What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • 1st Gen iTouch not recognized by iTunes on Laptop

I have a 1st Gen iTouch that I cannot seem to get iTunes to recognize.
About a week ago I re-named it in iTunes, cleaned it up, and performed a sync.
Used it until the battery was low, and re-charged using my wall charger. Now, when I connect to the laptop, is is not recognized at all...
I have tried the following to no avail:
    Re-install iTunes
    Stop/Start the Apple Mobile Device
    Try a different USB cable
Re-boot the laptop with USB devices not plugged in
Force the iTouch into recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
Try to connect using a different laptop
It still charges when connected to my wall charger. I have a 2nd gen iTouch that connects just fine (charges & connects to iTunes). I don't what the problem could be?! This iTouch is 1.5 years old and work great apart from this issue. Can anyone help?

I have followed every troubleshooting page on the apple support site yet my ipod nano 6th gen is not recognized by itunes
I have spent 3 days messing with my pc and have made no real progress.
Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • Itouche not  recognized on itunes 10 or on my pc. recognized as a camera

Wondering why I cant just revert back to itunes 9.2.1 without having to delete 10.0. To many people on this forum have lost their libraries for me to take a chance. Is there any clue out there that itunes is going to correct the mess they have made on version 10.0?

Trust me, it's a complete mess already.
Just to answer your question, reverting back to iTunes 9.2.1 would cause the iTuns library file (or iTunes Library.itl) to not be readable due to the fact that the library was changed into a format that iTunes 10.0.0 and up would be able to read. As for now there is no updates further than 10 so unless you want to find all of your music, sync your photos, and lose all of your playlists, you should stay on iTunes 10 and wait until they release an update.
I have an iPhone 4 and it's having the same problem that it was recognized as a camera. Some jerks thought it was normal on the iPhone forums and didn't think that I was saying that it wasn't basically recognized as an iPhone. I then tried a full reinstall and it's not recognized as a camera any more... but still no luck, iTunes 10 did not recognize my phone.
I didn't want to revert back to 9.2.1 because I was at risk of losing a lot of new contacts and some important work related documents I scanned using Genius Scan. =\
Apple should at least acknowledge the problem or else they'll lose another customer.

  • HT1353 why is my device not recognized in itunes

Everytime I hook up my ipod nano to my computer it says device not recognized. I've tried using all troubleshooting advice, I've tried using all USB connections on my computer, I've continually uninstalled itunes and reinstalled the current itunes, I've checked all firewalls, all security settings, and my anti virus protection, and authorized my computer for itune use. Don't know what else to do. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hello rebakahloper,
It sounds like you are getting a messages saying your device could not be recongized correctly. You've done a great amount of troubleshooting, and I dont know if you have done these steps specifically, but I recommend the following troubleshooting:
iPod nano: Error message saying that iPod 'could not be identified properly'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3218
Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
iPod nano requires Apple Mobile Device Support, which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below.
Windows XP: Click Start and select Control Panel. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs.
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click Start and select Control Panel. Click Uninstall a program (or if using Windows Vista's Classic View of the Control Panel, click Programs and Features) and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs.
If Apple Mobile Device Support is not listed, remove iTunes, QuickTime, Apple Software Update, and Apple Application Support, and then reinstall iTunes. Follow the steps appropriate for your Windows operating system below.
    Reinstall iTunes for Windows XP
Reinstall iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7
If Apple Mobile Device Support is still not installed, follow the steps in this article.
    Verify the device's USB connection
Disconnect all USB devices from the system with the exception of the iPod nano and any USB keyboard and mouse. Then restart your computer.
Verify that you are using a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Do not use a USB hub to connect your iPod.Determine whether your computer has USB 2.0.
Test with an alternate iPod USB cable if one is available. Remove any USB extension cables, and verify that the iPod USB cable is connected directly to the computer.
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service and iPod service are both running
iPod nano (5th and 6th generation) require both the Apple Mobile Device Service and iPod service.
Refer to this article to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.
Next, refer to this article in the section titled "Restart the iPod Service".
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Driver is installed
iPod nano (5th and 6th generation) requires the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (usbaapl.inf or usbaapl64.inf for 64-bit). In some cases, you may need to update or reinstall this driver. Follow this article, in the section titled "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed".If the issue remains, repeat this step in safe mode. To start your computer in safe mode, see the appropriate Microsoft article below, depending on which version of Windows you have:
    Safe mode for Windows XP
    Safe mode for Windows Vista
    Safe mode for Windows 7
Once in safe mode, repeat the steps in this article in the section titled "Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed." Once complete, restart your computer as usual to get out of safe mode.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Why is my ipod not recognized in itunes and content appears to be lost

I recently connected my ipod to charge, when itunes did not come up I found that it was open by another user on our pc. I went to close itunes from there session But it was frozen. I had to press control alt delete to end task. When it closed I opened it back up in my windows session and found all my content was lost and it didn't recognize my ipod. itunes wants to reset all settings to factory and delete any content that may still be on there. When the ipod is ejected it shows nothing on there but when i plug it in show my ipod name, and some content appears to still be there, in my computer in usb port (G:). Please help I hope I didn't loose all my music!!!

  • HT201269 Why is my iPhone not recognized in iTunes

I have uninstalled and reinstalled, etc.  There is a driver error noted but when I choose troubleshoot it gives me no options to fix it.  Very frustrated and looking for any help.  I just bought an Iphone 5S and neither the 4 or 5s are recognized in ITunes.

You verified and restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service?
You verified the Apple Mobile USB Driver?
And you checked for third party software conflicts?

  • The same problem with Windows Vista 64bit-iTouch not recognized by iTunes

Happy Holidays, all. I was just hoping that someone had come up with a fix to the problem with iTouch and Windows Vista Premium (64bit). All I get is a picture of the plug pointing to the iTunes image on my iTouch, can't even see the regular icons yet. The device is not picked up by iTunes, either. Tried reinstalling iTunes, the whole bit. Thought I'd try one more time to get a fix before returning the product. By the way, if you ever finally do get through to Apple Tech Support, they'll act like they have never heard of the problem (at least the guy I spoke with did. He wasn't very nice or very helpful). Anyway, good luck and thanks.

I have I think the same issue. iTunes can see a Nano but not an iTouch. Vista see the device when I plug it in, but no luch with iTunes. I ended up using a old laptop with XP which is slow and out of hard drive space, so I need a fix.

  • 5th generation ipod is not recognized by itunes, why?

5th generartion ipod is not recognized by itunes, why it this?
    thank you.

    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    If it does not charge
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

  • Ipod not recognized by itunes, why?

I got a new Ipod and it is not recognized by Itunes. I have reinstalled itunes. I have tried to reset the ipod. It also does not show up on Windows Explorer. I tried changing things in the MSCONFIG file and it still did not work. The USB ports work and I have checked that by plugging in an external HD. Any suggestions?
