Why is my iPhone asking for my iTunes password randomly and repeatedly?

I have seen this question in several discussions, but all are archived. None had an answer.   I have 3 iPhone 4S's and 3 iPod Touch 4g's.  All, radomly but frequently enough to be annoying, display a pop up screen when first using the iPhone/Pod Touch (normally from sleep mode) asking for your iTunes password.  It gives you the option to select "cancel" or "enter"and sometimes I just hit cancel b/c I am so fed up with this.  I notice no problems if I do not enter my password and hit "cancel."  But, who knows if something is compromised by not giving the device what it "wants."   So, most of the time  I enter my password hoping that will satisfy the "beast" and it will not ask for it anymore.  No luck.
I hope someone knows the answer to this before the "Gods of Archive" close this question/discussion.  I have to believe something is going on that is not right.
One iPhone 4S and iPod Touch 4g is running off a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3
Two iPhone 4s's and two iPod Touch 4g's are running off MacBook Pros running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
All devices are sharing the SAME iTunes password for apps, music, etc.
Best, Mr. Luigi

For those who might be experiencing this same problem, I'll pass on the things I try and whether it meets with any success or not.
Here is my latest idea:
As I mentioned earlier, our family of 3 shares 1 itunes account for apps, music...This way, one song, one app, whatever purchased by one of us can be used on the other's iDevices.  Up until recently we had 8 devices sharing this one account:
3 MacBook Pros
3 iPhone 4S's
1 iPad Original + 3g
1 iPad 2 +3g
Then we were given 3 iPod Touch 4th generation devices.  I set them up and things seemed ok. Seemed...
Then I noticed in the iCloud "Account Info" for this 1 account the 1 iPad Original + 3g was not listed as included with this Apple account.  Hm...
In iTunes, I had 'Automatically Sync New Apps" turned ON for the iPad Original + 3g.  However, I noticed in the actual iPad Original + 3g that when I went to Settings --> Store,  Automatic Downloads for Music, Apps, and Books was set to OFF.  So, I naturally turned those to ON to coordinate with the "Automatically Sync New Apps" setting for this device in iTunes.  Next time I turned on that iPad a warning pop-up appeared that said only TEN devices could be associated with 1 iTunes account for automatic downloads.  Hm...
I thought that perhaps having all our iDevices (8 of them) set to "Automatically Sync New Apps" was confusing iTunes because that meant I was asking it to Sync New App to 11 total devices (including my 3 computers).
So, I am going to watch and see if anything happens by taking our original iPad out of the "loop."  Maybe this sorta random having to enter my password is because iTunes can't "handle" having 11 devices asking for app syncing when Apple has told it to only allow 10 devices.  (BTW, I think that Apple needs to change this rule now that it has Computers, iPhones, iPod Touches, AND iPads competing for those precious 10 spots.  It's easy to use them up even for a small family of 3 like ours.)
If this has confused you, welcome to the club.  There is another discussion focused on families and their use of the new iCloud service.  It's a gargantuan discussion, so I'm not the only one perplexed as to the best way to manage a house of Apple Products sharing an iTunes account.
All I can hope is that I am now confused at a higher level, and about more appropriate things so that eventually I may figure this out. Bye.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select

Can you access your email account through the web interface from a computer using the new password? If so, you may not be typing in the password correctly in your iPad email client. If not, then you've forgotten your new password. Try resetting the password again from the hotmail web interface.
Oops, just noticed it works on your iPhone.

  • My iTouch has apps that are ready to upgrade. I'm asked for my iTunes password which I enter but it tells me it's the wrong password. It isn't because I can login to iTunes with it. I also have another iTunes account but app upgrade defaults to one a/c.

My iTouch has several apps ready for upgrade. When I ask it to upgrade it prompts me for my iTunes password relating to one of my iTunes accounts but when I type it in it tells me it's the wrong password even though it isn't. Any ideas out there?

From your discussion it sounds like the app you want to update were purchased under a different iTunes account than the iPod is current signed into.  Go to Settings>Store and sign out of the existing iTunes account and sign into the account that purchased the apps.  You can't change the account when the message identifying the signed-in account and asking for the password.

  • Why is my phone asking for a CISCO password?

    Hi,
My Mom is suddenly having an issue with her phone and wi-fi connectivity, it's connecting to her 'guest' network instead of her default and in doing so asking for a CISCO password in order to access the web. (screen shot below)
I've done some basic troubleshooting but I can't seem to get it to connect properly.
I've tried just telling it to connect to the right network but it gives me a 'cannot connect' message without even asking for the password.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make it stop asking for a CISCO password? I am simply trying to connect to our basic home wi-fi network.

    Hello SEC4184,
I was looking into the issue you are experiencing, and found this article that may be helpful to you named iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398.
    Basic troubleshooting
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware. For AirPort Base Stations, refer to this article for information about firmware updates. For third-party Wi-Fi routers, check the manufacturer's website for details on updating your firmware.
Restart your iOS deviceHold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you're unable to join a nearby Wi-Fi network
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router by turning it off and then on again.
Note: If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
When joining an 802.11n Wi-Fi network, ensure that your router is properly configured. See this article for more information.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • HT201441 Why is my iPhone asking for activation if it was working perfectly fine?

My phone was working perfectly fine but when I turned it on it said activation required, it asked for my Apple  ID AND I typed it in and it said "could not activate iPhone"! Why did this randomly happen?

Did you recently update the iOS version or restore from backup?
What is the exact complete text of the error message you are receiving?

  • TS3274 I'm unable to update my apps. It asks for my iTunes password and the thinks for a second and the goes back to original update notification.

Unable to update apps. Use iTunes password and program thinks for a couple of seconds and the goes back to original position.

    What's the original position?
Does the screen asking for your password have a different Apple ID that the one you currently use? If so the app must have been downloaded with that different Apple ID. You will have to enter the password for that original Apple ID because downloaded or purchased apps are always associated with the ID used to download o urchase them.

  • Thunderbird keeps asking for ALL my passwords EVERYTIME and they are saved in Thunderbird

As the question reads: Thunderbird keeps asking me for ALL my passwords everytime I open Thunderbird and sometimes inbetween.
All my passwords are entered correctly as per my mail servers and all the passwords are saved. I asked Thunderbird to remember them all and Thunderbird has a list of passwords recorded in the Tools >>Options >>Security >>Passwords >>Save Passwords. There are no mistakes there.
Because Thunderbird kept asking for the passwords, I entered a Master Password. This did not solve my problem. Instead, now I have one more password to enter. I eventually removed the Master Password again as it really serves no purpose.
If this would help at all: The laptop is an HP655 running on Windows 8 and using Thunderbird 24.6.0.
My other laptop is an Acer E1-531 also running on Windows 8 and Thunderbird 24.6.0 - I have no problems here with passwords being asked all the time.
    Maybe it is the HP655?
Can you please assist me? This is very frustrating and your help will be much appreciated.

''I eventually removed the Master Password again as it really serves no purpose.''
Read this article to understand what the master password is all about.
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_password
Try to delete the passwords Thunderbird has remembered. Make sure to check the option to remember it the next time you're prompted for the password.
Do one at a time, so you can keep track if this has any effect.

  • Trying to update apps on iPhone, ask for different iTunes account password

I've been using the same appleid since day one. I have a icloud email as back up, but never changed account info except address.  When attempting to update apps on my iPhone, I click on UPDATE button. depending on the app, I will be ask to signin to iTunes Store using my wife's appleid.
Why? This is my iPhone.  We are on the same AT&T account.  We are at the same address.
But there is no reason for her info to be on my phone.

    1.  Therefore, I would expect to select from one of 287 million other users who downloaded "at the time they were downloaded from the iTunes Store, whether the downloading was done on the same device or not."
    2.  Release of iTunes user ID is not a security issue?  Release of any info is considered a security issue by most individuals and corporations.
    3.  My iphone, my iTunes Id is used when making purchase.  I'm not confused.
    4.  Its called Phishing
    5.  Been there, done that.  Next idea, short of complete "Reset"?

  • My iPhone 5S always asks for my iTunes password before i can use my fingerprint

I have set my iPhone 5s up, i use the fingerprint sensor to unlock and dowload apps etc, i have gone in to settings, general, Touch ID & Passcode, Touch ID and selected to use the finger print sensor for iTunes & App Store, i put my password in etc, yet every time i try to download an App i have to input my password again before i can use Touch ID! Why??
Just what is the point of setting it all up, when it is obvious that the Touch ID is not 100% trustworthy, has the password would only need inputting once if it was!
Really not happy with this repetitive cycle, i may has well of stuck with my iPhone 5, than waste my money on a gimmick!!

I would try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple if possible or hold for about 15 seconds then let go. If that does not help, I would restore it through itunes on your computer.

  • Iphone 4s keeps asking for my itunes password

I goto play a song on the memory or access the internet or open an app and my itunes username pops up with theblank password field.
I can press cancel to get rid off it without entering thepassword but it does come back.
    any thoughts?

I have the same issue on a 4s with iOS 6. Asks me every 5 or 6 tunes. Hit cancel and it plays. Enter it and it plays. 5/6 songs later it is back.
Has anyone managed to work this out yet? Driving me crazy.

  • IPhone asks for Apple ID password which isn't mine?

    Hi how's it going?
Is is on behalf of my friend..(not very techy)
She has an iPhone 4 and is running iOS 5, today she told me that it has started asking her for passwords to Apple IDs she has never heard of and used,
It occurs after she unlocks the phone and now has started doing it randomly.
She has not used anyone else computer to sync it, and she is logged on to her account on the computer and on the iTunes/app store on the iPhone, there are no current downloads on the computer or the phone.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

The same thing is happening to me too and I have no idea why!

  • Every time I open an app it asks for my iTunes password

Every time I open any kind of app my phone asks me to sign in to my Itunes.
How do I make this stop? This isnt just when I open or download apps within the app store,
its every single app i open within my phone.

This is only for Local Items key chain not Login Keychain.

  • Why does iBooks keep asking for apple ID password?

For a few days whenever I start up iBooks on my iPad, it asks me to log in with my Apple ID. I can say 'cancel' and going on reading without problems; I can also give my Apple ID password and everything will behave the same way (I see no difference).
I have seen the discussion thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20897580#20897580 and I tried to follow what was described there, but it did not worl. I get no warning on 'purchases not yet downloaded'

That thread helped me. I am using the latest (11.1.1) version of iTunes.
Went to Store > View Account
Right at the top of the page, and I mean the top (right around the Account Information title) was a message proclaiming downloads pending download. I clicked it and then the notification went away and so did the message on my iPad.
Bit long winded there but I'm just happy to have that popup gone! Best of luck!
