Why is my Iphone 3gs still receiving texts without having a sim card in it?

My daughter took her sim card out of her iphone 3gs, but the phone is still receiving text messages. The phone works, but is pretty beat up, and she is now using an older phone she has till she can upgrade.
Thanks

Allen is most likely correct. If she is running iOS 5, then they are iMessages. Assuming she's connected to WiFi, she can still use iMessage.
Tell her to turn it off in Settings>Messages. Once she does, the messages should start going to the phone she's actually using.

Seems your story has changed... not seeing is not the same as not supported.
If the phone is carrier locked, you need a SIM from the carrier it's locked to to activate it.  The sim does not have to be active, it just has to be one from that carrier.

    Disable your antivirus and firewall.
If that doesn't fix it either the phone was jailbroken or hacked, or the computer you are using was used to hack or jailbreak some other iDevice.

  • If I buy a new iPhone 3GS on eBay, can I transfer the SIM card from my current iPhone 3GS into the new one and will it still work?

I have an 8GB iPhone 3GS on AT&T, and I wanted to purchase a 16GB version on eBay. Will I be able to just pop the SIM card out of the current iPhone 3GS into the new iPhone 3GS and have it work properly?

Yes, you will be able to use it provided that the 16GB version of 3GS is either factory unlocked or locked to AT&T network (in case of a carrier locked phone).

  • Failed restore on iPhone 3GS because iTunes says there is no SIM card installed.

I have an unlocked iPhone3GS that I used in Thailand for 2 years with a Thai SIM card. Now I am back in the USA and I got a AT&T SIM card without a contract. I wanted to update to the newer version of iOS so I contacted AT&T and had them do an authorized iPhone unlock. I backed up my iPhone and then restored it in iTunes. After restarting the phone iTunes told me there was no SIM card installed in the device. I've taken the AT&T SIM card out and put it back in but nothing changes.
    Any help or suggestions?

The iPhone was jailbroken before I went to Thailand. I never had a contract in Thailand ethier. The phone was working fine on my new AT&T SIM card for 2 weeks until I went to restore and update the iOS.
I also tried to use WIFI to activate the device instead of iTunes. After a few minutes of trying that a mesage tells me that Apple can't activate it and to try use iTunes or contact Apple support.

  • I just got my iphone 3gs unlocked and i inserted another company sim card in it (Mobilink) but it shows no service plus I plugged it into itunes and the number was n\a. What should I do??

I just got my iPhone unlocked in Pakistan. Now I want to insert another company's sim card in it, which is not supported of course. It is reading the sim card but shows no service. Plus I plugged it into itunes so that i could confirm it. But the phone number is n/a

Have you loaded the unlock onto your phone yet?
If yes: connect to iTunes to load the up-to-date carrier settings of your phone.
If that does not work navigate to settings>general> reset>reset network setting and confirm that.
If that does not work have your SIM replaced.
If no: backup your data, then navigate to settings>general> reset> reset contents and settings and confirm that your phone will be reset to factory settings. Then set it up again and load your backup. Now you have loaded the unlock.
If all of that does not help contact Apple to check if the carrier has really done the unlock. And if you have not doen an official unlock, but a jailbreak there is nothing I can do for you.

Another thing you can try is to ensure that the setting for ( send as sms if imessage unavailable ) is turned on, this can be found in Settings : Messages. If this doesnt work you can also try changing the contact details to read mobile instead of iphone.
That setting is not relevant to sending SMS messages to non-iPhones. It only affects what happens when an iMessage won't go through to an iOS device. And, what the phone number is labeled has no effect on anything. You could create a custom label "Rutabaga" and the SMS would still go through if the account was properly provisioned. Those labels are for human brain convenience only.

You can turn iMessage off on your iPhone.  That's relatively easy.  Since iMessage is an Apple product/service, I have no idea how a Samsung phone will deal with an incoming one.  For that answer you should probably contact Samsung support.

  • If only using wifi, will I still receive text messages and calls from non iPhone users?

If you have cell service with a text plan, yes.

  • Why can't i send or receive text messages to some users from my iPad while there is no problem texting them from my iPhone?

Why can't I send or receive text messages to some users from my iPad mini while there is no problem texting them from my iPhone?

With the Apple iMessage app, You can only Message with other iOS users - iPads, iPod Touch, iPhone users and Macs running Mountain Lion or higher. With your iPhone, you can send standard SMS text messages to any phone, including Android phones.
The iPad cannot send SMS messages or receive them either.

I'm sending an iMessage from my iPhone to another iPhone but the recipient phone does not receive message because not on wifi. Why does recipient iPhone not automatically receive in text messaging?

Wi-Fi is not required for iMessage. Internet access is required for iMessage which includes when the iPhone is connected to the cellular network.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will fail to send and you will be prompted to send as an SMS if text only.

  • Still receiving texts on inactvated iPhone 4

I have an iphone 4s.  I dropped my phone and had to have the screen replaced.  During that week, I inactivated my 4s and reactivated an old iphone 4 to use.  After the iphone 4s was fixed, I went online and switched devices and re-activated my iphone 4s.  It has been working fine, no probems but this morning I realized that I am still receiving text messages on the iphone 4.  Some are duplicates and I'm receiving them on both phones, but some are only coming through on the iphone 4, even when I reply to them on the 4s, they are still coming through on the iphone 4. I followed the directions for activation and did power off the iphone 4 prior to activating the 4s.  Any ideas?

it is likely that you are still receiving messages on the old phone because it is hooked up to wifi and is receiving imessages. are you receiving messages from people who do not have iphones?? if so it is a networking issue that has to be addressed by turning off the old device and reactivating the iphone 4 fully... then put the 4 into airplane mode if it must remain powered on ( you can do that through the settings application) then reactivate the iphone 4s and allow it to fully activate.  if at all possible turn off the iphone 4 and leave it off for an extended amount of time (1 month+) this has solved the issue for several people i know. good luck!!

  • Why does my iphone 3gs screen goes black after reaching another party and won't come back on to press end the call

why does my iphone 3gs screen goes black after reaching another party and won't come back on to end the call

    hi smalley3,
    Welcome to the Forums.
The flickering issue maybe due to a bad LCD cable or in some cases, a faulty GPU (the GPU is integrated to the CPU, and the CPU is soldered to the motherboard).
If there's still no image on the screen even after connecting an external display then you likely have a bad GPU.
In this case, I recommend you contact support for service (and also to see if there's a consideration that can be done on the warranty repair).
