Why is my iMessage sent out as my email address not my phone number

All my iMessages are not sending out from my phone number, they are sending out as my registered email address, how can I fix that?

Go into Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and see what is checked there. Is your phone number checked? It will be grayed out and you cannot choose it from there, but if it isn't on, then you need to turn iMessage off for a minute or so and then turn it back on and see if it activates. You may also have to do this with FaceTime. If iMessage will not activate, then see this support document for troubleshooting iMessage activation. iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation

Because you have it set that way.
Settings > Message > Receive At > Caller ID
    Change to your phone number.

  • IMessage suddenly sending messages from email address rather than phone number

Recipients of my iMessages have reported that it has switched from being from my name/number to being from my email account. I have not changed any settings and the iphone 5 is up to date with all updates and has been restarted several times. I also went into iMessage settings and send&receive settings and tried a few things (including turning iMessage on and off, signing in and out of my account, etc), to no avail. Why is it suddenly doing this and how can it be corrected?

    Hey Elfinator,
There are a few steps you can try to resolve this. First, turn iMessage off completely in Settings>Messages, and restart your device by fully powering it down, then power it back up. Once complete, turn iMessaging back on and see what happens. Again turn iMessage off, restart device, and turn iMessage back on. You'd be surprised what that can fix.
Also, if you have both your phone number AND the apple ID selected in send/receive in settings>messages, and you aren't connected to data at that moment, the iMessage from whoever is messaging you will be sent to the Apple ID only, hence why the conversation will begin using the email. This is something that is pretty common, and if you don't have a data plan, or if you turn your data off often, this will continue to happen.
Hopefully my first step will refresh the issue, resolving it!
    Have a good day!

  • Text message is showing sent from my email address instead of phone number

I just reset all my settings on my Iphone 4s and now when I send text messages my friends say it is coming from my email address not my phone number. Why is that? Any advice on how to get it back to normal (from my number not email?)
    Thanks in advance!!!

I assume your phone is using your phone number. Select an E-Mail also. Under the Select Area a new Area should show up offering to choose whether to use the number or the E-Mail to start new conversations. Pick the Phone number. Go to iMessage and start new conversations.

  • My imessage is hooked up to my email and not my phone number.  I delete my phone number and are unable to click on my phone number because its greyed out.  PLEASE HELP ME

my imessage is hooked up to my email and not my phone number.   i deleted my email and am unable to click on my number because its blacked out.  WHAT DO I DO?

But my whole issue is that I can't get on my moms phone to turn it off. I'm asking even if I make a new Apple ID and under send and receive click on these two options,
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-25x-xxxx(my number)
[email protected](new Apple ID I made)
will my messages still be sent to my moms phone even though I'm using a different Apple ID.  because on hers, it has her number, my number and her Apple ID  all turned on. If I'm not making sense I'll try and explain better. But currently her send and receive looks like this:
    send and receive messages at:
    -248-79x-xxxx(her number)
    -248-25x-xxxx
    [email protected]

    Hi hectorness12!
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I have found an article that can help you with troubleshooting your iMessage issue. The article can be found here:

  • Why are my iMessages coming up as my email address?

So starting about 2-3 months ago, I have been sending iMessages to people from my phone whom I have sent them before and know I am an existing contact in their phone.  Suddenly I started to  get the same reply from most of them:  "Who is this?"  Of course, I identified myself and people responed "Why is it coming up as a strange email address?"  I would ask if it was coming up with my apple ID, which is was.
So why is this happening?  I did upgrade from a iPhone 4 to a iPhone 5, but I know that wasn't the cause, because one of them was a coworker who started long after I got my 5.  I didn't do anything different that I know of, and it has happened before and after iOS 7.X.  It has becoming very annoying, especially when it is to my boss, whom I usually don't text, and he hasn't added my personal email address to his contacts.
I do have an iPad Mini; however, I have messaging disabled on it.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
    Thanks.

You might try this Settungs>Messages>Send and Receive>Start New Conversations From>check your phone number

  • IMessage sent from email address rather than phone number...

I'm having similar problems with my iMessage update under iOS 5.  When I send text messages to other iPhone users, it appears as iMessage and from my email address rather than my phone number.  I went into Settings > Messages > Receive At, but there's no option to add my phone number.  It keeps showing my Apple Account, which I registered under for iMessage and iCloud with my email address.  It only allows me to add another email address.  From what I can tell, non-iPhone users are still receiving my text messages from my number like regular.  If I turn iMessage OFF, I'm sending regular text messages to all users.  Anyone have a fix yet?  I'm wondering if this was an Apple goof that won't be resolved until the next iPhone update.

What I am curious about is, how do I know if what I'm sending is coming from my number as a text message or as an iMessage with my Apple ID.  I'm really asking this specifically because, I have friends overseas who I have been texting..now we have iMessenger.. but how do I know it's not being sent as a text instead (therefore costing me money)? Just because it's being sent using their email?
I've used a Blackberry before, and they have their texting & BBM as two seperate applications with two seperate icons...kinda hoping Apple had done the same  here :/
Any help would be great thanks

  • Why does my iMessage use my email and not my phone number?

I upgraded to IOS 5 recently and my friend wondered why he had to use my email to message me and not my iPhone's number. My carrier is Verizon and I bought my iPhone 4 in January. Does anyone know how to fix this? I already have done a system restore and that did not work.

Go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number instead of your email address.  If you don't see your phone number and/of you don't see the Caller ID setting, your phone number is not yet activated with the iMessage server (and you will notice that is says "waiting for activation" under iMessage).

  • My imessage is sending through my email address not my mobile phone number, and when i go into settings to change it my phone number isnt a option

If i log in and out of my apple id, my number comes up as an option but i wont let me select it. i have reset my network settings multiple times, and restored all settings as well and nothing is working

I assume your phone is using your phone number. Select an E-Mail also. Under the Select Area a new Area should show up offering to choose whether to use the number or the E-Mail to start new conversations. Pick the Phone number. Go to iMessage and start new conversations.

  • My phone was knocked about and now iMessages are received by my contacts from my email address and not my phone number. 1- Have imessages always been sent by my email address and i somehow over looked this? 2- if not how to change it back?

diesel vdub or ANY uncertified/certified Genius
Heres my problem. I dropped my iphone 4 s and now when I send an sms, if it goes as an imessage the recipient says its coming from my email address & not my phone number. 1- how can i change it back but also 2- is imessage usually sent from phone number and not email correct? Should I re-sync my phone? Additional info: iMessage says I can be reached for messages at 2 addresses, my phone and email, the email cannot be removed. PLEASE HELP IM OCD ABOUT MY PHONE AND THIS ISSUE IS DRIVING ME MAD!
    helplessandhopeful,
    Hannah

To identify your iMessages as coming from your phone number go to Settings>Messages>Receive At>Caller ID and select your phone number rather than your email address.  Also, the email can't be removed because this is the email address linked to the Apple ID you are using for iMessage.  If you really want to remove it you have to go to Settings>Messages>Receive At, tap the Apple ID at the top and sign out.

  • TS1398 my imessages are being delivered from my e-mail not my phone number.

when i use imessage it only sends them coming from my email address (my apple ID) and not my actual phone number so when i am texting another person with an iphone it comes up as blue but to them it's delviered as my email address not my phone number and when i go to the settings>messages>imessage the caller id selection does not come up at all. only another email option.

That's because your phone number is not yet activated with iMessage.  You will probably see "waiting for activation" listed under iMessage in Settings>Messages.  There are a number of solutions that people have tried to resolve this, search the forum for "iMessage waiting for activation" and you may find one that works for you.

  • Why does my iMessage randomly send from my email instead of phone number on my iPhone?

    Hi,
I have iMessage set up on my iPhone 5s (fully updated) and regularly use it since most of my contacts also have imessage. I mainly use it on my iPhone, but sometimes use the messaging app on my Mac.
I have an email linked to my iMessage, it is my apple ID. I have it set as "can be reached at" my phone number and email and "start new conversations from" ONLY my phone number.
However, sometimes when I'm in the middle of a text conversation with someone, they will end up getting an imessage from my email and not my phone number, which confuses people and puts the conversation in two different places.
Is this a common issue? Do I just remove the email from where I can be reached at? Does doing that disable me from using the messenger app on my mac?

Unfortunately yes - if you have both phone number and email checked as available then sometimes the choice from where to send appears to be random.
However you may want to disable the email as a potential contact point on the phone and leave it on in the pad and see what happens - given the cloud based nature of the system it may synchronize at some point but at least you will know .

  • Why do I have to browse all my email contact in the phone app?

When browsing for a phone number in my contact list from the phone app, why do I have to browse through the 100's of contacts for which I just have an email address with no phone number?
    Thanks

You can browse for the name, or you can use the search feature available at the top of the contact list. To move to the top of the contact list and the search feature, select the status bar to go directly to the top of the list and the search option.
