Why is my iPhone Camera Roll using 10.0 GB but my Photo Library only using 6.3 GB?

When I look at usage in my iPhone, Camera Roll is using 10.0 GB, but Photo Library is only using 6.3 GB. I do not have Photo Stream enabled. Why the difference?

In my case, Camera Roll is just the pictures taken on my phone and the remainder of the photos on my phone were synced from my computer via iTunes and are under "Photo Library". If you go to Photos and then tap Albums at the bottom right, it will show which pictures are in the Camera Roll. My Camera Roll usage is much smaller than Photo Library as I only have 2 pictures there since I regularly import them to my computer where I have more control and extra backup capability. I then sync back some that I want to also have on the phone.

Try turning off the Camera Roll option in Settings>iCloud>Backup & Storage>Manage Storage>Your device. Then turn it back on again.

  • TS3697 phone not syncing camera roll where all my pictures r. syncing photo library where crap is. how do i sync camera roll.

getting iphone 5 today. have 3G. just realized that my photos in camera roll r not being synced. The pictures or signs in the photo library album that somehow downloaded on my phone r being synced but the 500 pictures and videos I have in camera roll are not. Those r the ones I do not want to lose. Under devices it only allows u to access stuff on your computer not on your phone. How do I gain access to camera roll to get it to sync to my laptop. I want to be able to get those pictures on my new phone and I am giving my old phone to my mother so I can get a cheaper rate from at & t but I well be unable to reset my phone if I cant get the pictures off. can anyone give me any suggestions please?

I am having the same problem. But in Image Capture my iPhone (iPhone 4 ios 5) will no longer show up as a device. It does not show up as a device in finder either. It does show up in iTunes, though. In anticipation of icloud and in an attempt to avoid having duplicate photos in my iPhoto (because I already had this problem syncing with iPhoto through USB), I deleted all my iPhone photos (and videos) off of my Macbook while keeping them on my iPhone; only to find out that iCloud will only sync new photos that I take after setting up iCloud.  So now I have no way of getting the photos and videos that I had captured prior to ios 5 and iCloud back on my Macbook.

  • ICloud Storage is almost full -- how do I clear my iPhone Camera Roll back-up without losing my photos?

Hi.  My iCloud storage is almost full and my iPhone Camera Roll seems to be the main culprit.  So...
    1.  I think that they way to free up my iCloud storage is to go into iCloud management and delete the back-up of the iPhone Camera Roll.  Right?
    2.  If yes, does deleting my iPhone Camera Roll from iCloud back-up delete the photos from my phone entirely?
    3.  Also, if I have already saved my iPhone photos to my iPhoto Library on my computer (via hard line sync), should I be worried about deleting the iCloud back-up of the iPhone Camera Roll?  (In other words, will deleting the back-up on my phone somehow tell my iPhoto to delete the copies of the photo as well?)
Any tips would be appreciated.  Thanks!!

Here's a tip: Part of what I do is photography, so I normally treat my iPhone as another camera. So, what I do is after I have finished taking some shots/videos with it, I download them to my computer (in my case, via Aperture). For everyone else, on the Mac there is the free Image Capture app, or the iPhoto app (which, if you have the latest version of Lion, it isn't built in there, so you would have to download it from the App Store for a fee).
I have made it a habit to use this method whenever I finish taking pictures at the end of a day (but that's just me). Also, keep in mind that the videos that you take on your iPhone can take up a lot of space very quickly (for instance, one minute of 720p HD video recorded on the iPhone takes up over 300 MB of space!), so you would need to keep that in mind when shooting videos. SO, to answer your questions above:
    1) Right.
    2) No, because it is only a backup, not the Camera Roll itself.
    3) You should not be worried about deleting the iCloud backup of the iPhone Camera Roll. What would happen (in terms of the method) is that you first would download them to iPhoto first, then delete the images from your Camera Roll. This then would free up your iCloud storage space. Lastly, placing them in your iPhoto app will not tell your backup on your phone to delete them. When you delete the images from your camera roll, your "backup" will be smaller in size than it was beforehand.... Hopefully that made sense.

  • Printing edited photos on my ipad and iphone camera roll using HP eprint app

I edited and saved photos on my ipad and iphone camera roll. When I use the HP eprint app to print the photos to my HP 5514 Photosmart printer, the edited photo that I select does not show up in the preview, (the original shows up not the saved edited version). I am stumped because in the photo book and on the camera roll the edited version is the only one visible. I don't know what the problem may be. Why is it reverting to the original?

    Hi jdanrok,
I did some testing on my iPad and found that after you edit a pic in photos and save it, it will only show the edited version. However, if you go to edit the "edited" photo, you can "Revert to Original", which means it is not really saving the "edited" version, it just "remembers" what you have changed.
When you go into the HP ePrint app, it is only seeing the original, and not the "edited" version.
If you are printing over local wifi (using Airprint) you can actually print the "edited" photo directly from the Photos App by touching the arrow towards the top of the screen and choosing Print.
If you are wanting to use the ePrint app, and you are not on your local wifi (through ePrint), you can email the "edited" photo, save the "edited" photo from the email and it will be just the "edited" version. The old psuedo "edited" version will still be there also.
If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution

  • Why does my iPhone camera keep telling me "Cannot take photo" there is not enough available storage to take a photo, etc? I have it hooked up to ICloud and the cameral roll???

Why does my iPhone camera keep telling me "cannot take photo" there's not enough storage, but I have my phone/camera roll hooked up to Icloud and have purchased additional storage???

iCloud storage has nothing to do with remaining memory on the phone - only memory for backups and Photostream.  The photo has to first be stored on the phone and copies sent to iCloud.  If there is not enough available memory on the phone, the photo can't be taken.
To determine the remaining memory on the phone:
    Settings > General > Usage > Storage
The Camera Roll is meant for temporary storage of photos, which should be imported to an app on your computer and deleted from Camera Roll.  You can then sync back those photos which you want to keep on the phone.

  • IPhone Camera roll problems.

So basically, I'm getting sick and tired of my phone messing up and having to restore.
Because, it deletes all my photos.
I have since then began to import my photos to my Computer.
However, after restoring again, i realized when I sync my photos to my iPhone they are in a seperate folder called Photo Library? Why? I don't like how I can't just sync the camera roll to the PC. (E.G When I delete a photo from my phone and then sync it up to the PC it would just delete the photo from the comp, and if I add a photo it would add the photo to my specific folder, therefore keeping a syncronisity)
Is there absolutely anyway to fix this, i dislike having the seperate folders, thing is.. I can't even add the photo library to the camera roll. I understand the camera roll is for photos taken by the camera, however I add many wallpapers through apps, why can't I add my photos like that to the camera roll and delete the unnecessary folder?

Photos inside the camera roll still have the high quality and resolution the build in camera is providing.
Once you copy the content of the camera roll to your computer and sync certain pictures back to the phone, those photos will be reduced in quality and size, to look good on your display without using to much space.
Photos inside the Photo library can only be deleted if you deselect them in the photo pane in iTunes.

  • How can I get a video from my iMac onto my iPhone Camera Roll

I recently bought a Go-Pro, and make time lapse videos, but those are made on my iMac, and I want to transfer them to my iPhone's Camera Roll.
I can easily get them in the "Videos" folder, but problem is, I want to upload them to my Instagram account, so they have to be in the Camera Roll.
I read a few other topics that suggested using "DropBox" which I tried, but when I try to save the video on my phone, it either says "Exporting" for a few minutes then an error, or it says this type of file cannot be saved. Its a ".mov" file.

  • How to delete iPhone camera roll's photos in new version Photos for Mac

    Hi,
Before upgrade to new version Photos for Mac. I was using iPhoto + Photo Stream to manage all the photos took from my iPhone.
Photo Stream will upload all new photos to iPhoto; when I connect iPhone to my mac, I can use iPhoto to delete my iPhone's camera roll's photos to clear the storage space.
After I upgraded to Photos; the Photo Stream still running well, all new photos also upload to Photos' library, however, when I connect iPhone to my mac.
Photos doesn't offer me any method to delete my iPhone camera roll's photos.
What I can find is "Import Selected" or "Import All" and "Delete items after import" these functions are doesn't help.
Because, all the photos are already imported by Photo Stream, when I click "Import All", all the imported photos will "RE-IMPORT" again and the photos will duplicate in my library.
This is also a BUGS in Photos because in old version iPhoto when I import a photo which has already imported before, the software will pop-up a Dialogue Box to ask me options to choose between "Skip" or "Overwrite" or "Duplicate".
Do anyone know how to delete the iPhone camera roll's photos by using new version Photos?
    Thank you very much.

  • IPhoto says iPhone Camera Roll files can't be imported.

iPhoto says iPhone Camera Roll files can't be imported as they are 'unrecognised format' although are jpg.
Aperture and Bridge can't import them either so deduce problem is with iPhone Camera or Camera Roll.
Can import files to my MacPro from my DSLR and compact cameras - to iPhoto, Aperture and Bridge whether Raw or JPG.
iPhoto shows 221 imported photos and 357 un-imported photos as grey boxes.
iPhone software current version.  Have tried restarting.
Mac Pro using 10.6.8, 8GB Ram and masses of HD space - running very well.  Application software fully up-to-date.
    Ideas?
    Many thanks.

I saw a process that seemed to work,  in Iphoto , uncheck the " hide photos already imported box" which revealed the unimported photos in the camera roll, then simply select them and import them.

  • There are photos on my iPhone camera roll that aren't mine. Has my security been compromised? How is this possible?

    Hi guys,
In the last week two photographs have appeared on my iPhone camera roll and the subsequently my photo stream, of which I have not taken or anyone else could not have possibly taken with my phone. The latest one, found this evening as my most recent photo, is of a man on an aeroplane.
I'm a bit spooked here for a couple of reasons:
    1. Have I been hacked and the photos are the least of my worries?
    2. Can this person/persons see my photographs?
I've used iPhoto on my mac to check the location of the photographs taken using the info facility; unfortunately the location is deemed 'unknown'.
I would love anyone's take on this and would appreciate someone from apple responding to this issue directly as it's clearly a potentially huge problem for iOS and mac users.
I've already taken the measure of changing my iCloud password but all the same would like some feedback here.
    Thanks all,
    Snoop84

I write on this topic because I have an almost same incident.
Back in 2009, and this is important because there was no icloud and photo streams at that time, I found on the camera roll of my iphone 3G photos that do not belong to me!
I try to clarify this, and everybody reacted as I was crazy or had no idea about computers, phones etc. I wrote in a technology forum and got similar reactions. In fact I am a more than average experienced pc and phone user. I could also guarantee that nobody touched my phone.
The only explanation I had is that the photos were transferred through a wireless network in a cafe on my phone through some strange leak. But they were indeed not mine.
There are more than 10 photos of a woman (pretty normal photos, bad quality selfies etc, no naked guys) of a guy making some measurements in an apartment, of an IKEA furtinure (probably for the apartment before) etc. etc. Pretty realistic photos, by no means downloaded from the internet.
And nothing to do with me!
I imported some of them in iPhoto and checked the location. Some of them were taken in Munich (where I live), one (of the new apartment) very close to the cafe I was connected and, interestingly, some (the selfies of the woman) in Palo Alto, CA.
I still do not know what that could be, I still have the photos but unfortunately not the phone anymore.
I would be more than happy to hear that there was this or the other leak at that time, but still haven't found any convincing answer on the internet.

  • Weird issues between iPhone Camera Roll and iPhoto?!?!?

I just noticed when opening Photos and then my Camera Roll of pics taken with my 3G that there is a large black irregular shape area covering the top 2 rows of pics and part of the third row as well. I have exited and returned to the app, shut down and restarted my iPhone and no change. If I tap in the black area (don't know what I'm tapping) it will bring up whatever photo is actually there, but there is no way to see it in the thumbnail preview screen because of the black overlay. If I connect the iPhone to my Macbook and open iPhoto, it seems to see that there are photos in my Camera Roll, but they are all blank and iPhoto thinks there are 32 photos there but there is not that many because I have deleted some of them :-O Clicking on a blank photo does not bring up the actual photo, just nothing happens.
So, to try and remedy this I manually deleted all the photos from my Camera Roll on the iPhone, so there were NO PHOTOS in the Camera Roll and then did a sync with my MacBook. iPhoto still thinks there are 32 photos and they are all blank placeholders like before! I tried to "import all" just to see what would happen and 4 were readable and the rest were "unreadable files". I said to delete all the photos after importing but it still lists 32 photos there. Even when the iPhone is disconnected, the iPhone icon stays in iPhoto and I have to manually unmount it. So, there is total disconnect between what is actually on my Camera Roll on the iPhone and what is being seen by iPhoto. It's as though iPhoto is stuck in a particular point in time and can't get rid of some cache or memory of a previous iPhone Camera Roll state. Before updating to OS 3.0, whenever I unplugged the iPhone after a sync, the icon would disappear as a mounted drive in iPhoto so that has changed as well.
I have no idea where to even begin trying to fix this problem. I'm using iPhoto 7.1.5 and not sure whether this is an iPhoto problem or iPhone problem or both?!?! Any feedback would be extremely appreciated!

I'm having a similar issues. Every program on my Mac that is capable of acquiring images from a digital camera (iPhoto, Graphics Converter, Image Capture, etc.) thinks that my iPhone is mounted and that there are 77 pictures to download. It doesn't matter whether the phone is actually connected to the computer or not. I've even restored the iPhone to the factory state and it makes no difference. Thus, I believe the problem to be on the Mac itself. I don't know the details on how it works (could anyone enlighten me?) but I'm very surprised that multiple programs are having the same issue. Obviously, there is some layer that is between the actual device and the programs that use the device. That layer must be corrupted. But what is it, where is it, and how can I fix it?

  • IPhone camera roll does not sync with iPhoto

Around 1/2 of my pictures in my camera roll folder on my iPhone 5S are missing in iPhoto. For example: I have photos until April 2014 that are sync'ed and then a gap until October 2014. How come iPhoto does not import all my photos as a standard? I cannot be related to dates as there are a mix of old and new.
    Thanks!

Make sure that you are using a apple charger or transferring charger. Then unplug the charger from both things plug it back in. If that does not work then unplug again and restart.iPhone camera roll does not sync with iPhoto

How can I get all of the photos from my iPhone Camera Roll onto my iPad3?  Both are running OS 5x and 6x.  Thank you -

    Hey David152,
Thanks for the question. First, you’ll want to import the photos to your personal computer:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

After doing so, you can then sync the photos over to your iPad:
