Why is my Mac Book Pro not loading up the latest version 10.6.7

I bought a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro at the same time. The Mac Pro has 10.6.7 and the Macbook Pro is at 10.5.8. I'm wanting to upgrade so I can get the apps. Is there a reason the laptop is not getting this update? My system info is below. Any help is appreciated.

Software Update only works for incremental updates.. not necessarily upgrades. MacOS Version 10.x.y where x = major upgrade and y = incrementenal update

If you hold down the Option key when lauching your Mac, you should see your Macintosh HD in the list. Select the drive.
Either it's stuck in the wrong Startup Disk or you have issues with your current install of OS X. You might need to run Repair Drive and Repair permissions on the recovery drive. Then do a reinstall of OS X.

Check to see how much free space there is on the startup disk.
Click the Apple menu icon top left corner in your Desktop. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select the Storage tab.
Make sure there's at least 15% available storage space.

If it was purchased brand new then it's running a version of Lion, so to reinstall Lion:

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…

Sounds to me like you may have gotten a machine with hardware issues, but it's hard to say. It will shut down if it gets too hot, but that's not a normal occurrence. I have never seen a MacBook Pro shut down due to heat, even after lengthy 3D gaming sessions where the fans are running fast and the bottom of the machine is unpleasant to touch.
First thing I would try to do is reset the SMC. If that doesn't help, erase the hard drive and reinstall the system from scratch, which you should always do with a used machine anyway.
If a fresh system doesn't help, you'll need to get it checked out by Apple.
Edit: Oh, and sig is absolutely right... please don't post in all caps! It's very irritating.
