is also very confusing: I went online to check my iCloud and I cannot see any data (icloud.com).  But I know that I set up iCloud when I upgraded to ios7 and it backs up my data every night. What am I doing wrong, am I unable to see my data and photos?
Why is this happening?  It was bad enough that when I upgraded to ios7, I lost my Notes - I have no idea why they didn't return.  But now essentially my iphone is not recognized when connected to my computer and this is very frustrating.  I have read numerous previous postings regarding downloading photos onto the PC and regarding this passcode error and cannot find a resolution, so I would appreciate any help.

    No problem!
