Why is my iPhone 3GS randomly restarting?
So I bought and iPhone 3GS and about twenty days into owning it, the phone would randomly start restarting itself over and over again. It would only be on for a short period of time and would not let me make calls, recieve texts, or do onything during this time. I tried recharging it and plugging it into my computer, but nothing worked. I returned it for a new one...
BUT now it's doing the same thing and I've only had it for a week. What's causing this?
As far as my experience restoring does not help much because it will start rebooting again after few days or few weeks. As I have tried that.
If you have do not have data plan on that phone and you have turned it off in network setting then fix is simple.
1. Go to settings
2. network
3. enable Data and 3g.
4. try making calls and wait and see if it turn off or not.
5. If this work you can turn off data but keep 3g on.
I am positive this should work.

Sounds like hardware failure, called boot loop. Call Apple and or go on apple.com and make Genius Bar appointment to have your iphone reviewed by a Tech. Provided you iphone shows no physical or liquid damage they will take care of you, or if you have Apple Care Plus

My iPhone 3GS randomly shuts down for no reason, and apparently I am not the only person having a problem with this. This happens regardless of how much battery life my phone shows, or whichever application I am using. IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS!!!!!!! I understand that cell phones are not built to last forever, but my phone is in to good of a condition to go out and purchase a new one.
Before you get your knickers all in a twist, try the basic troubleshooting steps Apple recommends:
Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you have been through ALL of the troubleshooting steps and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for investigation. -
My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. Why does my iphone 3gs screen go white after it goes "to sleep" for the first time after turning it on?
The screen isn't broken because it works after i turn the device off and back on, but after it goes black once, it's only white again.
But it takes the touches although it's only white, because I can answer my phone when I slide my finger on the bottom of the screen, eventhough there in not the button to see.
This is so weird. I have already done everything I can think of that might help. But I cannot think of anything that might be causing it, because nothing has happened to the device.Let me know if I should start a new discussion instead of opening a new topic here.
My wife's iPhone is the same vintage as mine 3Gs, but has never had the battery problem. Its affliction instead is that it cannot detect WiFi networks unless it is quite close to the source. Often, when my iPhone not only detects but shows a maximum cells connection with a network, hers cannot detect the network at all. In contrast, her iPhone seems to detect ourcellular carrier just as well as mine does.
Is there any help for this affliction? -
Ok I have noticed alot of the same posts but my iPhone 3Gs is restarting every second not minute. It started when I went to restore my phone cause i saw for some odd reason i had over 2gb of memory being waisted by "other" what ever makes that up, anyways so after i restored it I told it to restore from back up ever since then it keeps restarting. help please :-/ ???
Then the next step is to try the process again, this time restoring as a new iPhone rather than from backup. (The restore may not have worked if the source of the problem is contained in your backup.) If restoring it as new doesn't resolve the problem then it is probably a hardware problem and you will need to take it to the Apple store for evaluation. I would save a copy of your backup to your desktop before proceeding so it isn't accidently overwritten. If it is a hardware problem and you end up replacing the phone you will want to restore your new phone from this backup in order to keep your data and settings. You will find the backup at one of these locations:
Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Why does my iphone 3gs shut down when battery shows 80%. a couple of months ago is shut down at 60% but has continually gotten worse. this was before 5.0. i took it to a repair man and he tried a used battery, a new battery, and the original battery. nothing helped. 5.01 didnt help either. What is my problem?
Fully discharge the battery (till it shuts down and won't turn on) and then fully recharge it (100%). This will recalibrate the battery meter. You may need to do this a few times.

Check your (push) notifications.
Settings > Notifications > Look at what applications are pushing information to your phone. Turn off the applications' notifications that you don't care about.
Settings > Email > Check how often your phone is checking email and sending it to you. Push will use the most data. Data usage goes down from there.
Check your running applications.
From your home screen, double-press the home (physical) button > Hold down an icon until they shake and the "X"s appear on their corners. Hit the "X"s to close out the application.
Some applications can continue to use your data while running the background even though you are not actively using the application.
Are you using YouTube?
YouTube, and any other video application, uses a lot of data.
Are you using Pandora?
Music applications can also use up data though not as much as video. -
My iphone 3gs randomly started to turn itself on and off today and it won't stop like it is continuously doing this. I haven't dropped it or anything it just randomly started doing it. I put it in rice just in case it got water on it. Help! ? My phone won't even be a year old until next month and I was really wanting it to last me for 2 years. :/ What should I do?
Took my phone to the Apple store this week and they told me it was a hardware/screen malfunction. They replaced the screen for free since it was under warranty. Now it works fine again!

In Itunes it is set to automatically sync to the laptop and in info sync contacts is checked and all contacts are checked.On my Mac Pro, contacts and Thunderbird contacts are synced. I want my Iphone to sync with the Contacts on the Mac Pro. Incidently I am not using Icloud. Is that the problem?

Welcome to the Forums.
The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).
If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.
In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).
