Why is my IMac screen see through?

My IMac screen is kind of see through, when I do anything on it, it stays on the screen faintly even though I've closed the application or whatever, and the screen itsef is much fainter than it used to be, like the colors arent as strong as before.
Is there something I can do to fix it?
Thanks!

Hello Nina,
Thank you for the details of what you are experiencing on your iMac.  I found an article with some information about what you are noticing on your iMac.  I recommend reviewing the following article for more information:

Why does my Imac screen slide and I lose my screen ~ It goes back to my desktop.
Then sometimes my screen goes to full screen without me doing any commands, and I don't know how to get out of it without going to force quit and starting all over.

    Hi,
When it goes full screen try moving the mouse up to top right of scren & see if there a double diagonal Arrow to click on.
On the other see if it's the silly implentation of Spaces/Mission Control/Expose in ML...

  • Why has my iMac screen gone to stripes. I am using Yosomite

why has my iMac screen gone to stripes and nothing else. I am using Yosemite

Could be the card or the screen.
    Courtesy BDAqua:
Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see double lines it's a Video card/VRAM problem, if the lines do not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.
If your screenshot isn't showing the stripes here, it will most likely mean the screen, LCD panel, is the problem.

  • Why does my iMac screen turn mauve?

Occasionally my iMac screen turns a mauve colour. I have also noted that since updating to 10.10 the screen does not wake up after the system has been put to sleep. I know the system wakes up because I can hear my LaCie drive start up. What could be causing these things to occur?

    Hi, Papa_Tech.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Mac fails to wake from sleep.  Here is a troubleshooting article that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.

  • Why does my iMac screen keep switching off / going black?

After about one half hour of use my new iMac screen switches off / goes black.
The screen can be switched on by pressing the power button on the back on the machine a few times. It remains lit for about 20 seconds. This can comntinue for about half an hour when it stops switching off or when I give up.
I have conrtacted Apple but they have been unable to solve the problem.
The machine is just not fit for purpose as I cannot use it for work.
It appears from the internet that this is a recurring imac problem.
Please, what am I to do?

Call AppleCare (number is in the manual) and then request to speak to Customer Service. Be patient, organized and articulate and they will transfer you. When you get to speakt to someone then explain your problem and ask for their help. You should have all your receipts, invoices, trouble ticket numbers etc available for reference.
You can also take to an Apple Store in Spain, while this may not be convenient at least then an Apple person can see the machine and work on it.

  • How to mirror iMac screen wirelessly through a mac mini connected to an hdmi port of HD TV?

I have a new Mac Mini connected to a Sony HD TV. On the same network but in a different room I have my iMac. I can control the iMac with wireless mouse and keyboard from the same room where the TV and Mac Mini reside. I would like to work on my iMac but use the HD TV as my monitor so I can show slideshows and iMovie projects without transferring files to the MacMini first. Is it possible, and if so, how do I go about setting it up?

Your iMac likely supports a higher resolution than the TV does. The maximum standard TVs today use is 1920x1080, and if your iMac is an Intel Core i3 or i5, its own display is at least that high of a resolution. Which model of iMac do you have?
If your iMac is running at least Leopard (10.5), then both machines have Screen Sharing built in. It can be accessed from the Finder, but as often as you would like to use it you should go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices and drag it (the icon) to your Dock. That will create the shortcut to get to it easily. As I noted before, the built in Screen Sharing VNC software doesn't do full screen, but third party VNC software can. Both machines do not need to be using the thrid party VNC software, just the one viewing - in this case your Mac mini. Chicken of the VNC is a popular free one, fairly easy to use:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
For more info about how to set up Screen Sharing and how to use the included application:
    http://mac.appstorm.net/how-to/os-x/using-screen-sharing-in-os-x-leopard/
Note that you will have to use the settings in System Preferences, regardless of what VNC software you use. Both systems will need to have Screen Sharing settings enabled.

  • Why does my iMac shutdown halfway through loading on startup?

I get a chime then the Apple logo appears, then the progress bar gets to about halfway, then it shuts down.
    Specs
Late 2009 27" iMac Intel Core Duo 3.06ghz
128GB Samsung SSD installed in place of Optical Drive.
    Stock 1TB HD
12GB RAM, 2x4GB and 2x2GB. The 2x2GB sticks are the stock RAM.
    OSX Yosemite.
      Background Info
I haven't used the iMac in about a month as I have a Macbook Pro from work that I use primarily.
I turned on the iMac yesterday and the Startup was VERY SLOW, like 5 minutes.
I looked at some forums and saw that I should make my SSD my primary boot drive. I did this and restarted but the boot time was the same.
Next I shutdown the computer and restarted the SMC. This made the boot time a little bit faster, maybe 2 minutes but it still wasn't acceptable.
Next I reset the NVRAM 3x and this made a significant improvement. It was now at about 25 seconds.
When I finally logged in I opened up Photoshop and Firefox and they both just bounced on the task bar for about 2 minutes. Photoshop finally opened but Mozilla did not. I looked in the Activity Monitor and I kept getting CrashReports that were taking up 75% of the system.
I did some googling and it seemed like I needed to run First Aid on the SSD.
I went to Disk Utility and tried Verifying the Disk and it gave me an error saying that it could not be verified and that I would need to open it up in Recovery Mode.
I restarted the computer and held down CMD+R and nothing happened, it just stayed on the white screen. I held down the power button until it shutdown and the powered it back up holding option. It showed that I did not have a recovery partition (even though I remember having one in the past). It did show my Samsung Drive.
I clicked on the Samsung Partition and it loaded about halfway then shutdown.
I tried just starting the computer up normally without holding anything down and it would do the same thing.
I decided that I didn't have anything on the computer that I desperately needed so I was just going to reinstall Yosemite.
I downloaded Yosemite on my MBP and made a bootable USB drive for it. (This took about 4 hours).
I went back to my iMac and plugged the USB drive in, turned on the iMac, and held down option (expecting that it would give me the option to boot from the USB Yosemite Installer) and it chimed, the apple logo came on, the loading bar got to halfway, and it shutdown.
I tried this about 5 times and it did the same thing.
I tried resetting the NVRAM and it just shuts down.
I've tried Safe Mode, resetting the SMC, option, etc. Nothing works.
I left it unplugged over night and tried starting up this morning and I get the same thing.
Yesterday I took out the 2x4GB ram sticks and made sure the stock 2x2GB sticks were properly seated. I tried resetting the NVRAM and it still loads halfway and then shuts down.
I don't know what else to try. When I used it more often a couple of months ago it was very fast upon start up and running memory intensive programs like Reason, Autodesk Inventor, Parallels, Ableton Live, etc.
I am very comfortable taking the computer apart I just don't know what to look for.
    Thanks for the help,
    Kyle

  • Why does my iMac screen flicker only when using Safari? It doesn't happen with Firefox.

Yesterday, I had an issue with OS X, causing my screen to go black upon waking up my pc. Come to find out through the Apple Forum, that when the OS X was originally installed, it was not a complete install. Once I received the fix solution, completing the OS X install, (10.9.3) everything was back to normal, so it seemed.
Now, when using Safari, the whole page flickers and so forth, including the address bar. I never had problems with the screen prior to this. Also, it doe not occur when using Firefox.
Is there a fix for this? or an adjustment that can be made. This never happened prior to the OS X install, which was about 2 months ago.

    Troubleshoot Safari extensions ..
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Why has my iMac screen become so dark with Yosemite?

The monitor on my (early 2009) 24" iMac used to be overly bright.  I had to use Shades to darken it and make it tolerable.  Now, after installing Yosemite, it is way too dark and I have no way to make it brighter.  The Display brightness control is of little use.
    Any comments are most welcome.
    Thanks!

    Hi crazy,
The computer is in a room with a South facing window directly behind the computer monitor.  The shades are usually closed due to the contrast from the window.  I used the Mac app Shades for years to darken the monitor and it worked great.  However, as I mentioned earlier, when I upgraded to Yosemite, the screen screen brightness was reduced by at least one-half of what it formerly was.  I did upgrade Shades, but it is of no use now since its purpose was to darken the monitor.  Too bad it cannot brighten the monitor.
I am not certain exactly what you mean my your last statement.  Perhaps I answered it in my above comments.  Let my know if you need more info.

  • Why does my iMac screen continually wake up when streaming movies?

Whenever I stream a movie from my iMac to Apple TV, my iMac attempts to wake up every few minutes.  It is in the same room as my tv, so it is distracting especially at night when the login box constantly pops up.  Until a few months back I never had this issue.

The computer needs to wakeup in order to play the movie and interact witht the files in your iTunes library.. it's either this or the appleTV will get an error.. and you'd need to walk over to the computer and wake it up manually.. i have a mac mini and i just turn my screen off.. not sure if there is a way to just disable the screen itself on a iMac but that is what you want to do.. but the iMac really does need to wake up to interact with the appleTV.. as i said.. you can have this happen automactically or the other option is to manually walk over the the computer and wake it up everytime you appleTV gets an error because you computer is asleep..

  • Why does my iMac screen seem to be flickering everytime I launch an app since Mavericks update?

Am I the only one who is having this flickering thing (for 1 sec) when an app is launched? This only started right after the Mavericks update, I don't know if it's iMac related or if everyone who updated to Mavericks got this.

Do you have any external drives attached that may have an older version of iTunes on them?
I wonder whether reinstalling (one more time) using the standalone installer rather than the App Store may help get round the problem:

  • Why does my iMac not 'see' a hard drive now?

    Hello
Having had all sorts of problems with my iMac 24" (2008) - mostly spinning beach balls - I decided to format and reinstall from scratch.
I used disk utility and erased my hard disk (probably incorrectly!) and now I'm stuck.
I've used my original Leopard install disk and can get as far as 'Select a destination' - but no disk appears on which to install.
When I go back to Disk Utility - - no hard drive is showing  at all. (just shows Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-  and the install disc).
Before I take to a professional repairer, can anyone make any suggestions of action I could try?
    Any help welcomed!  TIA
    David

    Hi BDAqua
    Thanks for responding.
After my post, I went for a walk by a local river, giving my iMac (and me!) time to cool down. When I returned, I switched on my computer ....... and this time the disk DID show up! Duh!  <shakes head>
Long story short, I installed Leopard, then Snow Leopard - updated - and then successfully installed Mountain Lion, which I am using now.
    However, having read here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2433700?start=0&tstart=0
I supect that it is just a matter of time before my hard disk 'gives up the ghost'!
All data I value is stored elsewhere - I'm hopefully ready for anything!
    Cheers

  • HT2807 why is there a horizontal line across my imac screen?

why is there a horizontal line across my imac screen?

Not sure exactly which model your iMac is..?
see > How to identify iMac models
Sadly display lines generally indicate a problem with either the Display or the Graphic's Chip.
To check, take a screen shot of the display using the (Command Shift 3) keys and open it.
If the line is only seen on the Display and not in a screen shot, then it would most likely indicate a Display problem.
If the line shows up in a screen shot, then it would most likely indicate a Graphic's Ciip problem.
