Why is my girlfriend's phone trying to send me iMessages?

Recently, whenever my girlfriend has tried to text me, her phone has attempted to send the text as an iMessage. I have iMessage disabled and have never used it before. After a few days of this I gave in and activated iMessage; however when I am out of wi-fi her phone still sends iMessages. She does not have this problem with anyone else and I don't think anyone else I know has had this problem with me. What is going on?

We figured it out. He sent me a few iMessages and clicked them and clicked send as text message until it automatically brought up text messages and also followed these steps.
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "edit products"
Click on the "x" to the right of the product.
Click "unregister"

Go to supportprofile.apple.com and remove your device. Alternatively you can call in to apple and have Apple look up your phone number. They may be able to remove it from their end.
If it does not show up in either of these places, have the people whe own the other iPhone send you a message> this message will be blue for an iMessage> have them push an hold on that message and select the option "send as text"> this should send the message as green> do this two - four time till it starts sending as green on its own.> this should fix it.

Still tries to send me imessage when my data is off

I'm really new to the iphone and there's something that I'm trying to understand. I have imessage activated all the time, but I turn my wifi/cellular off and on all the time throughout the day. My girlfriend keeps her cellular on all the time but her phone keeps trying to send me iMessages when I've turned my network off. Isn't her phone supposed to recognize that I'm offline and send SMS instead? The way it is now she always sends me texts and thinks they've been sent only to discover later that they weren't sent because it tried to use imessage. And the option to send as SMS in the messages settings is enabled. Please enlighten me!

Yes, as I understand it, the limit is technically 128 bytes, and Hillebrand determined that 160 7-bit characters just nicely fit, on average, into that signaling bandwidth (hard to have people track their message length in bytes, so someone had to make the call of a countable character limit).
I just remember being so annoyed with it on my phones in the 1990's and stupid "predictive" text entry on a standard phone keyboard, as well as having to actually count your characters so you would not get an error on send
P.S. back on one of these even (or one of those old Qualcomm phones, I can't remember the model numbers I had) - although sometimes, I miss those old simpler cell phones.

im sure we can tap on the message and select "send as text or sms"
but is there a setting that says 'if recipient has no data, then send as text' - so its more automated
almost like the setting that says 'if i have no data then send sms'.

I have an iPhone 5s with a data plan but I have iMessage turned off. Everyone I know with an iPhone has no problem sending me texts and they automatically go out as sms. If your friend doesn't want others to send messages via iMessage even when he has wi-fi access he can turn iMessage off in Settings > Messages. My phone won't send an iMessage to an iPod that previously accepted them

So I updated to iOS 7 & so did a friend of mine. I have a 4s and she has the newest version of the iPod touch. Before updating we could send iMessages to each other but now when I message her it goes to her email instead of messages. She can send me iMessages and can receive iMessages from other people. Is it my phone or her iPod and how do I fix it?

It is. She can get iMessages from other iPods/iPhones but mine go to her email

Why do the attachments I'm trying to send open in the body of my email rather than as an attachment icon?

I'm having trouble with attachments. When I select a document to attach, in either Word (doc) or pdf, sometimes the whole file opens in the body of the document, instead of just appearing as an attachment icon. I can't figure out why this only happens sometimes...seems to happen more with documents I've scanned in and saved as either Word or PDF files - what might I be doing wrong?

There is nothing wrong. I never understood why Apple Mail shows attachments randomly as icon or inline documents or a mix of them.
If you ctrl+click the PDF or Word document you should be able to choose from the menu, show as icon.
If you want to permanently show the attachments as icons, close Apple Mail, open Terminal and issue the following command
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool yes

Im trying to send an iMessage and it use to work but now it doesn't send. Did this person block me? Ive tried from iPhone 5, iPad 2 and macbook pro. I can send an SMS or it looks like I can send it. because it doesn't say not delivered.

I have a friend that I use to be able to imessage with. We havent talked in a long time. Now when I send message from all my devices it will not send. Did he block me? Or is there another reason it wont send.

Have you tried calling or sending a letter? Keep it simple, "i haven't been able to reach you in a while, and wanted to see if your OK." Who knows maybe he's thinking if you blocked him. And if he is blocking you, don't waste a moments more time on him.

My phone won't stop trying to send iMessages to a Blackberry user

My friend experimented with the iPhone 4S, but returned it a week later for another Blackberry. Now my iPhone won't stop trying to send him iMessages. I've tried deleting his contact info (from everywhere, including the iCloud), and re-entering it. I've also tried deleting all previous text/iMessage conversations with him. Restoring, resetting, etc. Nothing has worked. Any thoughts/suggestions?

You don't have much choice, do you? You're either going to have to restore the software or take it to the Genius Bar to see about getting that button fixed.

When I send a message to the same iPhone user in the UK, sometimes it sends an iMessage and sometimes it sends it as a text. Anyone know why?

It always seems to happen after the fact, also. I'll check it later and it shows up green instead of blue. And, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm connected to wifi or not. What can I do to make sure they are all iMessages? Or at least so I can make the decision not to send?

I believe that if you turn off "Send As SMS: off in the settings, it should only attempt to send as an iMessage and should fail if iMessage is unavailable. It tries to send an iMessage a few times and then if unable, it will send as an SMS if you have that turned on.

Phone will not send Imessage

I am sitting here with full wifi signal, yet my phone will NOT send an iMessage. I can click the message and it will send as a text but I can't send the iMessage to others with iPhones. Please somebody direct me on how I can fix this issue.

A phone reset or going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings resolves the issue.
iOS7.0.3 will be available next week that resolves this issue.

How do I get phone #'s to come up instead of email addresses when trying to send a MMS?

I just got my Galaxy S4 2 days ago and was trying to send a picture from my gallery as a text message to a friend. I know I can start from messaging, and then attach the picture, but I was already in the picture, so clicked on the messaging icon from the picture, and when I started typing my friend's name, it only brought up her email address, not her phone #. I didn't want to email her, I wanted to send it to her phone as a text message. The only way I could do this was to start typing her phone #, instead of her name. I don't know a lot of people's phone #'s by heart, so I don't understand why it isn't bringing up phone #'s when I start to type the person's name? I had the Droid Razr before, and that's how I always sent pictures. When I started typing a name it would bring up phone #'s and email addresses to choose from. If anyone knows how to change this, I would love to know how!

Try this:
Click on the Contacts icon
Select the Menu key
Select Settings
If the Only contacts with phones is checked, uncheck it

Why did my old cell phone get added?

Why was my old cell phone, that isn't active anymore, registered as my skype to go number? I haven't looked into this feature enough to know if I want to use it or not. And I certainly do not want information auto added with out my permission.

I have the same problem. In addition, my old cell phone was in a different country (Luxemburg) ! I tried to add my current phone, but the system forces the previous country and I cannot enter my current country (France). Anyway, I noticed that Skype To Go is not even available in France, so no big deal. But it is not correct that the old number is still around and is not removable.

i have contacted 3 online and also been into a 3 store they tried mysim in their handset and it worked but when on of the workers tried theyre sim it said "no service" as usual? they said the phone reads the sim because it asked for the workers sim code?
