Why Is My .mac Email Broken?

I still use my .mac address as my Apple user ID. Why can't I continue to use it as my iCloud email address? Mail sent to my long-standing .mac address bounces back to the sender.

This is all I get in the bounced email:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: joeholmes@****
Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain mac.com by mx5.mac.com.akadns.net. [17.158.8.111].
The error that the other server returned was: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias:joeholmes@****
I've had that email address since January 2000 at Macworld Expo when iTools was announced...

  • Why did my mac email account get deleted upon upgrading to Yosemite

I no longer have my mac email account, after upgrading to Yosemite.
How do I get it back on my MBP? Does this involve iCloud?

Go to the Mail/Accounts preference pane and add the account back again if it's not there.  Next check the System/iCloud preference pane to make sure you have Mail checked.

  • Why doesn't .mac email get pushed to iPhone?

So I seet up a .mac account. But the email isn't pushed to my iPhone. I only get it if I chck mail on the iPhone.
    Is .mac email pushed?

I access my .Mac account on my iPhone and a free Yahoo Push IMAP account and there isn't much difference except for the .Mac account having to be checked for new messages but there have been a number of reports here indicating that Yahoo's free Push account does not always Push or work properly. In addition, Yahoo's free Push IMAP account includes advertisements with sent messages - not good.
There are a number of benefits included with a .Mac account - especially with the changes and improvements just announced so you may want to rethink using a Yahoo account instead just due to Push.

  • Why can't I email videos taken with iphone 4 from my mac

Why can't I email videos taken with my iphone 4 from my Mac? It says the video is to big or long but the particular one I am trying to send is only 1 min 16 sec long. I don't remember having this problem with my 3gs. I am trying to email them with my yahoo act, and I see this very same question was asked July of 2010, but their are no replies. It may be a very simple fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. Surly, I don't have to reduce my videos to 30 sec or less to get them to send. Can anyone please help a gal out?

  • Why Apple is blocking email from reaching my mac email account that I would like to receive.  How do I correct this?

Apple is blocking email from reaching my mac email account that I would like to receive.  How do I correct this?  There are some important emails that I am not receiving because they never make it to my inbox or even my spam account.

    Hey there MikeMach,
It sounds like people are sending you emails but they never arrive to your inbox or your Junk folder. According to the following article you may need to reach out to iCloud support directly for assistance:
iCloud: Identifying and filtering junk mail
Due to the complexity of accurately detecting and filtering out junk mail, on rare occasions a legitimate email from a friendly source may be blocked from reaching your Inbox. This is called a false positive.
If you feel that a legitimate email message was inadvertently filtered, you may want to ask your friend to send a follow-up email to verify that the issue exists. If you notice that multiple email messages are being delayed, bounced, or not delivered, contact iCloud Support. Also make sure to check your Junk folder for email messages that were incorrectly marked as junk mail. To check your Junk folder at iCloud.com, choose the Mail application and click the Junk folder in the sidebar. Email messages in the Junk folder are automatically deleted after 30 days.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • How do I transfer On My Mac emails from a Macbook Pro to Macbook Air

Is there some reason why you don't want to transfer all data to the new computer?

  • Why does my Mac Mail programme keep turning on the SSL option?

For a couple of years now my wife's Mac Mail programme has from time to time stopped getting most of the emails sent to it for a week or more. I've wasted many hours on the phone to our service provider without ever getting to the bottom of the problem. Now I believe I know what's been happening. It seems that her Mail preferences keep turning on the SSL option without any human involvement. Apparently emails sent to an SSL selected email address will only make it into her in-box if they come from an SSL selected mail programme. Yesterday, scratching my head as to why, once again, few emails were getting through, I once again looked at the preferences and noticed that the SSL option, which I had recently unchecked, was once again checked. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. And so on, for ten minutes when, suddenly, it remained unchecked.
Why is this happening? My wife never, and I mean never fiddles with settings on her computer and nobody else uses it. The checking of the SSL option is being done entirely at the behest of the machine itself. Can anybody tell me how this could be happening? And could anybody tell me how I can stop it from happening again?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Step 1 should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Is my Mac mini broken?

Hi, Ive been trying to get my audio working with ichat and imovie to no avail.
I hook up my camera with a firewire cable, In ichat the video signal comes through fine but no audio. If I go to system preferences and choose the audio device it works there, but NOT in ichat. I then open imovie and can get video but no audio. So then I pull out my old ibook , plug in the firewire , open imovie and wahlah, everything works. This is how I remember apple to be, EASY. Is my Mac Mini BROKEN? Are there more steps I am missing?
    Help Kevin

    Hello Kevin,
Don't mean to jump in here, but, I've been around Mac's since 1984 and have only re-installed a system on one occasion when I knew I messed it up with an optimizing program that crashed before it was done.
Are you having any other issues with you system than you are describing above? Although it may resolve your problem you will not know why. As Andy-O once described it, it is like taking a "sludge-hammer" to solve the problem.
If you are not having other issues with your system then insuring that your preferences for those programs are set properly and that the camera is compatible with the OS and hardware in the Mini ( I don't know what you have on the portable) - it could be you may need a driver for it to work.

  • Hi, does anyone know why I cant send email over 3g but can over wi-fi.  My provider is ntlworld

Hi, does anyone know why I cant send email over 3g but can over wi-fi.  My provider is ntlworld.  As soon as I get home and connect to wi-fi the mail sends no problem

We use ntlworld as our home broadband provider and main email address.  In my experience ntl doesn't usually allow sending of email except on its own network which is why yours works at home.  My iPhone is set up to send my ntl email using my second email account's smtp setting (in my case is is a mac.com account and I haven't found any network this doesn't work on  to send email).
So my advice is to get yourself another email account with a different provider like yahoo or google, then use the new provider smtp address to send your ntl email on your iPhone.

  • TS3899 Why cannot I receive emails when my iphone5 is on gprs.

Why cannot I receive emails when my iphone5 is on gprs.

thanks.  I was reading some of the other postings that I see on this page and got that impression.  Not sure what IMAP is but I'll keep reading and see if I can figure it out. I saw something that said a Mac.com email was IMAP so maybe I need to start using that instead of my Charter acct.  I know my work is an exchange account.  I have an Iphone, Mac and Ipad and need to start figuring out how all these work together and get more educated on this.  Thanks for your time.

  • Does .Mac email work on the iPod touch?

I have a .mac account and am thinking of getting an iPod touch.
As it has Safari and WiFi, all looks good to access my email on the move.
However according to the reply in this posting by another couple of posters, I might not be able to?
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1190922&tstart=0
    Anyone shed some light?

Okay. Just picked up Macworld magazine and in its review of the iPod Touch it states that the .mac website doesn't work properly using Safari on the device and as a result you can't check your .mac email.
Someone tell me that the guys at the magazine were having a bad browser day! It seems odd as some folk have posted back to say that they CAN access their .mac mail?
I refuse to believe that Apple would release a device that doesn't allow users to check their pay-to-use Apple .mac email. Surely this would have been reported by iPhone users months ago who were checking email using Safari instead of the built in mail app (although why they would not use the app, I have no idea)
Safari on the iPhone and iPod touch are the same version as far as I know.
