Why is my iPod 5 rear camera screen black?

I cracked it a while ago, but both cameras (front and back) still worked.
And then I tried fixing it myself with a new screen, but i pressed too hard on the screen which messed it up, but both cameras still worked.
So then i took it some place to get it fixed, which i payed a lot for, and he fixed the screen but then when I tried to use the camera it was black.
My mom took it back and he said he wanted my password for it, but i wasn't there so i wasn't gonna just give it to him. He said he needed to look in the settings or whatever. But i wasn't there so i wasn't gonna hand out my password over phone. So i just took it back and looked at all the settings and nothing would change anything.
I tried restarting a couple times and i reset it. When i reboot it sometimes the front camera works but the back doesn't. Its either just black or it freezes.
I just updated to iOS 7.1.2 so maybe its a software glitch? And my flashlight doesn't work either.
If i can't get this figured I'm gonna be really mad because Apple products keep messing up so please help.
Im not paying anymore money trying to fix this after so many times. If there are any free camera apps just like the normal one could you please tell me. Im honestly just done with apple products. They all break after like 2 years.
P.S. I have no case on it so the case isn't blocking it or anything.

Try:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.                       
  If still problem, take it back to where you got it fixed. Apple will not help

    Plug it into iTunes. If that does not work hold the power and home button untill the screen turns off then let go of the power button but KEEP holding the home button... this should bypass the connect to iTunes screen. Hope it helps.

    Hi i´m new in this IOS thing but i get a message in itunes of an update of IOS 7.0.6 to 7.1 so i updated but my phone stop working the camera just take 2 videos and the camera is not working, well at least the rear cam stay black the front cam works, and, in the control center the button of flashlite do not work i push the button like 4 times the LED do not turn on then i restart the iphone and now the button is disabled so is this a bug or just a faliure of the IOS update???

  • 5th generation ipod touch rear camera no longer works; have tried everything; now what?

    so my ipod touch 5th generation's rear camera hasnt been working for a month or two. the front camera works, but once I click on the button to switch to the rear, it freezes. i have tried resetting my settings, backing up and restoring my ipod, force closed and moved the camera app, etc. also, when i use facetime or snapchat, the rear camera option doesnt even show up. Online ive read that this is a hardware problem, so i was wondering what i could do or where i could take it to be fixed? and if i did take it in, how much would repair cost? thanks in advance.
    also, there is no apple store around me within like two and a half hours. i bought this from best buy in 2013, could i take it there or can i send it in to apple?

    If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

    I have an iPod 4g for over a year now. The front camera no longer works. Whenever I click the button to switch it to the front camera, the last image from the rear camera just freezes.   • Iphone 5c does not work rear camera (screen is black) and a flash light since yesterday. Maybe someone knows what happened.

    Yesterday stopped working camera application turns on but the screen is black. It does not work too flashlight. It is gray in the control panel. Maybe somebody know what happened if I need to return my phone service warrants.

    To troubleshoot issues with your iPhone camera, please follow the steps below.
    Camera
    Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
    If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
    If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
    Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
    Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
    Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
    Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
    Try to remain steady while focusing:Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
    Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
    Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
    Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
    If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

    I understand that when you open the Camera application on your iPhone you see only a blank black screen. I understand that you are using camera applications that were downloaded from the App Store as well, but for troubleshooting purposes, please troubleshoot with the built-in Camera application. To troubleshoot this situation, please use the attached article as a resource. 
    Get help with the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    You see a closed lens or black screen
    If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
    Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
    Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
    Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
    If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping  (camera swap icon). If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

    When I open the camera the camera screen is black

    If this is arrising every few days, then I would say you have something more than a regular software glitch. The next step in user troubleshooting is a restore. First from a backup, then as a new device. I tend to believe this is an issue in iOS, I would try from a backup first. Make sure all of your data is backed up, synced to the computer you use and pictures are imported to the computer. That way if anything is lost in the process, it is on the computer for the restore. If doing it from the backup doesn't work, then restore as a new device. If the error still exists, then I recommend making an appointment at the Apple Store Genius bar ,as it would then seem to be a hardware issue.

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable       
    - Try on another computer

  • So I have an iPhone 4s, and the main/rear camera is cracked.

    Okay so here is the story, I have a black otter box that I bought at the same time I purchased my iPhone 4s back in February. Today I dropped my phone, I have done so many of times (I am a huge klutz) hence the investment in the otterbox, anyway's back to my story. My phone landed face down cool I know it was protected and my screen wasn't going to be cracked, but you always get that oh snap, and heart dropping feeling when this happens. Well it seems that out of the millions of times my phone has been dropped (I have a three year old) Today did in my rear camera screen.. Yeah I know makes no sense fell face flat with an otterbox and my main/rear camera screen has crack, along with going "wonky" when turned upside down. My question is, is this covered in my warrenty and will I be able to get it fixed or will I have to replace the whole entire phone?     Just to clarify, AppleCare doesn't cover damage.  Only AppleCare Plus covers damange (see http://store.apple.com/us/product/S4575LL/A).  To purchase an out of warranty replacement, back up your phone and make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store.  Be sure to import your photos and videos to your computer and back up your contacts separately from your iPhone backup (such as by syncing them with iCloud: Settings>iCloud>Contacts>On).

    Hello, I was womdering if you could tell me what is wrong with my camera. My front camera works fine, but the rear camera is black and freezes when I try to switch the cameras from front to rear. I have not dropped my iPhone or done anything to hurt it. I have just updated to the newest verizon of iOS 7.6 this week.

    I received my Iphone 4 Friday and I have the same issue. I went to the Apple Store and I had an appt. Their customer support ***. They told me they would have to reorder a new one. They also told me if I wanted shipped to then I could call Apple Care again and they could help me. Except they failed to mention there is a cost to mail the phone and they put a $599.00 on hold in my credit care till they receive the broken phone back. I am at a loss for time and my desire to deal with Apple is long gone. Good luck in getting your phone replaced without having to pay a second time. Its not as easy as you said no questions asked!
