  • Problem syncing old emails from Outlook to Mail using Exchange 2010

    HI,
I recently switched from Outlook 2011 to Lion Apple Mail.  I am set up for email through my comany's exchange server.  When I set up Mail, all of my folders showed up on my Mail account successfully but it will only sync back the last 60 days of emails.  I know these old emails do reside on the server.  Is there potentially a setting on mail to adjust how back it syncs?  If not, can someone suggest a work-around.  I would only have to do this once.
    Thanks

When transferring a locally stored message that was recieved a year ago to a server stored mailbox with an IMAP account - doing this today for example, the recieved date for the message is changed to today's date - at least with an email client used to access the account.

  • Why do I keep receiving old emails??

Everytime I open my Mac mail application it repeatedly receives old emails that are now up to a month old. I've tried creating new rules to no avail.
    Help please?
    Thanks!
    1.3.11 (v622)

You've tried creating new rules so this means you have existing rules to automatically sort received messages to user created mailboxes?
If so, this is likely a problem with one the existing rules.
    Copied from Mail Help:
To find a problem rule, deactivate all rules and then turn them back on one at a time until the problem reocccurs. Also look for rules whose actions move or copy messages to the inbox or to a custom mailbox located in the inbox. These actions create a loop, so that each time a message is received in your inbox, the rule is activated and the message is moved or copied to the inbox again. Edit the rule to move or copy messages to a mailbox outside of the inbox.

  • Why does iTunes always sync old apps back to my phone when restoring from back-up?

I can't seem to stop this happening - I delete apps frequently from my phone as I find I have no use for them. I regularly sync my phone to iTunes and I expected this to mean that old apps would be deleted from there as well, the same as contacts and photos are modified. But whenever I've restored from a back-up, I end up with all my old apps back on. I'm currently restoring from a back-up and it's syncing 1560 apps back onto my phone! I only had 346 on there that I wanted! But obviously I do want it to sync apps back on because I really can't be bothered to download 346 apps again, but why can't it just sync the apps back on that were present on my most recent back-up? This seems to be one of the many dumb things that iTunes does...

Syncing apps is a transfer/copy process, not a true sync process as with contacts, and the same for all iTunes content.
All apps on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library. If you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, after downloading an app direct with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically along with being selected the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. If you delete an app direct on your iPhone, the app should be deselected automatically under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so - so the app won't be reinstalled on your iPhone with a following sync with iTunes. Your selections under the various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes is included with your iPhone's backup.
No iTunes content in your iTunes library will ever be erased via the iTunes sync process.

  • Syncing old email between computers

I have an old eMac running Tiger (10.4) with a buch of of email files on it.
I'd like to move these files onto my current system, a MacBook running Lion (10.7).
Ohter than creating some temporary systems, using Leapord & SnowLeapord, to move the data
is there a simple way I can move these files onto the newer "Main" system so I can Retire the eMac?

A note about Migration Assistant. when you set up a new Mac, you need to run Migration Assistant before setting up a user account: then it will set up a user account with the same name as the one you are migrating from and transfer your Home Folder with all its documents and data, including preferences, so that you can resume work very quickly. (It's probably better not to let it migrate applications, but to do that yourself).
If you set up a user account first, when you run Migration Assistant it will create a new separate user account and migrate all the data to that, leaving your with the issue of having to transfer everything to the account you want it in.

  • Why does Mail keep reloading old emails into my inbox as if they are new?

Ill be doing homework at like 2-3am and all of the sudden Mail will say I have 157 new emails in my inbox. When I go look at them, it just reloads all the messages in my gmail inbox into my Mail inbox. To prevent it from happening I have to keep moving my gmail messages into folders. Is there anyway to fix this?? Maybe it is the way I have it set up??? Someone please help, it happens like 3 times a week at least and is super annoying!!!

    Travis,
You have posted in the Mail & AB forum for Leopard, and not Snow Leopard, and the system info posting below any of your responses reports 10.5.6 -- you should correct the latter.
For some using Snow Leopard and using Time Machine, this has been leading edge issue, and one that hopefully will be dealt with by the next update to SL. What seems to happen with Mail 4.x and use of Time Machine, is that the file that in normal use prevents duplicate downloads gets restored to an old version, and thus Mail does not know it has downloaded the messages previously. Purging the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3 file will cure briefly (after enduring one more download of all messages on the server, but the problem will return because of Time Machine. Are you using Time Machine?
As for housekeeping, if you quit Mail, and then shut down your laptop (or maybe even if only putting it to sleep by closing the lid), then Mail housekeeping tasks, which include keeping the index up-to-date do not get finished, and then can be problems. Now that I know you are using Snow Leopard, I am less suspicious of that.

  • Why does Mail pull in old emails from my windows live email address?

I've got various active e-mail addresses from new and old internet providers, and if i use them they will continue to work, (so i'm told)
but the one i've got from when i had a windows phone (i know.... i was er... experimenting ) and for my xbox account, just seems to
pull in old e-mails (a week or more, e-mails i've already had through other e-mail addresses) noticed it more this xmas,
as the sales had ended by the time i received an e-mail from windows live,
    does anyone know why?

I had a email address in my my phone , and want to change but when pull up download app the old email automaticly comes up how do i change?

All apps that you have purchased or downloaded are tied to the apple id/email that you use to buy it.  That's why it is showing your old email when you are trying to update the app.

  • HT204053 Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 2.1 Computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I am no longer able to renew my MobileMe account, Why? Maybe I should look into PC Computers in the future!

Why does Apple kick their old subscribers under the bus? I have an iMac G5 1.9 and 2.1 computer using Leopard 10.5.8 system, and I cannot renew my MobileMe account, why? Is Apple incapable of keeping their old subscriber accounts active and still update their system? Maybe I should look into buying a PC in the future? I eagerly await your reply. Thanks

MobileMe is being terminated in two weeks. If you have files on your iDisk which are not also on your computer you need to be downloading them as soon as possible or you will lose them.
You can migrate to iCloud and set Mail up manually to receive your @me.com mail:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
You will not be able to sync calendars or contacts. If you want to have general online file storage you will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options:

  • HT4191 why do you need yet another email address to sync notes

Is there a way to sync ipad notes with an imac desktop without opening up yet another unwanted "email" address?  Why do compaines constantly demand that you open up email addresses through all of them?

Notes are very special, their sync is done by IMAP(mail) server that syncs our emails. In order to sync notes you "have to" be connected to that IMAP and mail account is "your connection". BTW mail "ON" button will not sync your emails - it only syncs email settings between devices, like server rules, blocked servers, etc. It will not reflect on other icloud stuff, but what it will do is move your notes sync from current  sync ( if one exsits) to different. For example you notes currently can be local (on my phone), Yahoo or exchange like google. (you can check that by going to settings - mail contacts and calendars- and under your mail accounts you will see small "contacts" "calendars" and if you will see "notes" that would be your current syncing IMAP.

  • HT5361 I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system.  How can I do this by year instead of laboriously doing it one message at a time?

I want to permanently remove years old emails from my IMac Mountain Lion system.  How can I do so by year rather than slowly removing one message at a time?  Many thanks.

Another option is to create a smart mailbox that includes emails with date received before a desired date.
Then, select one message in the Smart Mailbox and cmd-A to select all. Then delete.

  • HT204053 i changed my email address (apple id) on my pc, but now my ipad is asking me for my password with the old email address...and not accepting the old or new password.how do i change it/sync it?

I changed my email address (apple id) and password on my pc, but now my ipad mini icloud is asking me for my  icloud password with the old email address and not accepting the old one or the new one..how do i change it / sync it?

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I had a data migration done from old iMac to new iMac, how do I use that file to find my old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

I recently had a data migration from old iMac to new iMac 11.2
How do I use that data file to get old email contacts, Safari bookmarks, etc ?

FireWire cables are dirt cheap and that's how you should be doing the migration. You might have to start over, wiping the new machine's HD, and restoring the software as described in the Everything Mac manual that came with it. See Best Practices and Setup new Mac for more details.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
When you do this, you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Hello,
My old emails address which I have used as my apple id for 10 years is being made redundant. I have changed the email address to a new gmail one and this is my new apple id. But my iMac has not recognised this. It keeps saying it wants the password for my old email address. I have seen some advice on these forums which suggest signing out of iCloud and then back in again. But when I start doing this it asks me if i want all the photos deleted that have not been downloaded onto the mac.
I have had an iCloud account for quite sometime and I'm afraid of losing everything in my cloud if i sign out and sign in with a new id.
    Is this fear realistic?
I know I can change back to my old email, sign out and then sign in wight he new one...
    Please help!

This did not work for me.  My old email account for iCloud still pops up on my screen every time I open my macbook.  I've deleted it, reset it, every thing I can think of and it still shows up.  I think six months of this is more than enough time to wait.
