Why is my mac book so slow compared to other laptops used in my household?
Hi,
I recently purchased an HP laptop with very similar specs to the mac book pro im using. The HP had 2.4 megahertz of speed plus a booster and it was SUPER FAST. I ended up returning it after a week because i wanted to get a mac. When i went on the internet, i was first not able to watch any youtube videos until i downloaded flash player. When i did, and was finally able to watch videos, they were just so slow and kept stopping. My husband's laptop, which is from 2007, an HP with a 1.7 processor was streaming the video i was trying to watch much faster than mine.
How can this be fixed? I am still within my return policy and would like to get this resolved rather than return my mac, but internet speed is very important.

Help a new Apple user,
I purchased a new mac pro from Best Buy and learn how to use it pretty quickly and actually started to believe it was a great decision to switch from windows. Then the mac pro gave the upgrade to the OS Yosemite, I upgraded it, and its slow booting up and browsing like windows. What happened to the quick reboot and speed when first started to use the Mac. I have had this Mac Pro for about a month now but not happy at this point. Please help fix this problem, it past my return date now if it continues to be slow like my previous window laptop.

Click the Apple menu icon top left corner in your Desktop. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info then select the Storage tab.
Make sure there's at least 15% available storage space.

Not enough free disk space can slow your Mac down.
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop or open the Finder, right or control click startup disk in the Sidebar on the left then click Get Info.
You'll see Available and Capacity. Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space.
Reindexing Spotlight can speed things up a bit > Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes
Beyond that, it would help to tell us which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.

Rid the MBP of the ones you do not hjave anymore, especially the Blackberry (assuming you no longer have one). Also rid the MBP of Mackeeper, you do not need it and it is notorious for slowing down a Mac.

why are my movies not showing on my Mac Book, which is the computer that I used to purchase the movie, but showing on my IMAC at home...I am currently deployed so this ***** a bit. Also how do I keep this incedent from happending in the future?
No, this is not the case. I know where i purchased the movie and I also know movies cant be added to the cloud such as music, TV shows can. The instance happened during the dowload. I think that depending which computer is up and running and the bandwith allocated on either network, which ever computer that finishes first is the one that gets the movie. Just a thought. So next time I will ensure my IMAC is not running. I think that fixes it.

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.

Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. The unfortunate thing is that many people have passed the “three years from date of purchase” now and Apple is not honoring the free logic board replacement for many users. Some dealers seem to be making some exceptions for those past the three year mark, but don’t count on it…
