Did it successfully download and install? Has it ever worked on the computer? You can remove and reinstall iTunes by following the instructions in this support document. Make sure you follow them exactly, or it will just compound your problems. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

  • ITunes opens by itself!

Hi, I hope somone can help with this... Since downloading and installing the latest iTunes update, iTunes keeps opening by itself for no reason, even when my iPod is not connected. I've repaired permissions and still it opens by itself. Anybody else having this issue? Hope someone can help, thanks.

There are several topics about this problem in this Discussion.

  • Itunes opens by itself and plays music at random hours. I was awakened in the middle of the night.

Does anyone else have this problem? I actually talked to an Apple support person who laughed and said "is this a Halloween joke?" It is not a joke, I am so annoyed by this behaviour of itunes that I will have to uninstall and go without if it isn't solved. I have tried all sorts of things, I have uninstalled 3 times now, waited a few days and reinstalled a new version but it continues to happen. The other annoying and insulting thing itunes does is not only open by itself but then constantly post warnings that I am not authorized to play my music. This is not music that I have purchased but have burned off my own collection of CDs which I think is perfectly legal.

    Thank you!
My Mac Mini runs iTunes all the time, so the Apple TV's in the LAN can play music stored on the Mini.  Normally, I don't play music directly from iTunes on the Mini, but many times I have logged in to the Mini only to find music playing when it should not be.  I pause the music, and then sometime later it starts playing again on the Mini, seemingly all by itself.  This has been going on for some time, and a real puzzle.  I've tried various remedies, including making an empty playlist and opening it on the Mini in iTunes.  Nothing I tried had worked, so I just turned the iTunes volume completely down, and lived with this "ghost in the machine."
It so happens my Mini lives in a media closet where one of the ATV's also lives (on the same shelf).  My devices in the media closet are controlled via infrared transmitters inside the closet which, in turn, are controlled by RF via the Logitech Harmony 900 in another room.
It never occurred to me that the infrared signals sent to the ATV were also being picked up by the IR receiver in the Mac Mini (which I never realized existed and was turned on by default).  I disabled the IR receiver on the Mini, and hallelujah!  No more iTunes music mysteriously playing on the Mini itself inside the media closet!

  • HT1349 why would my itunes open every time i turn computer on

why would my itunes software open automaticaly evey time i turn my computer on

You could go into MSconfig, and see if its set to start with the machine.
Normally by default iTunes will open when you plug in your device...there is an option to have it not open when a device is connected..but there is not an option to have it start with the computer that I am aware of.

  • Why won't iTunes open when I plug in my iPod?

I plugged in my iPod, and if I already have iTunes open, I need to close it because it freezes. However, when I try to re-open iTunes, it will not open. I recently updated iTunes to 7.2 and I also updated my iPod software to the most current one. What should I do? I wanted to restore my iPod, because it kept skipping songs before, but now I can't even open up iTunes to restore my iPod. Please help .

Over time I've come across a number of posts concerning iTunes for Windows not opening. One conclusion from other Windows users that you might want to check out has been that it could be the result of malware on your PC. The advice has been to try scanning for malware with AVG Anti-Spyware, you'll find a free trial download at this link: ewido Networks

  • ITunes opening by itself

As the title says, iTunes keeps opening itself at random times, and it's getting really annoying, is there a way to set iTunes not to open unless I want to open it?

Possible causes of this issue include:
    Dashboard alarm-clock widgets
    Alarm-clock apps such as "Awaken"
    Screen savers that play music
    Logitech Media Server
    An Apple Remote
External speakers or headphones with a next-track control
Connecting an iOS device with USB

  • ITunes opens by itself repeatedly

iTunes has started opening up by itself. Sometimes it starts playing the first thing on the list. Most times it just opens up without playing, but the window doesn't come to the forefront, like when you intentionally open a program. Most of the time I am not touching the mouse, it's no where near clicking on the itunes icon. There are no devices being plugged in. Sometimes I am not at the computer and I find it open and playing again. Anyone heard of this?

I have the same issue. It started recently with iTUnes 10. iTunes launches itself, plays by itself, randomly stops playing, etc. I have no widgets, I have no Apple Scripts, I have, basically a very generic Snow Leopard system. The only way I could fix the issue was to nuke iTunes. I hunted down all the .plist files, etc, deleted the application, library files, etc. While I was at it I downgraded to iTunes 9, since the UI in iTunes 10 is pretty bad as well. I'm in the market for a new iPhone (I have the original one) and a new iMac, but since I have to have iTunes 10 to work with iOS 4 I will not be purchasing anything until I see that this cause of this issue has been positively identified and resolved. I use my Macs for work, and being on a conference call and having iTunes decide to start playing is a non-starter. Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I'm ready to leave the entire ecosystem due to the recent bloat and the direction that Apple seems to be going - ignoring professionals more and more. If I could run Photoshop on Lunix I'd bail immediately.

  • Why wont my itunes open up on my laptop since i updated i tunes?

ive updated my itunes on my laptop and went to connect my ipod classic, its charging but when i click on the itunes to open it up, it comes up with an error ans says new itunes library?!

    Hello, jessykins25.
Thank you for the question.  This sounds like you will need to rebuild your iTunes library file.  Below, I have included the article that walks you through this process.  Start with the section labeled Re-creating the iTunes Library file.

  • WHy isn't itunes opening after uploading the newest software updates

I installed the newest version of iTunes today, April 7, 2013, and now iTunes will not open at all on my PC.

Do you get an error message when you try to launch iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • Why won't iTunes open?  It's been deleted and redownloaded seven times now!

I used to have my iTunes on a mac and it worked just fine.. but I had to switch everything over to my computer, which is a pc... so I had to re-format my nano. That, as you know, deleted all of my songs. I downloaded iTunes 7.. it wouldn't open... I deleted it and tried the process again. Nothing happened. I did it about seven more times. Nothing. So now, I have a nano with no songs... and a computer that won't open iTunes. I have Windows XP. I see no reason for this. It's driving me insane. I'm ready to throw it all out the window. PLEASE HELP ME... I WILL DO ANYTHING!!!!!!

I have tried deleting programs to create more space on my hard drive, thinking that was the problem, but no success. I notice when I try to launch itunes my CPU usage goes to 100%, drops to 4% and then the application stops trying to launch and the hour glass goes away. I tried reinstalling my original software (iTunes 4,I think), and it worked ok, but I was not allowed to use the music store unless I upgraded to iTunes 7. As soon as I did that, it started all over again with the iTunes application not starting. I do not get any type of error at all. I get nothing, just like you!!!
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Why does my iTunes open for a split second then close?

This has been happening since I downloaded iOS 7 and it's doing my head in!

I had the same problem but just fixed it. I also have the 5.
    1. Close out all apps.
    2. Sign out of your account. *Do this by going into "settings," "iTunes & App Store," click "Apple ID:______" and "sign out."
    3. Lastly perform a system reset. Do this by pressing and holding the lock screen/wake button atop the iPhone along with the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds. Wait a minute or two for the phone to restart, and try opening the app. It should be good as new.
    Good luck.

  • Itunes opens by itself and begins playing music at midnight

Anyone know how to turn it off? I can't find anything about an alarm in the settings.

I am having a similar problem. My iTunes begins to play songs at 6 am, but only when it is already on. It will not launch itself. How do you see what is causing this?

  • Why won't iTunes open and what does this error message mean?

I can't open up my iTunes. I've tried reinstalling it but it still doesn't work. I get an error message that reads: The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll. I press ok and then another message pops up reading: iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127). I don't get an error message when I hook up my iPod but it doesn't bring up iTunes either and restarting my computer doesn't seem to help. I don't want to completely remove iTunes from my computer because I'm afraid I'll lose most of my music since most of it were on CDs which I no longer have. Help?

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053  The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
    Can anyone please help?
