Why is my ipad still using battery power when switched off & locked away with no one using it?

Why is my IPad still discharging battery when switched off and locked away - with no one using it?  Charged it to 100% on holiday and locked in safe.  2 days later it was at 76%!

How is it "switched off"? Are you pressing the button on the top so the screen goes black? If so, that isn't shut off, but put to sleep. I will still be doing things in the background and using battery power.
To shut it fully off, press and hold the button on top, you will get a notification on the screen that says "Slide to power off". Slide the button and it will turn completly off.
If this is how you switched it off, let us know and we will see what else we can figure out.

  • Zen Micro lose Power when Switched OFF??

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem as me. I fully charged my Zen Micro last night and then left it and just switch it on for the first time now (8 hours later), and the battery indicator shows 2 bars left?
Seems like the Zen Micro loses power even when switched off!?!
Can anyone confirm that this is the case and whether I can do anything to stop it from happening? Is this normal with Hard Dri've MP3 player or only with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks.

<EDIT: (April st, 2005):<<FONT color=#330000>JazzMC has taken the initiati've and written a sort of FAQ and put together a website with all the information to date gathered in one place regarding this power drain of the Zen Micro while off (in standby). It's a great read for those who want more information about the subject and probably easier than wading through this thread.<FONT color=#330000>You can view the document by clicking here: <Zen Micro Power Loss<. <FONT color=#330000>Thanks JazzMC!
Ditto here. I did do a disk cleanup last week and the micro seems to be holding it's charge longer now. It's still draining the battery while sitting idle though according to the bar indicator, but slower (go figure?). This is my only real issue with the Zen Micro as I love it otherwise!
One wierd thing I noticed was I charged it full then left it sit for about 3 days (checking it off and on) then on day 3 it was at one bar. So I plugged it into my home sterio and turned it on to see how long it would play for. I was really surprised to see it last a few minutes shy of 9 hours...
Could this be a battery calibration thing instead of it just loosing charge? Like the meter misreads the batteries actual charge over time instead of it loosing power?
Donno it's wacky, please fix Creative!

  • My ibook loses battery power when turned off and unplugged

I have been puzzled by this since November 2006. I calibrated my battery twice as prescribed and still, as soon as i shut down my ibook and unplug it, it's battery charge goes down. Why is this? I'd greatly appreciate help. I'm a former pc user and none of my pc laptops have this problem. I just want to know why my battery loss power when unplugged and turned off. thanks in advance

Well you might want to try what they call "battery reconditioning" which is 7 simple steps listed below:
    1: Charge your iPod fully.
2: Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
3: Then carge your iPod fully again.
4: Then Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
5: One more time charge your iPod fully.
6: And then again Use it till you cant trun it on anymore!
7: Then one last time charge it fully again.
Reminder: it is best to let the battery die all of the way each time inbetween chages. for example if it has 60% battery life dont charge it use it till it is dead and then charge it up all the way!
*This should inturn maximise your battey life also!*

  • MacBook Shuts off While Using Battery Power

    Hello!
    I have a white 13" MacBook from 2006.
But whenever I try to just run the MacBook on battery power, it shuts off within
1-3 minutes of use (Mainly using Safari).
I tried to reset the SMC, and changing the battery to a new one, but the problem
    still persists.
    *Battery Information:*
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: DP-ASMB013-34da-4799
    Manufacturer: DP
    Device name: ASMB013
    Pack Lot Code: 0001
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 0102
    Hardware Revision: 0300
    Cell Revision: 0200
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3693
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3869
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 217
    Battery health: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1231
    Voltage (mV): 11969
When we switched the battery, the cycle count was 216 with the new battery.
But when we switched the batteries back, it was still a cycle count of 216.
We also tried to call AppleCare, but they didn't help very much...
Is there a defective part in my MacBook?

    Never mind with the question...
My dad mixed up the batteries and put the old battery back in the
old one, and the new battery stuck in the new one... =P
So, I tried switching the batteries by myself, and guess what?
I'm using the new battery right now - just on battery power!
    (And it's not shutting off! =) )

  • Satellite A85-s107 - blank screen on boot up using battery power

Satellite A85-s107 blank screen on boot up using battery power
When I boot up A85-s107 in battery power, it is getting booted up in the background, but my screen is blank.
After that if I connect it to AC power and switch off/on the laptop power button, the display comes back to life.
There is no problem when I boot up when connected to AC power.
Battery is fully charged and computer will run off battery if I remove AC after boootup
    Any suggestions?
    Ps:
also notice that when I remove AC and then reconnect I have to start the computer twice as it doesnt boot the 1st time?

    hi nick34_99,
sounds to me like a bad charging electronic...
i got this issue on my sat3000 too, but only when battery is not fully charged...
start the unit with a dos-disc (freedos has an cd image) and let the battery run "dry"...
after that boot without battery (ac-adapter connected of course) and log on.
after that shut down insert battery and try with batt only....
this trick has done magic on my machine...

  • IPAD 2 loses battery Power Quickly

Problem 1:  Within the last few weeks, my Ipad 2 loses battery power even when its powered down I've tried both closing the cover and using the main swithch  on the top right.  In all cases, I can start out at 100% and within a couple of hours be down to 85% after using it once and either closing the cover or pushing the switch.  Its as if something is still running.  I looked at the processes with all my apps off and didn't see any surprises .  I have processes 9424 dataccessd, 9412 ptpd, 6581 AdSheet~ipad, and 1340 iapd as well as a dozen or so process with numbers in the double digits from 49 on down.  It took me 9 hours last night to bring my pad from 20% to 100%.
Problem 2: I recently rented a movie from Itunes and tried to play it through my HDMI interface on my TV using the appropriate apple interface cords.  It started to play then I got a message that told me that the device I was trying to play the movie on wasn't authorized for protected media even though I had no trouble playing it on my ipad.?????What's with that?

    There is no "4S software".
    All iPhones run iOS.
There are dozens of versions of iOS.  Which version is your device on?

When my Ipod touch is in autolock I can only restart the device holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 10 seconds.  While in auto-lock it is using battery power and will do so until the battery is drained.  Whats wrong?

    - Try a reset. Nothing is lost:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and try to restore via iTunes. Try placing in Recovery mode if necessary to restore.
    - If you can't turn the iPod completely off, let the batter fully drain. After charging for at lerast anhour try again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why the new iPad still has no Flash

I wonder why the new iPad still has no flash. I love to take photos with my iPhones and iPads, sometimes a flash could be handy when it's dark.
I know it could be another nightmare for the Apple case makers.

Apple has never said why, and rarely does explain decisions like that... my guess is that it would have taken space and power away from something else, it's a pretty tightly-packed product. :-)

  • Why does not ipad show on itunes? when i connected with my macbook using usb, just it is charging electricity.

why does not ipad show on itunes? when i connected with my macbook using usb, just it is charging electricity.
    i don't know why...

Sometimes it can be something very simple and easy to fix. Before you get into any involved troubleshooting, quit iTunes, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and then try to sync again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If this doesn't work, then try the more involved stuff.

  • Does nokia battery monitor 3.1 uses battery power ...

does it uses battery power if you put it in your home screen or it just observes how many power is left for your phone to last?

I dont think it consumes considerable amount of battery power.
It is somewhere, a little annoying to see when it shows for example, 14 hours remaining and all of a sudden after playing an hd game it shows 2 hours remaining! People think that it is because of battery monitor itself!
So no problem using it. It just observes how much battery is left and according to the usage and it calculates the time remaining.
It would be good if it show at what time the battery is going to last, that helps us to determine how we should use the phone to save the battery for the next busy day!

    Hi
    Very strange issue
Did you notice this issue from beginning?
First of all check if your BIOS is up to date. Update the BIOS if newer version is available.
Furthermore it would be recommended to update the display driver.
But if both updates dont change this, then I would recommend contacting an ASP in your country. It could be a hardware issue.

  • Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???

Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???
I would expect that it would make an unusual noise if plugged into a generic USB charger that does not have enough oomph to charge a pad to alert you - otherwise, you might think the noise is reassuring that you are actually charging it.

I guess my question was actually more of a comment on the (lack of) design!  It is unusual that something like this would still be in an Apple product.  There are wall chargers that have a USB port on them that do not have the required oomph to charge the iPad.  I have one that has two USB ports, one for my iPhone  (it won't charge an iPad), and one for an iPad with greater amperage rating.  I accidentally used the wrong ones for a while yesterday, but noticed before being "surprised" the next morning by an uncharged iPad.  The iPad is smart enough to say "Not charging" by the battery icon when it is plugges in to one of these, so it "knows" - seems like it would be fairly simply to have the iPad make a different or additional noise  wehn it puts up the "Not charging" text icon.  Failsafe user experience?
