Why is my macbook air mouse/track pad unresponsive?

My macbook air track bar and mouse have become increasingly unresponsive.  I finally bought a mouse.  While visiting my sister and using her MacBook Air computer (mouse/trackpad), I realized I've got a serious problem.  Any suggestions?

I passed one of my older Macbooks to my MIL. She has the same problem, and has resorted to an external mouse (which she prefers anyway). I am convinced that the issue is directly related to just how dirty, in general, I have observed the unit to be. The theory is that debris has infiltrated to the underside of the trackpad, thereby inhibiting movement for clicking.
The "tap to click" function seems to work just fine. I would ask if the setting in preferences has been set to "tap to click" on your trackpad, and whether "soft tapping" works or not for you?

My MacBook keyboard and track pad stopped functioning after pairing an Apple wireless mouse and keyboard. Any suggestions?

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

This happens in all kinds of usage ... when typing, when browsing, when using the mouse to point and click, etc.?

  • Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep?

Why does my Macbook Air make a single buzz/beep every time I open it or turn it on? It doesn't happen after again after the initial buzz. If I open it after it has been sleeping, it starts up and then there is a buzz. This has only happened since I downloaded iOS Maverick.

    Beeps on startup:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images.
5 beeps = processor is not usable

why is my macbook air so slow?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the system log for messages that may indicate a hardware fault. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|nspace-h|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

why doesn't my mighty mouse track ball scroll up or down vertically?

    Hi:
New ones are not that expensive, but I would try running it up and down (vigorously) on microfiber cloth or a towel or something.
If that does not fix it...yes I would buy a new one.  I like wireless ones anyway

why is my MacBook Air running slow and I bought the 11 inch with all memory and turbo boost

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Will the magic mouse track pad functions work with OSX 10.8.5?

Will the Magic Mouse track pad functions, i.e. scroll, zoom work with OSX 10.8.5.? Or do I have to upgrade to get those functions to work?

    Yes, they'll work with 10.8.5.

  • Replace mouse track pad

Mouse track pad is not working properly, clicking all the time and moving by itself

Did you spill a liquid on the trackpad or could a liquid somehow gotten under the trackpad? If so then you should let it dry for a day and if still doesn't work then go to your local Computer Doctor or GeekSquad at Best Buy. If you can't then you'll have to go to the Apple Store, but try to make it your last resort because if Apple decides not to do it for free, (which they might do it for free) then you may have to pay a few hundred dollars. You could even try repairing it yourself if it's still not working for whatever reason, but that is more complicated and risky. Hope this helps.

  • How will i be informed if my stolen macbook air is tracked?

I had my macbook air stolen at about 2 weeks ago. I activated the track my mac, but since then it was never turned on as I can see through the net. So, I ask: how will I be informed if my stolen macbook air is tracked?

Thank you very much!!! I just wanted to express my frustration to know how simple it is to get away from this "weak" sense of security that is the "track my apple device". It should be something independently of the OS, but at least linked to its serial number!!!!! Congratulations to the Apple to be so kind to the thieves!!!!!! (I was sarcastic now!).

  • Reoccurring Dirt Mark on MacBook Air Mouse Button

I have not had the paint come off yet, but I do have an odd spot on the mouse pad button that consistently attracts dirt and forms a black line of visible dirt I constantly have to rub off with the cleaning wipes I got from the Apple store. Visually the is no scratch that I can. When this happened before the finish eventually rubbed completely off and left an open patch to the bare aluminum on a Macbook Pro I had.
Took it to the Genius bar and it was just ho hum. No help there.
